Com objetivo de avaliar os efeitos do silício na suscetibilidade de Spodoptera frugiperda ao inseticida lufenuron e no desenvolvimento de plantas de milho, foram realizados dois experimentos, sendo um em laboratório e outro em campo. Os tratamentos consistiram de aplicações de ácido silícico associado ou não a diferentes doses do inseticida lufenuron. No experimento conduzido no laboratório, utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 5 (com e sem silício x doses de lufenuron), com cinco repetições. Já o experimento em campo foi em blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos, em esquema fatorial 2 x 3 (com e sem silício x doses de lufenuron) e quatro repetições. Avaliou-se, em laboratório, a mortalidade da lagarta-do-cartucho, tanto às 24h e 48h antes da aplicação do inseticida, quanto depois da aplicação. Danos ocasionados pela lagarta e as características agronômicas das plantas de milho foram avaliados no experimento de campo. Os resultados demonstraram que o silício interagiu positivamente com o inseticida lufenuron no controle de S. frugiperda, em plantas de milho, possibilitando uma redução da dose do inseticida e o fortalecimento da estrutura da planta por aumentar o diâmetro do caule.

With the objective of evaluating the effects of silicon in the efficiency of the insecticide lufenuron on the control of Spodoptera frugiperda and on the development of corn plants, two experiments were conducted, one being in laboratory and the other in the field. The treatments consisted of applications of silicic acid associated or not with different rates of the insecticide lufenuron. In the laboratory-conducted experiment, the completely randomized design in 2 x 3 factorial scheme (with or without silicon x rates of lufenuron) with five replicates was utilized, but the field experiment was in randomized blocks with six treatments in 2 x 3 factorial scheme (with and without silicon x dosages of lufenuron) and five replicates. In laboratory, the mortality of fall armyworm, both at 24 and 48h before the application of the insecticide and after application, was evaluated. The damages caused by the larvae and the agronomic characteristics of corn plants were also evaluate in the field. The results showed that silicon interacted positively with the insecticide lufenuron in the control of S. frugiperda, enabling a reduction of the insecticide dosage and it strengthened the plant structure for increasing the stem diameter.

O cultivo orgânico de batata inglesa apresenta viabilidade econômica, porém enfrenta problemas em relação à manutenção da sanidade. Este trabalho foi realizado para verificar o efeito da adubação com silício na incidência de insetos-praga e na produtividade da cultura da batata inglesa em sistema orgânico. Foram testados 5 tratamentos com 4 repetições: 1- testemunha; 2- adubação via solo com ácido silícico, na dose correspondente a 0,35t.ha-1; 3- adubação via foliar com solução de ácido silícico a 0,35%; 4- adubação via solo com pó de rocha, na dose correspondente a 2t.ha-1; 5-adubação via foliar com solução de pó de rocha a 2%. Os tratamentos foram aplicados 20 dias após o plantio da batata-semente. Foi monitorada a incidência de insetos-praga por meio da determinação do número pulgões, de lesões foliares provocadas por Diabrotica speciosa (Germar) e de folíolos minados por Liriomyza spp.. Determinaram, ainda, a altura e o diâmetro das plantas e a produtividade. Verificou-se que as plantas adubadas com silício, independentemente da forma de aplicação e da fonte utilizada, apresentaram menor número de injúrias foliares em relação àquelas da testemunha. Contudo, não foi constatado o efeito da adubação com silício no desenvolvimento e produtividade da cultura.

The organic cultivation of potato presents economical viability, however it faces problems in relation to the maintenance of sanity. This work was carried out to verify the effect of the silicon fertilization on the incidence of pest insects and in the productivity of potato in an organic system. Five treatments were tested, with four replications: 1- control; 2- fertilization applied via soil with silicic acid, in the dose corresponding to 0.35t.ha-1 3- fertilization applied via leaf with solution of silicic acid at 0.35%; 4- fertilization applied via soil with rock powder, in the dose corresponding to 2t.ha-1; 5- fertilization applied via leaf with rock powder solution at 2%. The treatments were applied 20 days after the plantation of the seed potato. The incidence of pest insects was monitored by means of the determination of the number of foliar lesions caused by Diabrotica speciosa (Germar) and the number of leaves mined by Liriomyza spp. The diameter and the height of the plants and the productivity were determined. Independently of the form of application and the source used, it was verified that the plants fertilized with silicon presented lower number of leaf injuries in relation to the control ones. However, it was not possible to verify the effect of the fertilization with silicon on the development and productivity of the culture.

O cultivo de tomate é uma atividade de destaque no Brasil em termos de produção e consumo e os estados de Goiás, São Paulo e Minas Gerais são os principais produtores. Visando a desenvolver novos compostos com função inseticida, este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de sintetizar acilaçúcares, aleloquímico presente nas folhas que conferem resistência natural ao tomateiro Lycopersicon pennellii e avaliar seus efeitos no comportamento da mosca-branca. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e cinco repetições. Os ensaios consistiram dos seguintes tratamentos: plantas de tomate cv. Santa Clara pulverizadas com água pura (testemunha); plantas de tomate cv. Santa Clara pulverizadas com acilaçúcar 01 (sintetizado a partir de sacarose); plantas de tomate cv. Santa Clara pulverizadas com acilaçúcar 02 (sintetizado a partir da glicose com cloreto de zinco como catalisador); plantas de tomate cv. Santa Clara pulverizadas com acilaçúcar 03 (sintetizado a partir da glicose com acetato de sódio como catalisador) e plantas de tomate Lycopersicon pennellii pulverizadas com água pura. A concentração do composto utilizada foi de 0,05%. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que o acilaçúcar 03 reduz a oviposição do inseto no tomateiro. Todavia, se fazem necessários estudos mais detalhados para se avaliar melhor a ação desse composto sobre a mosca-branca.

Tomato plant growing is an important activity in Brazil both in production and in consumption, and the states of Goiás, São Paulo and Minas Gerais are the main producing states. In order to develop new products with insecticide activity, this work was developed with the aim synthesizing acylsugar, alelochemical present in the leaves that give natural resistance to the tomato plant Lycopersicon pennellii evaluating and its effects on the behavior of the whitefly. The layout used was a completely randomized design, with five treatments and five repetitions. The trials consisted of the following treatments: Santa Clara tomato plants cultivar sprayed with pure water (control); Santa Clara tomato plants cultivar sprayed with acylsugar 01 (synthesized starting from sucrose); Santa Clara plants of tomato cultivar sprayed with acylsugar 02 (synthesized starting from the glucose with chloride of zinc as catalyst); tomato plants Santa Clara cultivar sprayed with acylsugar 03 (synthesized starting from the glucose with acetate of sodium as catalyst) and tomato plants Lycopersicon pennellii splayed with pure water. The concentration of the composition used was of 0.05%. The results showed that the acylsugar 03 reduce the egg laying activity of the whitefly in the tomato plant. However, it seems necessary to deepen studies to evaluate the action of this product on the whitefly behavior.

Com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito do silício aplicado via solo e foliar, bem como sua interação com o inseticida regulador de crescimento (lufenuron) no manejo de Spodoptera frugiperda em plantas de milho, foi realizado um ensaio em casa-de-vegetação e em laboratório, constando de nove tratamentos com cinco repetições. No laboratório do Departamento de Entomologia da Universidade Federal de Lavras-MG, avaliou-se a preferência das lagartas por folhas destacadas de plantas de milho provenientes dos diferentes tratamentos, bem como o consumo e a mortalidade dessa praga. Em casa-de-vegetação, foram avaliadas a intensidade das injúrias provocadas pelas lagartas nas folhas, utilizando uma escala visual de danos proposta por Davis & Williams (1989), bem como o número e a biomassa das lagartas vivas. Pelos resultados pode-se concluir que os tratamentos não afetaram a preferência da lagarta-do-cartucho em teste de livre escolha. A interação silício e lufenuron no manejo de S. frugiperda é positiva em relação ao inseticida isolado, provavelmente devido a resistência mecânica conferida pelo silício as folhas.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of sprayed silicon via soil and leaf as well as its interaction with growth regulating insecticide (lufenuron) in the management of Spodoptera frugiperda on corn plants. The trials were carried out in greenhouse and laboratory conditions and consisting of nine treatments with five replicates. In the laboratory, the preference of fall armyworms on detached leaves of corn plants from different treatments was evaluated, as well as the consumption and mortality of this pest. In the greenhouse, the damage caused by the insect on the leaves were evaluated by using a visual scale of injuries proposed by Davis & Williams (1989). In the greenhouse on the control treatment, both the number and weight of the larval were also determined. According to the results, silicon, the insecticide lufenuron and the interaction between silicon and lufenuron did not affect the preference of fall armyworm in a free choice test. The silicon x lufenuron interaction is positive in the management of S. frugiperda when compared to the insecticide only, probably due to a mechanical resistance by the silicon on the leaves surface.
