RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar o desenvolvimento psicomotor e o controle motor fino de crianças e adolescentes institucionalizados e não institucionalizados em abrigo. Métodos: Estudo transversal, no qual participaram 54 indivíduos, divididos em dois grupos: 27 crianças e adolescentes institucionalizados em abrigo (GA) e 27 crianças e adolescentes não institucionalizados (GC) em abrigo. Para avaliação do desenvolvimento e controle motor, foram utilizadas a bateria psicomotora e o software Aprendizagem e Controle Motor. Foi realizada a análise de variância para os dois grupos com medidas repetidas para o último fator. Resultados: O GA apresentou pontuação total do desenvolvimento inferior ao GC, com diferença na tonicidade (p=0,041) e noção corporal (p=0,039). A maior distância percorrida encontrada foi na Tarefa 1 (M=984,9 pixels; com reta diagonal; distância de 930,053 pixels), sem diferença entre os grupos (p=0,64). Além disso, o GA apresentou tempo médio da Tarefa 1 (M=16,1 segundos) superior às Tarefas 2 (M=11,6 segundos; reta horizontal; distância de 750 pixels) e 3 (M=10,6 segundos; reta vertical; distância de 550 pixels), mas apenas marginalmente diferente entre as Tarefas 2 e 3 (p=0,055). Já em relação ao número de acertos, o GC apresentou mais acertos (M=6,1) comparado ao GA (M=4,6), com p<0,05. Conclusões: Os indivíduos institucionalizados apresentaram desenvolvimento psicomotor inferior ao GC, além de comprometimento no controle motor fino com maior distância percorrida na tarefa que exigia o movimento em diagonal, maior tempo na execução, menos acertos e mais erros.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the psychomotor development and the fine motor control of institutionalized and non-institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study in which 54 subjects participated and were divided into two groups: 27 institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents (SG) and 27 non-institutionalized sheltered children and adolescents (CG). The psychomotor battery and the Learning and Motor Control software were used to evaluate development and motor control. The analysis of variance was performed for both groups with repetitive measurements for the last factor. Results: The SG presented a total development score inferior to the CG, with differences in tonicity (p=0.041) and body awareness (p=0.039). The longest distance was performed on Task 1 (M=983.9 pixels; diagonal line; distance of 930.053 pixels), with no difference between the groups (p=0.64). Furthermore, the SG presented a greater average time in Task 1 (M=16.12 seconds) when compared with Tasks 2 (M=11.6 seconds; horizontal line; distance of 750 pixels) and 3 (M=10.6; vertical line; distance of 550 pixels), but only marginally different between Tasks 2 and 3 (p=0.055). Regarding the number of correct answers, the CG scored more (M=6.1) when compared with SG (M=4.6), with p<0.05. Conclusions: The institutionalized individuals showed a psychomotor development inferior to the CG. Furthermore, they presented impairment in fine motor control, covering a larger distance on the task that required the diagonal movement, longer execution time, less correct answers, and more errors.

RESUMO O traumatismo cranioencefálico (TCE) é um problema de saúde pública com muitos casos de mortalidade e repercussões socioeconômicas. Este estudo visa investigar a influência da gravidade do TCE no tempo de ventilação mecânica (VM) e hospitalização, e na prevalência de casos de traqueostomia, pneumonia, neurocirurgia e morte. É um estudo retrospectivo e observacional, que avaliou prontuários de 67 pacientes com TCE na Irmandade Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo. A gravidade foi avaliada pela escala de Glasgow (ECG): leve (13-15 pontos; 36 pacientes; 53.7%); moderado (9-12 pontos; 14 pacientes; 20.9%); ou grave (3-8 pontos; 17 pacientes; 25.4%). Pacientes com TCE grave apresentaram maior prevalência de traqueostomia, pneumonia e neurocirurgia. Não houve diferença significativa entre gravidade do TCE, óbito e tempo em VM, apesar de a gravidade do TCE ter influenciado o tempo de hospitalização. A gravidade do TCE na admissão, avaliada pela ECG, influenciou a prevalência de traqueostomia, pneumonia, neurocirurgia e de maiores tempos de internação.

ABSTRACT Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a public health problem with high mortality and socioeconomic repercussions. We aimed to investigate the influence of TBI severity on the length of mechanical ventilation (MV) stay and length of hospital stay and on the prevalence of tracheostomy, pneumonia, neurosurgery and death. This retrospective, observational study evaluated medical records of 67 patients with TBI admitted to Irmandade da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo. Severity was determined according to the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS): mild (13-15 points; 36 patients; 53.7%), moderate (9-12 points; 14 patients; 20.9%) or severe (3-8 points; 17 patients; 25.4%). Severe TBI patients had higher prevalence of tracheostomy, pneumonia and neurosurgery. No significant differences were observed between TBI severity, mortality and length of MV stay. However, TBI severity influenced the length of hospital stay. TBI severity at admission, evaluated according to the GCS, influenced the prevalence of tracheostomy, pneumonia, neurosurgery and was associated to prolonged hospital stay.

RESUMEN El traumatismo craneoencefálico (TCE) es un problema de salud pública con alta mortalidad y repercusiones socioeconómicas. Este estudio ha tenido el objetivo de investigar la influencia de la gravedad del TCE en el tiempo de ventilación mecánica (VM) y de hospitalización y en la prevalencia de traqueotomía, neumonía, neurocirugía y mortalidad. Este estudio retrospectivo, observacional ha evaluado historias clínicas de 67 pacientes con TCE admitidos en Irmandade Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo. La gravedad ha sido evaluada por la escala de Glasgow (ECG): leve (13-15 puntos; 36 pacientes; el 53,7%), moderado (9-12 puntos; 14 pacientes; el 20,9%) o grave (3-8 puntos; 17 pacientes; el 25,4%). Pacientes con TCE grave han presentado prevalencia más grande de traqueotomía, neumonía y neurocirugía. No ha habido diferencia significativa entre la gravedad del TCE, la mortalidad y el tiempo en VM; mientras tanto, la gravedad del TCE ha influenciado el tiempo de hospitalización. La gravedad del TCE en la admisión, que ha sido evaluada por la ECG, ha influenciado la prevalencia de traqueotomía, neumonía, neurocirugía y ha sido asociada la internación prolongada.

OBJECTIVE: When children participate in research protocols, consent (by a parent or legal guardian) and assent (by the children) must be given. Understanding research protocols can be challenging for an adult and even more difficult for a child. The aim of this study was to describe the development of a comic book created to facilitate children’s understanding of informed assent with clear and simple language. METHODS: Five researchers with scores above seven according to the Fehring criteria developed the comic book, avoiding the use of technical terminology. Twenty children between 7 and 12 years old, and enrolled in a larger study, responded using a Likert scale and questions about the clarity of texts and illustrations. The final version met National Health System Resolutions (Resoluções do Conselho Nacional da Saúde - CNS n° 196/1996 and 466/2012). RESULTS: The comic book assent presents a short story containing information about a real study: the invitation to participate, objectives, methods, instruments, procedures, risks, benefits, and the researchers’ contact information. Most of the participants answered that they perceived the content of the text to be “Excellent” (40%) and “Very good” (40%), and the illustrations were perceived as “Excellent” (45%) and “Very good” (55%). CONCLUSION: The construction of a simple and clear model of informed assent is possible, and this model should be used in experiments with children.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a competência motora em escolares de baixo nível socioeconômico e comparar os resultados entre os sexos e faixas etárias. Participaram 529 crianças entre 3 e 10 anos de idade matriculadas em escolas públicas na região Leste da cidade de São Paulo. A competência motora foi avaliada por meio do Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) e as análises usaram dados brutos e padronizados (percentis). Foi realizada a comparação do desempenho entre sexos e faixas etárias por meio da análise de variância de 2 fatores e o teste qui-quadrado foi utilizado para comparar a proporção de crianças nos três níveis de classificação (percentil <15, CM muito baixa; 15-30, CM baixa; >30, CM normal). Considerando a classificação original do TGMD-2, 76,4% das meninas e 70,5% dos meninos apresentaram competência motora muito abaixo do esperado para a idade (percentil < 15) e em ambos os sexos houve queda estatisticamente significante nos percentis de classificação nas idades mais avançadas. Esses resultados sugerem que, possivelmente, a qualidade dos estímulos ambientais atualmente disponíveis a essas crianças não seja suficiente para o desenvolvimento da competência motora.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to assess motor competence in children from low socioeconomic status and compare results between sexes and age groups. The study included 529 children enrolled in public schools in the eastern region of São Paulo. The Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) was used to assess MC, considering the raw scores and the standard scores (percentiles). The comparison of performance between genders in different age groups was performed using analysis of variance of two factors and chi-square test was used to compare the percentiles distribution (<15, very low MC, 15-30, low MC;> 30, normal MC) between the sexes in different age groups,. In both genders, there were a statistically significant decrease in percentiles classification at older ages. Considering the original classification of the TGMD-2, 76.4% of girls and 70.5% of boys presented a motor competence much lower than expected for age (percentile <15) and in both genders there were a statistically significant decrease in percentiles classification at older ages. These results suggests that it is possible that the quality of environmental stimuli currently available to these children is not sufficient for the development of motor competence.

Resumo Introdução: Crianças e adolescentes institucionalizados podem apresentar comprometimentos do desenvolvimento motor; das funções cognitiva, da fala, da compreensão; alterações psicológicas e hiperatividade, que podem ser prejudiciais para a aprendizagem motora. Objetivo: Analisar a aprendizagem motora de crianças e adolescentes institucionalizados em abrigo e comparar com indivíduos em contexto familiar. Métodos: Foram avaliados 36 indivíduos divididos em 2 grupos: grupo experimental, composto por crianças e adolescentes institucionalizados (GE, n=18) e grupo controle (GC, n =18), pareados por sexo e idade. Para avaliação da aprendizagem motora foi utilizada a tarefa de labirinto realizada em três fases: aquisição, retenção e transferência. Para análise dos dados foram utilizados os testes de Shapiro Wilk, Wilcoxon, Mann Whitney, Kruskal Wallis e pós-teste de Dunn (p < 5%). Resultados: O GE obteve maior tempo para execução da tarefa comparado com o GC. Houve diminuição significativa do tempo de execução da tarefa, do primeiro bloco (GE= 11,05 [8,50-14,85]s; GC:7,65 [5,95-10,23]s) para o último bloco da aquisição (GE:8,02 [6,86-10,23]s; GC: 5,50 [4,50-6,82]s) em ambos os grupos. Ao comparar as variáveis entre o último bloco da aquisição (GE:8,02[6,86-10,23]s; GC: 5,50[4,50-6,82]s), retenção (GE:8,20[7,09-9,89]s; GC:5,35[4,50-6,22]s) e transferência (GE:8,30[6,28-11,43]s; GC:5,30[4,90-6,82]s) em cada grupo, foi encontrada a manutenção do tempo para execução da tarefa durante as fases. Conclusão: Os indivíduos institucionalizados em abrigo apresentaram um déficit na aprendizagem motora, verificada pelo maior tempo de execução da tarefa comparado aos indivíduos não institucionalizados, porém ambos evoluem de maneira semelhante durante a realização da tarefa.

Abstract Introduction: Children and adolescents living in shelters may present with impaired motor development, cognitive function, as well as speech and understanding; psychological alterations; and hyperactivity. All of these factors may be detrimental to motor learning. Objective: To investigate motor learning in children and adolescents living in shelters, and to compare it with that of individuals living in a family context. Methods: We assessed 36 individuals who were divided into groups: an experimental group, composed of institutionalized children and adolescents (EG, n=18), and a control group (CG, n = 18) that was matched by age and sex. Motor learning was assessed using a maze test in three stages: acquisition, retention and transfer. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk, Wilcoxon, Mann Whitney, Kruskal Wallis tests and Dunn’s post-test (p < 5%). Results: The EG had a longer task performance time than the CG. There was a significant reduction in task performance time between the first (EG = 11.05 [8.50-14.85]s; CG:7.65 [5.95-10.23]s) and the last task performance block (EG:8.02 [6.86-10.23]s; GC: 5.50 [4.50-6.82]s) in both groups. When comparing the variables of the last acquisition (GE:8.02[6.86-10.23]s; GC: 5.50[4.50-6.82]s), retention (GE:8.20[7.09-9.89]s;GC:5.35[4.50-6.22]s) and transfer blocks (GE:8.30[6.28-11.43]s; GC:5.30[4.90-6.82]s) in each group, we found no changes in task performance time between test batteries. Conclusion: Individuals living in shelters showed a motor learning deficit, as evidenced by longer task performance time when compared to their controls. Nevertheless, both groups performed the task in a similar manner.

RESUMO O Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) é uma desordem do desenvolvimento neurológico caracterizada principalmente por déficits na interação social, comunicação e aprendizagem de habilidades implícitas. OBJETIVO: Analisar os resultados da pesquisa sobre "aprendizagem motora" e suas formas de mensurar na "desordem autista". MÉTODOS: Uma pesquisa bibliográfica sistemática foi feita usando Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, BVS (biblioteca virtual de saúde) e PsycINFO. Incluímos artigos que mostraram as palavras-chave "autismo" e "aprendizagem motora". As variáveis consideradas foram os aspectos metodológicos; os resultados apresentados e a qualidade metodológica dos estudos. RESULTADOS: Um total de 42 artigos foram identificados; foram excluídos 33 artigos porque não atendiam aos critérios de inclusão. Os dados foram extraídos de nove estudos elegíveis e resumidos. CONCLUSÃO: Concluímos que, embora as pessoas com TEA tenham demonstrado dificuldades de desempenho em diferentes tarefas de aprendizagem motora de memória, a aquisição de habilidades ocorre nessa população; No entanto, essa aquisição de habilidades está relacionada a eventos heterogêneos, ocorrendo sem a consciência dos indivíduos.

ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder primarily characterized by deficits in social interaction, communication and implicit skill learning. OBJECTIVE: To analyse the results of research on "motor learning" and the means used for measuring "autistic disorder". METHODS: A systematic literature search was done using Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, BVS (virtual health library), and PsycINFO. We included articles that contained the keywords "autism" and "motor learning". The variables considered were the methodological aspects; results presented, and the methodological quality of the studies. RESULTS: A total of 42 studies were identified; 33 articles were excluded because they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Data were extracted from nine eligible studies and summarized. CONCLUSION: We concluded that although individuals with ASD showed performance difficulties in different memory and motor learning tasks, acquisition of skills still takes place in this population; however, this skill acquisition is related to heterogeneous events, occurring without the awareness of the individual.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar o perfil antropométrico, o nível de atividade física e a postura em universitários da área da saúde. Este é um estudo transversal envolvendo 100 estudantes de uma universidade na Zona Oeste de São Paulo. Peso, altura, circunferência da cintura e índice de massa corporal foram coletados. Também foram aplicados o Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física, o Inventário de Ansiedade Traço-Estado e o Instrumento de Avaliação Postural. Os resultados deste estudo mostram que 67% dos estudantes têm IMC médio de 22,12±4,84 kg/m² e 38% são regularmente ativos. Acerca dos níveis de ansiedade, a amostra obtida (média IDATE E 40,6 pontos e IDATE T 40,05) pode ser classificada como moderada. Além disso, 50% da amostra tem concavidade lombar. Portanto, a maioria dos estudantes demonstrou valores antropométricos normais, eram regularmente ativos, tinham nível moderado de ansiedade e nenhum defeito na postura corporal.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the anthropometric profile, level of physical activity, anxiety level, and posture of graduate students in the health field. This is a cross-sectional study involving 100 college students from health courses at a university in the western state of São Paulo. Weight, height, waist circumference, and body mass index data were collected. We also applied the International Physical Activity Questionnaire for physical activity; the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for anxiety; and the Postural Assessment Instrument for postural defects. The results of this study show that 67% of students have an average BMI of 22.12±4.84 kg/m², and 38% are regularly active. Regarding anxiety levels, the sample obtained (mean STAI E 40.6 points and STAI T 40.05) can be classified as moderate. In addition, 50% of the sample have lumbar concavity. Therefore, most health care university students displayed normal anthropometric values, were regularly active, had a moderate level of anxiety and had no postural defects.

RESUMEN El objectivo de este estudio fue evaluar perfil antropométrico, nivel de actividad física, grado de ansiedad y postura de estudiantes universitarios de la salud. Este es un estudio transversal de observación envolviendo 100 estudiantes universitarios de cursos de la salud en una universidad del Oeste del estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Datos como peso, altura, circunferencia de la cintura y índice de masa corporal (IMC) fueron recogidos. Nosotros también aplicamos el Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física para actividad física; el Inventario de Ansiedad Trazo-Estado (Idate) para ansiedad; y el Instrumento de Evaluación Postural para defectos de postura. Los resultados de este estudio mostraron que 67% de los estudiantes tienen IMC medio de 22.12±4.84 kg/m² y 38% son regularmente activos. Considerándose los grados de ansiedad, el ejemplo obtenido (Idate-E de 40,6 puntos y Idate-T de 40,05) puede ser clasificado como moderado. Además, 50% de los estudiantes del ejemplo presenta concavidad lumbar. Por lo tanto, la mayoría de los estudiantes de la salud analizados presentan valores antropométricos normales, son regularmente activos, tienen grado moderado de ansiedad y no presentan defectos posturales.

With the present study, we aimed to investigate the task complexity effects on the performance of a coincidence timing task in individuals with Down syndrome. The experimental group was consisted by 26 subjects with Down syndrome, 20 years old (± 5), and classified as mild or moderate in International Classification of Functioning and Health. Each participant in the experimental group was matched by in function of gender and age with a participant in a control group without Down syndrome. Both groups performed a coincident timing task, in which the participant had different levels of structural and functional complexity. Performance measure was derived from the consistency (absolute error), accuracy (variable error) and direction of response (constant error). Individuals with Down syndrome presented spatiotemporal organization impairments related to the difficulty in dealing with motor demand in order to interact with the perceptive demand. They also experienced difficulty in adapt to task complexity, causing performance error in the task. Individuals with Down syndrome have deficits in perceptive and space-time organization, and this phenomenon may be explained by the difficulty in integrating perceptive stimulus to motor actions with a high number of elements involved.

OBJETIVO: o objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a prevalência de pessoas com excesso de peso, e relacionar hábitos alimentares e níveis de atividade física em escolares de 7 a 13 anos de escolas públicas de uma cidade de São Paulo, e comparar os hábitos alimentares e níveis de atividade física dos alunos com seus pais. TIPO DE ESTUDO: Esta pesquisa é do tipo transversal de caráter observacional. MÉTODO: Oitenta e duas crianças de ambos os sexos, com idade de 07 a 13, foram avaliadas, dados antropométricos foram recolhidos e índice de massa corpórea por idade foi classificada pelo SISVAN, juntamente com a aplicação de um questionário para análise dos níveis de atividade física e perfis alimentares dos estudantes e dos pais. RESULTADOS: A análise dos dados foi realizada com os testes de Kolmogorov-Smirnov, teste-t pareado e Mann Whitney; para a análise de correlação, os testes de Spearman ou de Pearson foram realizadas. Adotou-se nível de significância de 5%. Neste estudo, metade dos estudantes tinham excesso de peso e apresentavam a circunferência abdominal aumentada. Observou-se também que melhores hábitos alimentares associavam-se a maior nível de atividade física. Os estudantes consumiam mais alimentos fritos, doces e frutas, além de se alimentarem em maior quantidade do que seus pais; dentre estes, poucos realizavam atividade física regular. CONCLUSÕES: O excesso de peso foi encontrado em metade dos alunos avaliados numa pequena cidade com alto Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano. Verificou-se também que os meninos apresentaram maior nível de atividade física, número de refeições e menor ingestão de doces. Além disso, observou-se que os melhores hábitos alimentares estavam associados ao nível de atividade física.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the prevalence of overweight in students aged 7 to 13 years in public schools in a city in the state of São Paulo; to compare the eating habits and physical activity levels of the students with those of their parents; to relate eating habits and physical activity levels to gender. METHODS: This was a transverse observational study. Eighty-two children of both genders, aged 7 - 13 years, were evaluated, anthropometric data collected and body mass index for age was classified as per the Brazilian Ministry of Health "Food and Nutrition Monitoring System" (SISVAN); concurrently we applied a questionnaire for the analysis of physical activity levels and eating profiles for students and their parents. Data were analyzed through Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, unpaired Student t test or Mann Whitney; for correlation analysis, we employed the Spearman or Pearson tests. RESULTS: In this study, half of the students were found to be overweight, with an increased abdominal circumference. We also observed that better eating habits correlated with greater physical activity. Students consumed more fried food, sweets and fruit and ate more often than their parents; few of these parents regularly perform physical activity. CONCLUSIONS: Excess weight has been found in half of the students evaluated in a small town with a high Human Development Index. It was also found that boys presented higher level of physical activity, number of meals and lower sweet intake. Furthermore, it was observed that better eating habits were associated with the level of physical activity.

RESUMO Distrofia muscular de Duchenne (DMD) é uma doença recessiva ligada ao X, caracterizada por fraqueza muscular progressiva. Historicamente a dor não foi considerada como um dos principais sintomas em DMD. Objetivo Investigar a relação entre DMD e dor. Métodos Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática nas bases de dados Medline/PubMed e BVS (Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde). Foram incluídos na busca artigos que mostravam os termos “Distrofia Muscular de Duchenne” e “Dor” em todos os campos. Todos os estudos incluíram meninos diagnosticados com DMD e a ocorrência/intensidade da dor nesta população. Resultados Inicialmente, havia 175 estudos. 167 artigos foram excluídos por não preencherem os critérios de inclusão. Então, 8 estudos elegíveis, envolvendo a avaliação da dor em DMD, foram analisados. Conclusão A dor é um problema frequente nesta população e esse sintoma é potencialmente tratável. Estudos concluíram que a dor pode influenciar diretamente a qualidade de vida dessa população.

ABSTRACT Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked recessive disorder, characterized by progressive muscle weakness. Historically, pain has not been considered to be a major symptom in DMD. Objective To investigate the relationship between DMD and pain. Methods We conducted a systematic review in Medline/PubMed and BVS (virtual library in health) databases. We searched for articles that showed the terms “Muscular Dystrophy, Duchenne” and “Pain” in all fields. All studies included boys diagnosed with DMD and the occurrence/amount of pain on this population. Results Initially, there were 175 studies. 167 articles were excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria. The remaining eight eligible studies, involving pain assessment in DMD, were analyzed. Conclusion Pain is a frequent problem in this population and this symptom is potentially tractable. Studies conclude that pain can directly influence the quality of life of this population.

INTRODUÇÃO: O Declínio da função física é uma característica comum de idade avançada e tem consequências importantes em termos de saúde física e qualidade de vida. Nossa capacidade de aprendizagem motora nos permite adaptar movimentos a um ambiente em constante mudança. A expressão Realidade Virtual refere-se a uma ampla variedade de métodos usados para simular uma alternativa ao mundo virtual. OBJETIVO: Analisar os resultados apresentados em estudos anteriores sobre aprendizagem motora com o uso de Realidade Virtual em participantes idosos. MÉTODO: Para selecionar os artigos, três etapas foram seguidas. Uma revisão sistemática da literatura foi realizada sem limitação de tempo. A pesquisa foi realizada utilizando PubMed, BVS e Web os Science; considerando-se as palavras-chave, incluímos artigos que apresentaram os três seguintes termos:, realidade virtual idosos e aprendizagem motora. RESULTADOS: A busca inicial rendeu 49 artigos. Depois da remoção de duplicações, dois dos autores avaliaram independentemente o título e o resumo de cada artigo em relação aos critérios de inclusão do estudo. Destes, 45 artigos foram excluídos com base no título e resumo. Finalmente, quatro artigos preencheram os critérios de inclusão. CONCLUSÃO: Embora poucos estudos foram encontrados sobre a aprendizagem motora em pessoas idosas através da realidade virtual e, menos ainda eram de boa qualidade, foi mostrado que as pessoas idosas, com ou sem uma doença específica, podem se beneficiar de intervenções com base na realidade virtual para melhorar a habilidades de aprendizagem motora.

INTRODUCTION: Decline in physical function is a common feature of older age and has important outcomes in terms of physical health as it relates to quality of life. Our capacity for motor learning allows us to flexibly adapt movements to an ever-changing environment. The term Virtual Reality refers to a wide variety of methods used to simulate an alternative or virtual world. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the results shown in previous studies on motor learning with Virtual Reality use in elderly participants. METHOD: To select the articles, three steps were followed. A systematic literature review was performed without time limitation. The research was carried out using PubMed, BVS and Web of science; considering the keywords, we included articles that showed the following three terms: elderly, virtual reality and motor learning. RESULTS: The initial search yielded 49 articles. After duplicates were removed, two of the authors independently evaluated the title and abstract of each article against the study inclusion criteria. From these, 45 articles were excluded based on title and abstract. Finally, four articles met the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSION: Although few studies were conducted on motor learning in elderly people through virtual reality and, even fewer were of good quality, it was shown that elderly people, with or without a specific disease, can benefit from interventions based on virtual reality to improve motor learning skills.

OBJETIVO: O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar se os indivíduos com síndrome de Down melhoram o desempenho em uma tarefa de labirinto virtual usando um telefone celular. MÉTODO: Para esta tarefa, foram avaliados 30 adolescentes e adultos jovens, onde 15 eram parte do grupo experimental e 15 do grupo controle. RESULTADOS: Os resultados mostraram que ambos os grupos apresentavam uma melhoria significativa ao longo do tempo nas fases de aquisição e de retenção. Na fase de transferência, eles foram capazes de manter o desempenho, permitindo uma adaptação da fase de estabilização, que caracteriza a aprendizagem de motora. CONCLUSÃO: Comparando os dois grupos, os indivíduos com SD tem necessidade de um tempo maior para completar o labirinto em todas as fases da tarefa.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to verify if individuals with Down syndrome have improved performance in completing a virtual maze task using a mobile phone. METHOD: For this task, 30 teenagers and young adults were evaluated, 15 Down syndrome patients and 15 typically developed controls. The execution of the task was to play a maze on a mobile phone. The subjects performed 30 repetitions of the maze game in the acquisition phase, five repetitions for retention and five for transfer phase. A repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare blocks (first and last - A1 - A6 acquisition blocks, retention A6 - R and transfer A6 - T) and Groups (Down syndrome and typical development). RESULTS: The results showed that both groups had significant improvement over time in the acquisition phase, the retention and transfer tests showed that there was performance consolidation for both groups, but with longer movement time in the Down syndrome group. CONCLUSION: Comparing the two groups, individuals with Down syndrome required more time to run the maze in all phases of the task.

RESUMO Indivíduos com paralisia cerebral apresentam distúrbios motores complexos, o principal sendo um déficit de tônus muscular, que afeta a postura e o movimento; observam-se alterações de equilíbrio e coordenação motora, diminuição de força e perda de controle motor seletivo com problemas secundários de contratura e deformidade óssea. Esta população pode ter dificuldades na aprendizagem de habilidades motoras. O aprendizado de habilidades resulta de exposição repetida e de prática. Devido ao aumento do uso de realidade virtual no processo de reabilitação e a importância do desenvolvimento motor na aprendizagem de indivíduos com paralisia cerebral, há necessidade de estudos nesta área. O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar os resultados mostrados em estudos anteriores de aprendizagem motora com realidade virtual em pacientes com paralisia cerebral. Inicialmente, 40 estudos foram encontrados, mas 30 artigos foram excluídos por não preencherem os critérios de inclusão. Os dados extraídos dos dez estudos elegíveis são apresentados. Os estudos mostraram benefícios da utilização da Realidade Virtual em crianças com paralisia cerebral na função motora grossa e melhorias na aprendizagem motora com a possibilidade de transferir para situações da vida real. Portanto, a realidade virtual parece ser uma alternativa promissora e uma opção estratégica para o atendimento dessas crianças. No entanto, existem poucos estudos sobre aprendizagem motora com realidade virtual. Os benefícios a longo prazo do tratamento com realidade virtual ainda são desconhecidos.

Cerebral palsy is a well-recognized neurodevelopmental condition beginning in early childhood and persisting throughout life. It is considered the most common non-progressive neurological disease of childhood. Subjects with cerebral palsy present complex motor skill disorders, the primary deficits being abnormal muscle tone that affects posture and movement, alterations of balance and of motor coordination, decrease in strength and loss of selective motor control, with secondary issues of contracture and bone deformity. This population may have difficulties in motor skill learning processes. Skill learning is learning as a result of repeated exposure and practice. Due to the increasing use of virtual reality in rehabilitation and the significance of motor development learning of subjects with cerebral palsy, we have recognized the need for studies in this area. The purpose of this study was to investigate the results of previous studies on motor learning using virtual reality with patients with cerebral palsy. Initially, 40 studies were found, but 30 articles were excluded, as they did not fulfil the inclusion criteria. The data extracted from the ten eligible studies is summarized. The studies showed benefits from the use of virtual reality in children with cerebral palsy in gross motor function and improvements in motor learning with skill transfer to real-life situations. Therefore, virtual reality seems to be a promising resource and a strategic option for care of these children. However, there are few studies about motor learning with virtual reality use. The long term benefits of virtual reality therapy are still unknown.

INTRODUÇÃO: A força de preensão manual é a capacidade da mão em realizar tarefas, imprimir forças e segurar objetos. Dentre os diversos esportes que utilizam a força de preensão manual com predominância em sua prática, um deles é o judô, aonde a força de preensão manual é imprescindível para que o judoca consiga se impor ao adversário, pois está ligada à capacidade de realização do golpe. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a força de preensão manual em atletas de judô.MÉTODOS: O estudo contou com a participação de 30 judocas, sendo formado por 15 faixas brancas e 15 faixas pretas, que foram submetidos a uma avaliação da força de preensão com um dinamômetro manual da marca Jamar(r). Foi utilizada a estatística descritiva (média e desvio-padrão) para análise dos dados antropométricos, o teste tde Student para verificação da homogeneidade entre os grupos e o Teste de Shapiro-Wilk para verificação da distribuição. Para análise de comparação intra e intergrupos foi utilizado o Teste de Mann-Whitney para amostras independentes (p≤0,05). Os dados foram analisados através do software BioEstat 5.0.RESULTADOS: Os resultados demonstraram que os judocas faixas pretas apresentam uma força de preensão palmar significativamente maior na mão dominante em relação à não dominante, e também significativamente maior em relação aos atletas de faixas brancas tanto na mão dominante quanto na mão não dominante.CONCLUSÃO: Atletas de judô faixas pretas têm preensão manual mais forte do que os atletas de faixas brancas, sugerindo que quanto maior o tempo de prática esportiva na modalidade, maior a força de preensão manual em ambas as mãos.

INTRODUCTION: Grip strength is the ability of the hand to perform tasks, imprint forces, and hold objects. One of the many sports that make predominant use of handgrip strength is judo, in which the handgrip is essential for enabling the athlete to dominate the opponent, as it is linked to the ability to strike a blow. This study assesses handgrip strength in judo athletes.METHODS: The study involved the participation of 30 judo athletes: 15 white belts and 15 black belts, who were subjected to a handgrip strength evaluation with a Jamar(r) handgrip dynamometer. Descriptive statistics (average and standard deviation) were used for the analysis of anthropometric data, the Student t test was used to check homogeneity between the groups, and the Shapiro-Wilk test to check the distribution. For the analysis of intra- and intergroup comparison, the Mann-Whitney test was used for independent samples (p ≤ 0.05). The data were presented using the BioEstat 5.0 software.RESULTS: The results showed that the black belt judo athletes had a significantly greater handgrip strength in the dominant hand when compared to the non-dominant hand, and also significantly higher compared to the white belt athletes, in both the dominant and non-dominant hands.CONCLUSION: Black belt judo athletes have stronger handgrip strength than white belt athletes, suggesting that a longer time practicing the sport improves handgrip strength in both hands.

INTRODUCCIÓN: La fuerza de agarre manual es la capacidad de la mano para llevar a cabo las tareas, transmitir fuerzas y sostener objetos. Entre los muchos deportes que utilizan predominantemente el agarre en su práctica, está el judo, en el que la fuerza de agarre de la mano es de extrema importancia para que el judoka yudoca pueda imponerse al adversario, porque está vinculada a la capacidad de realizar el golpe. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la fuerza de agarre manual en los atletas de judo.MÉTODOS: El estudio contó con la participación de 30 judokas, compuesto por 15 cinturones blancos y 15 cinturones negros que fueron objeto de una evaluación de la fuerza de agarre con un dinamómetro de mano de marca Jamar(r). Se utilizó estadística descriptiva (media y desviación estándar) para el análisis de los datos antropométricos, la prueba t de Student para comprobar la homogeneidad entre los grupos y la prueba de Shapiro-Wilk para verificar la distribución. Para el análisis de la comparación intra e intergrupal se utilizó la prueba de Mann-Whitney para muestras independientes (p ≤ 0.05). Los datos se analizaron usando el software BioEstat 5.0.RESULTADOS: Los resultados mostraron que los atletas cinturones negros de judo tienen fuerza de agarre prensión manual significativamente mayor en la mano dominante con respecto a la no dominante, y también significativamente mayor en comparación con los atletas de cinturones blancos en la mano dominante y en la mano no dominante.CONCLUSIÓN: Los atletas de judo cinturones negros tienen agarre más fuerte que los atletas cinturones blancos, lo que sugiere que a mayor tiempo de práctica en el deporte corresponde mayor fuerza de agarre manual.

RESUMO: OBJETIVO: O controle postural do tronco é importante para estabilizar o corpo e gerar força muscular durante atividades esportivas. Quando o tronco está estabilizado, é mais fácil e mais seguro transferir forças aplicadas ao longo do corpo para executar qualquer tarefa motora, porque incrementa-se a ação muscular e reduzem-se as cargas articulares. O controle postural do tronco é importante para estabilizar o corpo inteiro e gerar força muscular durante atividades esportivas. O objetivo deste estudo é verificar a velocidade e direção do movimento do tronco em atletas de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas. MÉTODO: Participaram 26 atletas de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas testados no sistema "NeuroCom Balance Master", através do protocolo "Mudança Rítmica de Carga". Foram convidados a lançar todo o corpo para a direita, esquerda, para frente e para trás. Testes avaliaram esses movimentos em baixa, média e alta velocidade. RESULTADO: A velocidade de movimento foi significativamente afetada pela velocidade e direção da tarefa. A maior velocidade de movimento foi observada para a tarefa rápida na direção esquerda/direita. Não houve interação entre a tarefa e sua direção. CONCLUSÃO: Atletas de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas moveram-se mais rapidamente na direção esquerda/direita. Este resultado sugere que o controle postural para o indivíduo em cadeira de rodas é dependente da direção do movimento.

OBJECTIVE: Postural control of the trunk is important to stabilize the entire body and to generate muscle force during sports activities. When the trunk is stable, it is easier and safer to transfer applied forces along the body to perform any motor task because it enhances muscle action and reduces joint loads. The aim of this study is to verify the velocity and direction of trunk movement in wheelchair basketball athletes. METHOD: Participants were 26 wheelchair basketball athletes, they were tested on the NeuroCom Balance Master System, protocol: Rhythmic Weight Shift. They were asked to sway the entire body to the right, left, forward and backward. Trials evaluated these movements in low, medium and high velocities. RESULT: Movement velocity was very significantly affected by task speed and task direction. The highest movement velocity was observed for the fast task and for the left/right direction. There was no interaction between the task and its direction. CONCLUSION: Wheelchair basketball athletes moved their body faster in the left/right direction. This result suggests that postural control is direction-dependent for the wheelchair-bound individual.
