Resumo: Com foco em diferentes modos de pensar o porvir e o fim, este trabalho analisa a mudança de escala em despedidas que ganharam forma em certa produção cultural recente. Partindo de poemas de Roberto Bolaño e do filme Melancholia de Lars von Trier, o artigo sugere que a atenção renovada à finitude e à mortalidade teve efeitos variados sobre a experiência temporal, levando a reações que vão da apreciação da lentidão à vontade de aceleração, incluindo a incitação à destruição. Há ainda, ao longo do trabalho, uma consideração da persistência de antagonismos de diferentes tipos no interior da experiência de antecipação da catástrofe, por mais que muitas representações culturais prefiram imaginar a ameaça como generalizada. Ao final, antes de terminar, revisita-se o problema do fim do poema.

Abstract: Focusing on different ways of thinking about the future and the end, this paper examines changes in the scale of the farewells taking shape in recent cultural productions. In readings of poems by Roberto Bolaño and the film Melancholia by Lars von Trier, this article suggests that renewed attention to finitude and mortality has had varied effects on temporal experience, with reactions ranging from the pursuit of slowness to the desire for the acceleration of time, including the instigation of destruction. The paper also reflects on the persistence of antagonisms of different sorts within the experience of the anticipation of catastrophe, even as cultural representations tend to stress the generality of the threat. Finally, the paper revisits the question about the problem of the end of the poem.

Resumen: Centrándose en las diferentes maneras de pensar el futuro y el fin, este trabajo se centra en el cambio de escala en las despedidas que ganaron forma en la producción cultural reciente. A partir de poemas de Roberto Bolaño y de la película Melancolía de Lars von Trier, el texto sugiere que la atención renovada a la finitud y la mortalidad tiene efectos variados sobre la experiencia temporal, llevando a reacciones que van de la búsqueda de un aprendizaje de la lentitud hasta el deseo de aceleración del tiempo, incluyendo la incitación a la destrucción. A lo largo del trabajo, también se aprecia la persistencia de antagonismos de diferentes tipos dentro de la experiencia de anticipación de la catástrofe, aunque representaciones culturales prefieran destacar las generalidades de esa amenaza. Al final, antes de terminar, se regresa a la pregunta sobre el fin del poema.

Resumo O texto ensaia uma reflexão sobre a sala de aula, passando por questões como o início da aula, a relação entre o programa e o improviso, o lugar da explicação no ensino e o problema do endereçamento e da solidão na aula. Trata-se da versão revisada de dois blocos do Memorial Acadêmico submetido em junho de 2016 ao Departamento de Teoria Literária e Literatura Comparada da Universidade de São Paulo, como parte de um concurso para a Livre-Docência. Outra parte do texto, identificada, foi apresentada no início da disciplina de pós-graduação “Questões de literatura e ética” no primeiro semestre de 2016 na USP.

Abstract The text attempts a reflection on the classroom through questions such as the beginning of a class, the relationship between program and improvisation, the place of explanation in teaching, and the problems of addressing people and loneliness in the classroom. It is the revised version of two sections of an Academic Mémoire submitted in June 2016 to the Department of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature of the University of São Paulo, as part of the requirements for applying for the position of Associate Professor. Another part of the text, identified below, was presented at the beginning of the graduate course “Questions of Literature and Ethics” in the first semester of 2016 at the University of São Paulo.

El artículo analiza la reacción pública en Brasil ante la reciente denuncia de que habría racismo en las populares novelas de literatura infantil del escritor Monteiro Lobato. El objetivo es, a través de la lectura de textos producidos durante la polémica, entender mejor los posibles residuos de esclavitud en la sociedad brasileña contemporánea.

The article analyzes public reactions in Brazil to the recent denunciation of racism in Monteiro Lobato's popular children's novels. Through a reading of the texts published during the controversy, the article aims at a better understanding of possible residues of slavery in contemporary Brazilian society.

Este artigo analisa a reação pública no Brasil ante a recente denúncia de que haveria racismo nos populares romances de literatura infantil do escritor Monteiro Lobato. O objetivo deste artigo é, por meio da leitura de textos produzidos durante a polêmica, entender melhor os possíveis resíduos de escravidão na sociedade brasileira contemporânea.

Partindo da leitura de um trecho da Circonfissão de Jacques Derrida, o trabalho revisita a questão do sacrifício, agora tendo em vista sua possível contribuição para uma reflexão sobre os estudos literários no presente. Se o sacrifício é o anúncio de uma escolha, a estrutura sacrificial pode ser útil para pensar a literatura em suas relações com demandas de diversas naturezas, ressaltando eventuais semelhanças entre a teoria literária e a teologia em suas respostas à diferença. A leitura do livro de Derrida, texto escrito durante doença de sua mãe, permite que se avalie como o autor imagina que a literatura responde a dilemas éticos presentes na escrita de qualquer texto.

Drawing on a reading of an excerpt from Jacques Derrida's Circonfession, the paper revisits the question of sacrifice, exploring in this case its possible contributions to a reflection on contemporary literary studies. If sacrifice is the declaration of a choice, the sacrificial structure may be useful in thinking about literature and its relations with demands of different sorts, highlighting possible similarities between literary theory and theology in their responses to difference. Reading Derrida's book, a text written during an illness endured by his mother, allows the paper to evaluate how literature responds to the ethical dilemmas present in every text.

A partir de la lecture d'un extrait de Circonfession de Jacques Derrida, ce travail reprend la question du sacrifice pour y évaluer maintenant une contribution possible pour une réflexion sur les études littéraires aujourd'hui. Si le sacrifice est l'annonce d'un choix, la structure sacrificielle peut s'avérer utile pour penser la littérature dans ses relations avec les demandes de diverses natures, moyennant la mise en valeur d'éventuelles similitudes entre la théorie littéraire et la théologie dans leurs réponses à la différence. La lecture du livre de Derrida, texte écrit pendant la maladie de sa mère, permet d'évaluer dans quelle mesure l'auteur imagine que la littérature répond aux dilemmes éthiques présents dans l'écriture de tout texte.

VOLTAR ao escritor peruano José María Arguedas hoje, em meio a discussões sobre a especificidade histórica e conceitual da literatura, pode permitir que vejamos com outros olhos sua defesa de uma teoria da representação em que a dicotomia fato/fetiche deixa de ter sentido. Se as narrativas transculturadoras da literatura hispano-americana de meados do século XX se ocuparam da transformação da religião em literatura, o que se vê em Arguedas é, ao contrário, a tentativa de ritualização da literatura e a defesa de algo que poderíamos chamar, talvez, de um direito a não ser literatura.

A RETURN to Peruvian writer José Mar ía Arguedas today, amidst discussions regarding the historical and conceptual specificity of literature, may allow us to see in a new light his defense of a theory of representation in which the dichotomy fact/fetish loses its ground. If the narratives of transculturation in mid-twentieth-century Spanish American literature transformed religion into literature, in Arguedas what one sees is, on the contrary, the attempt to ritualize literature and defend something we could call, perhaps, a right to not be literature.
