RESUMO Objetivo Verificar os efeitos de uma estratégia de aquecimento (AV) e desaquecimento vocal (DV) em professores. Método Estudo exploratório quase-experimental, cego ao avaliador, com grupo controle composto por professores de uma escola pública de ensino médio. Os professores, alocados no grupo experimental (GE), realizaram AV prévio e DV posterior à aula. Os professores do grupo controle (GC) não realizaram AV prévio e ficaram em repouso vocal após a aula. Compararam-se os dados intergrupos (GE vs. GC) e intragrupos (pré vs. pós-teste), segundo avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, análise acústica e desconforto autorreferido. Calcularam-se as médias dos indicadores acústicos e de desconforto; o percentual de melhora ou piora na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, considerando-se p<0,05 como nível de significância. Resultados GE e GC não diferiram entre si na análise intergrupos em nenhum dos indicadores avaliados. Na análise intragrupos, AV melhorou a qualidade vocal e reduziu o grau de desconforto no corpo; DV diminuiu tanto a frequência fundamental (f0) quanto o grau de desconforto, particularmente nos aspectos relacionados à voz. O repouso vocal não revelou diferença estatística. Conclusão AV demonstrou efeitos positivos na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva e no desconforto autorreferido (corpo). DV impactou f0 e desconforto autorreferido (voz). Devido ao caráter exploratório do estudo, não houve poder suficiente para demonstrar diferença na comparação entre GE e GC. Porém, os resultados obtidos indicam potencial proteção para a voz de professores, podendo ser incorporados no cotidiano de trabalho docente. Novos estudos controlados, com amostra aleatória e maior número de participantes, devem ser realizados para se comprovar tais resultados.

ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the effects of vocal warm-up (VWU) and vocal cool-down (VCD) strategies on teachers. Methods A quasi-experimental exploratory blind-evaluator study with control group that included teachers from a public secondary school. Teachers assigned to the experimental group (EG) performed VW prior to classes and VCD after classes. Teachers in the control group (CG) did not perform VWU and simply got voice rest after classes. Intergroup (EG vs. CG) and intragroup (pre-test versus post-test) comparisons were drawn from an auditory-perceptual evaluation, acoustic analysis, and self-reported discomfort. The mean acoustic and discomfort indicators and the percentage of improvement or worsening of vocal quality were calculated with a statistically significance level of p<0.05. Results EG and CG did not differ from each other in the intergroup analysis. The intragroup analysis showed that VWU improved voice quality and decreased the degree of body-related discomfort. VCD decreased both the fundamental frequency (f0) and the degree of discomfort, particularly in relation to the voice aspects. Vocal rest did not show any statistical difference. Conclusion VWU showed positive effects on the auditory-perceptual evaluation and self-reported discomfort (body). VCD impacted f0 and self-reported discomfort (voice). Due to the exploratory nature of the research, the statistical power was not enough to demonstrate a difference in the comparison between EG and CG. However, the results indicate a potential for protecting teachers’ voice and may be incorporated into daily work settings. Further controlled studies with random samples and greater numbers of participants should be conducted to confirm these results.

RESUMO Objetivo Comparar o índice de desvantagem vocal em cantores populares e eruditos profissionais de acordo com gênero, idade, tempo de atuação profissional e presença ou ausência de queixa vocal autorreferida. Método Participaram 132 cantores profissionais, 74 populares e 58 eruditos, que preencheram questionário com os dados: idade, gênero, tempo de experiência profissional no canto, gênero musical (cantores populares), classificação vocal (cantores eruditos), presença de queixa vocal autorreferida, além dos protocolos específicos para canto popular (Índice de Desvantagem Vocal para o Canto Moderno - IDCM) e erudito (Índice de Desvantagem Vocal para o Canto Clássico - IDCC). Resultados Houve maior proporção de mulheres e maior ocorrência de queixa vocal nos cantores populares, comparados aos eruditos. A maioria dos populares pertencia ao gênero da música popular brasileira. Quanto à classificação vocal dos eruditos, houve maior participação de sopranos e tenores. Não houve diferença estatística para idade e tempo de canto entre os grupos. Ao comparar os escores de IDCM e IDCC, nos populares e eruditos, não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre tais escores e o gênero e idade. O tempo de experiência profissional relacionou-se com escores total e subescalas incapacidade e defeito do IDCM, apenas para cantores populares com queixa. Nos eruditos não houve correlação entre essas variáveis e IDCC. Conclusão O impacto da dificuldade/problema vocal interfere de formas diferentes nos dois gêneros musicais, quando relacionados com a queixa vocal e o tempo de atuação profissional. Os protocolos IDCM e IDCC mostraram ser importantes não apenas para a identificação de problemas, mas como ferramenta para a compreensão essencial de como esses sujeitos relacionam a voz com a atividade ocupacional.

ABSTRACT Purpose To compare the voice handicap index of popular and erudite professional singers according to gender, age, professional experience time, and presence or absence of self-reported vocal complaints. Methods One hundred thirty-two professional singers, 74 popular and 58 erudite, who responded to a questionnaire with regards to identification, age, gender, professional experience time in singing, musical genres (for popular singers), vocal classification (for erudite singers), presence of self-reported vocal complaints, and the specific protocols for popular (Modern Singing Handicap Index - MSHI) and erudite (Classical Singing Handicap Index - CSHI) singing. Results Higher proportion of women and higher incidence of vocal complaints were observed in the popular singers compared with the erudite singers. Most of the popular singers belonged to the genre of Brazilian Popular Music. Regarding the classification of erudite singers, there was greater participation of sopranos and tenors. No statistical differences were observed with respect to age and professional experience time between the groups. Comparison of the MSHI and CSHI scores showed no statistically significant difference between these scores and genre or age in both groups of singers. Professional experience time was related to the total score and the subscales disability and impairment in the MSHI, only for popular singers with vocal complaints. There was no correlation between these variables and the CSHI for erudite singers. Conclusion The impact of vocal difficulty/problem interferes differently in these two musical genres when related to vocal complaint and professional experience time. The MSHI and CSHI protocols proved to be important tools not only for the identification of problems, but also for the understanding of how these individuals relate their voices with this occupational activity.

Objetivo Identificar a idade de diagnóstico, intervenção e amplificação pré e pós-implantação da Triagem Auditiva Neonatal (TAN) em um serviço de saúde auditiva e comparar aos indicadores propostos pelo Comitê Conjunto para Audição Infantil.Métodos Trezentos e treze prontuários de crianças atendidas no setor de reabilitação auditiva foram analisados, verificando se foi realizada a triagem auditiva e seu resultado, suspeita e idade de diagnóstico, intervenção e amplificação e se estas últimas atendiam aos indicadores preconizados: três meses para diagnóstico e seis meses para intervenção.Resultados Crianças identificadas pela TAN foram diagnosticadas e iniciaram a intervenção mais cedo do que as que não realizaram. Considerando-se a demanda institucional pré e pós a implantação da TAN, observou-se redução da idade de intervenção e amplificação após a implantação. Independentemente do resultado obtido na TAN (passa/falha), as crianças que passaram pela triagem apresentaram vantagem, quando comparadas às não triadas, uma vez que, dentre as triadas, antecipou-se o diagnóstico, a intervenção e a amplificação. Menos da metade das crianças que falharam na TAN concluíram o diagnóstico e iniciaram a intervenção no tempo preconizado.Conclusão A TAN antecipou o diagnóstico e a intervenção em crianças com perda auditiva. Contudo, fatores como a não adesão da família e as peculiaridades do diagnóstico retardaram os processos, impedindo que os indicadores preconizados fossem alcançados, na maior parte das crianças.

Purpose To identify the age at diagnosis, intervention and amplification, pre and post Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS) implantation into a hearing health service and to compare with the indicators proposed by Joint Committee on Infant Hearing.Methods Three hundred and thirteen files of children enrolled in the auditory rehabilitation sector were analyzed, verifying if the newborn hearing screening and its results were performed, suspicion and age at the diagnosis, intervention and amplification and if they reach the recommended indicators: 3 months for diagnosis and 6 months for intervention.Results Children identified by the NHS were diagnosed and started the intervention sooner than those who did not perform newborn hearing screening. Considering the institutional demand pre and post NHS implementation, there was a reduction of intervention and amplification ages, post newborn hearing screening implementation. Regardless the NHS outcome (pass/fail), screened children had advantage when compared to the non-screened ones, once, among those screened, the diagnosis, intervention and amplification were anticipated. Less than a half of the children who failed NHS completed the diagnosis and began the intervention in the recommended period.Conclusion NHS anticipates the diagnosis and the intervention in children with hearing loss; however, some factors such as family non-adherence and the diagnosis slowed the process, making it impossible for the recommended indicators to be reached in most of the children.
