ABSTRACT Tifton 85 bermudagrass has been widely used in tropical and subtropical regions. Owing to its high forage yield, the fertilizer requirement of Tifton 85 is also high. Inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense is an alternative to reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizers and decrease their environmental impact. However, the effects of inoculation in tropical grasses remain poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the productivity, pasture characteristics, and nutritive value of Tifton 85 bermudagrass inoculated with A. brasilense in association with nitrogen fertilization. The study evaluated four nitrogen levels (0, 100, 200, and 300 kg ha-1 ), inoculated and uninoculated, under cutting conditions. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a factorial arrangement, with two qualitative (inoculated with A. brasilense or uninoculated) and four quantitative levels (nitrogen doses) with three replications (24 plots). Botanical composition and morphological characteristics, leaf blade/stem+sheath ratio, nutritive value, and forage yield were evaluated. The inoculation increased the leaf blade/stem+sheath ratio and forage yield of Tifton 85, but did not affect crude protein concentration, neutral detergent fiber content, and total digestible nutrient content of the forage constituted by Tifton 85 leaf blades. RESUMO O uso de inoculantes contendo bactérias promotoras do crescimento vegetal é uma alternativa para aumentar a eficiência de uso dos fertilizantes nitrogenados. Em trigo de duplo propósito estudos avaliando a inoculação sobre a produção de forragem, palha e grãos são escassos. Nesse sentido, avaliou-se a produção de forragem e o rendimento de grãos em trigo de duplo propósito inoculado com Azospirillum brasilense e fertilizado com doses de nitrogênio, nos anos agrícolas de 2016 e 2017, em condições de corte. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições, organizado em esquema fatorial. Os fatores foram a inoculação (com e sem) e às doses de nitrogênio (0, 50, 100 e 150 kg de N ha-1). Foram avaliadas a produção de forragem, o número de perfilhos, a produção de palha e a produção de grãos. As médias de produção de forragem total diferiram entre os tratamentos com e sem inoculação 3952 e 3350 kg de MS ha-1, respectivamente. Não houve efeito da inoculação sobre a produção de grãos. A produção de forragem e de biomassa de lâminas foliares, o número de perfilhos e a produção de palha são incrementados com o uso da inoculação.

ABSTRACT The use of inoculants containing plant growth-promoting bacteria is an alternative to increase the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers. Studies evaluating the effects of inoculation on forage yield, straw yield, and grain yield in dual-purpose wheat cultivars are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the forage yield and grain yield in dual-purpose wheat inoculated with Azospirillum brasilense and fertilized with increasing nitrogen rates during two agricultural years (2016-2017) under cutting management. The trial was carried out in a completely randomized block design with four replicates, using a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement. The factors were the inoculation (control or A. brasilense) and nitrogen rates (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1 of N). Forage, grain and straw yield, and number of tillers were evaluated. Forage yield differed between treatments with inoculation and without inoculation, 3952 and 3350 kg DM ha-1, respectively. There was no effect of inoculation on grain yield. The forage and leaf biomass yield, the number of tillers and straw yield increased with inoculation.

RESUMO Sistemas forrageiros constituídos pelo consórcio gramínea-leguminosa equilibram a oferta de forragem e minimizam impactos ambientais, pela redução da fertilização nitrogenada. O amendoim forrageiro tem várias características que são adequadas aos consórcios forrageiros, mas ainda não foram adequadamente explorados. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o consórcio constituído por capim bermuda, cv. Tifton 85, e o amendoim forrageiro quanto à produção de forragem, proteína bruta e taxa de lotação. Em dois anos agrícolas, foram avaliados três sistemas forrageiros assim constituídos: (a) Tifton 85 (T) + 100 kg de N ha-1 ano-1 + amendoim forrageiro (T + AF + 100); (b) T + 100 kg de N ha-1 ano-1 (T + 100; controle, somente gramínea); e (c) T + 200 kg de N ha-1 ano-1 (T + 200; controle positivo, somente gramínea). Neste estudo foram avaliados o rendimento de forragem, características da pastagem e respostas das vacas em lactação. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com três tratamentos (sistemas forrageiros) e três repetições (piquetes) e medidas repetidas (ciclos de pastejo dentro das estações do ano). O acúmulo de forragem, a concentração de proteína e a taxa de lotação foram de 15,1; 11,3 e 14,1 t de MS ha-1 ano-1; 17%, 16% e 17%; e 5,3; 4,9 e 6,1 UA ha-1 dia-1, respectivamente. Melhores resultados foram obtidos no consórcio forrageiro.

ABSTRACT Mixed pasture grass-legume systems balance forage supply and minimize environmental impacts by reducing the need for nitrogen fertilization. Pinto peanut (Arachis pintoi Krap. and Greg. “Amarillo”) has several traits that are suitable for mixed pastures but have not yet been adequately explored. The aim of this study was to evaluate a mixture of Tifton 85 bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) and pinto peanut and evaluate forage yield, crude protein, and stocking density. A two-year study of three grazing systems was used with the following treatment combinations: (a) Tifton 85 (T) + 100 kg N ha-1 yr-1 + pinto peanut (T + PP+100); (b) T + 100 kg N ha-1 yr-1 (T + 100; control, pure grass); and (c) T + 200 kg N ha-1 yr-1 (T + 200; positive control, pure grass). In this study, forage yield, pasture characteristics and responses of lactating cows were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized with three treatments (grazing systems), three replicates (paddocks), and repeated measures (grazing cycles within seasons). Forage accumulation, crude protein concentration, and stocking rate were 15.1; 11.3 and 14.1 t DM ha-1 yr-1; 17%, 16%, and 17%; and 5.3; 4.9 and 6.1 AU ha-1 day-1, respectively. The grass-legume system yielded the best results.

RESUMO. Na Região Sul do Brasil, uma das grandes limitações da pecuária leiteira é a escassez de forragem que normalmente ocorre no período compreendidio entre o outono e início do inverno. O cultivo de genótipos de trigo de duplo propósito é uma das alternativas para minimizar o impacto da carência de forragem e ainda produzir grãos. Assim, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar o valor nutritivo de dois genótipos de trigo de duplo propósito (BRS Tarumã e BRS Umbu). O delineamento experimental foi o completamente casualizado, com dois tratamentos (genótipos), três repetições de área e medidas repetidas no tempo (pastejos). Para o pastejo foram utilizadas vacas em lactação da raça Holandesa, recebendo complementação alimentar de 1 kg de concentrado para cada 5 litros de leite. Nos 108 dias experimentais foram conduzidos três ciclos de pastejo. Avaliou-se a composição estrutural do pasto e a extração de nitrogênio da forragem. O valor nutricional foi avaliado quanto aos teores de matéria mineral (MM), matéria orgânica (MO), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), proteína bruta (PB), nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT), digestibilidade in situ da matéria orgânica (DISMO) e digestibilidade in situ da matéria seca (DISMS). Houve diferença para a FDN (49,03 vs. 46,44%), PB (24,4 vs. 27,4%), DISMO (83,53 vs. 85,45%), DISMS (83,59 vs. 86,65%) e NDT (75,37 vs. 78,39) para os genótipos BRS Umbu e BRS Tarumã, respectivamente. Valores similares foram encontrados para MM (10,34%) e MO (89,66%). O genótipo BRS Umbu apresenta menores participações de lâminas foliares na massa de forragem do pasto e menor extração de nitrogênio da massa de forragem. O genótipo BRS Tarumã apresenta melhores resultados quanto ao valor nutricional da forragem, participação de lâminas foliares e extração de N.

ABSTRACT. In the south of Brazil, one of the major limitations to milk production is the low forage availability during autumn and early winter. The use of dual-purpose wheat genotypes is one alternative to minimize the impact of low forage availability in addition to produce grains. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the nutritional value of two dual-purpose wheat genotypes (BRS Tarumã and BRS Umbu). Structural composition and forage nitrogen uptake were evaluated. The nutritional value of the forage was analyzed for mineral matter (MM), organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), crude protein (CP), total digestible nutrients (TDN), in situ organic matter digestibility (ISOMD) and in situ dry matter digestibility (ISDMD). Differences in NDF (49.03 vs. 46.44%), CP (24.4 vs. 27.4%), ISOMD (83.53 vs. 85.45%), ISDMD (83.59 vs. 86.65%) and TDN (75.37 vs. 78.39) for BRS Umbu and BRS Tarumã genotypes were detected, respectively. The BRS Umbu genotype had a lower leaf blade proportion and forage nitrogen uptake. The dual-purpose wheat genotype BRS Tarumã was superior in nutritive value.

Com esta pesquisa, objetivou-se avaliar o valor nutritivo e a composição química da forragem de leguminosas consorciadas com o capim elefante (CE) + espécies de crescimento espontâneo (ECE) + azevém anual (AZ) + amendoim forrageiro (AF), como tratamento T1; e CE + ECE + AZ + trevo vermelho (TV), como T2. O CE foi estabelecido em linhas afastadas a cada 4 m. O azevém anual foi estabelecido entre as linhas do CE durante o período hibernal; o TV foi semeado e o AF foi preservado. O experimento foi realizado entre outubro de 2009 e abril de 2010, sendo realizados seis pastejos. Foram coletadas amostras de forragem das leguminosas, simulando o pastejo, para determinação dos teores de matéria orgânica (MO), proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), digestibilidade in situ da matéria orgânica (DISMO), fenóis totais (FT), taninos totais (TT) e taninos concentrados (TC). Os valores médios de MO, PB, FDN, DISMO, FT, TT e TC foram de 90,8; 20,96; 48,38; 86,68; 1,92; 1,42 e 1,39%; e de 91,84; 21,41; 41,36; 85,18; 1,90; 1,31 e 0,17% para o amendoim forrageiro e trevo vermelho, respectivamente. Valores superiores (p < 0,05) foram observados no teor de TC da forragem do amendoim forrageiro.

With this study, we aimed at evaluating the nutritional value and chemical composition of forage legume intercropping with elephant grass (EG) + spontaneous growth species (SGS) + annual ryegrass (AR) + peanut forage (PF), as treatment T1; and EG + SGS + AR + red clover (RD), as T2. The EG was planted in 4-m spaced rows. The annual ryegrass was planted between the EG rows during the cool season; the RC was sowed and the PF was preserved. The experiment was performed between October 2009 and April 2010, with six grazing cycles. Samples of forage legume was collected, under simulated the grazing, to determine the levels of organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), organic matter in situ digestibility (OMISD), total phenols (TF), total tannins (TT), and condensed tannins (CT). The mean values of OM, CP, NDF, OMISD, TF, TT and TC were 90.8, 20.96, 48.38, 86.68, 1.92, 1.42 and 1.39%; and 91.84, 21.41, 41.36, 85.18, 1.90, 1.31 and 0.17% for peanut forage and red clover, respectively. Higher values (p < 0.05) were observed in the level of CT of peanut forage.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar três sistemas forrageiros (SF) com capim elefante (CE) Pennisetum purpureum Schum., cv. 'MerckeronPinda' + espécies de crescimento espontâneo (ECE) + azevém anual (AZ) Lolium multiflorum Lam., cv. 'Comum', como SF1; CE + ECE + AZ + amendoim forrageiro (AF) Arachis pintoi Krap. e Greg., cv. 'Amarillo', como SF2; e CE + ECE + AZ + trevo vermelho (TV) Trifolium pratense L., cv. 'Estanzoela 116', como SF3. O CE foi estabelecido em linhas afastadas a cada 4m. O azevém anual foi estabelecido entre as linhas do CE durante o período hibernal; o TV foi semeado e o AF foi preservado nos respectivos tratamentos. Para avaliação, foram usadas vacas da raça Holandesa que receberam 5,5kg dia-1 como complemento alimentar. Foram avaliadas a taxa de acúmulo diário de matéria seca (TA), a massa de forragem desaparecida (MFD), a matéria seca desaparecida com base em 100kg de peso vivo (MSD) e a produção de forragem (PF), as composições botânica e estrutural do CE. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com três tratamentos (SF) e duas repetições (piquetes) em parcelas subdivididas no tempo (pastejo). Durante o período experimental (341 dias), foram efetuados nove ciclos de pastejo. Os valores médios de TA, MFD, MSD e PF foram de 53,16kg ha-1; 36,13%; 2,77kg de matéria seca por 100kg de peso vivo e 17,80t ha-1. Para a variável ECE, houve aumento significativo no SF1. Considerando a carga animal, o SF3 apresentou melhor desempenho.

The objective of this research was to evaluate of tree pasture-based systems (PS) with elephantgrass (EG) Pennisetum purpureum Schum., cv. 'Merckeron Pinda' + spontaneous growing species (SGS), annual ryegrass (RG) Lolium multiflorum Lam., cv. 'Comum', for PS1; EG + SGS + forage peanut (FP) Arachis pintoi Krap. e Greg., cv. 'Amarillo', for PS2; and EG + SGS + RG + red clover (RC) Trifolium pratense L., cv. 'Estanzoela 116', for PS3. EG was planted in lines with a distance of 4m each one of them. Ryegrass was sowed between rows of EG during the cool-season; red clover was sowed and the forage peanut was preserved on respectively treatments. Holstein cows receiving 5.5kg daily-1 complementary concentrate feed were used. The dry matter daily accumulation rate (DMA),disappearance of forage mass (DFM),dry matter disappeared based on 100kg of live weight (DMD),total dry matter production (TDM), botanical composition and structural component of EG were evaluated. The experimental design used was completely randomized with tree treatments (SF) and two replicates (paddocks) in incomplete split-plot time (grazing cycles). Nine grazing cycle were performed during the experimental period (341 days). The average values of DMA, DFM, DMD and TDM were 53.16kg ha-1, 36.13%, 2.77kg of dry matter per100kg of liveweight and 17.80t ha-1, respectively. SGS parameter increased significantly over in the PS1. Considering the stocking rate the PS3 showed a better performance.

The objective of this research was to estimate three pasture-based systems mixed with elephantgrass + spontaneous growth species, annual ryegrass, for pasture-based system 1; elephantgrass + spontaneous growth species + forage peanut, for pasture-based system 2; and elephantgrass + spontaneous growth species + annual ryegrass + red clover, for pasture-based system 3. Elephantgrass was planted in rows 4 m apart from each other. During the cool-season, annual ryegrass was sown in the alleys between the rows of elephantgrass; forage peanut and red clover were sown in the alleys between the elephantgrass according to the respective treatment. The experimental design was totally randomized in the three treatments (pasture-based systems), two replicates (paddocks) in completely split-plot time (grazing cycles). Holstein cows receiving 5.5 kg-daily complementary concentrate feed were used in the evaluation. Pre-grazing forage mass, botanical composition and stocking rate were evaluated. Samples of simulated grazing were collected to analyze organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), crude protein (CP) and organic matter in situ digestibility (OMISD). Nine grazing cycles were performed during the experimental period (341 days). The average dry matter values for pre-grazing and stocking rate were 3.34; 3.46; 3.79 t/ha, and 3.28; 3.34; 3.60 AU/ha for each respective pasture-based system. Similar results were observed between the pasture-based systems for OM, NDF, CP and OMISD. Considering forage mass, stocking rate and nutritive value, the pasture-based system intercropped with forage legumes presented better performance.
