Abstract Structural studies carried out on mesoscopic scale of planar and linear brittle structures from quarries in Precambrian rocks of the central-southern portion of the Catarinense Shield led to a characterization of four main fault directions: NE-SW, NW-SE and some around N-S and E-W. The older dextral (~ N-S) and sinistral (~ E-W) strike-slip faults are explained through a paleostress field approximately NE-SW oriented. The younger dextral (NE-SW) and sinistral (NW) strike-slip faults are compatible with an approximately E-W oriented paleostress field. The oldest event fits between the Cretaceous and Cenozoic and the younger event fits between the Neogene and Quaternary.

ABSTRACT Pantanal da Nhecolândia is one of the most well-preserved areas in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. Located in the southern part of the Taquari River megafan, it is in tectonic contact with the fault escarpments of the Maracaju-Campo Grande plateaus to the east and with the fault escarpments of the Bodoquena plateau to the west, which continue to north. To the south and to the north, the limits are marked respectively by the lineaments of the Negro and Taquari Rivers. Nhecolândia is characterized by the existence of at least 17,631 lagoons, 17,050 (96.70 %) of which are of fresh water (baías) and 577 (3.3 %) of salty water (salinas). Studies based on (Landsat) satellite images and use of free software (QGIS, version 2.8.3) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) revealed that the major axes of the lagoons are aligned along two directions, NE (62.49 %) and NW (37.51 %), with modes concentrated between N30-40E and N30-40W, suggesting in both cases the role played by tectonic control (neotectonics) in their formation. Evidences of fluvial origin are presented for these groups of lagoons, as well as for their tectonic alignment.

A suíte Urucum (U/Pb em zircão: 582 ± 2 Ma), situada na região do Vale do Médio Rio Doce, leste de Minas Gerais, caracteriza-se por plutons graníticos alongados (NW-SE e N-S) sin a tardi-colisionais associados à Zona de Cisalhamento de Alto Ângulo de Conselho Peña-Resplendor. São rochas foliadas, com predomínio da foliação no estado sólido em relação à foliação magmática. Foram caracterizadas quatro fácies: (i) porfirítica (Urucum), (ii) inequigranular média a grossa, (iii) com turmalina, e (iv) pegmatítica. Essas fácies são peraluminosas, com índice de saturação em alumina entre 0,98 e 1,38. Os teores em SiO2variam entre 70,7 e 73,7%, com valores de K2O entre 3,5 e 5,7%, Na2O entre 1,9 e 4,4%, MgO entre 0,6 e 1,2%, e CaO entre 0,3 e 0,9%. Em diagramas tipo Harker, os dados químicos mostram trends mais ou menos contínuos desde a fácies menos evoluída (Urucum) até fácies mais evoluídas (turmalina-granitos e pegmatítica). O comportamento de vários elementos maiores e traços (Fe203, Mg0, Mno, CaO, TiO2, Al2O3, K2O, Rb and Ba) mostram a importância da cristalização fracionada de minerais ferromagnesianos, feldspatos e minerais acessórios. A razão inicial de Sr87/Sr86 varia de 0,711 a 0,716, com εNd (580 Ma) entre -7,4 e -8,2, e idades modelo Sm-Nd entre 2290 e 1840 Ma.

The Urucum suite (582 ± 2 Ma, zircon U-Pb age), situated in the Mid-Rio Doce Valley, eastern part of Minas Gerais State, is characterized by elongated, NW-SE and N-S trending granitic massifs associated with the Conselho Peña-Resplendor high-angle shear zone. It corresponds to a syn to late collisional magmatism that presents dominant solid-state foliation. Four facies are distinguished within the Urucum suite: (i) a porphyritic (Urucum); (ii) a medium- to coarse nequigranular (Palmital); (iii) a tourmaline-bearing; and (iv) a pegmatitic facies. These facies are peraluminous, with alumina saturation index varying from 0.98 to 1.38. SiO2 contents vary from 70.7 to 73.7 wt%, with K2O values ranging from 3.5 to 5.7 wt%, Na2O from 1.9 to 4.4 wt%, MgO from 0.6 to 1.2 wt%, and CaO from 0.3 to 0.9%. Harker-type diagrams show rather continuous trends from the less-evolved Urucum facies to the more evolved tourmaline-bearing and pegmatitic facies. The behavior of several major oxides and trace elements (Fe2O3, MgO, MnO, CaO, TiO2, Al2O3, K2O, Rb and Ba) reflects the role played by fractionation of ferromagnesian minerals, feldspars and accessory minerals. Initial Sr87/Sr86 ratios vary from 0.711 to 0.716, with εNd (580 Ma) values between -7.4 to -8.2, and Sm-Nd TDM model ages ranging from 2290 to 1840 Ma.

Este trabalho apresenta um estudo dos lineamentos estruturais extraídos manualmente a partir de imagens de satélite (CBERS-2B, sensor WFI, uma imagem gratuita disponível na internet) da região do Pantanal e faz uma comparação com os lineamentos estruturais de rochas Pré-Cambrianas e Paleozóicas que circundam a bacia Cenozóica do Pantanal. Usando software livre para análise de imagens de satélite, a fotointerpretação mostrou que as direções NS, NE e NW observadas no Pantanal são as mesmas registradas nas rochas mais antigas que circundam a bacia, sugerindo reativação destas mesmas direções estruturais durante o Quaternário. Logo, a Bacia do Pantanal possui uma tectônica ativa e sua evolução parece estar ligada às mudanças relacionadas com a subducção Andina.

This paper presents a study of the structural lineaments of the Pantanal extracted visually from satellite images (CBERS-2B satellite, Wide Field Imager sensor, a free image available in INTERNET) and a comparison with the structural lineaments of Precambrian and Paleozoic rocks surrounding the Cenozoic Pantanal Basin. Using a free software for satellite image analysis, the photointerpretation showed that the NS, NE and NW directions observed on the Pantanal satellite images are the same recorded in the older rocks surrounding the basin, suggesting reactivation of these basement structural directions during the Quaternary. So the Pantanal Basin has an active tectonics and its evolution seems to be linked to changes that occurred during the Andean subduction.

A análise estrutural efetuada num segmento neoproterozóico do Cinturão Ribeira, Sudeste do Brasil, mostra que ele representa parte do orógeno transpressivo destral, relacionado com a Província Mantiqueira Central. Caracteriza-se regionalmente por um cinturão milonítico de direção NNE e mergulhos subverticais, com geometria anastomosada, descrevendo em escala de mapa estruturas do tipo S-C, que são defletidas para direção NE nas proximidades do Lineamento de Além-Paraíba. O controle estrutural e litológico e a partição da deformação foram responsáveis pela formação de granulitos miloníticos félsicos com lentes de granitos tipo-S, desenvolvidos em zonas de cisalhamento dúcteis, alternados com granulitos básicos a intermediários menos deformados com charnockitos associados. Na região, os indicadores cinemáticos do cisalhamento simples, destral, são consistentes com a deformação transpressiva, que é particularmente comum nas bordas das zonas de cisalhamento mais importantes. A presença de leucogranitos tipo-S pode levar a variação das relações planares e lineares,as quais condicionam, localmente, zonas extensionais. Estes elementos são consistentes com uma colisão continental oblíqua, considerando o Cráton do São Francisco como um bloco estável.

Structural analysis carried out on a segment of the Neoproterozoic Ribeira Belt, southeastern Brazil, show that it represents part of the transpressive dextral orogen related to the Central Mantiqueira Province. NNE-trending and steeply dipping regional mylonitic belts form anastomosed geometry, and describe a map-scale, S-C-like structure that is characterized by their deflection towards NE near the Além Paraíba Lineament. Lithological and structural control related to deformation partition were responsible for the formation of felsic mylonitic granulites with S-type granites lenses developed in ductile shear zones, alternated with less deformed intermediate to basic granulites associated with charnockites. The dextral shear sense indicators are consistent with transpressive deformation in the region and are common especially at the border of the main shear zones. The presence of S-type leucogranite may lead to variations of linear and planar relationships, which result in local extension zones. These elements are consistent with oblique continental collision considering the São Francisco Craton as a stable block.

Este trabalho apresenta idades 40Ar/39Ar de rochas da Zona de Cisalhamento Transtrativa Sinistral da Serra do Azeite, situada na parte sul do cinturão Ribeira, entre os Estados de São Paulo e Paraná, bem como discute a correlação regional e as implicações tectônicas com outras partes do cinturão. Os dados geocronológicos sugerem que a deformação extensional foi ativa entre 600 e 580 Ma (idades aparentes obtidas, respectivamente, em hornblenda e muscovita). Este intervalo de idades é relativamente mais antigo do que o proposto anteriormente para o período de atividade destas estruturas (520-480 Ma) no segmento norte deste cinturão e do cinturão Araçuaí. A análise cinemática dos milonitos datados mostra estruturas extensionais bem preservadas com movimento de topo para ESE, compatível com o de estruturas encontradas em outros segmentos tectônicos na porção leste do Quadrilátero Ferrífero e na região do Vale do Rio Doce. Nossas idades situam-se nomesmo intervalo de tempo definido para o magmatismo alcalino da Suíte Serra do Mar. Sugerimos que o arcabouço tectônico regional tenha sido desenvolvido durante um processo de extensão em escala continental. Este processo teria sido contemporâneo da deformação em condições de convergência ligada a zonas de cisalhamento Neoproterozóicas dos cinturões Apiaí/Ribeira e Araçuaí, as quais compõem segmentos importantes destes cinturões. Os dados disponíveis mostram que estas estruturas não podem ser relacionadas simplesmente ao colapso gravitacional pós-orogênico, mas devem envolver um processo mais complexo relacionado provavelmente ao balanço dinâmico entre espessamento e afinamento crustal durante os eventos de convergência tectônica, formação de bacias e exumação.

This paper presents 40Ar/39Ar ages of the rocks from the Serra do Azeite transtensional shear zone in the southern part of the Ribeira belt, between the States of São Paulo and Paraná, and also discusses the regional correlations and the tectonic implications for other parts of the belt. The geochronological data suggest that transtensional deformation was active between 600 and 580 Ma (hornblende and muscovite apparent ages, respectively). This time span is considerably older than previous proposals for the period of activity of these structures (520-480 Ma) in the northern segment of this belt and in the Araçuaí belt. Kinematic analysis of the dated mylonites shows extensional structures with top-down movement to ESE compatible with structures found in other tectonic segments in the eastern portion of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero and in the Rio Doce Valley region. Our ages are situated in the same time interval defined for the alkaline magmatism of the Serra do Mar suite. We suggest that the regional tectonic framework was developed during continental-scale extension. This process has been coeval with convergent strain in the adjacent Neoproterozoic shear zones of the Apiaí/Ribeira and Araçuaí belts, which make up significant segments of these belts. The available data show that these structures may not be simply related to post-orogenic gravitational collapse, but must involve a more complex process probably related to dynamic balance between crustal thickening and thinning during tectonic convergence, basin formation and exhumation processes.

O Granito Arrozal ocorre na porção sudoeste do Estado do Rio de Janeiro e associa-se à Zona de Cisalhamento de Além-Paraíba. Possui composição granítica a granodiorítica eexibe predomínio de estruturas magmáticas na parte central, e estruturas de alto strain (miloníticas) nas bordas. Os dados estruturais sugerem colocação em segmentos extensionais(releasing bends) associados a uma tectônica transcorrentedestral, sob regime transpressivo. A forte mudança do trend estrutural desta zona de cisalhamento na região, passando de NE-SW para próximo de E-W, criou condições para geração de espaços que favoreceram a colocação do Granito Arrozal, além de outros granitos associados à referida zona.

The Arrozal Granite, situated in the southwestern region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, has a granitic to granodioritic composition. It contains a strong mylonitic foliation along its border, passing gradually to a well-developed magmatic foliation towards its center. Structural analysis indicates that the Arrozal Granite was emplaced along the Além-Paraíba Shear Zone in a dextral transpressive tectonic regime. A regional shift of the trend along this shear zone from NE-SW to E-W, observed in the area, is interpreted to be casually related to the creation of space for the emplacement of the granite. Our data indicate that releasing bends may have played an important role for space generation during the emplacement of the Arrozal Granite and other plutons.
