RESUMO O estudo abordou a preferência de consumo e as características de qualidade em ovos de diversas categorias, comercializados em supermercados do Rio de Janeiro e foi realizado em três etapas. Na primeira, foram adquiridos de forma inteiramente casualizada, 180 ovos marrons apenas de categoria caipira, em três diferentes supermercados, considerando o perfil socioeconômico dos consumidores (classe média, baixa e alta). Na segunda, foram adquiridos pelos mesmos critérios e de supermercados distintos, 456 ovos marrons de várias categorias (convencional, free-range, caipira, orgânicos e enriquecidos (ômega-3), sem considerar a condição socioeconômica dos consumidores. Após aquisição, foram levados para análise, que foi realizada no dia seguinte. A terceira etapa, se baseou na percepção e prevalência de consumo de ovos da mesma categoria da segunda etapa, em entrevista na forma de questionário disponibilizado na plataforma Google Forms, para um total de 443 participantes. Ovos de categoria caipira, comercializados em mercados frequentados por consumidores de classe alta, mantiveram melhor a qualidade. Quando não foi considerada a classe social, ovos free-range, caipira, orgânico e enriquecidos apresentaram qualidade inferior, comparado aos convencionais. ABSTRACT This study approached the consumer preference and characteristics of eggs from various categories sold at supermarkets in Rio de Janeiro. The study was performed in three phases. In the first one, 180 'caipira' eggs were randomly acquired from three supermarkets considering the consumers’ socioeconomic profile (middle, upper, and lower class). In the second phase, 456 eggs from conventional, free-range, 'caipira' and omega-3 enriched categories were obtained without considering the socioeconomic condition. After the acquisition, the eggs were taken for further analyses made the next day. The last phase was based on the perception and prevalence of consumers found in the second stage. ABSTRACT. Palm heart processing generates a large amount of residues like leaves, sheath and stems that have potential for ruminant feeding. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of in natura peach palm heart (Bactris gasipaes Khunt.) residues on performance, dry matter (DM) digestibility and intake of ruminants. External sheath was the most suitable residue for sheep, cattle and buffaloes feeding, although sheep presented rejection of 43.5 g kg-1. Thereby, assays of apparent and in vitro dry matter digestibility were done under four feeding treatments, which were the exclusive peach palm sheath, and that one mixed with residues of banana and rice, besides citrus pulp. The experiment was carried out under randomized complete design, with five replications. Greater DM intake (p < 0.05) were observed in animals fed with peach palm sheath mixed with rice (1.12 kg day-1) and mixed with citrus pulp (0.91 kg day-1), however there were no difference among treatments regarding the sheep final weight (p > 0.05). Cattle and buffaloes accept different types of peach palm residues, unlike sheep that present a low rejecting for them. Citrus pulp and rice residue raise the roughage quality. Peach palm residues can be an alternative roughage source to feed ruminants.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to investigate direct and indirect correlations of methodologies of bone quality analysis from brown egg layers, at final of the production cycle. Twelve femurs of Dekalb Brown laying hens, euthanized at 85-week-old, were assessed to evaluate breaking strength (BS), Seedor index (SI), mineral matter (MM), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) contents, besides cortical (CorD), medullar (MedD) and epiphysis (EpiD) diameters. Correlations and path analysis were obtained with the aid of SAS® University (p ≤ 0.05). The BS directly represented the bone quality and was compared to other methodologies. Greater linear correlations occurred between BS and MM (r = 0.82), MM and Ca (r = 0.72), and BS and Ca (r = 0.70). The MM content displayed the greatest direct effect on the BS (r = 0.53). The Ca content showed a reduced direct effect on the BS (r = 0.18), with indirect effects through MM content (r = 0.44) and EpiD (r = 0.15), however, presented a great total correlation (r = 0.78). Determination of mineral matter content is the main methodology associated with femur breaking strength from brown egg layers at final of the productive cycle. Because of that, this methodology is more reliable to determine bone quality.

ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted using direct method to determine the standardized ileal phosphorus (P) digestibility coefficient (SIPDC) of meat and bone meal (MBM) and poultry byproduct meal (PBM) for broilers. In the first experiment, three MBM from different batches were evaluated, with four treatments (MBMI, MBMII, MBMIII, and a P-free diet) and nine replicates of seven birds each, totaling 252 birds distributed across a completely randomized design. The P-free diet was used to determine endogenous P losses. Titanium dioxide (5 g kg−1) was used as an indigestible indicator. In the second experiment, three PBM from different batches were evaluated, with 189 birds distributed over three treatments (PBMI, PBMII, and PBMIII) and nine replicates of seven birds each. These two experiments were conducted when birds were 19-22 days old. The birds were euthanized to collect the ileal content. Using the P-free diet, endogenous P losses were determined at 94.9 mg kg−1 dry matter intake. Standardized ileal P digestibility of MBMI (0.65) and MBMIII (0.69) was higher compared with MBMII (0.49). The SIPDC determined for three PBM sources were similar and 0.96, 0.96, and 0.93 for PBMI, PBMII, and PBMIII, respectively. The present study demonstrates that P in MBM is not as available as it is believed and that the variability between batches should be considered by nutritionists, while PBM can be considered an excellent P source to broiler diets.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a inclusão de níveis de caulim na dieta de poedeiras semipesadas ao final do ciclo de produção. Foram utilizadas 288 galinhas semipesadas distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis tratamentos de oito repetições, contendo seis aves por repetição. Quando as aves atingiram a idade de 63 semanas, foi iniciada a alimentação com as dietas experimentais. As dietas diferiam entre si pela inclusão de níveis crescentes de caulim: controle (sem aditivo); e a inclusão de 1, 2, 3, 4 e 5% de caulim na dieta. Foram avaliados o desempenho, a qualidade dos ovos, a morfologia intestinal e a umidade das excretas. A inclusão de caulim promoveu melhora na altura das vilosidades do jejuno, possibilitando menor consumo de ração. Não houve diferenças significativas para a qualidade dos ovos. A umidade das excretas diminuiu com o aumento do nível de caulim na dieta, respondendo de forma linear. A inclusão de caulim ao nível de 5% nas rações de poedeiras semipesadas ao final do ciclo de produção melhorou a morfometria intestinal e a qualidade dos excrementos por meio da redução de sua umidade.

ABSTRACT: This study investigated the inclusion of kaolin levels in the diet of brown egg layers at the end of the production cycle. A completely randomized design involved the distribution of 288 brown egg layers into six treatments of eight replications, with six birds per replication. When the birds reached the age of 63 weeks, the feeding of the experimental diets began. Diets differed by the inclusion of increasing levels of kaolin: Control (no additive), and the inclusion of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% kaolin. The performance, egg quality, intestinal morphometry, and excreta moisture were evaluated. The inclusion of kaolin promoted improvement in the jejunum villus height, enabling less feed intake; however, there were no significant differences in egg quality. The excreta moisture decreased linearly as the kaolin level in the diet increased. The inclusion of 5% kaolin in the diet of brown egg layers at the end of the production cycle improved intestinal morphometry and the quality of excreta through a reduction of moisture.

RESUMO: Um experimento foi realizado para avaliar o efeito da diminuição dos níveis de vitamina D3 no premix e a suplementação de 1,25-dihidroxivitamina D3-glicosídeo (1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo) sobre o desempenho, rendimento de carcaça e qualidade óssea em frangos de corte de 42 dias. Machos Cobb500® de sete dias de idade foram distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis tratamentos: uma dieta controle com inclusão de vitamina D3 no premix, sem suplementação de 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo, e cinco dietas com níveis decrescentes de vitamina D3 (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% e 0% em relação ao controle) mais a adição de 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo (50g ton-1 de dieta). Entre os principais resultados, foi observado que a redução do teor de vitamina D3 no premix quando adicionado 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo não afetou (P>0,05) o desempenho, o rendimento da carcaça e as variáveis da qualidade óssea. No entanto, as variáveis do desempenho e o rendimento (consumo de ração, ganho de peso, conversão alimentar, peso da carcaça quente) e da qualidade dos ossos (peso seco, comprimento, matéria mineral e resistência à ruptura) de frangos alimentados com dietas sem vitamina D3 no premix, com a adição de 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo como a única fonte de vitamina D, teve como resultado valores muito baixos (P<0,05) em comparação ao controle. Para os propósitos da presente pesquisa, concluiu-se que é possível a redução do teor de vitamina D3 no premix até 75% quando a dieta de frangos de corte machos é suplementada com 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo. No entanto, o uso de 1,25(OH)2D3-glicosídeo como única fonte de vitamina D, conforme testado aqui, não é recomendado para dietas de frangos de corte.

ABSTRACT: An experiment was performed to evaluate the effect of decreased levels of vitamin D3 in the premix and 1,25-dyhydroxyvitamin D3-glycoside (1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside) supplementation on performance, carcass yield and bone quality in 42d old broilers. Seven-d-old male chickens Cobb500® were distributed in a randomized design with six treatments: a control diet with inclusion of vitamin D3 in the premix, without supplementation of 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside, and five diets with decreased levels of vitamin D3 (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% about the control) plus the addition of 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside, 50g ton-1 of diet. The main results were to reduce the tenor of Vitamin D3 in the premix when the addition of 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside did not affect (P>0.05) the performance, carcass yield and bone quality variables. However, performance (feed intake, gain weight, feed conversion), yield (warm carcass weight) and bone quality (dry weight, length, mineral matter and breaking strength) of broilers fed with diets without vitamin D3 in the premix and with addition of 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside, which was the single source of vitamin D, had as a result very low (P<0.05) values comparing to the control. For the purposes of the present research, it was concluded that is possible the reduction of vitamin D3 tenor in the premix up to 75% when the diet of male broilers is supplemented with 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside. However, the use of 1,25(OH)2D3-glycoside as a single source of vitamin D, as tested here, is not recommended for broilers diets.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o uso de rações, contendo prebiótico ou antibiótico, nas fases pré e pós-alojamento sobre o desempenho de frangos de corte. Foram utilizados 720 pintos de um dia, machos, da linhagem Cobb-3500, distribuídos em blocos casualizados com quatro tratamentos, com seis repetições de 30 aves cada. Os tratamentos consistiram em: Antibiótico - aves que consumiram ração com adição de antibiótico nas fases pré e pós-alojamento; Prebiótico - aves que consumiram ração com adição de prebiótico nas fases pré e pós-alojamento; Sem aditivo- aves que consumiram ração sem aditivo nas fases pré e pós-alojamento; Jejum - aves que permaneceram em jejum na fase pré-alojamento e consumo de ração com antibiótico nas fases pós-alojamento. O fornecimento de ração pré-alojamento, dentro das caixas de transporte se iniciou no incubatório, sendo o tempo pré-alojamento de 24 horas. Para avalição do desempenho produtivo das aves, aferiram-se as variáveis de: peso médio, consumo de ração, ganho de peso, conversão alimentar, fator de produção e viabilidade criatória. A utilização de ração préalojamento com prebiótico ou antibiótico promoveu melhorias significativas (P<0,05) no peso vivo e no ganho de peso dos pintos na fase de 1 a 7 dias. Tal fato ocorreu, independente do uso de aditivos nas rações fornecidas no préalojamento e na fase pré-inicial. O desempenho final dos frangos de corte não foi influenciado (P>0,05) pela utilização de aditivo nas fases de pré e pós-alojamento. Assim, conclui-se que o fornecimento de ração pré-alojamento não é necessária para frangos de corte, no período de jejum testado.

SUMMARY This study aimed to evaluate the use of feed containing prebiotic or antibiotic, in the pre and post accommodation on the performance of broilers. We used 720 day-old chicks, males, Cobb-500 strain, distributed in randomized blocks with four treatments with six replicates of 30 birds each. The treatments consisted of: Antibiotic - birds fed diet with added antibiotics in pre- and post-housing; Prebiotic - birds fed feed with added prebiotic in pre and post accommodation; No aditivo- birds fed without feed additive in pre- and post-housing; Fasting - birds fasted in the pre-stage housing and feed intake with antibiotics in the post-stage housing. The provision of pre-feed accommodation within the transport boxes started in the incubator, and the pre-accommodation time of 24 hours. For productive performance analysis of bird, have assessed the variables of: average weight, feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion, production factor and production viability. The use of pre-accommodation prebiotic or antibiotic property diet resulted in significant improvements (p<0.05) in body weight and weight gain of chicks in step 1 to 7 days. This happened regardless of the use of additives in feed provided the pre-housing and pre-initial phase. The final performance of broilers was not affected (P> 0.05) for the use of additives in the pre and post accommodation. Thus, it is concluded that the supply of prehousing portion is not required for broilers tested in fasting period.

RESUMO: Aspectos gerais sobre a utilização de aditivos zootécnicos equilibradores da flora intestinal em rações de aves de corte e de postura foram abordados nesta revisão, destacando-se a utilização de prebióticos, especialmente dos mananoligossacarídeos (MOSs), os quais promovem o crescimento das populações microbianas que melhoram as condições luminais. A utilização de aditivos equilibradores da flora intestinal tem revelado melhorias na integridade do epitélio intestinal (aumento da altura e largura das vilosidades), no desempenho (melhora na produção e conversão alimentar) e na qualidade do produto final (qualidade da casca dos ovos). Esta revisão objetivou abordar também aspectos relacionados às características, ao mecanismo de ação, além dos efeitos benéficos da utilização desses aditivos alternativos aos antibióticos na avicultura de corte e de postura, incluindo codornas japonesas.

ABSTRACT: The general aspects on the use of zootechnical additives that balance the intestinal flora in diets of broilers and laying were reviewed, highlighting the use of prebiotics, mainly Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS). These promote the growth of microbial population, thus improving luminal conditions. The use of additives balancing the intestinal flora has been shown to improve the integrity of the intestinal epithelium (increased villus height and width), performance (improvement in production and feed conversion), and quality of the final product (quality of shell eggs). This review also addresses issues related to the characteristics, mechanism of action, in addition to the beneficial effects of using these additives as an alternative to antibiotics in the poultry production, including Japanese quail.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho verificar o uso de ração nas fases de pré-alojamento e pré-inicial contendo prebiótico ou antibiótico como forma de se avaliar o impacto dessa nutrição sobre a perda de peso no trajeto incubatório-granja, assim como no peso dos órgãos do trato digestório de pintinhos de corte. Foram utilizados 720 pintos de corte, linhagem Cobb 500, distribuídos em quatro tratamentos em um delineamento inteiramente casualisado (ração sem aditivos nas fases de pré-alojamento e pré-inicial; ração com prebiótico nas fases pré-alojamento e pré-inicial; consumo de ração com antibiótico nas fases pré-alojamento e pré-inicial; Jejum no pré-alojamento e ração sem aditivo na fase pré-inicial). No incubatório, os pintos foram pesados e foi fornecida a ração pré-alojamento nas caixas de transporte. No galpão experimental, as aves foram pesadas novamente para calcular a perda de peso durante o trajeto incubatório-granja, e logo após as aves foram alojadas, dividindo as aves de cada tratamento em 6 repetições de 30 aves cada. A densidade de alojamento foi de 10aves/m2. Com um e sete dias de alojamento, uma ave por parcela foi abatida por deslocamento cervical para dissecção e pesagem dos órgãos gastrointestinais. A utilização de aditivos prebiótico ou antibiótico nas rações pré-alojamento e pré-inicial não contribuiu na diminuição da perda de peso durante o trajeto incubatório-granja, assim como seu uso não promoveu maior peso dos órgãos gastrointestinais.

SUMMARY The objective of this work was to verify the use of prebiotic or antibiotic in pre-housing and pre-start diets as a way to assess the impact of that nutrition on the corporal weight loss during path from hatchery tofarm, as well as the weight of digestive organs of chicks. Seven hundred and twenty day-old broiler chicks, Cobb 500, were distributed in four treatments in a completely randomized design (diet without additives in the pre – housing and pre – start phases; diet with prebiotic in the pre- housing and pre-start phases; diet with antibiotic in the pre-housing and pre – start phases; Fasting in the pre-housing and diet without additives in the pre-start phase). In the hatchery, the chicks were weighed and were provided to pre-housing diets in the transportation crates. In the experimental house, the birds were weighed again to calculate the weight loss during the course hatchery-farm, and soon after the birds were housed, dividing them into 6 replicates of 30 birds per treatment. The housing density was 10 birds/m2 With 1 and 7 days-old –, a bird per plot was harvested by cervical dislocation for dissection and weighing gastrointestinal organs. The use of prebiotic or antibiotic in pre-housing and pre-starter diets does not contribute in reducing weight loss during the course harchery-farm, as well as their use does not promote greater weight of gastrointestinal organs.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito da adição de caulim na ração sobre o desempenho, a umidade da cama e a morfologia intestinal de frangos de corte. Foram utilizados 492 frangos de corte, distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com três tratamentos e quatro repetições de 41 aves cada, dividido em 3 períodos (15-21 dias; 22-34 dias; 35-52 dias). Os tratamentos adotados foram os seguintes: Controle - ração referência sem adição de caulim; tratamento 1- ração referência + 0,75% de caulim; tratamento 2 - ração referência + 1,5% de caulim. As variáveis analisadas foram: consumo de ração, peso médio, ganho médio de peso, conversão alimentar, umidade da cama, altura das vilosidades e profundidade de cripta. A inclusão de caulim na ração reduziu significativamente o consumo, aumentou o peso e o ganho médio de peso e melhorou a conversão alimentar dos frangos. A umidade da cama diminuiu significativamente após inclusão de caulim na ração. A altura das vilosidades duodenais dos frangos aumentou significativamente após inclusão do caulim, enquanto que a profundidade das criptas não foi influenciada. A inclusão de 0,75% de caulim na dieta melhorou o desempenho, diminuiu a umidade da cama e beneficiou a integridade intestinal de frangos de corte.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of kaolin in the diet on performance, litter moisture and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens. Four hundred ninety-two broiler chickens distributed in a completely randomized design with three treatments and four replicates of 41 birds each, divided into three periods (15-21; 22-34; 35-52 days) were used. The following treatments were: Control - reference diet without added kaolin; treatment 1 - reference diet + 0.75% kaolin; Treatment 2 - reference diet + 1.5% kaolin. The variables analyzed were: feed intake, average weight, average weight gain, feed conversion, litter moisture, villus height and crypt depth. The inclusion of kaolin in the diet significantly reduced feed intake, increased weight and average weight gain and improved feed conversion of broilers. The litter moisture decreased significantly after the inclusion of kaolin in the diet. The height of the duodenal villi of broilers increased significantly after inclusion of kaolin, while crypt depth was not influenced. The inclusion 0.75% of kaolin in the diet improved the performance, decreased litter moisture and benefited the intestinal integrity of broilers.

Objetivou-se avaliar os benefícios da adição da parede celular de Sacharomyces cerevisiae (PCSC) e seu melhor nível de inclusão na dieta sobre o desempenho e a qualidade dos ovos produzidos por codornas japonesas (Coturnix coturnix japonica) na fase de produção. Foram utilizadas 400 codornas japonesas distribuídas em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e 10 repetições com 8 aves cada. Foram utilizadas cinco dietas com diferentes níveis de parede celular de S. cerevisiae (0 kg/t; 0.5kg/t; 1.0kg/t; 1.5kg/t; 2.0kg/t). Para análise do desempenho das aves e da qualidade dos ovos, as variáveis avaliadas foram: o consumo de ração, a produção de ovos, o peso médio dos ovos, a massa de ovos, a conversão alimentar por massa, a conversão alimentar por dúzia de ovos produzidos, a viabilidade, a percentagem dos constituintes do ovo (gema, albúmen e casca) e a espessura de casca. O peso dos ovos, a massa de ovos, a viabilidade, a percentagem da gema e a percentagem do albúmen não foram influenciadas pela inclusão de parede celular de S. cerevisiae na dieta das codornas japonesas. A inclusão de níveis crescentes de parede celular de S. cerevisiae até o nível de 1,5kg/t na dieta melhorou a produção, a conversão alimentar por dúzia, a conversão alimentar por massa e a qualidade da casca de ovos produzidos por codornas japonesas durante a fase de produção.

Aimed to evaluate the benefits of adding the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CWSC) and its best level in the diet on the performance and quality of eggs produced by Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica), during the production phase. 400 Japanese quails, were distributed in a complete random design, with five treatments and 10 replicates with 8 birds each. It was used five diets with different levels of cell wall of S. cerevisiae (0 kg/t; 0.5kg/t; 1.0kg/t; 1.5kg/t; 2.0kg/t). To analyze the performance of birds and egg quality, the variables evaluated were: feed intake, egg production, egg weight, egg mass, feed conversion per dozen of eggs produced, feed conversion per mass of eggs produced, viability, percentage of the yolk, percentage of the albumen, percentage of the shell and shell thickness. Egg weight, percentage of yolk and percentage of albumen were not influenced by the inclusion of cell wall of S. cerevisiae in the diet of Japanese quails. The increasing levels of cell wall of S. cerevisiae to the level of 1.5kg/t in the diet improved production, feed conversion per dozen, feed conversion per mass and shell quality of eggs produced by Japanese quail during the production phase.
