ABSTRACT This article outlines a brief overview on the French language poetry written by Sérgio Milliet which came to be the start of his literary career. Unlike his poetry production in Portuguese, these inaugural poems were never revisited by the author in later editions of his poetic oeuvre. In addition to a quick perusal of the works published while still in his Genevese period (works of similar essence), we have the comments made on one of his poems published in the visual arts and literary magazine Klaxon, “La Guerre”, and on the book published in Belgium, in 1923, intitled Œil-de-bœuf. Diferentemente do destino reservado aos versos compostos em língua portuguesa, os poemas dessa fase inaugural não foram jamais retomados pelo autor em edições posteriores de sua obra poética. Abstract The purpose of the present article is to present six sonnets featured in first book published by Sérgio Milliet, Par le sentier (1917), in their original language and accompanied by their corresponding translation. They may not excel in creativity, but they reveal a young and sensitive writer who not only had good notions of the poetry-making process in fashion at the time in the French literary system, but also some familiarity with the work of authors less known to the contemporary reader, such as Albert Samain. Even though Sérgio Milliet abandoned writing in French when he returned definitely to Brazil in 1925, from this literary experience he kept a repertoire that was constantly drawn upon in his literary criticism. Resumo O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar seis sonetos publicados no livro de estreia de Sérgio Milliet, Par le sentier (1917), no original e acompanhados de tradução. Se não primam pela criatividade, tais sonetos revelam um jovem e sensível escritor que não apenas tinha boas noções do fazer poético em voga no sistema literário francês, mas também familiaridade com a obra de autores menos conhecidos dos leitores de hoje, como Albert Samain. Não obstante tenha abandonado a escrita em língua francesa quando de seu retorno definitivo ao Brasil em 1925, Sérgio Milliet guardará dessa experiência literária um repertório que será continuamente acionado em sua crítica. RESUMO Em 1918 Sérgio Milliet lançou, com Charles Reber, En singeant...: pastiches littéraires, segundo livro de sua lavra em solo suíço (um ano antes, saíra Par le sentier pela editora Le Carmel). O autor publicaria mais duas obras antes de retornar ao Brasil: Le départ sous la pluie e Œil de bœuf. O objetivo deste estudo é, à luz das reflexões sobre o pastiche propostas por Genette, Decout e Aron, apresentar – passando em revista o contexto de publicação e o rol de homenageados com as imitações – comentários acerca de um título que permanece desconhecido dos leitores e ignorado pela crítica.

ABSTRACT In 1918 Sérgio Milliet released, with Charles Reber, En singeant...: pastiches littéraires, the second work he wrote in Switzerland (a year before the publishing house Le Carmel had published Par le sentier). The author published two other volumes before returning to Brasil: Le départ sous la pluie and Œil de bœuf. The purpose of the present study is to present comments about a literary work remains unknown to readers and ignored by critics. The said study will be guided by the reflections on pastiche proposed by Genette, Decout and Aron, and will review the context of publication and the list of those honored by the pastiche imitations.
