Six known compounds, three peptide derivatives: cyclo-(tryptophyl-phenylalanyl) (2), diketopiperazine dimer WIN 64821 (3) and 3-hydroxy-15H-tryptophenaline (4), one adenine derivative: 2-hydroxy-6-N-isopentenyl-adenine (5), one phtalide derivative: 4-methoxyphtalide (1) and one benzoic acid derivative: 3-hydroxy-4-(1-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-hexyl) benzoic acid (6), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus Aspergillus versicolor associated with the Piper aduncum plant. Their structures were determined on the basis of detailed interpretation of 1 D and 2D NMR spectra and in comparison with works reported in the literature. This paper, in effect, deals with the first report of these compounds in A. versicolor.

Jacaranda decurrens (Bignoniaceae) is an endemic species of the Cerrado with validated antitumoral activity. The genetic diversity of six populations of J. decurrens located in the State of São Paulo was determined in this study by using molecular markers for randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). Following optimization of the amplification reaction, 10 selected primers generated 78 reproducible RAPD fragments that were mostly (69.2%) polymorphic. Two hundred and five reproducible AFLP fragments were generated by using four selected primer combinations; 46.3% of these fragments were polymorphic, indicating a considerable level of genetic diversity. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) using these two groups of markers indicated that variability was strongly structured amongst populations. The unweighted pair group method with arithmatic mean (UPGMA) and Pearson's correlation coefficient (RAPD -0.16, p = 0.2082; AFLP 0.37, p = 0.1006) between genetic matrices and geographic distances suggested that the population structure followed an island model in which a single population of infinite size gave rise to the current populations of J. decurrens, independently of their spatial position. The results of this study indicate that RAPD and AFLP markers were similarly efficient in measuring the genetic variability amongst natural populations of J. decurrens. These data may be useful for developing strategies for the preservation of this medicinal species in the Cerrado.

Um fungo semelhante aos do gênero Eutypa foi isolado da madeira do caule de Murraya paniculata. Cultivado em meio líquido, o fungo produziu o novo sesquiterpeno do tipo guaiano (1R,4S,5S,7R,10R)-10-hidroxiguaianol-10-O-β-manopiranosídeo e um diastereômero da harzialactona A, a 3-hidróxi-5-fenilmetil-(3S,5R)-tetraidrofuran-2-ona, obtida pela primeira vez como produto natural. As estruturas desses metabólitos foram elucidadas com base na análise dos seus respectivos dados espectroscópicos.

A Eutypa-like fungus was isolated from the stems of Murraya paniculata. The fungus was cultivated in liquid medium and produced the new guaiane-type sesquiterpenoid (1R,4S,5S,7R,10R)-10-hydroxyguaianol 10-O-β-mannopyranoside and the 3-hydroxy-5-phenylmethyl-(3S,5R)-tetrahydrofuran-2-one, a diastereomer of harzialactone A, obtained for the first time from a natural source. The structures of these metabolites were elucidated based on analysis of their spectroscopic data.

Analisámos o espectro polínico de 36 amostras de mel da cresta de 2000 provenientes da região do Alentejo (Portugal). As amostras foram tratadas pelo método de acetólise e contados pelo menos 1200 grãos de pólen por amostra. Foram identificadas 27 famílias botânicas e 36 tipos polínicos. As principais espécies nectaríferas identificadas no espectro polínico foram a Lavandula stoechas e o Echium plantagineum. Das 36 amostras analisadas, 39% foram classificadas como mel monofloral de rosmaninho, 33% de soagem e 28% multifloral.

Le spectre pollinique de 36 échantillons de miel de la région de l'Alentejo (Portugal) récolté en 2000 a été étudié. Les échantillons ont été traités par la méthode d'acétolyse et ont été comptés au moins 1200 grains de pollen pour chaque échantillon. 27 familles botaniques et 36 types polliniques ont été identifiés. Les principales espèces nectarifères identifiées dans le spectre pollinique ont été la Lavandula stoechas et l'Echium plantagineum. De tous les 36 échantillons analysés ont été obtenus 39% d'échantillons de miel monofloral de romarin, 33% de vipérine et 28% de multifloral.

The pollen spectra of 36 samples of honey produced in the Alentejo region (Portugal) were analysed during the year 2000. These samples were treated through acetolysis and at least 1200 pollen grains were counted per sample. 27 botanical families and 36 pollinic types were identified. Lavandula stoechas and Echium plantagineum were the principle nectariferous species in the pollen spectra. Of the 36 samples analysed, 39% were unifloral of Lavander honey, 33% of Viper's bugloss honey and 28% of multifloral honey.
