Resumo A produção de flores e plantas ornamentais tem apresentado crescimento contínuo, e demandado constantes inovações no setor. A batata-doce (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) é uma hortaliça tuberosa que tem atraído produtores e paisagistas devidos as suas características ornamentais de suas folhas e ramas. No entanto, a introdução das batatas-doces com finalidade ornamental é recente no mercado brasileiro. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o potencial ornamental de cinco genótipos de batata-doce (IAC104, IAC116, IAC401, IAC909 e IAC1024), por meio de caracterização morfológica, além de avaliar o efeito da densidade de plantas por vaso (1, 2 e 3 plantas por vaso) no desenvolvimento da parte aérea e das raízes tuberosas. Os genótipos IAC116, IAC401 e IAC909 demonstraram características de plantas eretas e compactas, enquanto IAC401 e IAC1024 foram classificadas como semieretas, sendo que apenas a IAC1024 apresentou ápice trepador. O aumento na densidade de plantas por vaso resultou em um aumento significativo tanto no número quanto na massa fresca das raízes tuberosas por vaso, contudo, não houve diferença significativa na massa fresca da parte aérea. Como resultado deste estudo, foram registradas junto ao Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (MAPA) as cinco primeiras cultivares de batata-doce ornamental do Brasil, denominadas ‘IAC Claudia’, ‘IAC Katherine’, ‘IAC Mara’, ‘IAC Mônica’ e ‘IAC Yoka’, com os números de registro 51087, 51090, 51091, 51092 e 51093, respectivamente. contínuo setor batatadoce batata doce Ipomoea L. Abstract The production of flowers and ornamental plants has shown continuous growth and demanded constant innovations in the sector. The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) is a tuberous vegetable that has attracted consumers, growers and landscapers due to its ornamental characteristics of its leaves and vines. However, the introduction of sweet potatoes for ornamental purposes is recent in the Brazilian market. The objective of this study was to investigate the ornamental potential of five sweet potato genotypes (IAC104, IAC116, IAC401, IAC909 and IAC1024), through morphological characterization, in addition to evaluating the effect of plant density in pot (1, 2 and 3 plants in pot) on the development of the aerial part and storage roots. The genotypes IAC116, IAC401 and IAC909 showed characteristics of erect and compact plants, while IAC401 and IAC1024 were classified as semi-erect, with only IAC1024 showing a twining vine. Increasing the density of plants resulted in a significant increase in both the number and fresh matter of storage roots in pot, but there was no significant difference in the fresh matter of the aerial part. ABSTRACT The sweet potato cultivar ‘IAC 134 AL01’ has tuberous roots with high β-carotene content, with the fresh pulp having an intermediate orange colour (based on international descriptors for the crop), which turns bright orange after cooking, and a mildly sweet taste. Abstract The objective of this research was to select orange-fleshed sweet potato clones with high stability, yield, and β-carotene content in different planting seasons, using a selection index. Joint analysis of experiments and analysis of responsiveness and stability by the GGE biplot method were performed for the variables yield, dry matter percentage, and root flesh color. The variables yield, dry matter, color and stability were used to estimate a selection index. The GGE biplot analysis indicated that there are differences among clones in stability for Yield. However, the percentage of dry matter and color of the roots show low interaction in the different environments. Because of that, stability for yield was included in the selection index, together with yield, dry matter, and root orange color intensity. A avaliação do desempenho de barras de pulverização pode ser feita com base no padrão de distribuição ou deposição do líquido de cada bico individual em mesa de prova. Neste trabalho, compararam-se os padrões de deposição produzidos por diversos bicos em várias alturas. Os resultados mostraram melhor desempenho para os bicos TF e XR, seguido por TJ60-8010, TJ60-8006 e FL. Os bicos TJ60-11006 e TQ mostraram problemas localizados e TK foi considerado o pior entre os testados. Foram propostos modelos para representar as relações entre estatísticas obtidas no padrão e na altura do alvo.

The performance of a spray boom can be evaluated from the individual nozzle distribution patterns determined in a patternator. The distribution patterns of several nozzle types were compared at several heights. The TF and XR nozzles showed the best performances, followed by TJ60-8010, TJ60-8006 and the FL nozzles. The nozzles TJ60-11006 and TQ showed some localized problems and TK nozzles had the worst results. O período de plantio da cultura da mandioca, no Estado de São Paulo, é extenso, de maio a outubro. Existem grandes diferenças no desenvolvimento de suas plantas e na matointerferência nas diferentes épocas de plantio. Com o objetivo de avaliar a produção e acúmulo de matéria seca das plantas de mandioca cv. SRT 59 - Branca de Santa Catarina, na presença e na ausência de plantas infestantes, foram desenvolvidos quatro experimentos, em quatro épocas de plantio, em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições (com plantio em 30-10-1989) ou quatro (com plantios em 28-6-1989; 30-6-1989 e 23-7-1990). As plantas foram submetidas a períodos crescentes na presença e na ausência de plantas infestantes e amostradas aos 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270 e 360 dias a partir do plantio. Análises de crescimento da cultura evidenciaram que, nas parcelas mantidas por períodos no mato, houve drástica redução no acúmulo de matéria seca pelas plantas, estando as perdas de produção de raízes próximas de 90%. As curvas de acúmulo de matéria seca nas raízes foram mais bem explicadas pela equação sigmoidal de Boltzman, embora, para os períodos crescentes na presença de plantas infestantes, para dois dos experimentos, os coeficientes de determinação não tenham sido significativos. As maiores produções de matéria seca nas raízes foram obtidas aos 360 dias do plantio.

The period for cassava planting is very wide in São Paulo State, Brazil, covering the whole dry season (May to October). There are large differences in the plant growth and its interference with the weed community when the planting time is early or late in the dry season. Aiming to study the weed interference on cassava growth and productivity, four field assays were carried out under different planting times (06/28/1989, 06/30/1989, 10/30/1989, and 07/23/1990) in a randomized complete blocks experimental design with three or four replications. The treatments were divided in two groups: in the first one (group 1), the crop was maintained weedy from the planting date to 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270 and 360 days. In the second group (group 2), the crop was kept weed free from the planting date to 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, and 360 days. The weed interference reduced drastically the dry matter accumulation by the cassava plants and the root production losses reached up to 90%. The increase in the rate of dry matter accumulation in the cassava roots in the presence of weed could not be analyzed in two assays. In the group 2, all the data were properly analyzed in the four assays. The Boltzman Sigmoidal Equation suited well the data on cassava root dry matter accumulation and provides good prediction models. The best dry matter production was obtained for 360 day old roots.

O presente trabalho foi realizado em 1988, na Estação Experimental de Agronomia da Alta Paulista, em Adamantina, na safra da seca, para estudar o efeito de diferentes períodos de competição do mato no amendoim. Os tratamentos foram vinte, a saber: com e sem presença do mato em todo o ciclo da cultura e, os resultantes da combinação fatorial entre a presença e a ausência de mato no início da cultura e as épocas de remoção da flora infestante - 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 e 100 dias após a semeadura. Cada parcela foi constituída de quatro linhas, com bordadura comum entre as unidades experimentais, perfazendo, com a área útil, 6,0 m2. As espécies da flora infestante que ocorreram com maior freqüência foram Cyperus lanceolatus Poir., Digitaria horizontallis Willd., Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. e Portulaca oleracea L. A convivência do mato com o amendoim diminuiu a produção de vagens e de grãos e a biomassa seca da planta. Não se observou efeito do mato sobre o índice de colheita e o rendimento de grãos em nenhum dos períodos estudados. Uma capina aplicada oito dias ou aos 73 dias após a semeadura, respectivamente, para os tratamentos sem e com mato no início, foi suficiente para a produção de vagens de amendoim estatisticamente igual à obtida quando a cultura foi mantida sem competição durante todo o ciclo.

A field experiment was carried out at Adamantina, State of São Paulo, Brazil, to study different periods of weed competition with peanut. The treatments were 20: with and without weed presence through the crop cycle and those resulting from factorial combinations among presence and ausence of weed in the beginning of crop and the time of weed removal - 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 days after sowing. Each plot was constituted of four lines, with common border among experimental units, with useful area reading 6.0 m2. Weed species, occurring with higher frequencies were Cyperus lanceolatus Poir., Digitaria horizontallis Willd., Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. and Portulaca oleracea L. The weed association with the peanut crop decreased pod and kernel yields and peanut dry matter. No weed effects were observed on harvest indexes and shelling percentages in any of the studied periods. A weeding operation done eight or 73 days after sowing, for treatments without and with weeds respectively, was sufficient for obtaining peanut pod yields statistically similar to those obtained when the peanut crop was maintained without competition during all cycle.

As características culinárias peculiares dos rizomas de mangará ( Xanthosoma mafaffa Schott ), mais conhecido como mangarito, fazem com que seja muito apreciado pela popu-lação rural paulista que o produz. Pode, no entanto, popularizar-se como produto hortigrangeiro nacional, caso haja aumento da produção e da qualidade comercial de seus rizomas mediante progresso tecnológico. Neste trabalho, estudou-se o efeito de dois tama-nhos de rizoma-semente (grande e pequeno, 5 e 2 g respectivamente), de três épocas de plantio (início, meado e fim de outubro de 1985), em três locais do Estado de São Paulo, sem a utilização de irrigação complementar. Serra Negra, com solo aluvial e produtividade média de 17,1 t/ha, ofereceu as melhores condições para o desenvolvimento da planta, seguida de Monte Alegre do Sul, que alcançou 10,2 t/ha em um Podzólico Vermelho-Amarelo orto. Nesses dois locais, as produções decresceram na medida em que se atrasou o plantio. Em Itu, num solo Podzólico Vermelho-Amarelo variação Laras, não houve produção por deficiência hídrica. Em geral, os rizomas-semente do tipo grande superaram os pequenos em termos de produção e houve interações entre o tamanho dos rizomas- -semente e a época de plantio; observou-se que o efeito do tamanho da muda foi sempre mais evidenciado na primeira época de plantio.

Tannia or yutia (Xanthosoma mafaffa Schott) is actually produced as a self supply food for farmers and for consumption in local markets. Research progresses for increasing tannia corms yields will possibly result in a new option in marketing, as a profitable vegetable. Three field trials, without irrigation, were carried out in different locations of the São Paulo State, to study the effects of climate, cormel size and soil type on plant growth and corm production. In the experiment at Itu, plants did not grow well because of the soil (sandy well drained soil) and climate (Cwa type) conditions. At Serra Negra, in a climate Cfa type and alluvial soil, the final corm yield was 17,1 t/ha, while at Monte Alegre do Sul, in an Ortho-Red Yellow Podzolic soil, the yield was 10,2 t/ha. Larger cormel seeds (5 g), resulted in higher corm yields. Although these tests indicated that better yields were obtained with earlier planting dates, interaction among the seed weight, and planting time and site was observed.

Estudaram-se efeitos de misturas de graminicidas com latifolicidas, aplicados em pós-emergência, acrescidos ou não de seus respectivos adjuvantes, no controle de plantas infestantes na cultura da soja (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) cv. IAC-8, em condições de campo. Os tratamentos consistiram em quatro graminicidas (haloxifop-metil, HM; sethoxydim, S; quizalofop-etil, QE e fluazifop-p-butil, FpB) e quatro latifolicidas (chlorimuron-etil, CE; fomesafen, Fom; fluoroglycofen, Flu e lactofen, Lac), aplicados isoladamente e em misturas, além das testemunhas com e sem convivência da cultura com a comunidade infestante. Os resultados mostraram que os adjuvantes, de maneira geral, intensificaram a injúria dos herbicidas. Os graminicidas mais eficazes, aplicados isoladamente ou em misturas, no controle de Eleusine indica e de monocotiledôneas, foram HM, QE e FpB. Não houve diferenças significativas no controle de Digitaria horizontalis entre os quatro graminicidas isolados; porém, as melhores misturas foram as que utilizaram os graminicidas QE ou HM. Para controle de Mollugo verticillata, os melhores tratamentos foram obtidos com Lac aplicado isoladamente e com as misturas de QE, S ou HM com Fom e seus respectivos adjuvantes. As misturas de tanque apresentaram efeitos predominantemente antagonísticos no controle de E. indica, D. horizontalis e monocotiledôneas. Efeitos estatis-ticamente antagonísticos e sinergísticos no controle de M. verticillata foram obtidos, respec-tivamente, nas misturas de tanque com Lac e com Fom. Uma possível interação entre os adjuvantes e as misturas de herbicidas ocorreu nas avaliações de controle para E. indica, quando as misturas de S ou de HM foram usadas com ou sem adjuvantes. Os tratamentos com herbicidas não influíram na produção do cultivar de soja IAC-8.

Mixtures of narrowleaf and broadleaf herbicides, with or without their respective surfactants, were evaluated as to postemergence selectivity for weed control in a soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) cv. IAC-8 field experiment. Four narrowleaf herbicides (haloxyfop-methyl, HM; sethoxydim, S; quizalofop-ethyl, QE and fluazyfop-p-butyl, FpB) and four broadleaf herbicides (chlorimuron-ethyl, CE; fomesafen, Fom; fluoroglycofen, Flu and lactofen, Lac) were applied either alone or mixed. Two controls, manual weeding and no weeding, were included. The surfactants increased the fitotoxicity of the herbicides. The most effective narrowleaf herbicides applied either alone or in mixtures, in controlling Eleusine indica and narrowleaf weeds were HM, QE and FpB. No significant differences were observed among the four narrowleaf herbicides for the control of Digitaria horizontalis Willd. However, the best mixture combinations were those with QE or HM. The best control of Mollugo verticillata L. was obtained with Lac and mixtures of Fom and QE, S and HM with their respective surfactants. The tank mixtures resulted in antagonistic effects for the control of E. indica, D. horizontalis and narrowleaf weeds. Antagonistic effects were observed in the control of M. verticillata, when Lac was mixed with the following herbicides: S, HM, QE or FpB. Sinergistic effects were observed in the control of this species with mixture of Fom with S, HM and FpB. A possible interaction among the mixtures of herbicides with their surfactants was observed in E. indica control, when the mixtures with narrowleaf herbicides, S or HM, were used, alone or mixed with their respective surfactants. Soybean production was not affected by the tested herbicides treatments, when compared with the manual weeded control.
