ABSTRACT: The study of adaptability, stability, and productivity is essential for selecting and recommending superior genotypes. This fact is particularly the case for the introduction of common bean cultivars in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose production is negligible and does not meet the internal demand. Thus, this study estimated genetic parameters and selection gains and undertake a simultaneous selection for adaptability, stability, and productivity in black bean genotypes via mixed models. The investigation was carried out in three municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro during three crop years. The trials were set up in a randomized block design with 11 genotypes and three replications. High mean heritability (81%) and selection accuracy (90%), as well as good selection prospects, were observed. Gains between 1.03 and 9.49% were achieved for grain yield. Simultaneous selection was efficient, indicating two black bean lines (CNFP 15290 and CNFP 15361) as the most productive, adaptable, and stable. As such, these lines have the potential to be released as new black bean cultivars for the state of Rio de Janeiro. RESUMO: O estudo de adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade é importante para selecionar e recomendar genótipos superiores. Esse fato é particularmente válido para a introdução de cultivares de feijão comum no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, cuja produção é ínfima e não atende a demanda interna. ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate differences in the prevalence of frailty between LGBT+ and non-LGBT+ older adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving Brazilians aged 50 and over was performed. The participants were invited to participate in an anonymous online survey between August 2019 and January 2020. The survey was widely distributed in neighborhood associations, day centers, non-governmental organizations, and social media. Those who identified as homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, non-heterosexual, transgender, travesti, or non-binary were grouped as LGBT+. Participants who were both cisgender and heterosexual were categorized as non-LGBT+. Frailty was measured using the FRAIL scale, and the participants were categorized as robust, prefrail, or frail. Generalized ordered logistic models were used to examine the adjusted association between LGBT+ status and frailty according to age and sex. Results: The study sample included 6,693 participants with a median age of 60 years. Overall, 1,332 patients were LGBT+ (19.9%), and 5,361 were non-LGBT+ (80.1%). Pre-frailty or frailty was observed in 656 (49%) LGBT+ participants and 2,460 (46%) non-LGBT+ participants (p=0.03). Multivariate analyses showed that being LGBT+ was independently associated with frailty in female participants aged ≥50 years (OR=1.52, 95%CI=1.08-2.13, p=0.02) and male participants aged ≥60 years (OR=2.83, 95%CI=1.41-5.69, p=0.004). Non-cisgender participants were also more likely to be frail than cisgender participants (OR=2.21, 95%CI=1.42-3.42, p<0.001). ABSTRACT Despite the importance of symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) as a nitrogen source for leguminous plants, there are few reports of common bean breeding programs aiming at efficiency in SNF. This study aimed to analyze the interaction between elite lines of common bean with carioca grains and the nitrogen source (mineral fertilizer or SNF), and to select lines with wide adaptability, stability, high agronomic performance, and superiority in nodulation. Nineteen lines with carioca grains were evaluated in 12 environments in Brazil. In each environment, one experiment with mineral nitrogen fertilization and another with Rhizobium inoculation were set up, and agronomic traits were evaluated. Nodulation traits were evaluated in two years at one out of five location. Analyses of variance and of stability were performed, and Spearman’s correlations and the coincidence of selection of the best lines in both N sources were estimated. There is an effect of the N source and of genetic variability for all the traits. The lines were higher yielding under fertilization with mineral fertilizer, but they were more resistant to lodging when they were inoculated. The line by N source interaction was significant for 100-seed weight and resistance to lodging, but it did not affect selection of the best lines in the N sources. Eleven out of the 19 lines had no difference in grain yields between the two N sources. The line CNFC 15086 is recommended for growing in both N sources since it presented the highest yield and high adaptability and stability under both sources. ABSTRACT We analyse the conceptual and methodological approaches taken by Brazilian research on the Dual Career (DC). We conducted a narrative review of published studies between 2018 and 2023; we analysed them based on the methodological approach, the concept used, and their basic premises that support research. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar parâmetros genéticos e selecionar linhagens de grupo de feijão comercial carioca com alta produtividade, grande massa de 100 grãos, bom aspecto visual dos grãos e boa resistentência à murcha-de-fusário, doença causada pelo fungo Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli que habita o solo. Um total de 114 linhagens obtidas de duas populações foram avaliadas juntamente com sete genótipos controles na safra de inverno nos anos/gerações de 2015/F5:7 e 2016/F5:8. Há variabilidade genética entre as linhagens de feijão carioca (Phaseolus vulgaris) para todos os caracteres avaliados, e as estimativas de parâmetros genéticos mostram uma possível seleção bem-sucedida para reação à murcha-de-fusário, produtividade, aparência dos grãos e massa de 100 grãos. Abstract The objective of this work was to estimate genetic parameters and to select lines of carioca commercial bean group with high yield, great 100-seed weight, good grain appearance, and good resistance to fusarium wilt, disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli that inhabits the soil. A total of 114 lines coming from two populations were evaluated together with seven control genotypes in the winter crop season in the years/generations of 2015/F5:7 and 2016/F5:8. There is a genetic variability among the carioca common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) lines for all the traits evaluated, and the estimates of the genetic parameters show a possible successful selection for reaction to fusarium wilt, yield, grain appearance, and 100-seed weight. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar linhagens de feijão-comum quanto à produtividade e à qualidade comercial de grãos em multiambientes, e maximizar a eficiência da seleção por meio de métodos complementares. Ao longo de três anos agrícolas, 79 ensaios com linhagens de feijão-comum do tipo carioca foram conduzidos nas safras da seca, do inverno e do verão, nas regiões Sul, Sudeste, Centro-Oeste e Nordeste do Brasil. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições e 17 genótipos. Os caracteres avaliados foram: produtividade de grãos (GY), aparência de grãos (GA), rendimento de peneira (SY) e massa de 100 grãos (100SW). As análises de adaptabilidade e estabilidade foram realizadas por meio de modelos que consideram o efeito de genótipo como fixo ou aleatório, em uma perspectiva de modelo misto. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate common bean lines for yield and commercial grain quality in multi-environments, and to maximize the efficiency of selection using complementary methods. Over three crop years, 79 trials using carioca common bean lines were carried out in the dry, winter, and rainy crop seasons, in the Southern, Southeastern, Midwestern, and Northeastern regions of Brazil. Abstract Objectives: To compare variables of access to healthcare between the LGBT+ population aged 50 and over and those non-LGBT+. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Brazil through a confidential online questionnaire. The use of the health system was characterized by the number of preventive tests performed and measured by the PCATool-Brasil scale (a 10-point scale in which higher scores were associated with better assistance in healthcare). The association between being LGBT+ and access to health was analyzed in Poisson regression models. Results: 6693 participants (1332 LGBT+ and 5361 non-LGBT+) with a median age of 60 years were included. In the univariate analysis, it was observed not only lower scores on the PCATool scale (5.13 against 5.82, p < 0.001), but a greater proportion of individuals among those classified with the worst quintile of access to healthcare (< 4 points), 31% against 18% (p < 0.001). Being LGBT+ was an independent factor associated with worse access to health (PR = 2.5, 95% CI 2.04‒3.06). The rate of screening cancer, for breast, colon, and cervical cancer was also found to be lower in the LGBT+ population. Conclusion: Healthcare access and health service experiences were worse in the LGBT+ group than in their non-LGBT peers. Abstract The study of adaptability and yield stability is essential for the selection and recommendation of new cultivars. Thus, this study determined the adaptability and yield stability of black bean genotypes for cultivar recommendation using a GGE biplot. To this end, nine trials were carried out at different locations in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Eleven genotypes were evaluated in three growing seasons, in a randomized block design, with three replications. Adaptability and stability of grain yield were analyzed by the GGE biplot method. The effects of genotypes, environments and of the genotype - environment interaction were significant, which explained the different responses of the genotypes to the tested environments. ABSTRACT Reference evapotranspiration (ET0) and rainfall are basic variables for estimating the net irrigation depth (NID). The objective of this study was to estimate the NID for designing irrigation systems in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil, using ET0 and rainfall probability distributions. A 30-year ET0 and rainfall dataset (1990-2019) was obtained from the ESALQ/USP weather station. The water balance between ET0 and rainfall indicated July, August, and September as months of higher water deficit. Based on the first-order Markov chain, August presented the highest water deficit. Rainfall and ET0 were estimated on 19 probability levels, and four probability distributions such as normal, log-normal, beta, and mixed gamma were evaluated. The analysis of historical August series using accumulated values in periods of five, ten, or 15 days is recommended for sizing irrigation designs in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil. The log-normal and mixed gamma probability distributions presented the best fit for ET0 and rainfall data, respectively. To reach a crop coefficient Kc = 1 in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil in August, the irrigation system should be designed for an NID of 4.1 mm day-1. The use of mean monthly rainfall and ET0 values for designing irrigation systems underestimates the NID by a mean of 26.6% compared to estimates made at a probability of 75% at five-, ten-, and 15-day intervals because the mean rainfall values occurred with exceedance probabilities of < 36%, and mean ET0 values occurred with non-exceedance probabilities of < 56%. Abstract: The purpose of this essay is to discuss the relationship between Bruno Latour's work and the concepts associated with pragmatism. We examine the ontological and methodological foundations of these perspectives in order to develop the thesis that the hybrid nature of the Latourian approach has important roots in the pragmatist project for overcoming rationalist and empiricist dichotomies, as well as in the understanding of the methodological relationships between objects and practices in terms of action. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos, avaliar o desempenho agronômico e validar os marcadores moleculares microssatélites (SSRs) ligados a loci de caracteres quantitativos (QTLs) para concentrações de Fe e Zn em grãos de feijão comum, para a seleção de lin hagens superiores. Cento e dezesseis linhagens oriundas de duas populações ('BRS Requinte' × 'Porto Real' e 'BRS Requinte' × G2358) e cinco genótipos testemunhas foram avaliadas em três ambientes. Os genitores e as linhagens foram genotipados com 20 SSRs. Na seleção simultânea das linhagens para os quatro caracteres avaliados, os ganhos com a seleção foram de 4,7% para concentração de Fe, 2,8% para concentração de Zn, 3,9% para produtividade e 0,9% para massa de 100 grãos. Desta forma, há possibilidade de seleção de linhagens que reúnam fenótipos desejáveis para os caracteres de interesse. O único marcador polimórfico é o BM 154 na população 'BRS Requinte' x 'Porto Real', o que indica que os QTLs ligados aos marcadores já podem estar fixados ou que os marcadores não estão associados nas populações utilizadas. Abstract The objective of this work was to estimate the genetic parameters, evaluate the agronomic performance, and validate the microsatellite molecular markers (SSRs) linked with quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for Fe and Zn concentrations in grains of common bean, in order to select superior lines. One hundred and sixteen lines from two populations ('BRS Requinte' × 'Porto Real' and 'BRS Requinte' × G2358) and five check genotypes were evaluated in three environments. The parents and lines were genotyped with 20 SSRs. In the simultaneous selection of the lines for the four evaluated traits, the gains from selection were 4.7% for Fe concentration, 2.8% for Zn concentration, 3.9% for yield, and 0.9% for 100-seed weight. Therefore, there is the possibility of selection of lines that combine desirable phenotypes for the traits of interest. The only polymorphic marker is BM 154 in the 'BRS Requinte' × 'Porto Real' population, indicating that the QTLs linked with the markers may already be fixed or that the markers are not associated in the used populations. RESUMO O objetivo do artigo foi diagnosticar o rendimento acadêmico dos estudantes da Rede Pública Municipal, que participaram do Projeto Vilas Olímpicas e Escolas (VIES). A amostra foi composta por 1.118 alunos (474 meninas e 644 meninos do Ensino Fundamental), de 30 escolas participantes do VIES. Analisamos as informações dos relatórios mensais das Organizações Sociais responsáveis pelos contratados de gestão das Vilas Olímpicas, com os indicadores de rendimento escolar do público-alvo. Comparamos os rendimentos bimestrais entre alunos VIES e não VIES de toda Rede de Ensino Público Municipal. Uma análise preliminar constatou que os alunos acompanhados pelo VIES apresentaram rendimento escolar médio superior ao grupo que não realizava atividades sistemáticas nas Vilas Olímpicas.

ABSTRACT This article aims to diagnose the academic performance of students from municipal public schools who participated in the Vilas Olímpicas e Escolas Project (VIES). The sample consisted of 1,118 students from 30 schools participating in the VIES. We analyzed the information in the monthly reports of the social organizations responsible for the management contractors of Vilas Olímpicas and cross-referenced it with the school performance indicators. We compared the bimonthly academic performance between the VIES and non-VIES students from the entire municipal network. The preliminary analysis found that the students monitored by the VIES had a higher average school performance than the group that did not perform systematic activities in the sports center of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

RESUMEN El objetivo del artículo fue diagnosticar el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes del sistema escolar público municipal que participaron en el Proyecto Villas Olímpicas y Escuelas (VIES). La muestra estuvo conformada por 1118 estudiantes de 30 escuelas participantes del VIES. Analizamos los informes mensuales elaborados por la dirección de las Villas Olímpicas y los indicadores de rendimiento de los estudiantes. Comparamos el rendimiento escolar de los estudiantes participantes de VIES con aquellos que no participaron y estaban matriculados en el sistema escolar público municipal. El análisis constató que los estudiantes monitoreados por el VIES tuvieron un rendimiento escolar promedio superior a los demás estudiantes del sistema público municipal.
