ABSTRACT. There is a demand for barley cultivars that are suitable for the malt industry as well as genotypes that are stable and better adapted for irrigation in the Cerrado. This study aimed to estimate the genetic parameters by assessing 69 barley genotypes from different countries, from 2012 to 2014, under irrigation in the Cerrado. Six agronomic characteristics were assessed: grain yield, plumpness kernel, thousand seeds weight, plant height, degree of plant lodging and days to heading. Analysis of variance, cluster test and phenotypic, genotypic and environmental correlations were performed. Significant effects were observed for genotypes, years and the G x E interaction. High values of broad-sense heritability (> 86%) were found for all the characteristics, which enabled direct selection. The Colombian accession MCU363PI402112 stood out for its agronomic characteristics. Genotype selection based on the phenotypic evaluations was possible due to their good experimental accuracy and precision. Precocious genotypes with high grain yields and homogeneous grain sizes were selected. Due to the environmental influence on the grain yield, additional studies concerning the components of yield in this environment are necessary to facilitate the selection of more productive genotypes.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar a variabilidade genética de 213 acessos de café conilon, da cultivar Robusta Tropical, quanto às características químicas de qualidade dos grãos de café crus, bem como identificar acessos promissores para o programa de melhoramento do café conilon irrigado no Cerrado. As características químicas avaliadas foram: teores de proteína e cafeína, sólidos solúveis e lipídeos totais, extrato etéreo, pH e acidez titulável total. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de componentes principais e à análise de cluster com base nas semelhanças observadas nos dois primeiros componentes principais, com uso do método de variância mínima (Wards) e da distância Euclidiana, como medida da dissimilaridade. Os três principais componentes explicaram 72,64% da variação total dos dados. Todas as características, exceto o pH, foram correlacionadas com os três primeiros componentes. Foi possível separar os genótipos em três grupos de acordo com as semelhanças no comportamento das variáveis. Os acessos avaliados apresentam variabilidade genética em relação às características de qualidade de grãos avaliadas, e o CPAC 160 e o CPAC 32 são os mais promissores o programa de melhoramento do café conilon irrigado no Cerrado.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to quantify the genetic variability of 213 conilon coffee accessions of the Robusta Tropical cultivar, based on chemical characteristics related to the quality of green coffee beans, as well as to identify promising accessions for the breeding program of irrigated conilon coffee in the Brazilian Cerrado. The chemical characteristics evaluated were: protein and caffeine contents, total soluble solids and total lipids, ether extract, pH, and total titratable acidity. The data were subjected to the principal component analysis and cluster analysis based on the similarities observed within the first two principal components using the minimum variance method (Wards) and, as a measure of similarity, the Euclidean distance. The three main components explained 72.64% of the total variation of the data. All characteristics, except pH, were correlated with the first three components. It was possible to separate the genotypes in three clusters, according to the similarities observed in the behavior of the variables. The evaluated accessions present genetic variability regarding the assessed quality characteristics of green coffee beans, and CPAC 160 and CPAC 32 are the most promising for the breeding program of conilon coffee for cultivation under irrigation in the Cerrado.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar parâmetros genéticos, fenotípicos e ambientais de 113 acessos de cevada (Hordeum vulgare), previamente selecionados com base em alta produtividade, em sistema de produção irrigado no Cerrado, para uso em programas de melhoramento no Brasil. O experimento foi realizado em 2013, em dois locais no Distrito Federal, tendo-se utilizado o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Avaliaram-se as características: rendimento de grãos, classificação comercial de primeira, peso de mil grãos, altura de plantas, acamamento e dias para espigamento. Foram observadas diferenças significativas entre ambientes e acessos para todas as características avaliadas, além de interação genótipo x ambiente. Os acessos MCU 3832 PI 402310, MCU 3484 PI 401962, CI 08053 Custer, MCU 3634 PI 402112 e MCU 3816 PI 402294 destacaram-se em relação ao rendimento de grãos e à classificação comercial de primeira. É possível obter altos ganhos de seleção com altos valores de herdabilidade. No entanto, a seleção indireta não é recomendada nas condições experimentais, em razão das baixas correlações genotípicas e fenotípicas obtidas. Também é possível a seleção simultânea de acessos de cevada com alto rendimento e ciclo de espigamento precoce, fator decisivo no processo de escolha de genótipos para futuros experimentos. Os acessos colombianos são os mais adaptados às condições de Cerrado.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to estimate the genetic, phenotypic, and environmental parameters of 113 barley accessions (Hordeum vulgare), previously selected based on high yield, in an irrigated production system in the Cerrado (Brazilian savanna), for use in breeding programs in Brazil. The experiment was conducted in 2013 at two sites in the Federal District, using a randomized complete block design with three replicates. The evaluated traits were: grain yield, kernel plumpness, thousand grain weight, plant height, lodging, and days to heading. Significant differences were observed between environment and accessions for all studied traits, as well as genotype x environment interaction. The MCU 3832 PI 402310, MCU 3484 PI 401962, CI 08053 Custer, MCU 3634 PI 402112, and MCU 3816 PI 402294 accessions stood out regarding grain yield and kernel plumpness. It is possible to obtain high selection gains with high heritability values. However, indirect selection is not recommended in the experimental conditions due to the low genotypic and phenotypic correlations obtained. It is also possible to select barley accessions with high yield and early heading date simultaneously, an important factor in the genotype selection process for future experiments. The accessions from Colombia are the most adapted to the Cerrado conditions.

RESUMO: Girassol (Helianthus annus L.) é uma cultura anual que se destaca por sua produção de óleo de alta qualidade e para uma seleção eficiente, é necessário estimar os componentes de variância genética e fenotípica. Este trabalho teve por fim estimar parâmetros genéticos, correlações fenotípicas, genotípicas e ambientais e variabilidade genética em girassol no Cerrado, avaliando os caracteres rendimento (REND), dias para a floração (DFI) com base na data de florescimento em R5, tamanho do capítulo (TC), peso de mil aquênios (PMA), altura da planta (ALT) e teor de óleo (ÓLEO), em 16 genótipos de girassol no bioma Cerrado. O experimento foi realizado na área experimental da Embrapa Cerrados, em Planaltina, DF, situada a 15º 35’ 30” de latitude Sul, 47º 42’ 30” de longitude Oeste e a altitude de 1.007m acima do nível do mar, em solo classificado como Latossolo Vermelho distrófico. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. A natureza para os efeitos de genótipos e blocos foi fixa. Com exceção do caráter tamanho de capítulo, a variância genética foi o principal componente da variância fenotípica entre os genótipos, evidenciando alta variabilidade genética e eficiência experimental, com controle correto do ambiente. Em valores absolutos, as correlações genotípicas foram superiores às fenotípicas e ambientais. Os altos valores encontrados para herdabilidade e acurácia seletiva indicam eficiência da seleção fenotípica. Os resultados evidenciam alta variabilidade genética entre os genótipos, o que pode contribuir para o melhoramento genético de girassol.

ABSTRACT: Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an annual crop that stands out for its production of high quality oil and for an efficient selection, being necessary to estimate the components of genetic and phenotypic variance. This study aimed to estimate genetic parameters, phenotypic, genotypic and environmental correlations and genetic variability on sunflower in the Brazilian Savannah, evaluating the characters grain yield (YIELD), days to start flowering (DFL) based on flowering date in R5, chapter length (CL), weight of a thousand achenes (WTA), plant height (H) and oil content (OilC) of 16 sunflower genotypes. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Cerrados, Planaltina, DF, situated at 15º 35’ 30”S latitude, 47º 42’ 30”W longitude and 1.007m above sea level, in soil classified as dystroferric Oxisol. The experimental design used was a complete randomized block with four replicates. The nature for the effects of genotypes and blocks was fixed. Except for the character chapter length, genetic variance was the main component of the phenotypic variance among the genotypes, indicating high genetic variability and experimental efficiency with proper environmental control. In absolute terms, the genetic correlations were superior to phenotypic and environmental. The high values reported for heritability and selective accuracy indicated efficiency of phenotypic selection. Results showed high genetic variability among genotypes, which may contribute to the genetic improvement of sunflower.
