ABSTRACT The study aimed to estimate sex differences in body mass index (BMI), motor competence (MC), health-related physical fitness (HRPF), perceived motor competence (PMC), and physical activity (PA) and to identify individual predictors associated with overweight in Brazilian children. A cross-sectional study was conducted, sampling 217 Brazilian children aged between 6-10 years old. PA was measured through pedometers. MC and PMC were estimated, respectively, by the Test of Gross Motor Development (2nd edition) battery and the Pictographic Scale of Perceived Competence Assessment in Motor Skills, while the HRPF was estimated through the curl up, push up, horizontal jump, sit and reach, and 6-minute walk/run tests. Height and weight were measured, and BMI was computed. Statistical analyses involved the use of the Mann Whitney U test and multiple logistic regression. Sex differences were observed for HRPF score, mean of weekend steps and total steps/week, favouring boys (p< 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that MC (OR= 0.97; 95%CI 0.92– 0.98) and HRPF (OR= 0.78; 95%CI 0.66– 0.93) were significantly associated with overweight, while any significant association were observed for PA and PMC. Results highlight that increases in MC and HRPF reduced the chances of children being overweight.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar os efeitos da aprendizagem explícita e implícita em crianças, assim como a aplicação da aprendizagem sequencial, na aquisição da técnica de arremesso do basquetebol em um contexto ecológico. Os sujeitos (n=80) eram novatos no basquetebol, entre 9 e 12 anos. Os grupos experimentais seguiram um dos três diferentes métodos de treinamento, os quais combinaram aspectos técnicos e táticos: (a) explícito, (b) implícito, ou (c) sequencial (primeiro implícito e depois explícito). O grupo controle participou somente das fases de testes. Realizou-se um pré-teste e um pós-teste para avaliar o desempenho da técnica do arremesso de forma isolada. Também aplicou-se um teste de transferência no formato de um jogo de 3 vs. 3. Os resultados indicaram que todos os grupos experimentais melhoraram de forma semelhante como consequência do treinamento, não diferindo no desempenho da técnica do arremesso do basquete no teste de forma isolada ou no jogo. O grupo sequencial obteve uma queda de desempenho semelhante ao grupo explícito no teste de transferência, o que pode ser devido a quantidade de conhecimento explícito acumulado por eles. Conclui-se que os efeitos da aprendizagem motora implícita e explícita são semelhantes quando realizadas em ambientes complexos com crianças.

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the effect of explicit and implicit learning in children, as well as a sequential application of learning modes, in the acquisition of the basketball shooting skill in an ecological setting. Participants (n=80) were novices in basketball, ages 9 to 12 years old. The experimental groups followed one of the three different methods of training, which combined technical and tactical aspects: (a) explicit, (b) implicit, or (c) sequential (implicit first and then explicit). The control group participated only in the measurements. A pre-test and a post-test measured the performance of basketball shooting skills in isolation. A transfer test in a 3-on-3 game condition was also applied. Results indicate that all intervention groups improved in a similar manner as a consequence of practice and there was no difference between the groups in the performance of the basketball shooting skill in isolation and under game condition. The sequential group obtained a performance drop similar to the explicit group in the transfer test, which may be due to the amount of explicit knowledge accumulated by them. The current findings indicate similar effects of implicit and explicit motor learning when they are applied in complex environments with children.

RESUMO O Efeito da Idade Relativa (EIR) e o Efeito do Ano Constituinte (EAC) parecem influenciar o processo de formação de jovens tenistas.O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar a presença desses efeitos no ranking de tenistas juniores da InternationalTennisFederation (ITF) e sua influência na pontuação obtida pelos tenistas. Os resultados encontrados demonstram a presença do EIR e do EAC (p ≤ 0,05). O modelo de regressão identificou que as variáveis “ano” e “mês” de nascimento predizem a pontuação dos atletas no ranking da ITF com uma variância explicada de 19%. Em conclusão, o ranking formado por várias faixas etárias não tem se mostrado uma estratégia de classificação sensível o bastante para prevenir o EIR e o EAC entre os tenistas juniores.

ABSTRACT Relative Age Effect (RAE) and Constituent Year Effect (CYE) seem to influence the process of training young tennis players. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of these effects in the ranking of junior tennis players of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and its influence on the score obtained by such tennis players. The results show the presence of the RAE and the CYE (p ≤ 0.05). The regression model identified that the variables "year" and "month" of birth predict the scores of athletes in the ITF ranking with an explained variance of 19%. In conclusion, the ranking composed of various age groups does not seem to be a classification strategy sensitive enough to prevent the RAE and the CYE among junior tennis players.

Resumo O estudo objetivou verificar a influência do nível da habilidade técnica na tomada de decisão de jogadores iniciantes de voleibol nas ações de saque, recepção e levantamento. A amostra foi composta por 80 atletas iniciantes de equipes escolares de voleibol de ambos os sexos. Com base nos resultados na Bateria de Testes de Habilidades de Voleibol, a amostra foi dividida em três grupos: baixo, intermediário e alto nível técnico, por meio da ANOVA One-Way. O grupo intermediário foi excluído das análises posteriores. A tomada de decisão foi avaliada por meio do Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI). Utilizou-se o teste t student independente para análise dos dados, adotando um nível de significância de p≤0,05. Os resultados encontrados demonstraram que os jogadores com baixo nível de habilidade nas ações de saque e levantamento, também obtiveram um pior desempenho no teste de tomada de decisão quando comparado aos jogadores de alto nível técnico. Por outro lado, na ação de recepção, não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre os grupos. Conclui-se que o nível técnico parece influenciar na tomada de decisão na ação de saque e levantamento dos jogadores iniciantes de voleibol.

Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the influence of the technical skills level on the decision making of novice volleyball players on service, reception and set actions. The sample was composed of 80 novice athletes of school volleyball teams of both sexes. Based on the results from the Volleyball Skills Test Battery, the sample was divided into three groups: low, intermediate and high technical level, by means of One-Way ANOVA. The intermediate group was excluded from further analyses. Decision making was assessed with the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI). For data analysis purposes, the independent student-t test was used, adopting significance level of p≤0.05. The results showed that players with low skill level in service and set actions also had lower performance on the decision-making test when compared to players with high technical level. On the other hand, in the reception action, no differences were found among groups. It was therefore concluded that the technical level seems to influence the decision making in service and set actions in novice volleyball players.

O objetivo deste estudo foi submeter o questionário Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) ao processo de validação transcultural da Escala de Motivação no Esporte para a língua portuguesa brasileira (EME-BR), verificando sua validade e aplicabilidade na população de jovens atletas brasileiros de futebol de alto nível. Participaram deste estudo 370 atletas. Utilizou-se o Instrumento denominado Escala de Motivação no Esporte - versão brasileira (EME-BR), no qual é composto por 28 itens, dividido em sete dimensões. Para a tradução e adaptação do instrumento, foram adotados os procedimentos sugeridos na literatura. Os resultados da análise fatorial confirmatória, demonstraram que com exceção do teste S-Bx² que foi significante (p < 0,001), todas as outras medidas de ajuste absoluto (GFI e RMSEA) e de ajuste incremental (NFI, NNFI e AGFI), apresentaram valores dentro dos aceitáveis pela literatura. No que diz respeito ao termo de confiabilidade interna, pode-se observar que somente duas dimensões atingiram o valor mínimo (> 0,70), entretanto, as demais dimensões, aproximam-se do índice desejável. Contudo, os resultados obtidos no presente estudo dão algum suporte para a validade da EME-BR com jogadores brasileiros jovens de futebol de alto nível.

The purpose of this study was to submit the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) questionnaire for the transculture validation of the Sport Motivation Scale for the Brazilian Portuguese language and analysis the validity and applicability in the High level Brazilian younger football players. 370 athletes participated of this study. Was used the Sport Motivation Scale for the Brazilian Portuguese language questionnaire consisting for the 28 questions, in 7 dimensions. For the translation and adaptation of the instrument was used the conduct suggest in literature. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that with the exception of S-Bx² that test was significant (p < 0.001), all other measures of absolute fit (GFI and RMSEA) and incremental fit (NFI, NNFI and AGFI), presented within the acceptable values in the literature. Regarding the completion of internal reliability, we can observe that only two dimensions have reached the minimum value (> 0.70), however, the other dimensions, closer to the desirable rate. However, the results showed in this study lend some support to the validity of the EME-BR with young Brazilian players to senior football.
