RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito dos níveis de caroço de algodão (0; 100; 200; 300 e 400 g Kg-1) na terminação de cordeiros sobre os parâmetros físicos e químicos da carne. Utilizou-se 45 cordeiros, machos, não castrados, distribuídos ao acaso em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco tratamentos e nove repetições cada. Os valores de pH, não foram influenciados pelos níveis de caroço de algodão. Os teores de lipídios e cinzas apresentaram diferença significativa, mas não foram ajustados pelas equações lineares ou quadráticas. As variáveis perdas por descongelamento e coesividade aumentaram, e a atividade de água e capacidade de retenção de água diminuíram com o incremento de caroço de algodão na dieta. Já os tocoferóis, perdas por cocção, dureza e mastigabilidade foram ajustados através de equações quadráticas. Na avaliação instrumental de cor o L*, b* e h° demonstraram comportamento linear crescente. Logo a inclusão de até 400 g de caroço de algodão na dieta influencia a composição físico-química e na cor da carne produzida.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of cottonseed (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 g Kg-1) on the physical and chemical parameters of the meat of finishing lambs. Forty-five uncastrated male lambs were distributed in a completely randomised design with five treatments of nine replications. The pH values were not influenced by the levels of cottonseed. The lipid and ash content showed significant differences, but were not adjusted by the linear or quadratic equations. Losses during thawing increased, as did cohesiveness, and water activity and water retention capacity decreased as the levels of cottonseed in the diet rose. Tocopherols, cooking loss, toughness and chewiness were adjusted using quadratic equations. In the instrumental colour evaluation, L*, b* and h° showed increasing linear behaviour. The inclusion of up to 400 g of cottonseed in the diet affects the physical-chemical composition and the colour of the produced meat.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o comportamento ingestivo de cordeiros ou borregos terminados em confinamento com dietas de alto concentrado à base de grão de milho ou de sorgo. Foram utilizados 32 animais, sendo 16 cordeiros (dente de leite) e 16 borregos (2 dentes), os quais foram distribuídos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 (duas categorias x dois grãos). Nas categorias avaliadas (cordeiros e borregos), verificou-se diferença significativa (P≤0,05) para tempo de mastigação total, tempo em ócio e outras atividades (expressos em min/day e percentagem), número de refeições por dia, tempo despendido por refeição e para peso de matéria seca ou de FDN ingeridos por refeição (g/MS por REF e g/FDN por REF, respectivamente). Já para os grãos testados (milho ou sorgo) foram observadas diferenças significativas (P≤0,05) no tempo de alimentação, tempo de mastigação total e tempo em ócio (expressos em min/day e percentagem) e para eficiência de alimentação (g MS/h e g FDN/h). Diferenças existentes nas exigências nutricionais de cordeiros e borregos e na composição bromatológica de dietas de alto concentrado de milho ou de sorgo fazem com que ocorram alterações em algumas características do comportamento ingestivo dos animais.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the ingestive behaviour of lambs or hoggets, finished in confinement on high-concentrate diets based on maize or sorghum grain. A total of 32 animals were used, 16 lambs (milk teeth) and 16 hoggets (2 teeth), which were distributed in a completely randomised experimental design and a 2 x 2 factorial scheme (two categories x two types of grain). In the categories under evaluation (lambs and hoggets), a significant difference (P≤0.05) was found for total chewing time, idle time and other activities (expressed in min/day and as a percentage), number of meals per day, time spent per meal and for the weight of dry matter or NDF ingested per meal (g/DM per REF and g/NDF per REF respectively). For the grain under test (maize or sorghum), significant differences (P≤0.05) were seen in feeding time, total chewing time and idle time (expressed in min/day and as a percentage) and for feed efficiency (g DM/h and NDF/h). Differences in the nutritional demands of lambs and hoggets, and in the composition of high-concentrate diets of maize or sorghum, cause changes in some characteristics of the ingestive behaviour of the animals.

Esta pesquisa foi conduzida com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito in vitro e in vivo do óleo de eucalipto (Corymbia citriodora) sobre o carrapato bovino (Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus). Na experimentação in vitro, foi utilizado o grupo controle negativo e oito concentrações de óleo de eucalipto (0,5; 1; 2; 5; 10; 20; 50; 100%), em fêmeas ingurgitadas de carrapato. A eficácia de controle foi de 0; 30,5; 75,5; 91; 100; 100; 100; 100 e 100%, respectivamente. Para a experimentação in vivo, foram constituídos três grupos (controle negativo; óleo de eucalipto a 3,5% - nível estimado mediante análise de regressão, correspondendo a 95% de eficácia de controle do carrapato da pesquisa in vitro e amitraz a 0,025%), com dezoito vacas da raça Holandesa. Antes (média dos dias -3, -2,-1) e após a aplicação do produto (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21dias), foram contadas fêmeas ingurgitadas de carrapato. A eficácia de controle foi de 0; 96,4 e 69%, respectivamente, 21 dias após o tratamento. Na 1ª e na 2ª ordenha após a aplicação dos tratamentos, foram avaliadas variáveis fisiológicas e coletadas amostras de leite para avaliar as propriedades organolépticas no leite e no iogurte (controle negativo x tratamento fitoterápico). O teste de aceitação sensorial do leite e das variáveis fisiológicas avaliadas foram similares entre os tratamentos.

This research was aimed at evaluating in vitro and in vivo effects of eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora) oil on cattle ticks (Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus). Negative control group and eight concentrations of eucalyptus oil (0.5; 1; 2; 5; 10; 20; 50; 100%), were used on in vitro trials with engorged female ticks. The efficacy of control ticks was 0; 30.5; 75.5; 91; 100; 100; 100; 100 and 100%, respectively. At the in vivo trial eighteen Holstein cows were allocated to three groups (negative control, eucalyptus oil at 3.5% - level estimated by regression analysis, accounting for 95% efficacy of control ticks on in vitro trial and amitraz at 0.025%). Engorged female ticks were counted before (mean of days -3, -2, -1) and after treatment (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21 days). The efficacy control tick was 0; 96.4 and 69%, respectively, at 21 days after treatment. On the 1st and 2nd milked after treatments, physiologic variables were evaluate and milk samples were collected to evaluate organoleptic properties in milk and yoghurt (negative control x phytotherapic treatment). Similar results were found with sensorial acceptance test of milk and physiologic variables.
