Resumo O oídio do eucalipto, causado por Podosphaera pannosa, acarreta prejuízos em viveiros de eucalipto no Brasil. A avaliação dessa doença e os danos causados pela mesma, bem como a busca de formas eficientes de controle, justificam a necessidade da confecção de uma escala visual para quantificar a severidade nesse patossistema. O objetivo deste estudo foi elaborar uma escala diagramática para quantificar a severidade de oídio em folhas de eucalipto em viveiro. Para isso, folhas sintomáticas foram coletadas, escaneadas e digitalizadas para determinar sua área total e a área com sintomas. Dessa maneira, foram obtidos oito níveis de severidade, com base na distribuição das amostras. Para validação da escala, a severidade da doença foi estimada por dez avaliadores sem o auxílio da escala, e em seguida, com a utilização da escala proposta, em 60 folhas de eucalipto, com níveis de severidade heterogêneos. Determinou-se a precisão das estimativas obtidas calculando o coeficiente de determinação (R2) e realizou-se uma análise de regressão linear simples. Constatou-se precisão nas estimativas visuais de severidade do oídio em eucalipto com o uso da escala diagramática proposta, portanto, sua utilização é adequada e pode ser aplicada em estudos epidemiológicas e para avaliar estratégias de controle e manejo.

Abstract The Eucalyptus powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera pannosa can cause losses in eucalyptus nurseries in Brazil. The evaluation of this disease and the damages that could be caused by it, as well as the investigation for the efficient controlling forms, lead us to the need of having a visual scale, as means to quantify the severity of this pathosystem. This study had, as its goals, the development of a diagrammatic scale to evaluate the powdery mildew severity in eucalyptus leaves in a nursery home. To do so, symptomatic eucalyptus leaves were collected, scanned, and digitalized to determine the total leaf area and the area occupied with symptoms. Thus, we were able to obtain eight levels of severity based on the sample distribution. To validate the scale, the disease severity had been estimated by ten evaluators, which did not have the scale in hands, and in the sequence, the disease severity was estimated by using the proposed scale in 60 eucalyptus leaves, which had heterogeneous levels of severity. The precision of the obtained estimates obtained was by calculating the coefficient of determination (R2) and a simple linear regression analysis was performed. Precision was found in the visual estimates of the severity of powdery mildew in eucalyptus using the proposed diagrammatic scale, therefore, its use is adequate and being this possible to be used for epidemiological researches and to evaluate control and management strategies.

RESUMO O gênero Khaya engloba importantes espécies florestais produtoras de madeira, cujo lenho é utilizado principalmente na indústria moveleira e na construção civil. Dentre os membros desse gênero, Khaya senegalensis é uma das espécies mais cultivadas no Brasil. A murcha-de-ceratocystis está entre as principais doenças dessa cultura, se tornando limitante caso não manejada adequadamente. Até o momento não foram conduzidos estudos epidemiológicos envolvendo essa patologia em K. senegalensis. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a disseminação da murcha-de-ceratocystis em K. senegalensis, por meio da técnica de Análise da Dinâmica e Estrutura de Focos (ADEF) e do Índice de Dispersão (ID). Instalou-se três parcelas com 540 indivíduos cada no interior de um talhão puro dessa espécie florestal. A quantificação da doença foi realizada anualmente de 2016 a 2018, sendo elaborados mapas de dispersão das plantas doentes, os quais serviram de base para as análises. Pela ADEF, observou-se o padrão agregado em todas as parcelas e anos avaliados, com focos apresentando crescimento isodiamétrico. No entanto, pela técnica do ID, o padrão variou entre ao acaso e agregado, em função do tamanho do quadrat utilizado na análise. Pelo tamanho dos focos observados na área experimental, recomendou-se o uso de quadrats maiores no ID, que indicaram um padrão agregado na maior parte das parcelas. Pôde-se concluir que no patossistema estudado houve tendência a agregação das plantas doentes, com uma provável participação da ferramenta de poda no processo de disseminação e/ou infecção pelo agente causal.

ABSTRACTUMO The genus Khaya includes important forest species, whose wood is used mainly in the furniture industry and civil construction. Khaya senegalensis is one of the most cultivated species in Brazil. Ceratocystis wilt is one of the main diseases of this culture, offering a serious risk if not properly managed. However, no epidemiological studies have been conducted involving this pathology in K. senegalensis. The objective of this work was to characterize the spread of Ceratocystis wilt in K. senegalensis, using the Dynamics and Foci Structure Analysis technique (DFSA) and the Dispersion Index (DI). Three plots with 540 individuals each were installed inside a plantation of this species. The quantification of the disease was done annually from 2016 to 2018, with the elaboration of dispersion maps of diseased plants, which served as the basis for all the analyzes performed. According to DFSA, the aggregate pattern was observed in all plots and years evaluated, with disease foci showing isodiametric growth. However, using the ID technique, the pattern varied between random and aggregate, depending on the size of the quadrat used. Due to the size of the foci observed in the experimental area, the use of larger quadrats in the ID was recommended, which indicated an aggregate pattern in most plots. Thus, it was possible to conclude here was a tendency for the aggregation of diseased plants, with a probable participation of the pruning tool in the process of spreading and/or infection by the causal agent.

Abstract Teak (Tectona grandis) rust, caused by the fungus Olivea tectonae, has been present in several regions of Brazil in severe cases that lead to the premature fall of the leaves and even the death of the plant. However, there is still no standard method for assessment of disease severity in the field. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a diagrammatic scale to quantify the rust severity in leaves of teak. The diagrammatic scale was developed based on disease severity encompassing 0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80% of the leaf area with rust symptom. The scale was validated by 10 raters, who analyzed 50 leaves with a range of disease severity, without and with diagrammatic scale as an assessment aid. The raters presented differences in the perception of the severity levels of the disease. With the adoption of the diagrammatic scale all the raters improved the accuracy of the estimates, there was a reduction in the absolute errors and good estimates of repeatability. The proposed diagrammatic scale is suitable for the evaluation of the rust severity in teak leaves, being able to provide accuracy and repeatability of estimates.

Resumen La roya de la teca (Tectona grandis), causada pelo fungo Olivea tectonae, se ha presentado en varias regiones de Brasil en casos graves que conducen a la caída prematura de las hojas e incluso la muerte de la planta. Sin embargo, todavía no existe un método estándar para la evaluación de la severidad de la enfermedad en el campo. El objetivo de este estudio fue desarrollar y validar una escala diagramática para cuantificar la severidad de la roya en hojas de teca. La escala diagramática se desarrolló en función de la severidad de la enfermedad que abarca 0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 40 y 80% del área foliar con síntomas de roya. La escala fue validada por 10 evaluadores, que analizaron 50 hojas con un rango de severidad de la enfermedad, sin y con escala diagramática como ayuda de evaluación. Los evaluadores presentaron diferencias en la percepción de los niveles de severidad de la enfermedad. Con la adopción de la escala diagramática todos los evaluadores mejoraron la precisión de las estimaciones, hubo reducción en los errores absolutos y buenas estimaciones de repetitividad. La escala diagramática propuesta es adecuada para la evaluación de la severidad de la roya en las hojas de teca, siendo capaz de proporcionar precisión y repetitividad das estimativas.

Avaliou-se a variabilidade genética em progênies de Eucalyptus dunnii Maiden para resistência à ferrugem (Puccinia psidii). Experimentos de campo foram instalados em duas regiões edafoclimáticas.Progênies de polinização aberta foram estabelecidas em um delineamento emblocos casualizados. Em condições de campo foram avaliadas 60 e 48 progênies emdois locais, com seis repetições e oito plantas por parcela. Instalou-se tambémum experimento em ambiente controlado, com 53 progênies, em blocoscasualizados, com seis repetições e nove plantas por parcela. Foram avaliadas altura da planta e a severidade de ataque que determinam a fase mais suscetível à doença foliar. A população de E. dunnii estudada apresentou altavariabilidade genética para resistência à ferrugem, com coeficiente de variaçãogenética de 36, 07% e 70% das progênies avaliadas foram imunes a ferrugem. Istoindica alto potencial para seleção e melhoramento da espécie.

This study investigated the genetic variability in progenies of Eucalyptus dunnii Maiden for resistance against rust (Puccinia psidii). Field experiments were installed in two regions with differentsoil-climatic conditions. Open-pollinated progenies were established in arandomized complete block design. Sixty and 48 progenies were evaluated underfield conditions at two sites, respectively, with six replications and eight trees per plot. In another experiment in a controlled environment, 53 progenies were evaluated in randomized blocks with six replications and nine plants perplot. The following traits were evaluated: plant height, severity of pestattack and the most susceptible stage to the leaf disease. The genetic variability for rust resistance in the E. dunnii population under studywas high, with a genetic coefficient of variation of 36.07%; 7% of thee valuated progenies were rust-resistant. It indicates a high potential for selection and breeding of the species.

RESUMO A mancha foliar (mancha de micosferela) causada por Teratosphaeria nubilosa tem acarretado prejuízos em plantios de eucalipto na região Sul e Sudeste do Brasil. A necessidade de avaliar a doença no campo e os danos causados pela mesma, bem como a busca de formas eficientes de controle e a utilização de germoplasma, leva à necessidade em ter uma escala visual para quantificação da severidade da doença. O objetivo deste trabalho foi elaborar uma escala diagramática com folhas jovens e com folhas adultas de Eucalyptus globulus, para avaliação de mancha de micosferela. Para tal, as folhas coletadas em campo foram escaneadas para digitalização da imagem. Determinou-se a área lesionada, área foliar sadia e área total em escala RGB (Red, Green, Blue). Posteriormente, determinaram-se os níveis de severidade em função da distribuição da amostra, sendo sete níveis para folhas jovens e seis para folhas adultas. Para o teste de acuidade visual e validação da escala, as folhas foram submetidas à avaliação da severidade, com e sem escala. Com a adoção das escalas propostas, a totalidade dos avaliadores apresentou boa acurácia, tanto para folhas jovens como para adultas com R2=0,98 e R2=0,80, respectivamente. A importância da elaboração de escalas diagramáticas para quantificar a severidade de mancha em eucalipto deve-se ao fato de permitir a quantificação dos sintomas de forma acurada e precisa.

ABSTRACT The leaf spot (Mycosphaerella leaf disease = MLD) caused by Teratosphaeria nubilosa has caused damage in eucalypt plantations in southern and southeastern Brazil. The need to assess the disease in the field to evaluate of this damage, efficiency control, evaluation of germplasm induces to the necessity of having a visual scale for evaluation of disease. The objective was to develop a diagrammatic scale for young leaves and one for adult leaves of Eucalyptus globules for MLD. To do so, the leaves collected in the field were scanned for image analysis. The damaged area, the healthy leaf area and the external area of the same scale RGB (Red, Green, Blue) were determined. Subsequently, it was determinate the levels of severity depending on the sample distribution with seven levels for young leaves and six for adult leaves. For the visual acuity test and validate the scale, the leaves were evaluated for severity, with and without scale. With this proposed scales, the assessors showed good accuracy both for young and adult leaves with R2=0,98 and R2=0,80, respectively. The importance of the development of diagrammatic scales for assessing MLD in eucalyptus must to the fact that allows quantification of the symptoms accurately and precisely.

O agente causal da ferrugem da teca (Olivea neotectonae) vem atacando as plantações de diversos países que possuem plantios naturais ou comerciais. Ocasiona desfolha intensa das plantas contribuindo para a redução da área fotossintética e consequentemente, a produção. Especialmente associado a viveiros, apresenta maior severidade em plantas com menos de 10 anos de idade. Como sintomas da infecção são observadas manchas marrons e como sinais, soros pulverulentos de cor amarelo alaranjado. Em maio de 2009, estes sintomas e sinais foram observados em folhas de teca, provenientes do norte do estado do Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Tocantins e da região centro-oeste do estado São Paulo, recebidos pelo laboratório de Patologia Florestal da FCA UNESP-Botucatu. O objetivo do presente trabalho é fazer o registro dessas constatações nos estados brasileiros e uma breve revisão sobre a denominação correta do patógeno.

The causal agent of rust teak (Olivea neotectonae) has attacked the teak plantations in several countries of world. It causes severe defoliation of the plants contributing to the reduction of photosynthetic area and hence the production. Especially associated with nurseries plants is more severe in plants with less than 10 years of age. The symptoms of infection are seen as brown spots and signs, serum powdery yellow-orange color. In May 2009 these symptoms and signs were observed in leaves of teak coming from the northern state of Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Tocantins and the Midwest state of São Paulo, received by the laboratory of Forest Pathology of FCA-UNESP Botucatu. The aim of this work is to record these observations in the Brazilian states and a brief review on the correct designation of the pathogen.
