ABSTRACT Canola has considerable global significance in edible oil and biodiesel production. In Brazil, canola has adapted to the temperate South region, where production is now concentrated. However, research indicates potential for growing the crop in warmer regions. This study evaluated the performance of canola hybrids under growing conditions in the Campo das Vertentes mesoregion, Minas Gerais, during the 2019 and 2021 harvests. The experiments were conducted in a randomized block 6 × 6 factorial design, with four replicates. Six canola hybrids, Hyola 433, Hyola 575 CL, Nuola 300, Hyola 571 CL, Diamond, and ALHT B4, and six sowing dates: 02/15/2019, 02/28/2019, 03/20/2019, 04/09/2019, 02/22/2021, and 03/11/2021 were tested. The plant height, total number of siliques per plant, number of grains per silique, grain yield, and canola oil yield were evaluated. The Nuola 300 and Hyola 575 CL hybrids showed superior grain and oil yields, indicating potential success in growing in the Brazilian Cerrado region. Findings indicated an optimal sowing period in the Campo das Vertentes region until March. These results stress the importance of strategically selecting hybrids and sowing timelines to maximize canola yield in the region under study. RESUMO Há evidências de que as taxas de acúmulo de massa seca e nutrientes das cultivares mais precoces (determinadas) são mais rápidas do que aquelas de ciclo normal ou tardio (indeterminado). Objetivou-se quantificar a extração e exportação de nutrientes e o índice de colheita de cultivares de feijão-comum determinadas e indeterminadas. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições e oito cultivares (BRS FC104, TAA Gol, BRS Estilo, BRSMG Uai, IPR Tuiuiú, BRSMG Marte, Pérola e TAA Dama). Foram determinados o acúmulo de massa seca e de nutrientes nos estádios vegetativo e reprodutivo, produtividade e exportação de nutrientes. No início do estádio vegetativo, as cultivares precoces TAA Gol e BRS FC104 (tipo I - determinadas) apresentaram maior acúmulo de massa seca e nutrientes do que as indeterminadas tipos II e III. No entanto, a partir de R7, não houve diferenças entre as cultivares nas extrações, bem como nas exportações de nutrientes e no índice de colheita. Foram exportados 33; 11; 17; 2,3; 2,2; e 1,5 kg t-1 de grão de N, P2O5, K2O, S, Mg e Ca, respectivamente. No caso dos micronutrients, foram 14; 3,7; 70; 13; e 34 g Mg-1 de grão de B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn. ABSTRACT There is evidence that the dry mass and nutrient accumulation rates of earlier (determinate) cultivars are faster than those of normal or late cycle (indeterminate). This study aimed to quantify the nutrient extraction and export and calculate the harvest index of determinate and indeterminate common bean cultivars. A randomized block design was used, with four replicates and eight cultivars (BRS FC104, TAA Gol, BRS Estilo, BRSMG Uai, IPR Tuiuiú, BRSMG Marte, Pérola and TAA Dama). The accumulation of dry matter and nutrients at the vegetative and reproductive stages, grain yield and grain nutrient export were determined. The early cultivars TAA Gol and BRS FC104 (Type I - determinate) accumulated more dry matter and nutrients during the vegetative stage than the indeterminate types II and III. However, from R7, no differences were observed among the cultivars for extractions or nutrient exports and harvest index. The cultivars exported 33, 11, 17, 2.3, 2.2 and 1.5 kg t-1 of grain for N, P2O5, K2O, S, Mg and Ca, respectively. Micronutrient exports were 14, 3.7, 70, 13 and 34 g Mg-1 of grain for B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, respectively. ABSTRACT. In soils with adequate levels of fertility, it is possible to manage phosphate fertilization aiming at the grain production system, instead of each isolated crop. The objective was to evaluate the effects of the management of phosphate fertilization, place and time, on the soil and leaf P content, and crop yield in grain production systems. An experiment was conducted at the farm level in the municipality of Nazareno, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, for four years on soil with adequate level of fertility. The treatments consisted of the management of phosphate fertilization by broadcast or furrow and dose for each crop or for the production system (spring/summer and autumn/winter crops), being: Control = without phosphate fertilization; Conventional = phosphate fertilization in the furrow in each crop; BTP = phosphate fertilization of the grain production system to broadcast; TPS = phosphate fertilization of the grain production system in the furrow of the spring/summer crop; TPW = phosphate fertilization of the grain production system in the furrow of the autumn/winter crop. Soil P content was evaluated in the third year of implantation, and the crops yield every season crop (maize, soybean, common bean and wheat). The P content in the leaves of maize and soybeans were evaluated in the spring/summer crops. The application of the total dose of phosphate fertilization for both crops in the sowing furrow of the spring/summer or autumn/winter crops (TPS and TPW) promoted operational advantages and increased soil P content in the 0-0.20 m layer, without reducing the yield of the spring/summer crops. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar a extração e a exportação de nutrientes por cultivares de feijão-comum (Phaseolus vulgaris) de diferentes grupos comerciais e hábitos de crescimento. O experimento foi conduzido com quatro cultivares de feijão-comum: TAA Gol, BRS FC104, IPR Tuiuiú e TAA Dama. Determinou-se o acúmulo de massa seca (MS) total e de nutrientes nos estádios V4 (com quatro, seis e oito trifólios), R5, R7, R8 e R9, bem como a produtividade de grãos e a exportação de nutrientes por eles. Observaram-se diferenças tanto na absorção de nutrientes como no acúmulo de MS e de nutrientes entre as cultivares, nos estádios iniciais de desenvolvimento (V4 com seis e oito trifólios). A cultivar TAA Gol apresentou maior acúmulo de quase todos os nutrientes nesses dois estádios iniciais. Em R7, a cultivar que obteve maior acúmulo de MS e nutrientes foi TAA Dama, mas, a partir de R8, não houve diferenças significativas. Embora a exportação de nutrientes seja semelhante entre as cultivares, uma menor percentagem é translocada para os grãos em TAA Dama.

Abstract The objective of this work was to quantify the extraction and export of nutrients by common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars from different commercial groups and with different growth habits. The experiment was conducted using four common bean cultivars: TAA Gol, BRS FC104, IPR Tuiuiú, and TAA Dama. Total dry matter (DM) and nutrient accumulation in the V4 (with four, six, and eight three-leaflet leaves), R5, R7, R8, and R9 stages was determined, as well as grain yield and nutrient export. Differences were observed both in nutrient uptake and in DM and nutrient accumulation among the cultivars in the initial stages of development (V4 with six and eight three-leaflet leaves). The TAA Gol cultivar showed a greater accumulation of almost all nutrients in these two initial stages. In R7, the cultivar that had the greatest DM and nutrient accumulation was TAA Dama, but, from R8 onwards, there were no significant differences. Although nutrient export is similar among the evaluated cultivars, a lower percentage is translocated to the grain in TAA Dama.

RESUMO Clorofilômetros portáteis podem ser utilizados para melhorar a previsão de doses de nitrogênio (N) em feijoeiro. Objetivou-se avaliar dois clorofilômetros (Minolta SPAD-502 e ClorofiLOG CFL 1030) para predizer doses de N em cobertura para as cultivares Pérola, TAA Gol, BRSMG Uai e para a linhagem VR 20. Oito experimentos de campo (quatro genótipos e dois dispositivos) foram conduzidos em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, cujos tratamentos consistiram na aplicação de N em cobertura correspondendo a quatro índices de suficiência de nitrogênio. Houve discrepâncias entre os índices obtidos pelos diferentes dispositivos para o mesmo genótipo, bem como entre os obtidos com o mesmo dispositivo para os diferentes genótipos estudados. Assim, quando o índice é utilizado para definir as doses de N, deve-se considerar o genótipo e o clorofilômetro utilizado. Além disso, o índice recomendado de 95 % não deve ser generalizado para todas as cultivares e deve ser reduzido.

ABSTRACT Portable chlorophyll meters can be used to improve the prediction of nitrogen (N) doses for common bean. This study aimed to evaluate two chlorophyll meters (Minolta SPAD-502 and ClorofiLOG CFL 1030) to predict topdressing N doses for the Pérola, TAA Gol and BRSMG Uai cultivars and for the VR 20 line. Eight field experiments (four genotypes and two devices) were carried out in a randomized blocks design, with four replicates, being the treatments topdressing N applications corresponding to four nitrogen sufficiency indices. There were discrepancies between the indices obtained by the different devices for the same genotype, as well as among those obtained with the same device for the different genotypes studied. Thus, when the index is used to define the N doses, the genotype and the chlorophyll meter used must be considered. In addition, the recommended index of 95 % should not be generalized to all the cultivars and should be reduced.

RESUMO As atuais recomendações de doses de nitrogênio (N) podem não contemplar a dinâmica complexa do N no solo, o que pode implicar em insuficiência à demanda da cultura. Objetivou-se avaliar o uso de dois medidores portáteis de clorofila (Minolta SPAD 502 e ClorofiLOG modelo CFL 1030), após a definição do índice de suficiência de nitrogênio (ISN), para estimar o fator de adubação nitrogenada em genótipos modernos de feijão. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos, com 4 repetições. Cada experimento foi composto por quatro tratamentos, com doses de 0; 5; 10; e 20 kg ha-1 de N para cada 1 % considerado abaixo do ISN definido como adequado para cada cultivar. Ao final do ciclo, foram avaliados os componentes de produção e a produtividade. Não foi possível a obtenção de ajustes precisos na metodologia para a cultivar TAA Gol. O fator de adubação de 12,5 kg ha-1 de N a cada 1 % abaixo do ISN de 90 % mostrou-se eficiente para a cultivar Pérola, quando utilizado o clorofilômetro SPAD-502. Em genótipos com características de porte e ciclo semelhantes às da cultivar BRSMG Uai e linhagem VR 20, com a utilização de fator de adubação entre 14 e 16 kg ha-1 de N, o ISN de 95 % deve ser reduzido, visando aumentar a eficiência da adubação nitrogenada.

ABSTRACT The current recommendations for nitrogen (N) doses may not contemplate the complex dynamics of N in the soil, what may imply in insufficiency to the crop demand. This study aimed to evaluate the use of two portable chlorophyll meters (Minolta SPAD 502 and ClorofiLOG model CFL 1030), after defining the nitrogen sufficiency index (NSI), to estimate the nitrogen fertilization factor in modern bean genotypes. A block design was used, with four replications. Each experiment consisted of four treatments, with doses of 0, 5, 10 and 20 kg ha-1 of N for each 1 % considered below the NSI defined as adequate for each cultivar. At the end of the cycle, the production components and yield were evaluated. It was not possible to obtain precise adjustments in the methodology for the TAA Gol cultivar. The fertilization factor of 12.5 kg ha-1 of N for each 1 % below the NSI of 90 % proved to be efficient for the Pérola cultivar, when the SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter was used. In genotypes with size and cycle characteristics similar to those of the BRSMG Uai cultivar and the VR 20 strain, using a fertilization factor between 14 and 16 kg ha-1 of N, the NSI of 95 % must be reduced, in order to increase the efficiency of the nitrogen fertilization.

ABSTRACT. The effect of tillage system (NT-no tillage; CT-conventional tillage; MT-minimum tillage; and NT/scarification, every three years) on soybean nutrient availability and yield was evaluated on Oxisol after 12 years of cultivation. Soil samples were collected at depths of 0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10, and 0.10-0.20 m and were analyzed for P, K, Ca, Mg, carbon (C), organic matter (OM), pH value, potential CEC, base saturation (BS%), and number of semiquinone organic radicals. The macronutrient concentration in the leaves and amount accumulated in the plants at the blooming stage were determined, as well as the yield of the two soybean crops. The soil pH value, BS% and K, Ca, and Mg concentrations were not influenced by the tillage system. The soil P and OM in the surface layer, however, were inversely proportional to the intensity of soil preparation. The P content in the soil surface layer under NT was twice as high as that of soil under CT. The P content in the soybean leaves under NT was also higher compared to that in the plants under CT and MT. The number of semiquinone radicals was low in the soil surface layer under NT, indicating a small degree of humification. However, soybean yield was not affected by the tillage system.

RESUMO O herbicida lactofen vem sendo utilizado por produtores nas mais diversas condições, visando aumentar a produtividade da soja. Objetivou-se estudar a influência de lactofen e do fito-hormônio cinetina nos caracteres morfoagronômicos, partição de carboidratos e produtividade, em cultivares de soja. Foram conduzidos três experimentos em campo, além de um experimento em casa-de-vegetação. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram: lactofen [144 g ha-1 de ingrediente ativo (i.a.)], lactofen + cinetina (144 g ha-1 de i.a. + 0,5 g ha-1), cinetina (0,5 g ha-1), corte manual das gemas apicais e controle. Na subparcela, foram utilizadas seis cultivares de soja (M 6410 IPRO, M 5917 IPRO, NS 7670 RR, NS 6909 IPRO, BMX Lança IPRO e Produza IPRO). Em campo, foram avaliados o índice de acamamento, altura de plantas, número de nós e ramos, vagens e grãos por planta, massa de 100 grãos e produtividade. Em casa-de-vegetação, foram quantificados o amido, açúcares redutores, sacarose e açúcares totais nas folhas, caules e raízes de três cultivares de soja. A aplicação de lactofen em V6 influenciou nas características morfoagronômicas das cultivares no campo e incrementou a produtividade em 312 kg ha-1 de soja, considerando-se todas as cultivares. O fito-hormônio não influenciou nas características morfoagronômicas e produtividade. Os tratamentos não induziram alteração na partição de carboidratos destinados às raízes.

ABSTRACT The herbicide lactofen has been used by producers in many conditions, in order to increase the soybean yield. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of lactofen and the phytohormone kinetin on the morpho-agronomic traits, carbohydrate partitioning and yield, in soybean cultivars. Three experiments were carried out in the field, in addition to one experiment in a greenhouse. A randomized block design, with four replications, was used. The treatments were: lactofen [144 g ha-1 of active ingredient (a.i.)], lactofen + kinetin (144 g ha-1 of a.i. + 0.5 g ha-1), kinetin (0.5 g ha-1), manual cutting of apical buds and control. In the subplots, six soybean cultivars (M 6410 IPRO, M 5917 IPRO, NS 7670 RR, NS 6909 IPRO, BMX Lança IPRO and Produza IPRO) were used. In the field, the plant lodging index, plant height, number of nodes and branches, pods and grains per plant, mass of 100 grains and grain yield were evaluated. In the greenhouse, the starch, reducing sugars, sucrose and total sugars in the leaves, stems and roots of three soybean cultivars were quantified. The application of lactofen in the V6 stage influenced the morpho-agronomic traits of the cultivars in the field and increased the soybean yield by 312 kg ha-1, considering all the cultivars. The phytohormone did not influence the morpho-agronomic traits neither the grain yield. The treatments did not induce modification in the partitioning of carbohydrates destined to the roots.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a absorção e a exportação de macronutrientes por híbridos transgênicos de milho sob níveis de fertilização médio e alto. Em cada nível de adubação, utilizou-se delineamento de blocos ao acaso na safra de verão, sob plantio direto e irrigação suplementar, com quatro cultivares e quatro repetições. As plantas foram amostradas ao longo de todo o ciclo, tendo-se separado folhas, colmo, palha da espiga, sabugo e grãos para determinação de massa de matéria seca e acúmulo de macronutrientes nos diferentes estádios fenológicos. Sob o nível elevado de fertilização, observou-se maior produção de massa de matéria seca e extração de nutrientes, mas produtividade de grãos similar à sob o nível médio de fertilização. Parte da absorção de N, P, Ca, Mg e S ocorre mais tarde no ciclo das cultivares transgênicas, as quais também apresentaram menores concentrações de P, K e S nos grãos quando comparadas a híbridos mais antigos. O comportamento diferencial das cultivares avaliadas sob diferentes níveis de fertilização indica a necessidade de atualização e aprimoramento das recomendações de manejo nutricional e de adubação para a cultura do milho.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate macronutrient uptake and export by transgenic corn hybrids under medium and high fertilization levels. For each fertilization level, a randomized complete block design was carried out in the summer crop season, under no-tillage and supplementary irrigation, with four cultivars and four replicates. Plants were sampled throughout the entire cycle and separated into leaves, stalk, husk, cob, and grains for the determination of dry matter mass and accumulation of macronutrients in the different growth stages. Under the high fertilization level, a greater dry matter mass and nutrient uptake were observed, but grain yield was similar to that under the medium fertilization level. The uptake of N, P, Ca, Mg, and S occurs until later in the cycle of the transgenic cultivars, which also showed lower concentrations of P, K, and S in grains, when compared to older hybrids. The differential behavior of the evaluated cultivars under different fertilization levels indicates the need of updating and improving nutritional management and fertilizer recommendations for the corn crop.

O potássio é o segundo nutriente mais exportado pela cultura da soja. Dessa forma, sua disponibilidade no solo pode influenciar tanto o rendimento da cultura, como a qualidade e composição química das sementes de soja. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da adubação potássica sobre caracteres agronómicos, teor de óleo e qualidade sanitária de sementes de soja. Os ensaios decorreram no ano agrícola 2012/13 em dois locais distintos no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. O delineamento experimental constou de um esquema em blocos casualizado, com três repetições, e tratamentos dispostos em esquema fatorial 4 x 6, com quatro cultivares (TMG 127 RR, TMG 1179 RR, BRSMG 850G RR, NA7255 RR) e seis doses de potássio (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 e 200 kg.ha-1). Foram avaliados o rendimento, altura de plantas, inserção de primeira vagem, acama de plantas, teor de óleo e a sanidade de sementes. O aumento nas doses de potássio alterou a composição química das sementes e incrementou significativamente o teor de óleo; no entanto, não houve efeito para os caracteres agronómicos e o rendimento de grãos. Os níveis de patógenos nas sementes aumentaram à medida que se diminui o fornecimento de potássio para as plantas.

Potassium is the second most exported nutrient for soybean. Thus, their availability in the soil can influence both crop yield, the quality and chemical composition of soybean seeds. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of potassium fertilization on agronomic traits, oil content and sanitary quality of soybean seeds. The trials took place in the agricultural year 2012/13 in two separate locations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of a randomized block design, with three replications, and treatments arranged in a factorial scheme 4 x 6, with four cultivars (TMG 127 RR, TMG 1179 RR, BRSMG 850G RR, NA7255 RR) and six doses potassium (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg ha-1). They evaluated the yield, plant height, first pod insertion, plants lodging, oil content and seed health. The increase in potassium levels altered the chemical composition of seeds and increased significantly oil content; however, there was no effect on the agronomic characteristics and grain yield. The contents of the seed pathogens increase as it decreases the potassium supply to the plants.

RESUMO. Avaliou-se o efeito da calagem sobre a disponibilidade de micronutrientes à soja cultivada em solo, com diferentes tempos de cultivo sob sistema de semeadura direta (SD). Os tratamentos consistiram de número de anos sob SD (três, seis e nove anos) e cinco doses de calcário (0, 33, 67 e 100% da quantidade necessária para elevar a saturação por bases a 70%), aplicadas em superfície, mais a dose 100% incorporada na camada 0-0,20 m de um Latossolo Vermelho argiloso. Amostras de solo e de folha foram coletadas em dois estádios de vegetação da soja (V4: estádio vegetativo e R2: florescimento pleno). O solo foi amostrado nas profundidades de 0-0,05, 0,05-0,10, 0,10-0,20 e 0,20-0,30 m. A calagem superficial exerceu pouco efeito sobre os teores de micronutrientes no solo e nas folhas de soja. Na área com três anos sob sistema de SD todas as doses de calcário reduziram os teores de Zn até a profundidade de 0,20 m. A incorporação de calcário diminuiu o teor de Mn da camada superficial. Os teores de micronutrientes no solo e as concentrações nas folhas da soja não variaram com os anos de cultivo sob SD. Estes dados sugerem que as doses atualmente empregadas de calcário aplicadas na superfície de solos sob SD não necessariamente conduzem a deficiências de micronutrientes.

The treatments consisted of the number of years under NT (three, six, and nine years) and five rates of lime (0, 33, 67 and 100% of the amount calculated to raise soil base saturation to 70%) broadcast on soil surface plus the rate of 100% broadcast with incorporation in the 0-0.20 m layer of a clayey Red Oxisol. Soil and leaf samples were collected at two vegetative stages of the crop (vegetative V4 and blossoming R2). The soil was sampled at depths of 0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.20, and 0.20-0.30 m. Surface liming had little effect on extractable soil micronutrient and nutrient concentrations in soybean leaves. In the area with three years under NT, all liming rates decreased the extractable soil Zn up to a depth of 0.20 m. Lime incorporation decreased the extractable soil Mn in the surface layer. There were no differences in the extractable soil micronutrients and nutrient concentrations in soybean leaves as a function of the number of years under NT. These data suggest that broadcasting lime at current rates on soils under NT does not necessarily lead to micronutrient deficiencies.

RESUMO: A densidade de plantas no cultivo de soja é uma prática de manejo relevante para o alcance de alta produtividade de grãos. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar os caracteres agronômicos e produtividade dos grãos na soja em diferentes densidades de plantas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, dispostos em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com três repetições. As parcelas foram compostas por quatro densidades populacionais (300, 400, 500 e 600 mil plantas por hectare) e, as subparcelas foram compostas por seis cultivares (‘BMX Força RR’, ‘CD 250 RR’, ‘FMT 08 - 60.346/1’, ‘NA 5909 RR’, ‘TMG 7161 RR’ e ‘V - TOP RR’) cultivados em Lavras e Incofidentes, ambos em Minas Gerais. Na ocasião da colheita determinou-se a altura de plantas, o acamamento, a inserção do primeiro legume, o índice de colheita, o número de vagens por planta, o número de grãos, o número de grãos por vagem e a produtividade. Independentemente da cultivar de soja, a densidade de plantas de até 600.000 por ha, não afeta o rendimento de grãos, altura da planta, acamamento, índice de colheita e número de grãos por vagem. As cultivares ‘V-TOP RR’ e ‘BMX FORÇA RR’ apresentaram alto rendimento de grãos e boas características agronômicas em Lavras e Incofidentes.

ABSTRACT: Plants density in soybean cultivation is an important management practice to achieve high grain yield. In this way, the objective was to evaluate the agronomic traits and grain yield in soybean in different plant densities, in two locations in the south of Minas Gerais. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, arranged in a split plot design, with three replications. Plots were composed of four population densities (300, 400, 500 and 600 thousand plants per hectare) and the subplots were composed of six cultivars (‘BMX Força RR’, ‘CD 250 RR’, ‘FMT 08 - 60.346/1’, ‘NA 5909 RR’, ‘TMG 7161 RR’ and ‘V - TOP RR’) grown in Lavras and Inconfidentes, both in Minas Gerais. At the time of harvest was determined the plant height, lodging, insertion of the first pod, harvest index, number of pods per plant, number of grains, number of grains per pod and yield. Regardless of the soybean cultivar, the plant density of up to 600,000 per ha does not affect grain yield, plant height, lodging, harvest index, and number of grains per pod. The cultivars ‘V-TOP RR’ and ‘BMX FORÇA RR’ showed high grain yield and good agronomic traits in Lavras and Incofidentes.

O trabalho foi desenvolvido com os objetivos de testar, dentre vários extratores de micronutrientes do solo, qual é o mais adequado para avaliar a disponibilidade de Mn em solos sob sistema de semeadura direta (SSD); estudar, com auxílio da ressonância paramagnética eletrônica (RPE), a interação do Mn com os ácidos húmicos (AH) de solos de locais com e sem constatações de deficiência desse nutriente, e avaliar em quais das frações do solo (trocável, orgânica, óxido e residual) estava ligado o Mn, após sua aplicação no solo. Quatro locais foram selecionados para o estudo (Local I: Faz. Santa Rosa; II e III: Faz. Novo Horizonte e IV: Campo Experimental da Fundação ABC). Os Locais I, II e III situam-se em Tibagi, PR, e o Local IV, em Castro (PR). De modo geral, as doses de Mn aplicadas elevaram os teores de Mn nos solos, mas a concentração e a quantidade de Mn acumuladas pelas plantas de soja foram pouco influenciadas. Os teores de Mn nas frações trocável, orgânica e óxido das amostras do Local I aumentaram com as doses de Mn aplicadas no solo, tendo a maior elevação ocorrido na fração orgânica. Nessa fração, os teores aumentaram de 5,4 mg kg-1, na testemunha, para 35,1 mg kg-1, com a aplicação da maior dose. Os sinais de Mn não foram detectados por RPE nas amostras sólidas de AH (pH 3,0). A quantificação de Mn nessas amostras, após digestão nítrico-perclórica, juntamente com a observação de Mn por RPE, em amostras de AH em solução (pH 2,4), confirmou a hipótese de que o Mn presente nas amostras de AH estava na forma de ligações muito estáveis com os grupos funcionais (provavelmente carboxílicos) do AH. A ausência de efeito do Mn na produtividade da soja pode ser devida à complexação do nutriente pela MO. De forma geral, o DTPA-TEA foi o extrator mais adequado na avaliação da disponibilidade de Mn à soja.

This field study had the following objectives: to determine the most appropriate micronutrient extractor to evaluate manganese bioavailability in soils under no-tillage; to evaluate the interaction of soil manganese with humic acids in soils under no-tillage with and without manganese deficiency through electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR); and to evaluate manganese fractions (exchangeable, organic, oxides and residual) after manganese addition in soils under no-tillage with and without previous manganese deficiency for soybean. Four sites (I to IV) were selected to study the response curve to manganese (0 to 48 kg ha-1) fertilization in soybean. Sites I to III were located in Tibagi, state of Paraná (PR), Brazil and site IV was in Castro (PR). Manganese rates affected the manganese concentrations in the soil, but not the manganese concentrations in leaves and the amount of manganese taken up by plants. Exchangeable, organic and oxide forms of manganese increased with the increasing rates applied at site I, with the largest increase being observed for the organic fraction (changed from 5.4 mg kg-1 manganese in the control to 35.1 mg kg-1 of manganese in the highest manganese dose). Manganese was not detected by EPR in the solid samples of humic acid - pH 3.0. Manganese quantification in the same samples after nitric-perchloric digestion, along clear signals of manganese detected by EPR in samples of humic acid - pH 2.4, indicated that manganese in the samples was strongly linked to the functional (probably carboxylic) groups of humic acid. The fact that there was no effect of manganese on soybean yield might be due to the complexation of the nutrient by soil organic matter. In general, DTPA-TEA was the most reliable manganese extractor to evaluate manganese availability to soybean under no-tillage.

O aumento das áreas cultivadas no Brasil sob sistema de semeadura direta (SSD) vem ocorrendo principalmente devido às melhorias na disponibilidade de água e de nutrientes às plantas. Entretanto, poucos estudos têm sido realizados sobre o efeito da calagem nos atributos eletroquímicos dos solos cultivados sob SSD. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar o efeito da calagem (na superfície do solo e incorporada a 0,2 m) no pH do solo, no ponto de efeito salino nulo (PESN), no potencial elétrico, no teor de matéria orgânica do solo (MOS) e na produtividade de soja e milho cultivados em um Latossolo Vermelho com 12 anos sob SSD. As doses de calcário aplicadas na superfície representaram 1/3, 2/3 e o total da quantidade calculada para elevar a saturação por bases a 70% (2500 kg ha-1). Avaliou-se um tratamento adicional, constituído pela maior dose, incorporada na camada de 0 a 0,2 m. Houve efeito pouco pronunciado da calagem nos valores de PESN, provavelmente devido às pequenas doses de calcário utilizadas. O conteúdo de MOS decresceu com o aumento das doses de calcário, sendo que a maior variação ocorreu entre a testemunha e a dose incorporada. Não ocorreu efeito claro desse abaixamento da MOS nos valores do PESN. A falta de interação entre as doses de calcário e as profundidades de coleta do solo contribuiu para esta situação, porque o efeito da MOS foi diluído, uma vez que os valores de PESN eram médios das profundidades (0-0,1; 0,1-0,2 and 0,2-0,3 m). O potencial elétrico e as produtividades de soja e milho não variaram com as doses de calcário.

No tillage areas are increasing in Brazil especially due to a general improvement in water and nutrient availability to plants. Few results have reported the effect of liming on soil electrochemical attributes in areas under the no tillage system. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of liming (at the soil surface and incorporated to 0.2 m) on soil pH, point of zero salt effect (PZSE), electric potential, soil organic matter (SOM), and yield of soybean and corn, cultivated on an Typic Hapludox, submitted 12 years to no tillage. Rates of lime of 1/3, 2/3 and the total amount calculated for soil to reach a base saturation of 70 % (2.5 ton ha-1) were applied on soil surface. The full rate was also applied and incorporated to the 0.2 m depth. The effect of liming on PZSE was low due, most likely, to the low lime rates used in the experiment. SOM contents decreased as rates of applied lime increased, with the highest variation occurring between the control and the full rate of lime when incorporated. No clear effect of the lower values of SOM was observed in the PZSE values. The lack of interaction among lime rates and soil depth contributed for this situation, once the effect of SOM was diluted when considering the values of PZSE as the average for the soil layers (0-0.1; 0.1-0.2 and 0.2-0.3 m). There was no variation in the soil electric potential and in the yield of soybean and corn as a function of lime rates.
