RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a fenologia reprodutiva em um plantio de Monteverdia ilicifolia, cujas mudas foram produzidas com Trichoderma e vermicomposto, visando identificar o momento em que ocorre a mudança para a fase adulta reprodutiva da espécie e possíveis efeitos dos bioestimulantes no desenvolvimento reprodutivo das plantas. A semeadura foi realizada em tubetes de 180 cm³ de volume em casa de vegetação em novembro de 2015. Para o ensaio com Trichoderma spp., foram testadas três cepas não-comerciais (cepas T1 e T2: Trichoderma asperelloides; T10: Trichoderma virens) inoculadas em substrato comercial e um tratamento sem Trichoderma (controle), constituindo quatro tratamentos com cinco repetições cada, totalizando 20 plantas. Para o ensaio com vermicomposto, foram testadas diferentes proporções de vermicomposto e solo não-estéril. Os percentuais de vermicomposto avaliados foram: 0; 20; 40; 50; 60 e 80% em relação ao solo não-estéril (tratamentos T0, T20, T40, T50, T60 e T80), sendo testadas dez repetições por tratamento, totalizando 60 plantas. O transplante das mudas para o campo ocorreu aos 330 dias, em espaçamento 4,0 m x 3,5 m, constituindo dois ensaios, os quais foram avaliados individualmente. A fenologia reprodutiva de M. ilicifolia foi avaliada em 2018, 2019 e 2020, pelo método presença/ausência de floração e frutificação, quantificados pelo índice de atividade (IA), que exprime o percentual de indivíduos que manifestaram os eventos em cada amostragem. As análises foram realizadas de forma direta e mensalmente, entre os meses de agosto a dezembro de cada ano. A primeira fenologia reprodutiva da espécie ocorreu 22 meses após o plantio. O índice de atividade de floração foi mais intenso que o índice de atividade de frutificação no decorrer dos três períodos reprodutivos analisados, mas ainda são incipientes para inferir sobre a ação dos bioestimulantes, tendo em vista a presença de dois tipos florais com características que podem ter influenciado nos resultados encontrados. ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to evaluate the reproductive phenology in a Monteverdia ilicifolia plantation, whose seedlings were produced with Trichoderma spp. and vermicompost, in order to identify the moment when the shift to the adult reproductive stage of the species occurs and possible effects of biostimulants on reproductive development of the species. RESUMO O estudo objetivou avaliar uma linhagem de Trichogramma pretiosum nativa da região Central do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil) sob diferentes temperaturas em laboratório, e no parasitismo de Helicoverpa zea após liberações em área de milho. Fêmeas de T. pretiosum foram mantidas a 18, 25 e 30 °C e avaliadas quanto ao potencial de parasitismo. No campo, foram instaladas nove parcelas (400 m2) de milho híbrido em blocos ao acaso, com os seguintes tratamentos: 1) liberação de parasitoides fracionada em três vezes, em intervalos de três dias; 2) liberação em apenas uma ocasião; 3) sem liberação. A cada quatro dias foram coletadas espigas e registrados os danos e o número de lagartas e ovos de H. zea dos estilos-estigmas. A avaliação iniciou durante o pendoamento e estendeu-se até a fase de secagem dos estilos-estigma. Duas linhas em cada parcela foram reservadas para avaliação do número e da massa de espigas e grãos. Em laboratório, o maior percentual de parasitismo foi aos 25 °C (35,54%) e a menor longevidade aos 30 °C (6,8 dias). No campo, foram coletados 1.063 ovos de H. zea, dos quais 69,52% estavam parasitados. O percentual médio de parasitismo foi maior com liberação escalonada de T. pretiosum (82,77%), comparativamente ao controle (51,87%), porém, não houve diferença na produção de grãos. Tendo em vista a capacidade de parasitismo da linhagem avaliada, sugere-se que ela possui potencial para ser utilizada em programas de controle biológico da lagarta da espiga no cultivo de milho no Rio Grande do Sul.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate a strain of Trichogramma pretiosum native to the central region of the state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, under different temperatures in laboratory and the parasitism of Helicoverpa zea after releases in corn field. Trichogramma pretiosum females were kept at 18, 25 and 30 °C and had their parasitism potential evaluated. Nine plots (400 m2) of maize were installed in randomized blocks under the treatments: 1) staggered release of parasitoids in three different occasions, at three-day intervals; 2) a single release of parasitoids; 3) no release of parasitoids. Ears were collected every four days and the number of caterpillars and eggs of H. zea in the maize silk and the number of damaged ears were estimated. Evaluation started after the tassels growth and ended with the drying of the styles-stigmas. To estimate the grain mass and the ear number and mass, two lines in each plot were delimited and reserved at the end of the cultivation cycle. In laboratory, the highest parasitism rate occurred at 25 °C (35.54%) and the lowest longevity at 30 °C (6.8 days). A total of 1,063 H. zea eggs were collected in the field, 69.52% were parasitized. The mean parasitism rate was higher in T1 (staggered release, 82.77%) than in control (51.87%), but there was no difference in grain yield. Based on the parasitism capacity of the studied strain, it can be potentially used in programs of biological control of H. zea in corn crops of Rio Grande do Sul.

Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the influence of the substrate composition on the emergence, vigor, and growth of Tabernaemontana catharinensis seedlings in a greenhouse. Seeds were placed to germinate by testing the following substrates: pure Mecplant and combined with fine texture vermiculite (V) or charcoal rice husk (CRH) in different proportions. Variables of emergence percentage, emergence speed index, height, collection diameter, root length, leaf area, dry mass (shoot, root, and total), Dickson quality index, and photosynthetic pigment contents were evaluated. Germinated plants on pure Mecplant substrate presented lower emergence values and morphophysiological parameters. This commercial substrate associated with vermiculite at 1:1 and 1:3 proportions provided higher seed vigor and higher seedling growth, proving to be more adequate for the seedling formation of the species. The formulated substrates did not show a significant influence on the photosynthetic pigment contents.

RESUMO A inoculação de fungos ectomicorrízicos em mudas florestais beneficia o estabelecimento e crescimento das plantas no campo. Os objetivos do trabalho foram: determinar a capacidade de micorrização do fungo ectomicorrízico Scleroderma citrinum em mudas de Parapiptadenia rigida (angico-vermelho) e avaliar a viabilidade da técnica de inoculação micorrízica de mudas florestais através do uso de esporos. Esporos maduros foram inoculados ao substrato (75% solo e 25% casca de arroz carbonizada), totalizando 1,5 gramas de esporos de fungo por litro de substrato. Sementes de P. rigida foram semeadas em substratos inoculados ou não com esporos de S. citrinum, na presença ou ausência dos óleos essências de Pinus echinata e Eucalyptus citriodora: não inoculado (T1), inoculado (T2), inoculado mais adição de óleo essencial de pinus (T3), inoculado mais adição de óleo essencial de eucalipto (T4). Mudas de Pinus elliottii foram utilizadas para controle positivo da inoculação micorrízica, inoculadas (T5) e não inoculadas com esporos ectomicorrízicos (T6). Aos 90 dias após a semeadura, foram determinados o diâmetro do colo, a altura, as massas fresca e seca da parte aérea e das raízes, o percentual de colonização radicular e o Índice de Dickson. Observou-se presença de estruturas fúngicas no interior das raízes de P. rigida e P. elliotti inoculadas com esporos de S. citrinum, evidenciando a ocorrência de associação ectomicorrízica. A aplicação dos óleos essenciais de pinus e de eucalipto no substrato elevou o percentual de colonização ectomicorrízica nas mudas de angico-vermelho. A adição de esporos maduros de S. citrinum ao substrato de produção das mudas representa uma prática viável de inoculação ectomicorrízica, com possibilidade de utilização em viveiros florestais em programas de micorrização controlada.

ABSTRACT Ectomycorrhizal fungal inoculation in forestry seedlings aids plant establishment and growth in the field. The objectives of this study were: to determine the mycorrhizal capacity of the ectomycorrhizal fungus Scleroderma citrinum in Parapiptadenia rigida (red angico) seedlings and to evaluate the viability of a mycorrhizal inoculation technique for forest seedlings involving the use of spores. Mature spores were inoculated in the substrate (75% soil and 25% carbonized rice husk), totaling 1.5 grams of fungal spores per liter of substrate. P. rigida seeds were sown in substrates inoculated or not inoculated with fungal spores in presence or absence of Pinus echinata and Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil: not inoculated (T1), inoculated (T2), inoculated more pine essential oil (T3), inoculated more eucalyptus essential oil (T4). Seedlings of Pinus elliottii were used for a positive control of mycorrhizal inoculation (T5) and not inoculated (T6) with fungal spores. At 90 days after sowing, the base stem diameter, height, fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots, percentage of root colonization and Dickson Index were determined. The presence of fungal structures in P. rigida and P. elliottii roots inoculated with S. citrinum spores was observed, demonstrating the occurrence of an ectomycorrhizal association. The application of pine and eucalyptus essential oils in the substrate increased the percentage of ectomycorrhizal colonization in P. rigida seedlings. The addition of S. citrinum mature spores in the substrate used for seedling production is a viable practice for ectomycorrhizal inoculation and it can be used in forest nurseries in controlled mycorrhization programs.

RESUMO: Objetivando avaliar a influência de trocas gasosas e da fonte de explante na morfogênese in vitro de pimenteira ornamental, sementes de Capsicum annuum foram desinfestadas e inoculadas em meio de Murashige e Skoog suplementado com vitaminas, mio-inositol, sacarose e ágar. O efeito das trocas gasosas foi avaliado na fase de germinação, utilizando três tipos de vedações nos frascos: tampas de polipropileno rígido (TPR) sem membrana (controle), TPR com um orifício (10mm de diâmetro) coberto com membrana e TPR com dois orifícios cobertos com membranas permeáveis à gases. Na fase de regeneração, segmentos de hipocótilo e cotilédones foram transferidos para o meio de indução de organogênese e os diferentes tipos de vedação foram novamente testados em esquema fatorial. Análises anatômicas de pigmentos fotossintéticos e de características morfológicas foram realizadas. Plântulas cultivadas em frascos com tampas com membranas apresentaram estruturas anatômicas diferenciadas e mais vigorosas. Esses tratamentos resultaram em plântulas maiores, com folhas mais expandidas, maior número de folhas, maior massa fresca e seca e maior quantidade de pigmentos fotossintéticos. O cultivo de C. annuum em frascos com menores trocas gasosas foi mais eficaz na indução de calos. Durante o estágio de regeneração, hipocótilos foram mais eficazes do que cotilédones. O tipo de vedação influenciou nas respostas morfogênicas em pimenteira, demonstrando que o aumento nas trocas gasosas tem um efeito positivo sobre a produção de biomassa e aclimatização das plântulas.

ABSTRACT: The influence of flask sealing and explant source on the in vitro morphogenesis of pepper, were evaluated in Capsicum annuum. Seeds were sterilized and inoculated in Murashige and Skoog media supplemented with vitamins, myo-inositol, sucrose, and agar. Gas exchange was evaluated in the germination stage by comparing 3 flask-sealing systems: rigid polypropylene lids (PLs) without vents, PLs with 1 vent, and PLs with 2 vents covered with membranes. In the regeneration stage, cotyledon and hypocotyl segments were transferred to the organogenesis-inducing media, being the different sealing types also tested in a factorial scheme. Photosynthetic pigments, morphological and hystological analyses were conducted for each treatment. Plants maintained in glass flasks capped with vented lids showed more vigorous growth and differentiated anatomical structures. These treatments resulted in taller plants, higher numbers and more expanded leaves, higher fresh and dry weights, and an increase in photosynthetic pigments. Cultivation of C. annuum in flasks with reduced gas exchange was more effective on callus induction. During the regeneration stage, hypocotyls were more effective than cotyledons. Sealing type influenced the morphogenic responses of pepper, demonstrating that an increase in gas exchange has a positive effect on biomass production and acclimatization of the plantlets.

RESUMO A crescente demanda por mudas de espécies florestais nativas exige o aprimoramento do padrão de qualidade do processo produtivo, por meio de técnicas mais eficientes utilizadas nos viveiros. Dessa forma, este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito de diferentes doses de fertilizante de liberação controlada (FLC) e volume de tubetes na produção de mudas de Parapiptadenia rigida em viveiro. Foi avaliado o efeito de cinco doses (0, 3, 6, 9 e 12 g L-1 de substrato) de FLC, NPK (18-5-9) combinadas com três volumes de tubetes (50, 110 e 180 cm3). Foram realizadas, mensalmente, durante sete meses, mensurações da altura (H), diâmetro do coleto (DC) e calculada a relação H/DC. Aos 210 dias foram avaliadas as massas secas da parte aérea, sistema radicular, total e determinado o teor de macro e micronutrientes na parte aérea das mudas. De maneira geral, a dose de 9 g L-1 de substrato combinada com o tubete de 180 cm3 apresentou os melhores resultados para as variáveis morfológicas analisadas, obtendo-se mudas com padrão de qualidade para o plantio a campo.

ABSTRACT Growing demand for native tree seedlings will require improvements in quality standards of production processes through the use of more efficient cultivation techniques. This study evaluated the effects of different doses of controlled release fertilizer (CRF) and different container volumes in the production of Parapiptadenia rigida seedlings. We examined the effects of five different concentrations (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 g L-1 substrate) of CRF (18-5-9 NPK) and three different container volumes (50, 110 and 180 cm3) on seedling height (H) and collar diameter (CD) measured monthly for seven months and then calculated H/CD ratios. After 210 days of growth, the dry masses of the aerial portions, root systems, and total masses were determined, as well as the concentrations of macro- and micronutrients in the aerial portions of the seedlings. In general, the dose 9 g L-1 substrate combined with the 180 cm3 cultivation tubes demonstrated the best results in terms of the morphological variables analyzed, resulting in consistent quality seedlings for field planting.

Este trabalho avaliou diferentes aspectos da germinação e competência embriogênica in vitro de embriões zigóticos imaturos de palmiteiro. A germinação dos embriões ocorreu em meio MS ou MS/2 combinados com sacarose (20, 30 e 40 g L-1). Para a indução de embriogênese somática foram avaliadas concentrações de Cloreto de cálcio (0, 2, 4, 8 e 12 mM). Os embriões somáticos foram germinados em meio MS ou MS/2. A germinação dos embriões zigóticos e o número de raízes por plântulas não foi afetada pela concentração do meio de cultura e de sacarose. A altura e massa fresca das plântulas sofreram influência de ambos, sendo as maiores médias observadas em MS com 40 g L-1 de sacarose. A indução de embriogênese somática não apresentou comportamento diferenciado entre doses de Cloreto de cálcio, entretanto, afetou o número de embriões somáticos formados. A capacidade de germinação dos embriões somáticos de palmiteiro não alterou-se nos meios testados.

This study evaluated different aspects of in vitro germination and embryogenic competence of immature zygotic embryos of E. edulis. The embryos germinated on full or half-strength MS (MS or MS/2) medium combined with sucrose (20, 30 and 40 g L-1). The effect of calcium chloride concentrations (0, 2, 4, 8, and 12 mM) on the induction of somatic embryogenesis was tested. The embryos were germinated on MS or MS/2. Germination of zygotic embryos and the number of roots per plantlet were not affected by the culture medium and sucrose concentration. Plantlet height and fresh weight were influenced by both; the difference was greatest in MS medium with 40 g L-1 sucrose. The induction of somatic embryogenesis was not influenced by doses of calcium chloride, whereas the number of somatic embryos formed was affected. The germination capacity of somatic embryos of heart-of-palm tree was not influenced by the media tested.

A transformação genética, que consiste na introdução controlada de um gene no genoma de uma célula receptora e em sua posterior expressão, assume adicional significância, pois abre novas perspectivas ao melhoramento genético de espécies florestais, disponibilizando novos genes com características desejáveis para serem incorporados em menor espaço de tempo. Através do uso de estratégias com Agrobacterium e biobalística, já foram obtidas plantas transgênicas com maior produção de biomassa, melhor qualidade de madeira, maior resistência a determinados insetos e com tolerância a herbicidas, entre outras características de interesse. Tais exemplos demonstram a relevância dessas ferramentas para o setor florestal. Esta revisão apresenta, de forma resumida, a importância do estabelecimento de um eficiente sistema de regeneração in vitro, as principais estratégias usadas na transformação genética de espécies florestais e algumas das características agroflorestais que já foram incorporadas nessas espécies.

The genetic transformation which consists in a controlled introduction of a gene in the genome of a receive cell and its subsequent expression, assumes additional significance, giving new perspectives to genetic improvement of the forest species, extending and available new genes with desirable characteristics, to be incorporated in a smaller period of time. Through the strategies Agrobacterium and bioballistic, transgenic plants had already been obtained showing higher biomass production, better wood quality, resistance to some insects, tolerance to herbicides, among other desirable characteristics, showing the relevance of these tools to the forest industry. This revision points out in a summarized way, the importance of establishing an efficient in vitro regeneration system, the strategies used in the genetic transformations of forestry species and some agroforestry characteristics that were previously incorporated in these species.

O palmiteiro (Euterpe edulis Mart.) é uma espécie característica da Mata Atlântica, sendo conhecida pela produção de palmito. É uma palmeira com grande potencial para o manejo em regime de rendimento sustentável, e seus frutos são consumidos amplamente pela fauna. A propagação do palmiteiro através de sementes torna-se fator determinante na produção de mudas de qualidade para a manutenção de populações sustentáveis. O presente trabalho, realizado no Laboratório de Biotecnologia Florestal da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, teve como objetivo avaliar a germinação e o crescimento inicial de 15 progênies de palmiteiro. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições e 15 tratamentos (progênies) distribuídos em parcelas com 10 tubetes, contendo duas sementes por tubete. Foram analisadas as características: porcentagem de germinação de sementes; porcentagem de sobrevivência de mudas; diâmetro do colo; número de folhas e altura de plantas. Os resultados apontaram que as progênies de palmiteiro apresentaram maior variabilidade para a porcentagem de sobrevivência (amplitude de 26 a 58% e média geral de 38%), aos 210 dias. As mudas de palmiteiro mais vigorosas foram produzidas pela progênie (P12), que exibiu melhores valores para porcentagem de sobrevivência (média= 58%), altura (média= 2,12 cm), número de folhas (média= 1,45) e diâmetro do colo (média= 0,7 cm). As progênies com menores taxas de sobrevivência (média= 26%) foram mais tardias na iniciação da germinação e, conseqüentemente, apresentaram menor altura de plântulas (média= 1,7 cm). Portanto, lotes de sementes oriundas da população estudada de E. edulis deverão ser formados pelas progênies que mostraram homogeneidade dentre as características analisadas, no sentido de facilitar o manejo das mudas em condições de viveiro e também garantir maior uniformidade do material para o estabelecimento em condições de campo.

Heart-of-palm tree (Euterpe edulis Mart.) is a native species from Atlantic Forest, known by its production of palm heart. It is a palm with high potential to sustainable management and the fauna largely consumes its fruits. Heart-of-palm propagation through seeds is a determinant factor in the production of quality seedlings to the maintenance of sustainable populations. The objective of this study, conducted at Forest Biotechnology Laboratory from the Federal University of Santa Maria, was to evaluate the germination and initial growth of 15 progenies of heart-of-palm tree. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications and 15 treatments (progenies) distributed in 10 liner pots, with two seeds in each one. The following characteristics were analyzed: seed germination percentage, seedling survival percentage, stem diameter, leaf number and plant height. The results showed that heart-of-palm tree progenies had higher variability for survival percentage (ranging from 26 to 58% and average of 38%), at 210 days. The most vigorous seedlings derived from provenance P12, which showed better results for survival percentage (média=58%), height (média= 2.12 cm), leaf number (média= 1.45) and stem diameter (média= 0.7 cm). The provenances with low survival rates (média= 26%) had more delayed seed germination and consequently showed lower seedling height (média= 1.7 cm). Hence, batches of seeds derived from the studied population of E. edulis should be formed by the provenances showing homogeneity among the analyzed characteristics, in order to facilitate seedling management in nursery conditions, and also, guarantee a higher uniformity of the material to be established in field conditions.
