Controlling the chemical parameters of the anaerobic digestion (AD) process is essential for the bioconversion of organic matter to methane; among these parameters include the presence and concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFAs). It is thus necessary to use efficient analytical methods that are capable of identifying and quantifying VFAs in reactor effluents in order to obtain an immediate response to their conditions. In this study, the liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) method was optimized and validated - through an adaptation of the official method, using acetone and KHSO4, and gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC-FID) was used for the determination of acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, isovaleric and valeric acids present in the effluents. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) obtained were 1.2-2.5 mg L-1 and 1.9-3.7 mg L-1, respectively, for all analytes. These low LODs and LOQs are essentially important because the presence of isobutyric and isovaleric acids above 5.0 mg can be considered indicative of imbalances in AD. ABSTRACT Obtaining introgression lines of saladete-type dwarf tomato plants can provide several advantages in breeding programs. In addition to increasing productivity, the dwarf plant can produce metabolites that are important to resistance to biotic stress. However, there are no saladette-type dwarf tomato introgression lines. The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic potential, fruit quality, and secondary metabolites associated with pest resistance for the development saladette-type dwarf tomato introgression lines. The experiment was conducted with 23 treatments, including the UFU MC TOM 1 donor parent, the UFU TOM 5 recurrent parent, the Pizzadoro commercial cultivar (control), 5 populations from the first backcross, and 15 populations from the second backcross. Agronomic and nutraceutical characteristics of fruits and the acylsugar content in the leaflets were evaluated. The genetic dissimilarity was calculated using the generalized Mahalanobis distance (D2). Genetic gain through selection was estimated using the rank sum index and the genotype-ideotype distance index. The selection indices showed the importance of obtaining the second backcross. RESUMO A obtenção de linhas de introgressão de tomateiro anão do tipo Saladete pode proporcionar vantagens em programas de melhoramento. Além do aumento de produtividade, a planta anã pode apresentar metabólitos para o estresse biótico. No entanto, não existe linhas de introgressão de tomateiro anão do tipo Saladete. Abstract This study highlights the importance of fungi, specifically Botrytis cinerea Pers., in the search for bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential. Extraction approaches using Soxhlet, and maceration methods were applied of the fungus to explore secondary metabolites production. The compound mannitol was separated from the crude extract through nuclear magnetic resonance. The results indicated a positive effect on the inhibitory action of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme for ethyl acetate fractions obtained from the broth. Additionally, significant cytotoxic effects were observed in neoplastic cell lines, with IC 50 values of 3.5 μg/mL, 5.6 μg/mL, and 8.5 μg/ mL for colon cancer cells, monocytes, and human glioma, respectively. Antimicrobial activity was also evident in B. cinerea extracts and fractions, particularly in the ethyl acetate fractions from the broth. Larvicidal activity was observed in the chloroform fractions of the broth, with CL50 values of 20,824 μg/mL and 83,401 μg/mL. Furthermore, morphological changes in larvae were observed when exposed to the fungus’s extracts and fractions. The results suggest that B. cinerea extracts and fractions have the potential to identify substances with applications in biological activities, such as cytotoxic, antimicrobial, and larvicidal actions. Abstract Interprofessional Education (IPE) in healthcare occurs when two or more professions learn with, about, and from each other to develop collaboration through a shared learning process, aiming to improve the quality of services provided. IPE fosters the development of three key competencies: common to all professions, specific to each professional area, and collaborative. In this context, this study aimed to synthesize existing knowledge in the literature regarding assessment instruments for measuring collaborative competencies in IPE. An integrative literature review was conducted between November and December 2020, using the SCOPUS and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, to synthesize the knowledge produced about the assessment instruments used to measure collaborative competencies in IPE. A compilation of 38 studies was performed. A wide variety of applied scales were observed, with a focus on application to students (42.1%) and professionals (39.5%) within an interprofessional perspective. The literature identified 29 scales used to measure collaborative competencies in IPE. Among these, the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale, with the highest representation among publications (20.0%), the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (8.0%), and the Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale (8.0%) stand out. Compiling the literature on the main applied scales enables the standardization of using validated and highly reliable scales, thus facilitating their integration into collaborative environments and aiming for the measurement and comparison of studies. Resumo Educação Interprofissional (EIP) em saúde acontece quando duas ou mais profissões aprendem com, sobre e para a outra como forma de desenvolver a colaboração através de um processo de aprendizagem compartilhada, visando a melhorar a qualidade dos serviços prestados. A EIP proporciona o desenvolvimento de três importantes competências: comuns a todas as profissões; específicas de cada área profissional; e colaborativas. Nesse sentido, este estudo objetivou sintetizar o conhecimento existente na literatura acerca dos instrumentos de avaliação para mensurar competências colaborativas na EIP. Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura entre novembro e dezembro de 2020, nas bases de dados SCOPUS e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), para sintetizar o conhecimento produzido acerca dos instrumentos de avaliação usados na mensuração de competências colaborativas na EIP. Foi feito um compilado de 38 estudos. Observou-se uma grande variedade de escalas aplicadas, com destaque para a aplicação em estudantes (42,1%) e profissionais (39,5%), dentro de uma perspectiva interprofissional. Foram identificadas na literatura 29 escalas utilizadas para mensuração de competências colaborativas na EIP. ABSTRACT The classification based on morphological descriptors in lettuce is considered a complex activity and proves to be efficient for studying phenotypic characteristics. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the biofortified lettuce germplasm bank at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia using both conventional morphological descriptors and artificial neural networks. The experiment was conducted in the field. The experimental design employed was a randomized complete block design, consisting of 14 treatments (11 genotypes of mini lettuce, and the cultivars Purpurita, UDI 10.000, and Pira 72) with four replications. Nine morphological descriptors were evaluated. Following the data acquisition, dissimilarity matrix analyses, principal component analysis, dendrogram construction, and artificial neural network (ANN) analyses were performed. The genotypes exhibited phenotypic variability when compared to the parental strains UDI 10.000 and Pira 72. The purple color of the leaves and anthocyanin presence across the entire leaf surface were predominant among the genotypes. Descriptors such as leaf intensity and color, as well as anthocyanin intensity, coloration, and distribution, were the most influential in assessing genetic variability. The Self-Organizing Map (SOM) demonstrated greater sensitivity in discriminating between genotypes compared to the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA). RESUMO A classificação baseada em descritores morfológicos em alface é considerada uma atividade complexa e mostra-se eficiente para estudo de características fenotípicas. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o banco de germoplasma de alface biofortificada da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia utilizando descritores morfológicos convencionais e redes neurais artificiais. O experimento foi conduzido em campo. O delineamento experimental empregado foi de blocos casualizados, composto por 14 tratamentos (11 genótipos de minialface e as cultivares Purpurita, UDI 10.000 e Pira 72) com quatro repetições. Resumo O envelhecimento é algo natural na vida de todos os seres humanos, podendo causar alterações tanto físicas como cognitivas. Sabe-se que o treinamento cognitivo traz diversos benefícios e melhora a qualidade de vida dos idosos. No entanto, ainda há poucos estudos sobre o treinamento cognitivo por meio do teleatendimento. A partir disso, este estudo teve como objetivo elaborar um treino cognitivo para o meio virtual e verificar sua aplicabilidade e eficácia em idosas. Participaram da pesquisa duas idosas, ambas com 67 anos de idade, e três juízes especialistas. Como critério de inclusão as participantes deveriam: ter de 60 a 75 anos; ter o Português Brasileiro como primeira língua; ter disponibilidade para participar do treinamento cognitivo duas vezes por semana; nunca ter feito treinamento cognitivo; ter internet wi-fi e computador/celular; serem alfabetizadas (no mínimo primeira série do ensino fundamental). O treinamento cognitivo foi elaborado com base nas principais queixas apresentadas pelas idosas quanto à atenção e memória, a partir dos dados obtidos por meio da aplicação dos questionários: PTA-II questionário da atenção e Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire - PRMQ. As tarefas elaboradas para o treinamento foram julgadas por três psicólogas doutoras e experts na área da neuropsicologia geriátrica. Os treinamentos foram feitos por meio da plataforma Google Meet, com duração de 12 sessões de 50 minutos cada. Foi possível verificar efeitos positivos na cognição, principalmente nos domínios percepção, linguagem e memória. O treinamento cognitivo auxiliou as idosas a manterem os processos cognitivos saudáveis, bem como adquirir ganhos cognitivos.

Abstract Aging is something natural in the lives of all human beings, which can cause both physical and cognitive changes. It is known that cognitive training brings many benefits and improves the quality of life of the elderly. However, there are still few studies on cognitive training through telemarketing. From this, this study had the aim to develop cognitive training for the virtual environment and to verify its applicability and effectiveness in elderly women. Two elderly women, both 67 years old and three expert judges, participated in the research. As inclusion criteria, participants should: be between 60 and 75 years old; having Brazilian Portuguese as a first language; be available to participate in cognitive training twice a week; never having done cognitive training; have wi-fi internet and computer/cell phone; who were literate (at least the first grade of elementary school) Cognitive training was developed based on the main complaints presented by the elderly women regarding attention and memory, based on the data obtained through the application of the questionnaires: PTA-II questionnaire of attention and Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire - PRMQ. The tasks developed for the training were judged by three doctoral psychologists and experts in the field of geriatric neuropsychology. The training was carried out through the Google Meet platform, lasting 12 sessions of 50 minutes each. It was possible to verify positive effects on cognition, mainly in the domains of perception, language and memory. Cognitive training helped the elderly to maintain healthy cognitive processes, as well as to acquire cognitive gains.

Methods We assessed 1,187 patients with Down syndrome, older than 4 years old, with an adaptation of the Personal Outcomes Scale validated for Portuguese language, interviewing patients, parents, and caregivers. Results A bad quality of life was reported in 56.4% of the sample. The main factors associated with better quality of life were female sex, first medical visit before 4 months old, higher parental education, a professionally active mother, and prenatal care. The main factors associated with worse quality of life were family history of alcohol abuse and psychiatric disorders and comorbidity with autism and epilepsy. Conclusion Clinical comorbidities such as autism and epilepsy carry a heavy burden among patients with Down syndrome, while factors related to family support, such as employment status and educational background of the parents, enhance quality of life. Resumo Antecedentes A síndrome de Down é a mais comum causa identificável de atraso de desenvolvimento e deficiência intelectual, afetando 1 a cada 700 nascidos vivos. Está associada a cardiopatias, infecções recorrentes e outras complicações que impactam significativamente a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Objetivo Avaliar os principais fatores associados a qualidade de vida em uma coorte de pacientes com Síndrome de Down. Métodos Avaliamos 1.187 pacientes com síndrome de Down com mais de 4 anos de idade utilizando uma adaptação da versão validada para o português da Escala Pessoal de Resultados, entrevistando pacientes, pais e cuidadores. Resultados Uma má qualidade de vida foi encontrada em 56.4% da amostra. Abstract Cognitive reserve (CR) is a construct generally associated with neurodegenerative diseases in aging. The aim of this paper was to examine the CR profiles of older adults at different stages of their lifespan and evaluate the importance of: (a) gender and CR; and (b) CR, cognition, and symptoms of depression. A sample of 195 older adults volunteered to participate in the study, and a cluster analysis was carried out on their responses in terms of the Cognitive Reserve Scale. An exploratory and documentary research was conducted to identify and analyze several council publications regarding questions and doubts raised by physicians when faced with discharge requests. Otros estudios refutan la idea del comercio internacional como principal vínculo entre la ocurrencia de transición forestal en países importadores y el avance de las fronteras agrícolas y deforestación en países productores. Teniendo en cuenta esta divergencia, buscamos evaluar si el comercio internacional de commodities agrícolas está asociado con el crecimiento forestal en los países importadores y la deforestación en los países exportadores. Abstract Critics of the forest transition theory suggest that it occurs through the displacement of agricultural production abroad while exporting countries suffer agricultural expansion and deforestation. Other studies refute the idea of international trade as the main connection between the occurrence of the forest transition in importing countries and the advance of agricultural frontiers and deforestation in producing countries. Considering this divergence, we assessed whether international trade in agricultural commodities is associated with forest growth in importing countries and deforestation in exporting countries. Data on exports and imports of soy and palm oil among the leading countries in this market were confronted with their historical variation of forest cover between 1990 and 2020. ■ ABSTRACT Introduction: Although prevalent, the epidemiology of burns has gaps. At the same time, Covid-19 established a new scenario with new human behaviors, which could equally impact the characteristics and incidence of burns. The overall objective of the project was to describe the epidemiological profile of patients in a Burn Treatment Unit. Methods: The study was a chart review from January 2018 to May 2022, including a sample of 1164 admissions from Hospital Padre Albino (Catanduva, São Paulo, Brazil). Statistical analysis was performed using Google Sheets and JAMOVI, and Mann-Whitney U-test was applied for comparison of time periods before and during the pandemic. Before data collection, the study was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution (document number 5.616.556, CAAE: 62621822.50000.5430). Results: The admissions presented a mean age of 31.38 years and 17.88% of body surface area burned, 452 women and 712 men, the mean age was 17 for women and 18.6 for men. The main agent was scalding. When it comes to period comparison, during the pandemic direct flaming had an 8% increase over the previous period (35%). The scalds still remained with high prevalence, however it presented a decrease of 2%, as well as the burns by dermabrasion, which had a decrease of 10%. Conclusion: The findings of the studies have limits in terms of generalization, and new studies need to be developed. The changes observed in the period were not significant and without clinical relevance. ■ RESUMO Introdução: Embora prevalente, a epidemiologia das queimaduras possui lacunas. Simultaneamente, a COVID-19 estabeleceu um cenário desafiador e com novos comportamentos humanos, que poderiam impactar nas características e na incidência de queimaduras. O objetivo geral do projeto foi descrever o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes de uma Unidade de Tratamento de Queimados. Método: O estudo foi uma revisão prontuários de janeiro de 2018 até maio de 2022, incluindo uma amostra de 1164 admissões do Hospital Padre Albino (Catanduva-SP). A análise estatística foi realizada através do Google Sheets e JAMOVI, sendo aplicado o Teste U de Mann-Whitney para comparação de períodos de tempo antes e durante a pandemia. Antes da coleta de dados, o mesmo foi submetido e aprovado pelo Conselho de Ética em Pesquisa da instituição (parecer número 5.616.556, CAAE: 62621822.50000.5430). Resultados: As admissões apresentaram idade média de 31,38 anos e 17,88% de Superfície Corporal Queimada (SCQ), sendo 452 mulheres e 712 homens; a média de SCQ foi de 17 para mulheres e 18,6 para homens. O principal agente causador foi a escaldadura. No que tange à comparação por períodos, durante a pandemia a chama direta teve um aumento de 8% em relação ao período anterior (35%). A escaldadura ainda permaneceu com prevalência elevada, no entanto, apresentou queda de 2%, assim como as queimaduras por dermoabrasão, com queda de 10%. Conclusão: Os achados dos estudos possuem limites em termos de generalização e novos estudos precisam ser desenvolvidos. As mudanças observadas no período não foram significativas e sem relevância clínica.
