Abstract Paper aims Proposal of a Model for Systematic Optimization of Engineering Requirements applied to product concept development and based on a two-level integration of the methods Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ). Originality Requirements extraction directly from patent documents in order to identity the most relevant user requirements as well as the technical requirements interactions through a QFD matrix. Then, TRIZ Contradiction Matrix is used to withdraw the requirements contradictions through inventive principles in order to enable the product conception. Research method Case Study which enables the Model construction inductively through its application on the development of a mortar ammunition concept. Main findings A product concept comprising innovative features which reflect the laws of technology evolution from TRIZ. Implications for theory and practice The product concept definition points to the academic relevance of an integration model which identify the technical requirements objectively from patent documents.

RESUMO A secagem por micro-ondas em um futuro próximo irá desempenhar importante papel na industrialização da madeira, pois dela depende a melhora da estabilidade dimensional e aumento da resistência mecânica, dentre outras. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a secagem da madeira de louro preto utilizando o processo por micro-ondas e sua influência na formação de rachaduras, no tempo de secagem e na umidade final. Foi utilizado o programa desenvolvido para a madeira de mogno em função da semelhança entre os valores de suas densidades básicas. Foram realizadas 3 secagens, tendo a secagem S1 com umidade inicial média acima do PSF após 2 h 25 min chegado aos 13,99% de umidade final média. As secagens S2 e S3 com umidade inicial média abaixo do PSF depois de 2 h 08 min e 2 h 02 min apresentaram 14% e 14,62% de umidade final média, respectivamente. As secagens foram consideradas rápidas, e a diferença de umidade inicial das amostras mostrou que sofreram influência dos tratamentos na formação dos defeitos de rachaduras de topo e de superfície. A secagem S2 mostrou-se mais propensa em apresentar rachaduras de superfície do que rachaduras de topo, enquanto as rachaduras internas não se formaram em nenhuma das secagens realizadas.

ABSTRACT Microwave drying will play an important role in the industrialization of timber in the near future, because improved dimensional stability and increased mechanical strength of wood are dependent on its drying. The objective of this study was to evaluate the drying of Louro preto wood using the microwave process and its influence on drying time, final moisture content, and formation of checks. A program originally developed for Mahogany wood was used due to the similarity between the basic density values of the two wood species. To this end, three (3) drying processes were conducted: drying S1, with initial average moisture content above the fiber saturation point (FSP), reached 13.99% of the final average moisture content after 2h 25min; whereas drying S2 and S3, with initial average moisture contents below the FSP, showed 14.00 and 14.62% of the final average moisture content after 2h 8min and 2h 2min, respectively. The drying processes were considered fast, and the difference in the initial moisture contents of the samples showed the influence of the treatments in the formation of end and surface checks. Drying S2 was more prone to present surface checks than end checks, whereas internal checks were not found in any of the drying processes performed.

Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de estrutura para organizar o conhecimento sobre materiais e serviços de construção utilizados por empresas de edificações. O trabalho tem início com uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a organização do conhecimento, utilizando o sistema de classificação facetado e as diretivas propostas pela norma ISO, para a classificação da informação na indústria da construção civil. Uma proposta de estrutura foi elaborada e aplicada na organização do conhecimento disponível no sistema de qualidade de uma pequena empresa construtora. A estrutura proposta pode ser considerada como uma estrutura genérica, que deverá ser adaptada por cada empresa interessada em aplicá-la. A ênfase do trabalho está na elaboração da estrutura segundo a classificação facetada, com o estabelecimento dos termos e conceitos relacionados a essa área do conhecimento. A proposta contribui para a reorganização e a otimização do conhecimento em construção civil, que se encontra disperso nas diversas áreas relacionadas à gestão da construção, sobretudo o conhecimento relativo aos materiais e serviços envolvidos no processo da construção.

This paper proposes a structure for organizing knowledge on construction materials and services used by building companies. The paper begins with a review of the knowledge organization through the use of a faceted classification system, and the ISO standards directives for information classification in the construction industry. The proposed structure may be considered as generic, and must be adapted by a company that is interested in applying it. The paper emphasizes the creation of the structure according to the faceted classification by establishing terms and concepts related to this area of knowledge. The proposal contributes to reorganizing and optimizing knowledge in construction, which is scattered throughout several areas related to construction management, especially knowledge relevant to materials and services involved in the construction process.

O objetivo desse trabalho é aprofundar as discussões acerca de reflexões decorrentes da dissertação de mestrado de um dos seus autores (Borges, 1998). Tais reflexões estão relacionadas à utilização da linguagem gráfica como instrumento fundamental nos processos de criação e de tradução de soluções de projeto. A principal contribuição está relacionada à estruturação de um quadro de referência que articula as formas de concepção e representação do projeto arquitetônico com as etapas de sua progressão. Como conseqüência dos estudos realizados, são apresentadas as diretrizes para continuidade da pesquisa, algumas experiências já em andamento e os reflexos verificados nos processos de ensino e aprendizagem de disciplinas relacionadas à representação gráfica na Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF).

This work stress the discussions related to the studies developed in the master degree thesis of one of its authors (Borges, 1998). These studies are related to the use of the graphic language as a fundamental mean for the conception and representation of architectural designs. In that sense it is proposed a framework for the linkage of the types of graphic representation with the steps of the design progression. The results of the studies are presented as ongoing experiences, directions for the continuity of the research and reflections on the teaching and learning process in disciplines related to the graphic representation in the courses of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora.

Esse artigo mostra o desenvolvimento recente dos materiais novos e avançados e seus impactos na organização insustrial exigindo flexibilidade em todas as fases: P&D, projeto e produção. Essas mudanças estão gerando produtos novos e melhorados e atendendo também aos requisitos ambientais. Discute-se o conceito de materiais avançados e apresenta-se os desenvolvimentos recentes nesse campo. O desenvolvimento de materiais especiais para o setor automobilístico é também enfatizado como exemplo significativo da revolução dos materiais e seus impactos inovadores na estrutura industrial deste setor vital.

This article shows the recent development of new and advanced materials and its impatcs on the industrial organization, asking for flexiblility from the R&D through the design fase until the production level. These changes are enabling new and better products and also meeting environmental requirements. The concept of advanced material is discussed and the recent progresses on materials field are presented.. The development of special materials and its new applications in the automotive industry is also stressed as a significant exemple of the materials revolution and its innovative impacts on the industrial structure of this core sector.

Este artigo apresenta um método para verificação da semelhança entre duas peças, baseado nas técnicas de análise de grupamentos. O método é indicado para uso na etapa de projeto detalhado como auxílio à decisão na tarefa de especificação completa da geometria das peças. Os resultados indicam que o uso adequado deste método na etapa de projeto detalhado pode reduzir o universo de peças projetadas, aumentando o grau de padronização do produto.

This paper presents a method for shape similarity verification based on cluster analysis techniques. The method was used for selection of components in the product detailed design stage. The results showed that the method can contribute for reducing company components spectrum, improving product standardization and company performance.
