ABSTRACT Detecting and monitoring selectively logged forests can improve the scientific knowledge related to the effects of forest degradation in tropical forests and support the environmental law enforcement of controlling and monitoring those forest activities in the Amazon region. In this study, we analyzed the spatial and temporal dynamics of forests disturbed by selective logging in Pará state, Brazil, using a time series (1992 to 2018) of Landsat images and remote sensing techniques. Forests affected by those activities were mapped using visual interpretation and semi-automatic remote sensing techniques. The results of this study showed that approximately 20% of the forests selectively logged for timber purposes were deforested in the studied area and period. We observed that the total area of forests altered by selective logging exceeded the deforested area in some years of this analysis. There was an increase in selectively logged forests within protected areas (Conservation Units and Indigenous Lands) between 1992 and 2018. Most of the selectively logged forests were spatially located in the region known as the arc of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. RESUMO A detecção e monitoramento de florestas exploradas seletivamente pode melhorar o conhecimento científico relacionado aos efeitos da degradação florestal em florestas tropicais e apoiar a aplicação da lei ambiental de controle e monitoramento dessas atividades florestais na região Amazônica. Neste estudo, foram analisadas a dinâmica espacial e temporal das florestas perturbadas pela exploração seletiva de madeiras no estado do Pará, utilizando uma série temporal (1992 a 2018) de imagens Landsat e técnicas de sensoriamento remoto. Foram mapeadas as florestas afetadas por atividades de exploração seletiva aplicando interpretação visual e técnicas de sensoriamento remoto semiautomática. Resumo A extração seletiva de madeiras é uma atividade florestal que inclui a exploração de um grupo de espécies florestais em florestas nativas, normalmente as de maior valor ou interesse comercial. A extração seletiva de madeiras pode ser executada legalmente, em áreas de manejo e de exploração florestal para desmatamentos autorizados ou, ilegalmente, em situações não autorizadas, que ocorrem de forma predatória. No presente estudo, a dinâmica espaço-temporal da extração seletiva de madeiras no estado de Mato Grosso foi avaliada a partir de uma série temporal (de 1992 a 2016) de dados de florestas exploradas seletivamente detectadas, usando dados de sensoriamento remoto. A interpretação visual e a classificação semiautomática de imagens Landsat foram utilizadas para detectar as florestas alteradas por atividades de extração seletiva de madeiras na área de estudo. Com base nos presentes resultados, estimou-se que 41.926 km2 de florestas nativas foram exploradas ao menos uma vez entre 1992 e 2016 em Mato Grosso, com área média anual de 1.747 km2. As florestas exploradas seletivamente e detectadas com distúrbios persistentes ou recorrentes foram mais frequentes nos anos mais recentes desta análise. A maioria das florestas exploradas seletivamente na área e no período de estudo não foram desmatadas até 2016. Esse fato indica que a extração seletiva de madeiras consiste em um fenômeno desagregado do desmatamento no estado de Mato Grosso. Observou-se que uma média de 18 km2.ano-1 e 268,18 km2.ano-1 de florestas foram exploradas seletivamente dentro de Unidades de Conservação e Terras Indígenas, respectivamente, entre 1992 e 2016. As atividades de extração seletiva não apresentaram tendências significativas de aumento ou redução dentro de áreas protegidas no período analisado. As áreas de exploração seletiva de madeira foram persistentemente detectadas nos antigos polos madeireiros localizados na região centro-norte do Estado com, possivelmente, novos ciclos de corte nas áreas manejadas. Mais recentemente, a extração seletiva se expandiu à última fronteira florestal nativa no noroeste do estado de Mato Grosso. Finalmente, concluiu-se que a exploração madeireira impacta grande extensão de florestas nativas anualmente no estado de Mato Grosso e, por isso, precisa ser devidamente considerada e monitorada pelos órgãos ambientais devido aos seus potenciais impactos nas florestas e para apoiar a definição de políticas públicas para garantir a sustentabilidade da produção florestal futura naquele Estado.

Abstract Selective logging is a forestry activity that includes harvesting a group of tree species in native forests, usually those of higher value or commercial interest. Selective logging can be carried out legally, in forest management areas and forest areas previously authorized for deforestation, or illegally, in any other unauthorized cases that occur in a predatory manner. In this study, the spatiotemporal dynamic of selectively logged forests in the state of Mato Grosso was assessed based on a time-series (from 1992 to 2016) of logged forests detected using remotely sensed data. Visual interpretation and semi-automatic classification of Landsat imagery were used to detect forests impacted by selective logging activities in the study area. Based on the results, it was estimated that 41,926 km2 of native forests were selectively logged at least once between 1992 and 2016 in the state of Mato Grosso, an annual average of 1,747 km2. Selectively logged forests detected showing persistent or recurrent forest disturbances were more frequently observed in the most recent years of this analysis. Most of the selectively logged forests in the study area and period have not been deforested by 2016. It indicates that selective logging is a dissociated phenomenon with deforestation in the state of Mato Grosso. It was also observed that an average of 18 km2.year-1 and 268.18 km2.year-1 of native forests was selectively logged within Conservation Units and Indigenous Lands between 1992 and 2016. A significant tendency to increase or decrease logging activities within those protected areas in the analyzed period was not observed. Selectively logged forests were persistently detected in the old timber centers located in the central-northern region of the state of Mato Grosso, showing, potentially, new cutting cycles in those previously logged forests. More recently, selective logging activities have reached the last native forest frontier in northwestern Mato Grosso. Finally, it was concluded that selective logging is annually disturbing a considerable extension of native forests in the state of Mato Grosso and, therefore, needs to be adequately considered and monitored by environmental agencies due to its potential forest impacts and to support the definition of public policies to ensure the future sustainability of forest production in that state.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the potential of artificial neural networks (ANN) as a tool to estimate deforestation rates in the municipality of São Félix do Xingu, PA, Brazil. The following input variables were used: deforestation rate until 2014, slope, altitude, Euclidean distance to roads and rivers, permanent preservation area (PPA), and property area. A total of 2,800 properties were used, of which 2,000 were used for training and 800 for validation of the networks. The input layer included nine neurons: six as quantitative variables and three as categorical variables. The output layer included a single neuron - the deforestation rate. The training results indicated high correlation (r = 0.92) and root mean square error (RMSE) of 12.4%. Validation of the model estimated RMSE = 12.9% and r = 0.91. The study results evidenced the high potential of ANN as a tool to estimate farm deforestation rates.

ABSTRACT Selective logging activities are commonly observed in the Brazilian Amazon and are responsible for high forest impact. In this study, selective logging detection techniques and the spatiotemporal extension of forests impacted by logging activities between 2003 and 2014 in portions of the states of Mato Grosso, Pará, and Rondônia were assessed using remotely sensing data. Based on results obtained, it was estimated that the overall accuracies are greater than 91% for techniques applied to detect forests impacted by selective logging in the study areas. Forests impacted by selective logging increased in Western state of Mato Grosso and Northern state of Rondônia, which indicates a stage high forest activity in these regions. In contrast, in Eastern state of Pará, a decrease in forests impacted by logging activities was observed, which indicates collapsed stage of logging activities resulting from deforestation and predatory logging in that region.

ABSTRACT This study assessed the dynamics of the land use and cover changes, deforestation trends and the current status of the Legal Forest Reserves (LFR) and Permanent Protected areas (PPA) in the Nova Bonal Sustainable Development Project (SDP) between 1997-2014. Deforestation datasets and fieldwork were used in this analysis. Our results indicate that there was no trend in the estimated deforestation rate dataset for the SDP, but there was a decreasing trend in deforestation rates within its 10-km buffer zone, most likely due to the scarcity of native forests in that area. The negative environmental area balance of PPA and LFR were observed within the 10-km buffer zone of the SDP. Finally, we conclude that the alternative land and forest uses enforced within the SDP are more effective for environmental conservation than the commonly adopted land uses, especially pastures adopted by conventional colonization located around it.

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to evaluate the potential of Artificial Neural Networks in estimating the properties of wood resistance. In order to do so, a hybrid of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus urograndis) planted in the Northern Region of the State of Mato Grosso was selected and ten trees were collected. Then, four samples of each tree were removed, totaling 40 samples, which were later subjected to non-destructive testing of apparent density, ultrasonic wave propagation velocity, dynamic modulus of elasticity obtained by ultrasound, and Janka hardness. These properties were used as estimators of resistance and compressive strength parallel to fibers, and hardness. Multilayer Perceptron networks were also employed, training 100 of them for each of the evaluated parameters. The obtained results indicated that the use of Artificial Neural Networks is an efficient tool for predicting wood resistance.

ABSTRACT The mechanical performance of soil stabilization using lime to improve forest roads was assessed. This study was conducted with lateritic soil (LVAd30) using lime content of 2% in the municipality of Niquelândia, Goiás state, Brazil. Geotechnical tests of soil characterization, compaction, and mechanical strength were performed applying different compaction efforts and curing periods. The results showed that lime content significantly changed the mechanical performance of natural soil, increasing its mechanical strength and load-carrying capacity. Compaction effort and curing time provided different responses in the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests. The best UCS value (786.59 kPa) for the soil-lime mixture was achieved with modified compaction effort and curing time of 28 days. In the CBR test, soil-lime mixtures compacted at intermediate and modified efforts and cured for 28 days were considered for application as subbase material of flexible road pavements, being a promising alternative for use in layers of forest roads.

RESUMO O presente trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a empregabilidade de Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNA) na predição da qualidade de painéis aglomerados, baseando-se na análise de suas propriedades físicas e mecânicas. Desta forma, foram produzidos painéis aglomerados com partículas de Eucalyptus grandis e colados com dois tipos diferentes de resinas - ureia-formaldeído e fenol-formaldeído. Para caracterizar a qualidade dos painéis, foram avaliadas as propriedades físicas (densidade, absorção de água após 24 horas de imersão e inchamento em espessura após 24 horas de imersão) e mecânicas (resistência a flexão estática e ligação interna). Como variáveis de entradas das RNA, foram adotados o tipo de adesivo e a densidade dos painéis, visando predizer as demais variáveis avaliadas. Foram adotadas Redes do tipo Perceptrons de múltiplas camadas, sendo treinadas 100 redes para cada um dos parâmetros avaliados. Os resultados obtidos indicaram ser o uso de RNA uma ferramenta eficiente na predição da qualidade de painéis aglomerados. Todas as propriedades avaliadas com uso desta técnica no presente estudo apresentaram modelos com ajustes superiores a 0,90.

ABSTRACT This study aims to assess Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) in predicting particleboard quality based on its physical and mechanical properties. Particleboards were manufactured using eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis) and bonded with urea-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde resins. To characterize quality, physical (density and water absorption and thickness swelling after 24-hour immersion) and mechanical (static bending strength and internal bond) properties were assessed. For predictions, adhesive type and particleboard density were adopted as ANN input variables. Networks of multilayer Perceptron (MLP) were adopted, training 100 networks for each assessed parameter. The results pointed out ANN as effective in predicting quality parameters of particleboards. With this technique, all the assessed properties presented models with adjustments higher than 0.90.

RESUMO: Objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a composição florística, a estrutura da vegetação e os grupos ecológicos das espécies arbóreas em área de cerradão em Palmas, Tocantins. Foi realizado um inventário florestal em área de 10,15 hectares, utilizando amostragem sistemática com parcelas de 400 m², onde foram amostradas e identificadas todas as árvores vivas e mortas em pé, com DAP ≥ 5 cm. Na análise da suficiência amostral utilizou-se a regressão linear com resposta em platô (REGRELRP). A diversidade florística foi avaliada pelo o índice Shannon (H') e a estrutura horizontal pelo o Índice de Valor de Importância (IVI). Na análise da estrutura vertical, a floresta foi classificada em três estratos. A REGRELRP revelou que a intensidade amostral foi adequada. Predominam na área as famílias Fabaceae e Chrysobalanaceae, e as espécies Myrcia splendens, Emmotum nitens e Qualea parviflora. O grupo composto por espécies pioneiras predominam (613 indivíduos ha-1), e as climácicas (530 indivíduos ha-1). No quesito riqueza, as espécies clímax sobressaíram (57 espécies), pioneiras (25 espécies). A diversidade alfa florística foi de 3,35 nats indivívideos-1 e o valor de equabilidade de Pielou J = 0,76. A distribuição diamétrica apresentou comportamento exponencial negativo e balanceada. Em relação aos estratos verticais, a menor quantidade de indivíduos é encontrada no estrato superior (13%), a maior no estrato médio (63%) e o estrato inferior (24%). A área estudada foi caracterizada como estruturada e diversa conforme composição florística e fitossociológica encontrada, apresentou heterogeneidade de espécies, predominantemente clímax. O cerradão apresentou bom estado de conservação, demostrando sua capacidade de resiliência a pequenos distúrbios.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to characterize the floristic composition, vegetation structure and ecological group of tree species in a cerradão forest (Cerrado biome) of Palmas, Tocantins State, Brazil. A forest inventory was performed in an area of 10.15 hectares, using systematic sampling with plots of 400 m², in which all standing trees, alive and dead, that had diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 5 cm were sampled and identified. A linear plateau regression model (LPR) was used for sample sufficiency analysis. The Shannon index (H') was used for assess the floristic diversity, and the Importance Value Index (IVI) for assess the horizontal structure. The forest was classified in three strata according to vertical structure analysis. The LPR showed that the sampling size was adequate. The predominate species in the area were Myrcia splendens, Emmotum nitens and Qualea parviflora, and species from the families Fabaceae and Chrysobalanaceae. The pioneer (613 individuals ha-1) and climax (530 individuals ha-1) species were the predominating groups. Regarding the richness index, the number of climax (57 species) and pioneer (25 species) species stood out. The alpha floristic diversity was 3.35 nats individuals-1 and the Pielou equability value J = 0.76. The diametric distribution showed a negative and balanced exponential pattern. Regarding the vertical stratification, the smallest amount of individuals was in the upper stratum (13%) and the highest in the mid stratum (63%) and in the lower stratum (24%). The use of floristic composition tools with horizontal and vertical structure analysis was effective for understand the tree community, which may be considered structured and diverse, thus able to restructure possible disturbances when preserved.

O entendimento dos fatores que influenciam a produtividade é essencial para o sucesso produtivo e para adoção de manejo diferenciado em sítios específicos. Na busca de alternativas para predizer a produtividade de grãos de milho a partir de atributos do solo, uma alternativa consiste no uso de redes neurais artificiais (RNAs). Diante disso, o presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a eficácia de adoção de atributos do solo por interface da análise de regressão, e das RNAs no estabelecimento de sítios de manejo diferenciado e predição da produtividade de grãos de milho, “segunda safra”, em solos de cerrado. Os dados foram obtidos em uma área de 41,76 ha, cultivada em 2010 e 2011. Apesar de demandar maior tempo de construção e processamento em relação à regressão linear, a adoção de RNAs permite melhor predição da produtividade de grãos. Em consonância ao estabelecimento de sítios específicos de manejo diferenciado do solo, a partir dos atributos teor de argila, capacidade de troca de cátions, matéria orgânica do solo e saturação de bases.

The understanding of the factors influencing yield is essential for the crop success and adoption of site-specific management. The use of artificial neural networks (ANN) is an alternative of corn yield prediction from soil properties attributes. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of adoption of soil properties by interface of the regression analysis, and ANNs in the establishment of site-specific management zones and prediction of corn yield, second crop in Cerrado’s soil. Data were collected in an area of 41.76 ha cropped in 2010 and 2011. The adoption of ANNs allows better corn yield prediction despite of higher demand of construction time and processing when compared to linear regression. In consonance to the soil site-specific establishment from clay content, exchange cation capacity, organic matter and base soil saturation.

Resumo:O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia da aplicação de modelos de análise de regressão e redes neurais artificiais (RNAs) na predição do volume de madeira e da biomassa acima do solo, da vegetação arbórea em área de cerradão. Volume de madeira e biomassa foram estimados com equações alométricas desenvolvidas para a área de estudo. Os índices de vegetação, como variáveis preditoras, foram estimados a partir de imagens do sensor LISS-III, e a área basal foi determinada por medições na floresta. A precisão das equações foi verificada pela correlação entre os valores estimados e observados (r), erro-padrão da estimativa (Syx) e gráfico residual. As equações de regressão para o volume de madeira total e do fuste (0,96 e 0,97 para r, e 11,92 e 9,72% para Syx, respectivamente) e para a biomassa (0,91 e 0,92 para r, e 22,73 e 16,80% para Syx, respectivamente) apresentaram bons ajustes. As redes neurais também apresentaram bom ajuste com o volume de madeira (0,99 e 0,99 para r, e 4,93 e 4,83% para Syx) e a biomassa (0,97 e 0,98 r, e 8,92 e 7,96% para Syx, respectivamente). A área basal e os índices de vegetação foram eficazes na estimativa do volume de madeira e biomassa para o cerradão. Os valores reais de volume de madeira e biomassa não diferiram estatisticamente dos valores estimados pelos modelos de regressão e redes neurais (χ2ns); contudo, as RNAs são mais acuradas.

Abstract:The objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of regression models and artificial neural networks (ANNs) in predicting wood volume and aboveground biomass of arboreal vegetation in area of tall Cerrado (a forest, savanna-like vegetation). Wood volume and biomass were estimated with allometric equations developed for the studied area. The vegetation indices, as predictor variables, were estimated from LISS-III sensor imagery, and the basal area was determined from field measurements. Equation precision was verified by the correlation between estimated and observed values (r), standard error of estimate (Syx), and by the residual plot. The regression equations for total wood volume and bole volume (0.96 and 0.97 for r, and 11.92 and 9.72% for Syx, respectively), as well as for aboveground biomass (0.91 and 0.92 for r, and 22.73 and 16.80% for Syx, respectively) showed good adjustments. The neural networks also showed good adjustments for both wood volume (0.99 and 0,99 for r, and 4.93 and 4.83% for Syx) and biomass (0.97 and 0.98 for r, and 8.92 and 7.96% for Syx, respectively). Basal area and vegetation indices were effective in estimating wood volume and biomass for the tall cerrado vegetation. Measured wood volume and aboveground biomass did not differ statistically from the predicted values by both the regression models and neural networks (χ2ns); however, the ANNs are more accurate.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo testar funções densidade de probabilidade para a distribuição das variáveis altura total, área transversal e volume individual, para três diferentes intervalos de classe. Os dados provieram da medição dos diâmetros (DAP), alturas totais e estimativas dos volumes individuais de 338 pinheiros de um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, com 15,24 ha, situado no Campus Jardim Botânico da UFPR, Curitiba-PR. Foram ajustadas dez funções, incluindo modelos comumente utilizados na distribuição diamétrica e outros desenvolvidos recentemente e aplicadas na ciência florestal. Os critérios de seleção foram o teste de aderência de Kolmogorov - Smirnov, erro padrão da estimativa em porcentagem e o coeficiente de determinação ajustado. Foram usados três intervalos de classe determinados pelas regras de Sturges, Dixon & Kronmal e Velleman. A função Normal, para a variável altura, e Weber, para a distribuição da área transversal e volume individual, propiciaram os melhores ajustes, considerando os três intervalos de classe adotados. Os modelos se ajustaram melhor para intervalos de classe de maior tamanho, obtidos pela regra de Sturges.

This study aimed to test probability density functions for the distribution of variables total height, transverse area and individual volume, considering three different class intervals. Data were obtained from the measurement of diameter (DBH) and total height and from estimation of the individual volume of 338 pine trees in a fragment of Mixed Ombrophylous Forest with an area of 15.24 ha, which is located in Jardim Botânico campus of UFPR, Curitiba-PR. Ten functions were fitted, including commonly used models for diameter distribution as well as other recently developed models applied to forest science. Selection criteria included Kolmogorov-Smirnov adherence test, standard error of estimate in percentage and adjusted coefficient of determination. Three class intervals were used as obtained by Sturges, Dixon & Kronmal, and Velleman criteria. The Normal function for variable height, and the Weber function for distribution of transverse area and individual volume, provided the best fit, considering the three class intervals adopted. The models fitted better for larger size class intervals as obtained by Sturges rule.

Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se ajustar a função de densidade de probabilidade Weibull aos dados do povoamento, visando a representar a distribuição do número de árvores por classes de diâmetro bem como ajustar modelos que representem seus atributos para projetar o crescimento e a produção por classe diamétrica e o rendimento dos múltiplos produtos da madeira na idade da rotação adotada pela empresa (sete anos). Os dados provieram de povoamentos de Eucalyptus urophylla da empresa Anglo Americana plc (CODEMIM), localizada no município de Niquelândia no estado de Goiás. Inicialmente foi ajustada a função de probabilidade Weibull três parâmetros pelo método dos percentis, para o povoamento como um todo. Posteriormente, foram ajustados e selecionados modelos dos atributos do povoamento, utilizando-se como critérios de seleção o Gráfico de resíduos, Erro Padrão Residual (s yx) e o Coeficiente de Determinação (R²). Em seguida, foi utilizado o modelo hipsométrico de Trorey para obtenção da altura média das possíveis classes diamétricas e utilizado o modelo de afilamento de 5º grau e o modelo volumétrico de Takata, visando à compatibilidade dos volumes por eles gerados. Os resultados prognosticados foram coerentes com a produção do local, quando comparados com inventários já realizados na empresa em povoamento com essa faixa de idade.

This study aimed to fit the Weibull probability density function to stand data so as to represent the distribution of number of trees by diameter class, and also to fit models representing stand attributes so as to project growth and yield by diameter class and also yield of multiple wood products at the relevant rotation age (7 years). Data were collected from Eucalyptus urophylla stands owned by Anglo Americana plc (CODEMIM), a company situated in the municipality of Niquelândia, Goiás state. Initially a 3P-Weibull probability function was fitted by the percentile method for the aggregate stand. Then models were fitted and selected of stand attributes using residuals plot, residual standard error (s yx) and coefficient of determination (R²) as selection criteria. The hypsometric model of Trorey was then used to derive the average height of possible diameter classes, and the taper model of degree 5 and volumetric model of Takata were used to check compatibility of generated volumes. Prognosticated results were consistent with local productivity when compared to previous inventories complied by the same company of stands within the same age group.

Os objetivos deste estudo foram ajustar e selecionar funções de densidade probabilística que caracterizem a estrutura diamétrica desse fragmento e das espécies: Cedrela fissilis (Cedro), Luehea divaricata (Açoita Cavalo), Gochnatia polymorpha (Cambará), Sebastiania commersoniana (Branquilho) e Casearia sylvestris (Cafezeiro) de um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista com 15,24ha, localizado em Curitiba, Paraná. Para avaliar a distribuição diamétrica dessa floresta e das cinco espécies selecionadas, foram ajustadas sete funções probabilísticas para intervalos de classe de 5cm. Segundo os critérios de seleção adotados, o modelo que melhor representou a distribuição diamétrica para toda a floresta, o cedro, o cambará e o branquilho foi o de Weber; para o cafezeiro, a função Gamma (Adaptada) foi a mais eficiente e para o açoita cavalo nenhuma dessas funções foi aderente. O branquilho, o açoita cavalo, o cafezeiro e a floresta como um todo apresentaram distribuição em "J" invertido ou decrescente. Entretanto, o cedro e o cambará apresentaram distribuição tendendo à unimodalidade com forte assimetria à direita.

The objective of this study was to adjust and select probability density functions that characterize the diametric structure of this forest fragment and for the species: Cedrela fissilis, Luehea divaricata, Gochnatia polymorpha, Sebastiania commersoniana and Casearia sylvestris for a 15.24 hectare fragment of Mixed Ombrophylous Forest, located in Curitiba, State of Paraná. In order to evaluate the diametric distributions of this forest and the five selected species, seven probability functions were adjusted for 5cm class intervals. According to the criteria of selection adopted, the model that best represented the diametric distributions for the whole forest, Cedrela fissilis, Gochnatia polymorpha and Sebastiania commersoniana was the Weber model; for Casearia sylvestris, the Gamma function (adapted) was the most efficient, and for Luehea divaricata, none of these functions showed adherence. The Sebastiania commersoniana, Luehea divaricata, Casearia sylvestris and the forest as a whole showed inverted "J" or decreasing distribution, while, Cedrela fissilis and Gochnatia polymorpha showed an almost unimodal distribution with a strong asymmetry to the right.
