ABSTRACT. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is the most consumed leafy vegetable in Brazil. It is cultivated using at least four distinct systems, the most common of which are conventional and hydroponic systems. These systems provide different cultivation conditions for plants, causing physiological changes that are important for commercial production, such as nutrient uptake and biomass accumulation. However, only a few studies have compared the physiological aspects of these two cultivation systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological behavior of ‘Rubinela’ lettuce plants grown in hydroponic and conventional pot systems, by comparing dry mass (DM) and fresh mass (FM) production, number of leaves (NF), stomatal density, and contents of chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanin, sugars, and starch. Plants cultivated in hydroponic systems presented significant differences in chlorophyll content, producing more biomass than plants cultivated in conventional pot systems, probably because of better nutritional conditions, primarily with respect to macronutrients, provided by the nutrient solution of the hydroponic system. The lower water availability encountered by plants cultivated in conventional pot systems influenced the increased sugar and starch concentrations, as well as the anthocyanin content, which may be a strategy to mitigate the possible damage caused by hydric stress conditions. Resumo Dentre os fatores ambientais que influenciam o crescimento vegetal, tem-se a temperatura do ar. A taxa de crescimento de uma planta pode ser determinada a partir de sua temperatura basal inferior (Tb), que corresponde à temperatura abaixo da qual a taxa de expansão foliar é desprezível ou ocorre de maneira reduzida. Este trabalho teve por objetivo determinar a Tb e a soma térmica (ST) da rúcula Rococó, durante o período compreendido entre a germinação e a colheita em sistemas de produção convencional e hidropônico. O experimento foi realizado em Florianópolis, entre abril de 2018 a março de 2020, totalizando cinco e sete safras conduzidas nos sistemas convencional e hidropônico, respectivamente. A Tb foi obtida pela média de três métodos, a saber: menor desvio padrão em dias, desenvolvimento relativo e coeficiente de regressão. Com o valor de Tb, determinou-se a soma térmica (ST), aplicando o método simplificado de graus-dia para cada uma das safras. A partir dos valores de ST determinados foi obtido uma média para estabelecer a ST da rúcula. Durante o período compreendido entre a germinação e colheita, considerando os sistemas de produção convencional e hidropônico, os valores obtidos de Tb foram respectivamente, 4,4 °C e 3,6 °C, enquanto os de ST foram 559 e 490 graus-dia acumulado.

Abstract Among the environmental factors that influence plant growth, one of them is the air temperature. The plant growth rate can be determined through its lower basal temperature (Tb), which corresponds to the temperature below which the leaf expansion rate is negligible or occurs in a reduced way. This work aimed to determine Tb and the thermal sum (ST) of the ‘Rococó’ arugula during the time period comprising germination and harvest in conventional and hydroponic production system. The experiment took place in Florianópolis, from April 2018 to March 2020, totalizing five and seven harvests in the conventional and hydroponic production system, respectively. The Tb was obtained by using the average of three methods, namely: least standard deviation in days, relative development and the regression coefficient. With the Tb value, the thermal sum (ST) was determined using the simplified degree-day method for each harvest. From the ST determined values, an average was obtained to establish the ST of the arugula. During the period comprising germination and harvest, considering the conventional and hydroponic production systems, obtained values of Tb were respectively 4,4 and 3,6 °C whereas the ST were 559 and 490 accumulated degree-day.

Abstract The use of high permittivity materials on substrates of a microstrip antenna was developed with Bismuth Niobate ceramic doped with vanadium Oxide (BiNbO4 (V2O5)) and compared with an antenna of silicon dioxide substrate (SiO2) using Ansys software HFSS and CST Studio. The ceramic antenna has -20 dB at 3.5 GHz and the silicon dioxide antenna -24.7 dB of reflection coefficient. The bandwidth values are 80 MHz for the bismuth ceramic antenna and 100 MHz for the silica antenna. The results demonstrate that the proposed BiNbO4 antenna has great advantage compared to those mentioned in terms of volume reduction, presenting results similar to those antennas with higher volume. In addition, we use copper periodic structures (EBG) in order to increase the gain in associated with the use of BiNbO4 with addition of V2O5 on the antenna substrate leading to a reduction in the total volume. Therefore, the proposed Bismuth Niobate antenna proves to be an excellent alternative for 5G technology and microwave S band (2-4 GHz) devices, highlighting the mentioned advantages.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a ofensividade de produtos controversos no Brasil, principalmente a influência da área de conhecimento. Design/metodologia/abordagem: um questionário com 11 produtos controversos foi convencionalmente respondido por uma amostra de 368 universitários das três áreas de conhecimento mais populares no Brasil (i.e., Ciências Humanas, Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde e Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas). A ofensividade de cada produto controverso foi medida e comparada entre essas áreas de conhecimento por meio de testes t. Descobertas: Produtos controversos não ofenderam facilmente os participantes, sendo armas, remédios para emagrecer e roupas íntimas femininas os mais ofensivos. Em geral, os estudantes de Ciências Humanas são os mais facilmente ofendidos, e os de Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas os menos ofendidos. Além disso, os resultados mostraram diferenças e semelhanças entre as pessoas de cada área de conhecimento. Originalidade/valor: Aprimoramento do nosso conhecimento sobre produtos controversos no Brasil, especialmente sobre a influência da área de conhecimento na ofensividade de produtos controversos.

ABSTRACT Purpose: investigate the offensiveness of controversial products in Brazil, especially the influence of the field of study. Design/methodology/approach: a questionnaire with 11 controversial products was conventionally answered by a sample of 368 college students from the three most popular fields of study in Brazil (i.e. Human Sciences, Biological and Health Sciences, and Exact and Technological Sciences). The offensiveness of each controversial product was measured and compared across those fields of study through t-tests. Findings: Controversial products did not easily offend respondents being guns, weight-loss medicine, and female underwear the most offensive ones. In general, students of Human Sciences are the most easily offended and those of Exact and Technological Sciences the least offended. In addition, results showed differences and similarities between people from each field of study. Originality/value: Improvement of our knowledge about controversial products in Brazil, especially about the influence of the field of study in the offensiveness of controversial products.

Resumen Los entornos de RV no inmersivos se constituyen en la aplicación de menor interactividad en relación con las técnicas de realidad virtual, de modo que la interacción con el entorno de realidad virtual puede ocurrir de forma común en televisores 3D (TV-3D), sin que exista una inmersión total en el entorno. Este estudio presenta cómo la exposición a la TV-3D, combinada con el registro fisiológico, puede inducir temor a las cucarachas en personas con diferentes niveles de miedo. Treinta y seis participantes, divididos en tres grupos según su nivel de miedo a las cucarachas, fueron expuestos a un entorno de realidad virtual con cucarachas, durante 4 minutos, mientras se registraba su actividad cardíaca, que fue usada como entrada para el entorno de realidad virtual. Los resultados revelaron efectos significativos en las medidas tomadas por autorreporte y en la frecuencia cardíaca de diferentes grupos temerosos a las cucarachas. Además, los participantes más temerosos son más propensos a desencadenar la aparición de cucarachas en el entorno de realidad virtual, debido a su aceleración cardíaca. Los resultados generales sugieren que nuestro entorno de RV es válido para inducir miedo a las cucarachas, con un potencial uso en el dominio terapéutico.

Abstract Non-immersive VR environments are related to the least interactive application of VR techniques, such that interaction with the VR environment can occur commonly by 3D-TV without full immersion into the environment. This study presents how 3D-TV exposure combined with physiology recording can elicit fear of cockroaches among individuals with different levels of fear. Thirty-six participants, set apart into three fear groups (low vs. moderate vs. high), were exposed to VR environment with cockroaches for 4 minutes while recording and using cardiac activity as input to the VR environment. Results revealed significant effects on self-report measures and heart rate between different fear groups. Moreover, participants with higher levels of fear were more likely to trigger cockroaches into the scenario due to their cardiac acceleration. Overall results suggest that our physiology-driven VR environment is valid for fear elicitation while having potential use in therapeutic domain.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the post-harvest quality and the final storage time of the hydroponic crisp lettuce ‘Brida’, conditioned in different types of plastic packaging and environments. The statistical design was a completely randomized 3x2 factorial design, with 3 types of packages (control (without plastic packaging), perforated plastic packaging and closed plastic packaging) and 2 types of environments refrigerated (± 5 °C) and non-refrigerated (± 23 °C). Fresh leaf weight loss, relative SPAD content, total soluble solids content (TSS), pH, total titratable acidity (TTA), chlorophyll a and b, carotenoids and final storage time were measured. There was a decrease in the parameters of fresh mass, acidity, total soluble solids, and relative content of SPAD chlorophyll in refrigerated lettuce compared to uncooled. The use of packages also influenced post-harvest quality and closed packs resulted in lower values. It is concluded that the post-harvest quality of lettuce is better when they are refrigerated and packed in sealed packages.

Abstract Aims: To evaluate whether body mass (BM) and body composition may influence mountain bike cycling performance. Methods: Forty male amateur mountain bikers attended the laboratory on two non-consecutive days. At the first visit, anthropometric measures (height, BM, body fat [BF], fat-free mass [FFM] and body mass index [BMI]) and familiarization to incremental cycling test were performed. On the second visit, cyclists performed again the incremental cycling test to measure peak power output (PPO), peak power output relative to BM (PPO-BM), and time to exhaustion (TE), which were posteriorly correlated with BM and anthropometric measures. Results: A low and moderate significant correlation were observed between TE and BM (p<0.01; r=0.40) and FFM (p<0.01; r=0.56). Moderate significant correlation was found between PPO and BM (p<0.01; r=0.45), BMI (p=0.03; r=0.35) and strong with FFM (p<0.01; r=0.59). Also, PPO-BM significantly correlated with BM (p=0.04; r=-0.31), BMI (p=0.02; r=-0.35) and BF (p<0.01; r=-0.55). No other significant correlations were observed. Conclusion: Considering PPO-BM as mainly performance variable, BM and BF can be a determining factor in mountain biking performance but FFM did not.

Resumo Neste artigo, os autores analisam as transformações ocorridas nas formas de acesso à terra por diferentes segmentos da sociedade nacional no norte do estado brasileiro de Mato Grosso do Sul. A discussão é realizada em torno do caso da comunidade quilombola Família Bispo, localizada no município de Sonora, região historicamente vinculada a uma área fronteiriça entre os territórios dos povos indígenas Bororo e Kayapó. O caso analisado é emblemático porque abrange indígenas, quilombolas e migrantes de outros estados da federação, todos envolvidos por relações de alianças e disputas, as quais têm como foco principal a posse e a propriedade da terra. A transformação do espaço, com anuência e participação de agentes do Estado nacional, resultou, segundo a expressão de um interlocutor, na expropriação dos territórios indígenas e quilombolas, pois o ‘largão’ da terra ‘voluta’ [devoluta] foi transformado em terra vendida, propriedade privada, regularizada com contratos e escrituras cartoriais.

Abstract In this article the authors analyze transformations in the forms of land access among different segments of society in the north of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The discussion focuses on the Família Bispo quilombola community in the municipality of Sonora, a region historically linked to a border area between the Bororo and Kayapó indigenous peoples. The case analyzed is emblematic because it includes indigenous people, quilombolas, and migrants from other Brazilian states, all involved in alliances and disputes mainly surrounding land tenure and ownership. The transformation of space with the consent and participation of government agents, resulted (as one interlocutor stated) in the expropriation of indigenous and quilombola territories, because the vast public lands were transformed into land that was sold and privately owned, regularized through contracts and notary deeds.

RESUMO: As doenças transmitidas por vetores são atualmente um dos maiores problemas de saúde pública. Os cães, sendo os animais de companhia mais próximos dos seres humanos, são considerados os principais reservatórios de algumas dessas doenças no ambiente urbano, e o estudo de seu comportamento em cães ajuda a entender a doença como um todo na saúde humana. Diagnósticos sorológicos e moleculares de Babesia vogeli, Rangelia vitalli, Leishmania infantum e outros tripanossomatídeos, em um abrigo para cães localizado em um fragmento da Mata Atlântica próximo à Barragem Billings, São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brasil. Foram realizadas sorologias e diagnósticos moleculares, no ensaio de PCR foram utilizados marcadores moleculares de oligonucleotídeos específicos para alguns protozoários de importância na saúde animal, como Babesia vogeli, Rangelia vitalli, Leishmania infantum e outros tripanossomatídeos. Nossos resultados de diagnóstico molecular mostraram uma alta prevalência de 20,9% (17/81) de Babesia vogeli. Nenhum outro protozoário foi detectado em nenhum dos testes. A determinação da prevalência das principais doenças transmitidas por vetores é essencial para estabelecer medidas preventivas e de controle de doenças zoonóticas em animais mantidos em abrigos. Essas medidas devem ser propostas para minimizar o impacto de doenças transmitidas por vetores na saúde animal.

ABSTRACT: Vector-borne diseases are currently one of the biggest public health concerns worldwide. Dogs, being the closest companion animals to humans, are considered the main reservoir of some of these diseases in the urban environment. Therefore, the study of the disease behavior in dogs can help to understand the disease affecting human health. Serological and molecular diagnoses of Babesia vogeli, Rangelia vitalli, Leishmania infantum, and other trypanosomatids, were performed by immunochromatographic and PCR assays, respectively, on dogs in a dog shelter located in an Atlantic Forest fragment near the Billings Dam, São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo-Brazil. Our molecular diagnostic results showed a high prevalence of Babesia vogeli, at 20.9% (17/81). No other protozoan was detected in any of the tests. Determining the prevalence of major vector-borne diseases is essential to establish preventive and control measures for zoonotic diseases in animals kept in shelters, in order to minimize the impact of vector-borne diseases on animal health.

Resumo Sítios arqueológicos indígenas, compostos por montículos de terra e transformações topográficas adjacentes, são conhecidos em praticamente toda a América do Sul. Os processos construtivos desses lugares e sua funcionalidade são objetos de investigação na arqueologia desde o século XIX. Os modelos interpretativos sugerem diversas funções aos montículos: locais de moradia temporária e permanente, cemitérios, praças centrais de assentamentos mais amplos, espaços com solo fértil para produção de alimentos vegetais, demarcadores territoriais e lugares de memória, dentre outras possibilidades. No intuito de contribuir para a discussão, neste trabalho são apresentados dados etnoarqueológicos registrados no contexto da ocupação tradicional da Terra Indígena Baía dos Guató, localizada na região do Pantanal, estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. A observação direta sobre antigos e recentes assentamentos, associada às narrativas de indígenas sobre os lugares, permitiu compreender o significado social e funcional das estruturas arqueológicas.

Abstract Indigenous archaeological sites composed of earth-mounds and surrounding earth-works are known throughout South America. The building processes of these places and their functionality have been the object of archaeological investigation since the 19th century. The available interpretative models suggest several uses for the mounds: temporary and permanent dwelling places, cemeteries, central plazas of larger settlements, spaces with fertile soil for the production of vegetal foods, territorial landmarks and places of memory, among other possibilities. In order to contribute to the discussion, this article presents ethnoarchaeological data registered in the context of the traditional occupation of the Indigenous Land of the Baía dos Guató, located in the Pantanal wetland, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Direct observation of ancient and recent settlements, alongside indigenous narratives about places, allow us to understand the social and functional meaning of archaeological structures.

Resumen Los sitios arqueológicos indígenas, compuestos por montículos de tierra y transformaciones topográficas adyacentes, son conocidos en prácticamente toda América del Sur. Los procesos de construcción de estos lugares y su funcionalidad han sido objeto de investigación en arqueología desde el siglo XIX. Los modelos interpretativos sugieren varias funciones para los montículos: lugares de vivienda temporal y permanente, cementerios, plazas centrales de asentamientos más grandes, espacios con tierra fértil para la producción de alimentos vegetales, demarcaciones territoriales y lugares de memoria, entre otras posibilidades. Para contribuir con la discusión, este trabajo presenta datos etnoarqueológicos registrados en el contexto de la ocupación tradicional de la Tierra Indígena Baía dos Guató, ubicada en la región del Pantanal, en el estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. La observación directa de los antiguos y recientes asentamientos, asociada con las narraciones de los indígenas sobre los lugares, permitió comprender el significado social y funcional de las estructuras arqueológicas.

Resumo O curso médio do rio Tocantins está localizado na porção leste da região da “Amazônia Legal” do Brasil, e o rio Dantas é um dos seus afluentes. Dentre os componentes da biota aquática, os microparasitos eucarióticos estabelecem relações diretas com várias espécies de peixes e possuem potencial zoonótico ainda pouco conhecido. Os mixozoários destacam-se entre esses parasitos causando mixosporidiose, doença que dá origem a altas taxas de mortalidade em todo o mundo. O gênero Myxobolus é responsável pelo maior número de espécies descritas de mixozoários. Trinta espécimes de Astyanax aff. bimaculatus capturados no rio Dantas foram examinados. A prevalência de cistos com esporos morfologicamente compatíveis com mixozoários do gênero Myxobolus nos filamentos arqueados e branquiais desses espécimes foi de 20%.

Abstract The middle course of the Tocantins river is located in the eastern portion of the “Legal Amazon” region of Brazil and the Dantas river is one of its tributaries. Among the components of the aquatic biota, eukaryote microparasites establish direct relationships with several species of fish and have zoonotic potential that is still little known. Myxozoans stand out among these parasites: they cause myxosporidiosis, a disease that gives rise to high mortality rates worldwide. The genus Myxobolus accounts for the largest number of species that have been described. Thirty specimens of Astyanax aff. bimaculatus that had been caught in the Dantas river were examined. The prevalence of cysts with spores morphologically compatible with myxozoans of the genus Myxobolus in the arcuate and gill filaments of these specimens was 20%.

Resumo A endometriose é caracterizada pela presença de tecido endometrial fora do útero. Quando os implantes endometriais penetram mais de 5 mm no peritônio, são definidos como endometriose pélvica profunda. O exame padrão ouro para estabelecer seu diagnóstico é a laparoscopia, mas a ultrassonografia transvaginal pode contribuir na detecção da doença, por ser um exame acessível, de menor custo, não invasivo e por possibilitar o planejamento pré-operatório nos casos em que é necessário o tratamento cirúrgico. Entretanto, este método como primeiro exame a ser solicitado na suspeita de endometriose precisa ser mais considerado na prática clínica. Este ensaio descreve os achados da endometriose profunda na ultrassonografia transvaginal, com o intuito de difundir a importância da técnica para o diagnóstico dessa doença.

Abstract Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. When endometrial implants penetrate more than 5 mm into the peritoneum, the condition is referred to as deep pelvic endometriosis. Although laparoscopy is the gold standard test to establish a diagnosis of deep endometriosis, transvaginal ultrasound represents an alternative that can contribute to detection of the disease, because it is an accessible, low-cost, noninvasive examination that allows preoperative planning in cases requiring surgical treatment. However, in clinical practice, transvaginal ultrasound is still not widely used as the first-line examination in suspected cases of endometriosis. This essay describes the findings of deep endometriosis on transvaginal ultrasound, in order to disseminate knowledge of the utility of the technique for the diagnosis of this disease.

ABSTRACT Objective This study investigated the familial aggregation and heritability of markers of metabolic risk, physical activity, and physical fitness in nuclear families from Muzambinho (Minas Gerais, Brazil). Subjects and methods The study included members of 139 families, comprising 97 fathers (aged 40 ± 7 years), 129 mothers (35 ± 6 years), 136 sons (12 ± 4 years), and 121 daughters (12 ± 5 years). Evaluated markers included (A) body mass index, waist circumference, glycemia, and cholesterolemia, as metabolic risk markers; (B) total weekly volume of physical activity, as a physical activity marker; and (C) relative muscle strength, as a physical fitness marker. Correlations between family members and heritability (h2) were estimated using the software S.A.G.E. Results Significant familial correlations were obtained between parents-offspring for glycemia and cholesterolemia (both ρ = 0.21, p < 0.05) and relative muscle strength (ρ = 0.23, p < 0.05), and between siblings for waist circumference, glycemia, total weekly volume of physical activity, and relative muscle strength (ρ variation 0.25 to 0.36, p < 0.05). Heritability values were significant for almost all variables (h2 variations: 20% to 57% for metabolic risk markers, 22% for the total weekly volume of physical activity, and 50% for relative muscle strength), except for waist circumference (h2 = 15%, p = 0.059). Conclusion The presence of significant correlations between family members and/or significant heritability strengthens the possible genetic and/or common familial environment influence on metabolic risk markers, total weekly volume of physical activity, and relative muscle strength.

Resumo A acirrada competição internacional entre destinos turísticos força seus gestores a oferecer a seus públicos propostas de valor únicas, buscando melhorar suas imagens e destacando seus diferenciais e experiências turísticas exclusivas. Nesse processo, a adequada gestão e comunicação de uma marca-país se torna ainda mais relevante. O número cada vez maior de pessoas que utilizam a internet para planejar suas viagens gera nos gestores de marcas-país a preocupação de construir uma sólida atuação digital para suas marcas. Diante desse cenário, este artigo buscou compreender as práticas de gestão e comunicação desenvolvidas para a Marca Brasil e sua forma de atuação na internet. Para tal, foi feita uma pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória que realizou entrevis-tas em profundidade conduzidas de forma semiestruturada com os profissionais da Embratur responsáveis pela gestão da Marca Brasil e sua atuação online. Os resultados deste artigo descrevem os objetivos centrais da marca, suas aplicações e atividades desenvolvidas para atingi-los, dando ênfase às suas atuações através do website Visit Brasil e suas páginas em mídias sociais.

Abstract The fierce international competition among tourist destinations forces their managers to offer their public unique value propositions, seeking to improve their images and highlighting their unique tourist experiences and advantages. In this process, the proper management and communication of a country brand becomes even more relevant. The growing number of people who use the Internet to plan their trips causes country brand managers to be concerned with building a solid digital performance for their brands. In this context, this article sought to understand the management and communication practices developed for the Marca Brasil (Brazil Brand) and its activities on the Internet. To this end, a qualitative and exploratory research was carried out by conducting in-depth, semi-structured interviews with Embratur professionals responsible for the management of the Brazil Brand and its online performance. The results of this article describe the core objectives of the brand, its applications, and the activities developed to achieve them, emphasizing their actions through the Visit Brazil website and its social media channels.

Resumen La feroz disputa internacional entre los destinos turísticos obliga a sus gerentes a ofrecer a su público propuestas de valor únicas, tratando de mejorar su imagen y destacando sus diferencias y experiencias turísticas exclusivas. En este processo, la correcta administración y comunicación de una marca país és aún más importante. El número cada vez mayor de personas que utilizan la internet para planear viajes preocupa los gerentes de la marca país a construir una sólida presencia digital para sus marcas. En ese panorama, este estudio anheló entender las actividades de administración y comunicación aplicadas a la Marca Brasil y su presencia digital. Para eso, fue utilizado el método qualitativo y exploratorio que realizó una entrevista con los gerentes de la Marca Brasil y sus actividades online. Los resultados de este estudio describen los objetivos principales de la marca, sus aplicaciones y las actividades realizadas para alcanzarlos, enfatizando sus actividades por medio del website Visit Brasil y sus páginas en medios sociales.

Resumo Introdução: A avaliação do resultado cirúrgico medido pela satisfação do paciente ou qualidade de vida é muito importante, especialmente na cirurgia plástica, uma especialidade na qual há um crescente interesse na avaliação de resultados por auto‐relato. Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar a tradução, a adaptação transcultural e a validação do questionário "The Utrecht questionnaire for outcome assessment in aesthetic rhinoplasty", do inglês para português. Método: Estudo retrospectivo envolvendo 50 pacientes submetidos a rinoplastia comparando o período pré‐operatório com a situação atual (mínimo de 6 meses e máximo de 24 meses de pós‐operatório). A análise estatística foi realizada para avaliar a consistência interna, confiabilidade teste‐reteste, validade e capacidade de resposta. Resultados: Nenhum paciente recebeu pontuação negativa na escala visual analógica ao comparar a aparência pré‐ e pós‐operatória. A melhora pós‐operatória na escala visual analógica revelou uma curva gaussiana de distribuição normal, com melhora média de 4,44 pontos. A confiabilidade teste‐reteste mostrou uma correlação positiva entre a resposta pós‐operatória e o mesmo questionário repetido noventa e seis horas depois. A consistência interna foi alta (valor do alfa de Cronbach: pré‐operatório = 0,88; pós‐operatório = 0,86). Os autores observaram uma melhora significante nas respostas para todas as questões individuais na fase pós‐operatória em comparação com a situação pré‐operatória (teste t de Student – p < 0,05). Conclusão: A versão em português do "The Utrecht questionnaire for outcome assessment in aesthetic rhinoplasty" é um instrumento válido para avaliar os resultados do paciente após a cirurgia de rinoplastia.

Abstract Introduction: The evaluation of surgical outcomes measured by patient satisfaction or quality of life is very important, especially in plastic surgery. There is increasing interest in self-reporting outcomes evaluation in plastic surgery. Objective: The aim of this study was to perform the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of "The Utrecht questionnaire for outcome assessment in aesthetic rhinoplasty" from English to Portuguese. Methods: Retrospective study involving 50 patients undergoing to rhinoplasty comparing the preoperative period with the current postoperative situation (minimum 6 months and maximum 24 months postoperatively). Statistical analysis was performed to assess internal consistency, test-retest reliability, validity and responsiveness. Results: No patients received a negative score on the visual analogue scale comparing preoperative and postoperative appearance. The postoperative improvement on the visual analogue scale revealed a Gaussian curve of normal distribution with a mean improvement of 4.44 points. The test-retest reliability showed a positive correlation between the postoperative response and the same questionnaire repeated ninety-six hours later. The internal consistency was high (Cronbach's alpha value: Preoperative = 0.88; Postoperative = 0.86). The authors observed a significant improvement in response for all individual questions in the postoperative phase as compared with preoperative situation (t-student test - p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Portuguese version of "The Utrecht questionnaire for outcome assessment in aesthetic rhinoplasty" is a valid instrument to assess patients' outcomes following rhinoplasty surgery.
