ABSTRACT The effective management of disturbed forests requires adequate knowledge of forest dynamics. In this study, we assessed the changes in a managed forest using 18 permanent 1 ha plots located in a ‘terra firme’ tropical rainforest in the Eastern Amazon (Paragominas, Brazil). All individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 20 cm were evaluated in two separate assessments conducted in 2006 and 2016. The results show that, ten years after logging, the managed forest exhibits an imbalance between recruitment (1.54% per year) and mortality (2.23% per year) rates, indicating that it is still in the process of recovering its structure. Nevertheless, biomass tended to increase after logging (28.49 tons per hectare). The characteristics of these changes suggest that the forest is undergoing a silvigenetic process driven by the effects of logging. RESUMO O manejo eficaz de florestas perturbadas requer um conhecimento adequado da dinâmica florestal. Neste estudo, avaliamos a mudança de uma floresta manejada em 18 parcelas permanentes de 1 hectare localizadas na floresta tropical de terra firme no leste da Amazônia (Brasil, Paragominas). Todos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 20 cm foram avaliados em duas avaliações separadas realizadas em 2006 e 2016. Os resultados indicam que, dez anos após a exploração, a floresta manejada apresenta um desequilíbrio nas taxas de recrutamento (1,54% ao ano) e mortalidade (2,23% ao ano), sugerindo que a floresta ainda está em processo de recuperação estrutural. No entanto, a biomassa mostrou um aumento após a exploração, atingindo 28,49 toneladas por hectare. As características das mudanças indicam que a floresta está em um processo silvigenético impulsionado pela exploração madeireira. Abstract We compared sampling techniques in a managed native forest in Paragominas, Pará, Brazil. Our goal in this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using Double Sampling (DS) and Sampling with Partial Replacement (SPR), when compared to Continuous Forest Inventory (CFI), to estimate the wood stock for trees with DBH ≥ 20 cm in a managed forest. In our results, DS had the best volume prediction, generating a sampling error of 5.20% (11.48 m³ ha-1) on the second occasion 3.86% (8.78 m³ ha-1). The average volume increment, estimated for the forest in the monitored period (2014-2016) was 6.88 m³ ha-1, with a relative sampling error of 63.09%. Therefore, as an alternative and of low cost, we suggest using DS in successive forest inventories in monitoring areas of forest resources in the Brazilian Amazon. Resumo Esse trabalho objetiva a avaliação da dinâmica temporal do reservatório de Serra da Mesa (GO) de maneira semi-automática e precisa, utilizando imagens orbitais. Para estimar a área plana da barragem foram utilizadas imagens Landsat TM e OLI para o período de 1998 a 2018. As imagens foram processadas por meio da plataforma Google Earth Engine a fim de obter a área da barragem (km²), vazão, dimensão e volume do reservatório ao longo dos anos. A barragem apresentou variação constante de água desde o seu início, com uma tendência decrescente. Os maiores valores das métricas de medição do reservatório foram observados nos anos coincidentes com os maiores volumes da barragem e os menores volumes foram detectados após a implementação de novas barragens a montante. Mais de 90% da variação da dimensão da água pode ser explicada pela área plana da barragem. A plataforma de processamento que utiliza o GEE é eficaz para fornecer uma análise temporal extensa e com grande volume de dados em pouco tempo, com resultados precisos e robustos.

Abstract The goal of this study was to assess the temporal dynamics of an accumulation reservoir in an accessible and accurate way. The study was conducted on the Serra da Mesa Dam (GO) using orbital images. To estimate the flat area of the dam surface, Landsat TM and OLI images for the period 1998 to 2018 were used. The images were processed using the Google Earth Engine platform (GEE) in order to obtain the dam surface area (km²) and relate it to the flow, altimetric height and volume of the reservoir over the years. The dam showed constant variation of water since its inception, with a decreasing trend. The highest values of the reservoir measurement metrics were observed in the years coincident with the largest areas of the dam, and inversely proportional to the years of the appearance of new dams upstream. More than 90% of the altimetric height variation of water could be explained by the flat area of the dam. The processing platform using the GEE is effective to provide extensive temporal analysis using a large volume of data in a short time, with accurate and robust results.

RESUMO A predição da produção florestal requer conhecimento de variáveis dendrométricas e edafoclimáticas. Esse trabalho teve por objetivo ajustar e avaliar a precisão do modelo 3-PG em estimar as variáveis altura, diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP), volume e incremento médio anual (IMA) em plantio comercial de Eucalyptus spp. no norte de Minas Gerais, utilizando dados meteorológicos provenientes de estações automáticas de superfície e de sensoriamento remoto. Para validação do modelo foram estimados os dados de altura, DAP, volume e IMA pelo 3-PG e comparados com dados de inventários florestais, totalizando 335 medições, em 10 talhões, realizadas no período de 2005 a 2011. Foram aplicados os métodos estatísticos correlação linear (Pearson - r), coeficiente de determinação (R²), erro padrão da estimativa (Syx), erro padrão da estimativa em porcentagem (Syx%) e eficiente do modelo (EF). Observou-se que o modelo tende a superestimar as variáveis dendrométricas quando se utiliza a parametrização proposta para região norte de Minas Gerais. Após o ajuste dos parâmetros relativos à idade de fechamento do dossel (fullCanAge), a relação entre stem e DAP (nS) e parametrização das equações alométricas relativas à altura total e ao volume de madeira, incorporado no 3-PG, o modelo obteve resultados satisfatórios com valores de R² = 0,94 e EF = 0,87 para DAP, altura e volume e R² = 0,85 e EF = 0,58 para o IMA, assim como apresentou distribuição dos dados estimados próximo aos valores médios dos dados observados. O 3-PG mostrou eficiência na estimativa do DAP, altura, volume e IMA, tornando-se ferramenta potencial para avaliação de áreas propícias para expansão de novos plantios.

ABSTRACT The prediction of a forest production requires knowledge of the dendrometric and edaphoclimatic variables. This study aimed to adjust and evaluate the accuracy of the 3-PG model in estimating the variables height, diameter at breast height (DBH), volume and mean annual increment (MAI) in commercial plantations of Eucalyptus spp. in northern of Minas Gerais state, using meteorological data from automatic surface stations and remote sensing. To validate the model, data of height, DBH, volume and MAI by 3-PG were estimated and compared with forest inventory data, totaling 335 measurements in 10 plots in the period 2005 to 2011. Linear statistical correlation methods (Pearson - r), the coefficient of determination (R²), the standard error of estimate (Syx), the standard error of the estimate in percentage (Syx%) and the efficient model (EF) were applied. It was observed that the model tends to overestimate the dendrometric variables when using the parameterization proposal for northern region of Minas Gerais state. After adjusting the parameters for the age of canopy closure (fullCanAge), the relationship between stem and DBH (nS) and parameterization of allometric equations for the total height and volume of wood incorporated in the 3-PG, obtained satisfactory results with values of R² = 0.94 and EF = 0.87 for DBH, height and volume and R² = 0.85 and EF = 0.58 for the MAI, as presented distribution of estimated data close to the average values of the observed data. The 3-PG was shown to be effective in estimating the DBH, height, volume and MAI become a potential tool for evaluating suitable areas for the expansion of new crops.
