A biomecânica é a ciência que estuda e quantifica o movimento humano, utilizando os princípios da mecânica. Sua aplicação em artes marciais ainda é pouco freqüente, especialmente para movimentos de Kung-Fu. O presente trabalho propõe um modelo para determinar o deslocamento da mão em função do tempo em um golpe de Kung-Fu. Para validar o modelo, três indivíduos tiveram seus golpes filmados por uma câmera rápida com uma taxa de 1000 Hz. A importância do uso de velocidades e acelerações instantâneas no estudo de movimentos fica muito bem evidenciada no presente trabalho que mostra a aplicação desses conceitos em um assunto que normalmente é de grande interesse dos alunos em geral. Os resultados confirmam a hipótese de que a força muscular resultante de um movimento de Kung-Fu Yau-Man é constante antes do impacto e mostram como diferentes análises dos mesmos dados podem implicar em resultados distintos.

Biomechanics is the science that studies and quantifies human motion using the principles of mechanics. Its application to martial arts is not frequent, particularly for Kung Fu movements. The present paper proposes a model to obtain a space-time function for a Kung Fu strike. To validate the model, a high-speed camera at 1000 Hz filmed three strikes from three individuals. The importance of using instantaneous velocities and accelerations on the study of movement is very clear in the present paper, which shows an application of theses concepts to a subject interesting for students in general. The results show that the resultant muscle force is constant during the Kung Fu strike and that different analysis of the same data can produce different results.

Sistemas de células acopladas são largamente usadas com o intuito de gerar padrões de oscilação muitas vezes observados em fenômenos naturais. Quando esses sistemas têm características de invariância sob a ação de um determinado grupo de permutação os padrões de oscilação podem ser previstos usando o teorema de Golubitsky e Buono. No presente trabalho foi feito um estudo simplificado de um sistema de 4 células invariante sob a ação do grupo D4. Através do comportamento numérico das equações, equivariantes sob a ação do grupo, pode-se observar as simetrias espaciais e espaço-temporais resultantes da invariância do conjunto de células nos resultados numéricos.

Coupled cells systems are extensively used with the aim to generate oscillation patterns that reproduce natural phenomena. Under invariance by a certain group, these patterns can be predicted using the theorem proposed by Golubitsky and Buono. In the present work it was made a simplified study of a system of 4 cells invariant under D4. From the behavior of the solutions of a set of equations which is equivariant under action of this group was possible to observe numerically the spatial symmetries and spatiotemporal symmetries coming from the cell-system invariance.

Explaining codon evolution in the standard genetic code is a remarkable subject in Molecular Biology. There are many works which try to develop a model to represent this evolution, sometimes using a certain amount of mathematical tools. The present work has as its main objective to explain one possible dynamical evolution model, which is based in the algebraic approach proposed in 1993 by Hornos and Hornos. This model made an analogy between the evolution of elementary particles and evolution of codons. As a result, the symmetry group that better adjusts degeneracy of the genetic code is the simplectic group Sp(6). The dynamical model present here is based in the 3 dimensional weight space of Sp(6), called Codon Space. This space is invariant under the action of the Octahedral Group. A map, <FONT FACE=Symbol>Â</FONT>³ -> <FONT FACE=Symbol>Â</FONT>³, was constructed using an equivariance principle and its action in the Codon Space was observed. The results were based in the analysis of the attractors and their preserved symmetries. The dynamical system action reproduces the main aspects of the labeling proposed in the algebraic approach. Moreover, the map separates the codons in distinguished sets, coupling codons from the same aminoacid in the same attractor. These dynamical results indicate that the algebraic model proposed in 1993 may be an important contribution to explain codon evolution, both in the algebraic and in the dynamical aspects.

O efeito termoiônico desempenha um importante papel no desenvolvimento da ciência e da compreensão das propriedades da matéria. Aqui é feita uma proposta simples visando o estudo deste efeito com o uso de uma lâmpada de carro de dois lamentos. Através da experiencia, foi possível determinar a equação de Richardson - Dushman, a Lei de child e observar propriedades de retificação. Estes resultados mostram que, através de uma proposta simples, é possível estudar o efeito termoiônico em toda a sua riqueza física.

The thermoionic effect plays an important role in development of science and understanding of matter properties. In this present an experiment was performed to study this effect using a simple car lamp with two laments. From this experiment we determined the Richardson - Dushman equation, Child's Law and measured rectification properties. From these results we conclude through this simple experiment was possible to study the thermoionic effect in its entirety.
