RESUMO Devido às importantes funções do cálcio na fisiologia vegetal, a suplementação deste nutriente pode ser uma estratégia viável para aumentar a tolerância das plantas à salinidade. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as trocas gasosas e o crescimento de cultivares de rúcula de folhas largas cultivadas em fibra de coco submetidas ao estresse salino. ABSTRACT Potassium is a nutrient with the potential to increase plant tolerance to salt stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of kale subjected to salt stress and potassium concentrations in a protected environment. RESUMO O manejo dos níveis de condutividade elétrica é um dos fundamentos necessários para se obter maior produção e melhor qualidade de hortaliças. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva na cultura da couve-rábano cultivada em sistema semi-hidropônico. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos associados à condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (1,31; 1,71; 2,37; 2,98 e 3,75 dS m-1) e quatro repetições. ABSTRACT Managing electrical conductivity levels is one of the fundamentals required to obtain greater production and better quality of vegetables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution on the kohlrabi crop cultivated in semi-hydroponic system. A randomized block design was used with five treatments associated with the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (1.31, 1.71, 2.37, 2.98, and 3.75 dS m-1) and four replications. RESUMO O pak choi é uma hortaliça folhosa rica bioativos importantes para a saúde humana. Por ser cultivado predominantemente nos continentes europeu e asiático, existem poucas informações sobre esta hortaliça na literatura brasileira. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade do pak choi cultivado em sistemas hidropônicos utilizando soluções nutritivas de diferentes valores de condutividade elétrica. Para isto, o experimento foi instalado seguindo o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 × 5, sendo dois sistemas hidropônicos (NFT e Semi-hidropônico) e cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica (1,0; 2,0; 3,0; 4,0 e 5,0 dS m-1). ABSTRACT Pak choi is a leafy vegetable rich in important bioactives for human health. As this vegetable is cultivated predominantly in Europe and Asia, there is little information about it in the Brazilian literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of pak choi cultivated in hydroponic systems using nutrient solutions of different electrical conductivities. An experiment was set up following a randomized block design, in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme, with two hydroponic systems (NFT and Semi-hydroponic) and five levels of electrical conductivity (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 dS m-1). RESUMO A alface é uma hortaliça folhosa sensível à salinidade, e em condições de estresse salino apresenta crescimento reduzido e desequilíbrio nutricional, principalmente na absorção de cálcio. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do enriquecimento da solução nutritiva com nitrato de cálcio em soluções preparadas com água salina na cultura da alface. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. ABSTRACT Lettuce is a leafy vegetable sensitive to salinity, and under saline stress conditions it presents nutritional imbalance, mainly in calcium absorption. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of enriching the nutrient solution with calcium nitrate in solutions prepared with saline water in the lettuce crop. A completely randomized design was used, with five treatments and four replicates. RESUMO Adequada nutrição potássica e cálcica é uma estratégia para reduzir o estresse salino sobre o tomateiro, pois reduz o desbalanço nutricional nas plantas. Com o objetivo de avaliar a produção do tomate utilizando irrigação com águas salinas, e fertigação com diferentes proporções potássio-cálcio, realizou-se um experimento em ambiente protegido em Mossoró, RN. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 5 x 4, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram em combinações de quatro condutividade elétricas da solução nutritiva (ECns) (1,75; 3,25; 4,75 e 6,25 dS m-1) com cinco proporções iônicas (m/m) de potássio e cálcio (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). As variáveis resposta foram: número de frutos, peso médio de fruto, produção de frutos por planta e produção relativa. Foi possível identificar resultados de produção satisfatórios quando se usa uma maior salinidade. O uso de fertigação com baixas proporções K+/Ca2+ potencializa o efeito da salinidade sobre a cultura do tomateiro.

ABSTRACT Adequate potassium and calcium nutrition is a strategy to reduce salt stress on tomatoes, as it reduces nutritional imbalance in plants. With the objective of evaluating tomato production using irrigation with saline waters and fertigation with different potassium-calcium proportions, an experiment was carried out in a protected environment in Mossoró, RN, Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of the combination of four electrical conductivity of nutrient solution (ECns) (1.75; 3.25; 4.75; and 6.25 dS m-1) combined with five ionic proportions (m/m) of potassium and calcium (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). The response variables were: number of fruits, mean fruit weight, fruit production per plant and relative yield. It was possible to identify satisfactory results of production when higher salinity was used. Fertigation with low K+/Ca2+ proportions intensifies the effect of salinity on tomato crop.

RESUMO O cultivo em substrato vem ganhando interesse dos produtores de hortaliças, entretanto ainda são recentes as informações técnicas para muitas culturas, a exemplo do maxixeiro, especialmente quanto à solução nutritiva. Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho de três cultivares de maxixeiro (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá e Liso Gibão) cultivadas em fibra de coco e fertigadas com soluções nutritivas de diferentes concentrações de nutrientes (50, 75, 100 e 125% da recomendação para o meloeiro), utilizando o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 × 4, com quatro repetições e parcelas constituídas por três plantas. Avaliaram-se variáveis de crescimento e produtividade. De forma geral, a cv. Liso de Calcutá produziu frutos mais pesados (35,69 g fruto-1), contudo a cv. Liso Gibão produziu em média 21,6 frutos planta-1 apresentando-se mais produtiva (542,19 g planta-1). As cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá são menos exigentes em nutrientes. Para obter o maior rendimento de frutos do maxixeiro cultivado em fibra de coco devem-se realizar as fertigações utilizando soluções nutritivas com 50% da concentração de nutrientes para as cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá, enquanto para a cv. Liso Gibão recomenda-se utilizar solução nutritiva com 75% da concentração de nutrientes recomendada para o cultivo do meloeiro.

ABSTRACT Substrate cultivation has been gaining interest from vegetable producers, however technical information for many crops is still recent, such as the gherkin, especially regarding the nutrient solution. This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the performance of three gherkin cultivars (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá and Liso Gibão) grown in coconut fiber and fertigated with nutrient solutions of different concentrations (50, 75, 100 and 125% of the recommendation for melon), using a randomized block design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four repetitions and plots composed of three plants. Growth and production variables were evaluated. In general, cv. Liso de Calcutá produced heavier fruits (35.69 g fruit-1), however cv. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido objetivando avaliar o efeito da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva sobre a qualidade dos frutos em cultivares de maxixeiro. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 4 x 4, com quatro repetições, sendo quatro cultivares de maxixe (Cucumis anguria) (‘Do Norte’, ‘163’, ‘Liso de Calcutá’ e ‘Liso Gibão’) fertirrigadas com soluções nutritivas apresentando diferentes condutividades elétricas (1,4; 1,9; 2,4 e 2,9 dS m-1). Os frutos foram analisados quanto as seguintes características: sólidos solúveis totais (SST), pH, condutividade elétrica do suco (CEsuco), acidez titulável (AT) e razão SST/AT. Com exceção do pH, as demais características de qualidade do fruto foram afetadas pelo cultivo do maxixeiro nas diferentes soluções nutritivas e de forma diferente para cada cultivar. Os frutos da cultivar ‘163’ apresentam menor SST, pH, CEsuco para a condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (Cesn) de 1,4 dS m-1 e relação SST/AT, mas apresentou maior AT e CEsuco para CEsn acima de 1,4 dS m-1). Considerando a relação SST/AT, as cultivares ‘Do Norte’ e ‘Liso de Calcutá’ apresentaram, de forma geral, melhor qualidade para consumo in natura. Frutos com maior razão SST/AT, foram obtidas para todas as cultivares em solução nutritiva com maior condutividade elétrica.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution on fruit quality in gherkin cultivars. A randomized complete block design was used in a 4 x 4 factorial design, with three replicates, four cultivars (Do Norte, 163, Liso de Calcutá e Liso Gibão) with four concentrations of nutrients in the nutrient solution with different electrical conductivities (1.4, 1.9, 2.4 and 2.9 dS/m). The fruits were harvested at commercial maturity, immature with intense green color and analyzed the following characteristics: soluble solids, pH, electrical conductivity of the juice (CEsuco), titratable acidity and SS/TA ratio. With the exception of pH, the other quality characteristics of the fruit were affected by the cultivation of the gherkin in the different nutrient solutions and of different form for each cultivar. The fruits of cultivar 163 showed lower SS, pH, CEsuco for CEsn of 1.4 dS/m and SS/AT ratio, but presented higher TA and CEsuco for CEsn above 1.4 dS/m). Considering the SS/TA ratio, the cultivars Do Norte and Liso Gibão presented, in general, better quality for in natura consumption. The fruits with better quality, higher SS/TA ratio, were obtained for all cultivars in nutrient solution with higher electrical conductivity.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o uso de água salina na cultura do pepineiro cultivado com substrato composto por fibra de coco e areia fina lavada (1:1) utilizando o método de divisão do sistema radicular. O experimento foi realizado com o uso do delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com oito tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram obtidos pela combinação de dois níveis de salinidade da solução nutritiva (1,65 e 6,25 dS m-1), com ou sem divisão do sistema radicular (S/S). Foram avaliadas as variáveis de crescimento e de rendimento. O uso de água com salinidade de 6,25 dS m-1 no preparo da solução nutritiva provoca redução significativa em todas as variáveis de crescimento e de produção do pepineiro. O uso do sistema de divisão das raízes com aplicação de dois tipos de água simultaneamente, aumentou a tolerância do pepineiro à salinidade.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of saline water to grow cucumbers cultivated in substrate composed of coconut fiber and washed fine sand (1:1) and submitted to split-root system. The experimental design was completely randomized, with eight treatments and four replicates. Treatments consisted of different fertigation managements, comprising two nutrient solutions of different electrical conductivities (1.65 and 6.25 dS m-1), applied in a continuous or alternated way, with splitting or not of the root system (S/S). Growth and yield variables were evaluated. The use of water with electrical conductivity of 6.25 dS m-1 to prepare the nutrient solution caused significant reduction in all variables of cucumber growth and production. Adoption of split-root system with simultaneous application of the two water types increased cucumber tolerance to salinity.

RESUMO A alface se destaca como a principal hortaliça folhosa consumida no Brasil apresentando divergência para adaptabilidade a diferentes condições ambientais, entre as quais a salinidade. O trabalho teve, como objetivo, avaliar as respostas de cultivares de alface ao uso de água salina residuária da atividade da piscicultura. O experimento foi desenvolvido sob delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 7 x 4 sendo sete cultivares (Regiane, Vera, Isabela, Elisa, Amélia, Lavínia e Angelina) e quatro níveis de salinidade (1,2; 2,2; 3,2 e 4,2 dS m-1). As características avaliadas foram: número de folhas, área foliar, diâmetro da coroa, massa fresca e seca da parte aérea. Verificou-se que a água residuária da piscicultura diluída pode ser utilizada na irrigação da alface cultivada em vasos. As cultivares Regiane e Elisa apresentaram maior emissão de folhas e área foliar e as cultivares Amélia e Angelina foram as mais produtivas em termos de biomassa. As cultivares Vera, Isabela, Amélia e Angelina se mostraram mais tolerantes à salinidade da solução de fertirrigação.

ABSTRACT Lettuce stands out as the main leafy vegetable consumed in Brazil, with divergence regarding adaptability to different environmental conditions, which include salinity. The objective of the work was to evaluate the response of lettuce cultivars to the use of saline wastewater from fish farming. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replicates, in a factorial 7 x 4, corresponding to seven cultivars (Regiane, Vera, Isabela, Elisa, Amelia, Lavinia and Angelina) and four salt concentrations (1.2, 2.2, 3.2 and 4.2 dS m-1). The evaluated characteristics were: number of leaves, leaf area, crown diameter and shoot fresh and dry matter. Diluted wastewater from fish farming can be used in the preparation of solution for fertigation of lettuce. The cultivars Regiane and Elisa had higher production of leaves and leaf area, while Amélia and Angelina were the most productive in terms of biomass. The cultivars Vera, Isabela, Amélia and Angelina were more tolerant to the salinity of the fertigation solution.

Objetivou-se avaliar a interação entre salinidade e o uso de bioestimulante sobre o crescimento inicial de pinhão-manso. O experimento foi desenvolvido nos meses de agosto a outubro de 2012, na Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, em Mossoró, RN, utilizando o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 4. Os tratamentos foram obtidos da combinação de dois níveis de sais da água de irrigação (0,5 e 5,0 dS m-1) e quatro intervalos de aplicação de bioestimulante (I1 – Ausência; I2 - 7 dias; I3 - 14 dias; I4 – 21 dias). Utilizou-se o fitorregulador comercial Stimulate® 10X, na concentração padrão de 18 mL L-1 de solução e se avaliaram as seguintes variáveis: altura, diâmetro do caule, comprimento da raiz principal, número de folhas, área foliar, massa seca de folhas, massa seca de caule, massa seca de raiz, massa seca total e razão massa seca da parte aérea/massa seca de raiz. O estresse salino provocou redução em todas as variáveis avaliadas e inibiu o efeito do bioestimulante nos intervalos utilizados. O uso de Stimulate® 10X não inibiu o efeito deletério da salinidade da água de irrigação sobre o crescimento inicial do pinhão-manso.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the interaction between salinity levels of the water and the use of biostimulant in initial growth of physic nut plants. The experiment was conducted during the period of August and October 2012, at the Federal Rural University of Semi-Arid, at Mossoró, RN, adopting a completely randomized design in a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement. The treatments consisted of the combination of two levels of salinity of irrigation water (0.5 and 5.0 dS m-1) and four intervals of application of biostimulant (I1 - Absence; I2 - 7 days; I3 - 14 days; I4 - 21 days). The commercial phytoregulator Stimulate® 10X was used, in the standard concentration of 18 mL L-1 solution. Height, stem diameter, main root length, number of leaves, leaf area, dry weight of leaf, stem and root , total dry weight and ratio of dry mass of aerial parts to dry mass of root were evaluated. Salt stress caused a reduction in all variables and inhibited the effect of the biostimulant in the used intervals. Stimulate® 10X did not inhibit the deleterious effect of salinity of irrigation water on the initial growth of physic nut plants.

Propôs-se, neste trabalho, avaliar a interação de níveis de salinidade da água de irrigação associada a doses de nitrogênio sobre a produção de frutos de berinjela. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido do Departamento de Ciências Ambientais e Tecnológicas - UFERSA. O experimento obedeceu a um delineamento de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 4 x 6, com quatro repetições e quatro níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0,5; 2, 4 e 6 dS m-1) além de seis doses de nitrogênio (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 e 30 g planta-1). Seis colheitas foram realizadas nas quais se analisaram as seguintes variáveis: número de frutos, comprimento, diâmetro e massa média de frutos e produção total de frutos por planta. Após a análise estatística dos dados verificou-se efeito negativo da salinidade sobre todas as variáveis analisadas. Doses de nitrogênio acima de 5 g planta-1 não aumentaram a produção de frutos da berinjela mas aumentaram o efeito deletério da salinidade sobre o seu rendimento. A eficiência agronômica do nitrogênio é reduzida com o aumento na dose de N e da salinidade.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the interaction of salinity of irrigation water levels associated with nitrogen doses on yield of eggplant crop. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology -UFERSA. The experiment followed a randomized block design in a 4 x 6 factorial, with four replications, with four levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.5, 2, 4 and 6 dS m-1) and six levels of nitrogen (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 g plant-1). Six measurements were conducted, in which the following variables were analysed: number of fruits, length, diameter and mean fruit weight, and total yield per plant. After statistical analysis of the data, it was verified that there was a negative effect of salinity on all variables. Nitrogen levels above 5 g plant-1 did not increase fruit yield of eggplant, and increased the deleterious effect of salinity on the yield of eggplant. The agronomic efficiency of nitrogen is reduced with increasing dose of N and salinity.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar a interação entre salinidade e o uso de bioestimulante (Stimulate®) sobre o desenvolvimento do feijão caupi. A semeadura foi feita em vasos utilizando-se, como substrato, um Argissolo Vermelho Amarelo. O experimento obedeceu a um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2 x 7. Os tratamentos se constituíram da combinação de dois níveis de sais da água de irrigação e seis formas de aplicação de bioestimulante (Ausência, Tratamento de sementes, Foliar aos 20 dias após semeadura (DAS), Foliar aos 40 DAS, Tratamentos de sementes + Foliar aos 20 DAS, Tratamento de sementes + foliar aos 40 DAS e Aplicação foliar aos 20 e 40 DAS). Foram realizadas duas avaliações não destrutivas (20 e 40 DAS) e uma destrutiva (60 DAS) e avaliados a altura, o número de folhas, a área foliar e a massa seca de folhas, de caule e da parte aérea. Todos os parâmetros fisiológicos avaliados foram afetados pela salinidade. Nas formas de aplicação adotadas o bioestimulante não proporcionou melhorias no desenvolvimento das plantas quando submetidas ao estresse salino; a salinidade inibiu o efeito benéfico do bioestimulante sobre o desenvolvimento do feijão caupi; enfim, o uso de bioestimulante não é viável em plantas cultivadas sob estresse salino.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the interaction between salinity levels of the water and the use of biostimulant (Stimulate®) in the initial development stage of cowpea plants. The sowing of seeds was done in pots, using as a substrate Alfissol and two plants per pot. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 7 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of combination of two salinity levels (0.5 and 5.0 dS m-1) with seven biostimulant application forms (without application, seed treatment, sprinkled 20 days after sowing (DAS), sprinkled 40 DAS, seed treatment + sprinkled 20 DAS, seed treatment + sprinkled 40 DAS and sprinkled 20 and 40 DAS). Two non destructive evaluations (20 and 40 DAS) and one destructive evaluation (60 DAS) were performed. Plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, and dry mater of leaves, stem and aerial parts were evaluated. All parameters were influenced by salinity. The biostimulant in the adopted forms of application did not render any improvement on plant development when submitted to saline stress. The salinity inhibited the beneficial effects of the biostimulant on the growth of the cowpea plants therefore, the use of plant growth regulator is not feasible in plants grown under salt stress.

Este trabalho foi desenvolvido em ambiente protegido objetivando avaliar o desempenho de cultivares de alface em condições de salinidade. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, e os tratamentos foram distribuídos em esquema fatorial 5 x 5, com cinco cultivares de alface (Mônica SF31, Grandes Lagos 659, Veneranda, Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella) e cinco níveis de salinidade de água (0,5; 1,5; 2,5; 3,5 e 4,5 dS m-1) e três repetições. As plantas foram colhidas aos 35 dias após o transplantio e avaliados as principais características morfofisiológicas de crescimento: número de folhas, área foliar, comprimento do caule, massa fresca e massa seca das plantas. Verificou-se efeito significativo dos fatores isolados e da interação, para todas as características de crescimento. O maior desempenho foi obtido na cultivar Folha Roxa Quatro Estações. O número de folhas, a área foliar e a fitomassa da parte aérea, foram reduzidos linearmente com o aumento da salinidade, sendo os maiores valores obtidos nas cultivares Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella.

This study was carried out in greenhouse to evaluate the performance of different cultivars of lettuce under saline conditions. The experimental design was a completely randomized in factorial scheme, with five cultivars of lettuce (Mônica SF31, Grandes Lagos 659, Veneranda, Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella) and five levels of water salinity (0.5 , 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 dS m-1) and three replications. The plants were harvested at 35 days after transplanting and the main morphophysiological growth parameters, that is, the number of leaves, leaf area, stem length, fresh weight and dry weight of plants were evaluated. Significant effect of the isolated factors and of the interaction for all parameters was found. The best performance was obtained in cultivar Folha Roxa Quatro Estações. The number of leaves, leaf area and biomass of shoots were reduced linearly with increasing salinity, with higher values in cultivars Folha Roxa Quatro Estações and Stella.
