RESUMO Devido às importantes funções do cálcio na fisiologia vegetal, a suplementação deste nutriente pode ser uma estratégia viável para aumentar a tolerância das plantas à salinidade. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as trocas gasosas e o crescimento de cultivares de rúcula de folhas largas cultivadas em fibra de coco submetidas ao estresse salino. ABSTRACT Potassium is a nutrient with the potential to increase plant tolerance to salt stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of kale subjected to salt stress and potassium concentrations in a protected environment. ABSTRACT Alternative techniques for cultivation without soil are widespread; however, studies comparing hydroponic systems still need to be studied, mainly in semi-arid regions. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of hydroponic systems on the yield and quality of lettuce cultivars subjected to different electrical conductivities of the nutrient solution. RESUMO O manejo dos níveis de condutividade elétrica é um dos fundamentos necessários para se obter maior produção e melhor qualidade de hortaliças. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva na cultura da couve-rábano cultivada em sistema semi-hidropônico. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos associados à condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (1,31; 1,71; 2,37; 2,98 e 3,75 dS m-1) e quatro repetições. As plantas foram colhidas 78 dias após o transplante e avaliadas quanto ao crescimento, produção e qualidade pós-colheita. ABSTRACT Managing electrical conductivity levels is one of the fundamentals required to obtain greater production and better quality of vegetables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution on the kohlrabi crop cultivated in semi-hydroponic system. A randomized block design was used with five treatments associated with the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (1.31, 1.71, 2.37, 2.98, and 3.75 dS m-1) and four replications. The plants were harvested 78 days after transplanting and evaluated for growth, production, and postharvest quality. Nutrient solution with electrical conductivity (EC) of 1.31 dS m-1 promotes greater production of purple kohlrabi. RESUMO O pak choi é uma hortaliça folhosa rica bioativos importantes para a saúde humana. Por ser cultivado predominantemente nos continentes europeu e asiático, existem poucas informações sobre esta hortaliça na literatura brasileira. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade do pak choi cultivado em sistemas hidropônicos utilizando soluções nutritivas de diferentes valores de condutividade elétrica. Para isto, o experimento foi instalado seguindo o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 × 5, sendo dois sistemas hidropônicos (NFT e Semi-hidropônico) e cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica (1,0; 2,0; 3,0; 4,0 e 5,0 dS m-1). ABSTRACT Pak choi is a leafy vegetable rich in important bioactives for human health. As this vegetable is cultivated predominantly in Europe and Asia, there is little information about it in the Brazilian literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of pak choi cultivated in hydroponic systems using nutrient solutions of different electrical conductivities. An experiment was set up following a randomized block design, in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme, with two hydroponic systems (NFT and Semi-hydroponic) and five levels of electrical conductivity (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 dS m-1). RESUMO A alface é uma hortaliça folhosa sensível à salinidade, e em condições de estresse salino apresenta crescimento reduzido e desequilíbrio nutricional, principalmente na absorção de cálcio. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do enriquecimento da solução nutritiva com nitrato de cálcio em soluções preparadas com água salina na cultura da alface. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram representados por cinco soluções nutritivas [S1 - solução nutritiva padrão (SNP); S2 - SNP + NaCl (3,5 dS m-1); S3 - S2 + Ca(NO3)2 (50% = 6,86 mmol L-1); S4 - S2 + Ca(NO3)2 (100% = 9,15 mmol L-1); S5 - S2 + Ca (NO3)2 (150% = 11,43 mmol L-1)] em alface do grupo crespa, cv. Elba. Após o preparo das soluções nutritivas, as soluções apresentaram as seguintes condutividades elétricas: 1,8 (S1); 4,8 (S2); 5,4 (S3); 6,0 (S4); 6,6 (S5) dS m-1. Foram avaliadas variáveis de crescimento, nutrição e qualidade pós-colheita da alface. Com exceção do diâmetro do caule, número de folhas totais, pH da planta e teor de vitamina C, as demais variáveis foram afetadas pela adição extra de Ca(NO3)2 nas soluções nutritivas. A alface cv. ABSTRACT Lettuce is a leafy vegetable sensitive to salinity, and under saline stress conditions it presents nutritional imbalance, mainly in calcium absorption. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of enriching the nutrient solution with calcium nitrate in solutions prepared with saline water in the lettuce crop. A completely randomized design was used, with five treatments and four replicates. RESUMO O manejo nutricional pode ser uma estratégia eficiente para mitigar os efeitos da salinidade na produção e qualidade de frutos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção e qualidade de frutos de mini melancia, cultivar Sugar Baby, cultivado em ambiente protegido, sob estresse salino e relações K+/Ca2+. O estudo foi realizado em casa de vegetação, em delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema 1 + 5, resultando em seis tratamentos e quatro repetições. Foram aplicadas seis soluções nutritivas, uma utilizando água de baixa salinidade (0,5 dS m-1) e solução nutritiva padrão (S1, tratamento controle) e as demais utilizando água salinizada com NaCl, a 5,0 dS m-1 (S2) e adição extra de K (S3 = 50% e S4 = 100%) e Ca (S5 = 50% e S6 = 100%). ABSTRACT Nutritional management can be an efficient strategy to mitigate the effects of salinity on fruit production and quality. This study aimed to evaluate the production and quality of fruits of mini watermelon crop, Sugar Baby cultivar, grown in a protected environment, under salt stress and K+/Ca2+ ratios. The study was carried out in a greenhouse, using a randomized block design, 1 + 5 scheme, resulting in six treatments and four replications. RESUMO A suplementação mineral adequada pode ser uma estratégia para viabilizar o uso de água salobra na produção de hortaliças. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito das concentrações de nitrato de cálcio nas trocas gasosas foliares e na produção de couve (Brassica oleracea L.) fertigada com soluções nutritivas salinizadas. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados (4 + 1), com quatro repetições. Foram utilizadas cinco soluções nutritivas, sendo quatro foram preparadas em água salobra (6,0 dS m-1) contendo quatro concentrações de Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1.125, 1.500 e 1.875 mg L-1)] e um tratamento controle (solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 de Ca(NO3)2) . As seguintes análises foram realizadas: trocas gasosas foliares, área foliar e produção de matéria fresca. A solução nutritiva padrão forneceu maiores valores para taxa fotossintética (13,06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), condutância estomática (0,19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiração (2,76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), eficiência instantânea do uso da água (4,73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), eficiência instantânea de carboxilação (0,053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), área foliar (2,78 cm2 por planta) e produtividade de matéria fresca folhas (2,64 kg por planta).O Ca(NO3)2 não anulou, mas atenuou o efeito deletério do estresse salino nas trocas gasosas foliares, com exceção da produção da couve (massa fresca de folhas).

ABSTRACT Adequate mineral supplementation can be a strategy to enable the use of brackish water in the production of vegetables. This study intended to evaluate the effect of calcium nitrate concentrations on leaf gas exchanges and yield of kale (Brassica oleracea L) fertigated with salinized nutrient solutions. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block experimental design (4 + 1), with four replicates. Four nutrient solutions prepared in brackish water (6.0 dS m-1) containing four concentrations of Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1,125, 1,500, and 1,875 mg L-1)] and a control treatment (standard nutrient solution using low-salinity water, 0.5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 of Ca(NO3)2) were used in the study. The following analyses were performed: leaf gas exchanges, leaf area, and fresh matter yield. The standard nutrient solution promoted higher values for photosynthetic rate (13.06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), stomatal conductance (0.19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiration (2.76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), instantaneous water use efficiency (4.73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (0.053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), leaf area (2.78 cm2 per plant), and leaf fresh matter yield (2.64 kg per plant). The Ca(NO3)2 not nullified but mitigated the deleterious effect of salt stress on leaf gas exchanges, except for kale yield (leaf fresh matter).

RESUMO Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a eficiência de uso de fósforo em genótipos de meloeiro cultivados em sistema hidropônico. Foram avaliados 10 genótipos de meloeiro em soluções nutritivas com e sem restrição de fósforo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados no esquema fatorial 10 × 2, com cinco repetições. Foram avaliados os seguintes caracteres: número de folhas, diâmetro do caule, comprimento do ramo principal, comprimento do sistema radicular, volume do sistema radicular, clorofila, razão do teor de fósforo na raiz e parte aérea, fósforo total, razão da matéria seca na raiz e parte aérea, matéria seca total e eficiências de uso, de aquisição e de utilização interna de fósforo. Verificou-se a existência de variabilidade entre os genótipos para todos os caracteres avaliados, exceto para clorofila. Os genótipos A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52 e Trinity foram classificados como eficientes e responsivos na solução com restrição de fósforo, sendo promissores para estudos em melhoramento genético.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of phosphorus use with melon genotypes cultivated in a hydroponic system. Ten melon genotypes were evaluated in solutions with and without phosphorus restriction. A randomized block design in a 10 × 2 factorial scheme was used, with five replicates. The following characteristics were evaluated: leaf number, stem diameter, main branch length, root system length, root system volume, chlorophyll, root and shoot phosphorus concentration ratio, total phosphorus, root and shoot dry matter ratio, total dry matter, and phosphorus use, acquisition, and internal utilization efficiencies. The existence of variability among genotypes was verified for all evaluated characteristics, except for chlorophyll. Genotypes A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52, and Trinity were classified as efficient and responsive in the phosphorus-restricted solution and are promising for breeding studies.

RESUMO A soja destaca-se entre as culturas com maior aplicação da transgenia, principalmente para tolerância a herbicidas, pragas e doenças, mas são escassos estudos sobre estresse salino em plantas geneticamente modificadas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a tolerância ao estresse salino de genótipos de soja, tradicionais e geneticamente modificadas, nas fases de germinação e plântulas. Para tanto, foram utilizadas sementes de 13 genótipos de soja, sendo cinco tradicionais (BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba e FTR-4389) e oito transgênicas (BRS Sambaíba RR, BRS-333-RR, BRS-9820-RR, PAS-13565-74-RR, PAS-11711-007-RR, BRS-918-IPRO, AS-3810-IPRO e M-8210-IPRO), submetidas a quatro potenciais osmóticos (0.0; -0.1; -0.2 e -0.3 MPa). A qualidade das sementes foi avaliada a partir das seguintes variáveis: porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento da parte aérea, comprimento de raiz, acúmulo de massa seca e índice de tolerância à salinidade. Todas as variáveis foram afetadas pelo estresse salino. Os genótipos convencionais BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba, bem como do grupo RR PAS-13565-74-RR e PAS-11711-007-RR são tolerantes à salinidade. Os genótipos FTR-4389 (convencional) BRS Sambaíba RR (RR) são menos tolerantes ao estresse salino. Todos os genótipos do grupo IPRO são moderadamente tolerantes ao estresse salino.

ABSTRACT Soybean stands out among the crops with the greatest application of transgenics, mainly for tolerance to herbicides, pests, and diseases; however, studies on salt stress in genetically modified plants are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of both traditional and genetically modified soybean genotypes to saline stress during the germination and seedling phases. Seeds of 13 soybean genotypes were selected (five traditional (BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba, and FTR-4389) and eight transgenic (BRS Sambaíba RR, BRS-333-RR, BRS-9820- RR, PAS-13565-74-RR, PAS-11711-007-RR, BRS-918-IPRO, AS-3810-IPRO, and M-8210-IPRO)), subjected to four osmotic potentials (0.0, 0.1, -0.2, and -0.3 MPa). The seed quality was evaluated using the following variables: the germination percentage, germination speed index, shoot length, root length, dry mass accumulation, and salinity tolerance index. All variables were found to be affected by salt stress. However, the conventional genotypes, BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, and BRS Sambaíba, and the RR group PAS-13565-74-RR, and PAS-11711-007-RR were tolerant to salinity, whereas the genotypes FTR-4389 (conventional) and BRS Sambaíba RR (RR) were less tolerant to salt stress, and all genotypes in the IPRO group were moderately tolerant to salt stress.

RESUMO O fósforo tem importância fundamental para o suprimento energético necessário para o metabolismo vegetal, mas ainda é pouco estudado em culturas importantes, como a mandioca. Objetivou-se avaliar o acúmulo e a eficiência do uso do fósforo em diferentes cultivares de mandioca no semiárido. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos em duas safras agrícolas, 2018/2019 e 2019/2020, em Mossoró-RN. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, em parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Nas parcelas, foram aplicadas no sulco de cultivo cinco doses de fósforo (P) (0; 60; 120; 180 e 240 kg ha-1 de P2O5), e, nas subparcelas quatro cultivares de mandioca (Água Morna, BRS Gema de Ovo, Recife e Venâncio). As cultivares Água Morna e Recife exportam mais fósforo através de suas raízes. As cultivares Venâncio e Água Morna apresentam maior eficiência agronômica quando adubadas com 60 kg ha-1 de P2O5. A eficiência aparente de recuperação do P apresentou a seguinte ordem: ‘BRS Gema de Ovo’ > ‘Água Morna’ > ‘Venâncio’ > ‘Recife’, com maiores índices na dose de 60 kg ha-1 de P2O5.

ABSTRACT Phosphorus is of fundamental importance for the energy supply necessary for plant metabolism, but it is still understudied for important agricultural crops such as cassava. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accumulation and efficiency of phosphorus use in different cassava cultivars in the semiarid region. Two experiments were carried out during two agricultural seasons 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in split plots, with four replicates. In the plots, five doses of phosphorus (P) (0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg ha-1 of P2O5) were applied in the planting furrow, and four cassava cultivars (Água Morna, BRS Gema de Ovo, Recife, and Venâncio) were cultivated in the subplots. The cultivars Água Morna and Recife export more phosphorus through their roots. The cultivars Venâncio and Água Morna show greater agronomic efficiency when fertilized with 60 kg ha-1 of P2O5. The apparent P recovery efficiency presented the following order: ‘BRS Gema de Ovo’ > ‘Água Morna’ > ‘Venâncio’ > ‘Recife’, with higher indices at the dose of 60 kg ha-1 of P2O5.

RESUMO Adequada nutrição potássica e cálcica é uma estratégia para reduzir o estresse salino sobre o tomateiro, pois reduz o desbalanço nutricional nas plantas. Com o objetivo de avaliar a produção do tomate utilizando irrigação com águas salinas, e fertigação com diferentes proporções potássio-cálcio, realizou-se um experimento em ambiente protegido em Mossoró, RN. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 5 x 4, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram em combinações de quatro condutividade elétricas da solução nutritiva (ECns) (1,75; 3,25; 4,75 e 6,25 dS m-1) com cinco proporções iônicas (m/m) de potássio e cálcio (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). As variáveis resposta foram: número de frutos, peso médio de fruto, produção de frutos por planta e produção relativa. Foi possível identificar resultados de produção satisfatórios quando se usa uma maior salinidade. O uso de fertigação com baixas proporções K+/Ca2+ potencializa o efeito da salinidade sobre a cultura do tomateiro.

ABSTRACT Adequate potassium and calcium nutrition is a strategy to reduce salt stress on tomatoes, as it reduces nutritional imbalance in plants. With the objective of evaluating tomato production using irrigation with saline waters and fertigation with different potassium-calcium proportions, an experiment was carried out in a protected environment in Mossoró, RN, Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of the combination of four electrical conductivity of nutrient solution (ECns) (1.75; 3.25; 4.75; and 6.25 dS m-1) combined with five ionic proportions (m/m) of potassium and calcium (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). The response variables were: number of fruits, mean fruit weight, fruit production per plant and relative yield. It was possible to identify satisfactory results of production when higher salinity was used. Fertigation with low K+/Ca2+ proportions intensifies the effect of salinity on tomato crop.

RESUMO O cultivo em substrato vem ganhando interesse dos produtores de hortaliças, entretanto ainda são recentes as informações técnicas para muitas culturas, a exemplo do maxixeiro, especialmente quanto à solução nutritiva. Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho de três cultivares de maxixeiro (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá e Liso Gibão) cultivadas em fibra de coco e fertigadas com soluções nutritivas de diferentes concentrações de nutrientes (50, 75, 100 e 125% da recomendação para o meloeiro), utilizando o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 × 4, com quatro repetições e parcelas constituídas por três plantas. Avaliaram-se variáveis de crescimento e produtividade. De forma geral, a cv. Liso de Calcutá produziu frutos mais pesados (35,69 g fruto-1), contudo a cv. Liso Gibão produziu em média 21,6 frutos planta-1 apresentando-se mais produtiva (542,19 g planta-1). As cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá são menos exigentes em nutrientes. Para obter o maior rendimento de frutos do maxixeiro cultivado em fibra de coco devem-se realizar as fertigações utilizando soluções nutritivas com 50% da concentração de nutrientes para as cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá, enquanto para a cv. Liso Gibão recomenda-se utilizar solução nutritiva com 75% da concentração de nutrientes recomendada para o cultivo do meloeiro.

ABSTRACT Substrate cultivation has been gaining interest from vegetable producers, however technical information for many crops is still recent, such as the gherkin, especially regarding the nutrient solution. This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the performance of three gherkin cultivars (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá and Liso Gibão) grown in coconut fiber and fertigated with nutrient solutions of different concentrations (50, 75, 100 and 125% of the recommendation for melon), using a randomized block design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four repetitions and plots composed of three plants. Growth and production variables were evaluated. In general, cv. Liso de Calcutá produced heavier fruits (35.69 g fruit-1), however cv. Liso Gibão produced an average of 21.6 fruits plant-1, being more productive (542.19 g planta-1). The cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá were less demanding on nutrients. In order to obtain the highest production of gherkin fruits cultivated in coconut fiber, fertigations must be carried out using nutrient solutions diluted in 50% for the cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá, while for cv. Liso Gibão it is recommended to use nutrient solution diluted in 75% of the concentration of nutrients recommended for the cultivation of melon.
