Abstract Mangrove forests are ecosystems naturally susceptible to environmental stresses, such as rising sea level and coastal erosion. However, the anthropic stresses, such as real estate speculation, deforestation and water pollution, put at risk this environment’s stability, interfering with its balance. The present work’s aim is to perform a temporal analysis of the mangrove forest that is a part of the Mocajuba river hydrographic basin and its buffer zone, as well as identifying natural and anthropic stresses to which the mangroves are susceptible. It was verified that the mangrove forest areas presented a substantial reduction between 1984 and 1999, and a small loss between 1999 and 2018. Thus, in the mangrove forest buffer zone, the anthropized areas increased while the forest areas decreased, demonstrating the deforestation in these areas. It can be concluded that the mangrove forest in the study region present a regression.

Resumo A bacia hidrográfica do rio Guamá abrange 19 municípios localizados no nordeste do Pará, com grande diversidade de formas de uso da terra e a maior densidade demográfica do estado. Nesta pesquisa foi avaliada sua sustentabilidade hídrica, a partir dos aspectos hidrológicos, ambientais, sociais e de gestão, nas suas 8 sub-bacias componentes. O indicador hidrológico demonstrou um comportamento mediano para às sub-bacias; o ambiental destacou a fragilidade da cobertura vegetal resiliente; o social apresentou o pior desempenho; e o de gestão indicou a necessidade do fortalecimento institucional. A bacia do rio Guamá no geral obteve um índice de sustentabilidade intermediário, porém os resultados parciais apontam para necessidade de medidas voltadas ao planejamento estratégico e ao manejo, para minimizar as pressões sobre a vegetação remanescente, reforçar a capacidade institucional e melhorar a qualidade dos recursos e de vida da população, com a intenção de potencializar a sustentabilidade da bacia.

Abstract The Guamá River basin covers 19 municipalities located in northeastern Pará, with great diversity of land use forms and the highest population density of the state. In this research, its water sustainability was evaluated, based on the hydrological, environmental, social and management aspects, in its 8 sub-basins. The hydrological indicator showed a medium behavior for the sub-basins; the environmental highlighted the fragility of the resilient vegetal cover; the social performance presented the worst performance; and the management pointed out the need for institutional strengthening. The Guamá river basin in general obtained an intermediate sustainability index, but the partial results indicated that for measures geared to the strategic planning and management, to minimize pressures on the remaining vegetation, enhancing institutional capacity and improving the quality of life of the population and resources, with the intention of enhancing the sustainability of the basin.

Abstract The impacts of anthropogenic degradation are becoming increasingly more evident in the Amazon and are jeopardizing its environmental systems and water resources, particularly in low monitored watersheds. Thus, the use of hydrological models is necessary to gain an understanding of these impacts on Amazonian river systems. The aim of this study was to analyze the simulation of some hydrological processes in the Itacaiúnas River watershed and its relation with human-induced impacts in the Southeast region of the Pará state using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. SWAT modeling requires several databases, such as relief, land use and land occupation, soil type, and climatic and hydrological variables. These data are input parameters for the SWAT model. The results showed that the hydrological variables in the Amazon tend to follow the seasonal precipitation cycle, with the highest values occurring between January and June and lowest between July and November. It was evident that base and lateral flows are responsible for maintaining perennial river flow during the dry season. Regarding anthropogenic actions in the watershed, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and sediment transportation are clearly affected by environmental degradation, as well as by the replacement of forest by grassland and mining activities. The results may assist in public policy including mitigation and adaptation of environmental systems in the region. In addition, they can improve the management of natural resources in the Itacaiúnas River watershed.

Resumo O objetivo desta pesquisa foi classificar a vulnerabilidade social em Altamira-PA, considerando a ocorrência das cheias sazonais e o cenário futuro de estabilização do nível d´água na cota de cheias. Para determinar o Índice de Vulnerabilidade Social foram utilizados dados de cota fornecidos pela ANA e variáveis socioeconômicas do IBGE. Os resultados indicam uma vulnerabilidade de moderada a baixa que não reflete o ambiente sócio espacial da área, onde é recorrente a superação do nível de alerta de 6 m durante as cheias do rio Xingu. A Usina Hidrelétrica de Belo Monte irá regularizar a manutenção do nível das cheias, o que implica na demanda de um planejamento urbano que reduza os passivos gerados tanto pela manutenção das áreas alagadas, quanto pelo amplo remanejamento de pessoas, além dos estudos que avaliem a influência e consequência dos eventos extremos na região.

Abstract The objective of this research was to classify the social vulnerability in Altamira-PA, considering the occurrence of seasonal floods and the future scenario of stabilization of the water level in the flood quota. The Social Vulnerability Index was determined by using fluviometric station data provided by ANA and socioeconomic variables from IBGE. The results indicate a moderate to low vulnerability that does not reflect the socio-spatial environment of the area, where the alert level of 6 m is recurrently exceeded during the floods of the Xingu river. The Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant will ensure the maintenance of the level of floods, which implies in the demand of urban planning that can reduce the liabilities generated by both the maintenance of wetlands, and for the extensive relocation of people, in addition by studies that assess the influence and consequence of extreme events in the region.

Resumen El objetivo de esta investigación fue clasificar la vulnerabilidad social en Altamira-PA, considerando la ocurrencia de las inundaciones estacionales y el escenario futuro de estabilización del nivel de agua en la cuota de inundaciones. Para determinar el Índice de Vulnerabilidad Social se utilizaron datos de cuota proporcionados por ANA y variables socioeconómicas del IBGE. Los resultados indican una vulnerabilidad de moderada a baja, que no refleja el entorno socio - espacial de la zona, que se repite la superación de nivel de alerta 6 metros durante la inundación del río Xingu. La planta hidroeléctrica de Belo Monte regulará para mantener el nivel de las inundaciones, lo que implica la demanda de planificación urbana que reduce los pasivos generados por tanto el mantenimiento de las zonas húmedas, como la amplia reorganización de las personas, y por estudios de evaluación de la influencia y los efectos de eventos extremos en la región.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar informações socioambientais por meio de rede neural artificial-mapa auto-organizável (RNA-SOM), para fornecer subsídio ao zoneamento ecológico econômico (ZEE) como instrumento para diminuir a subjetividade do processo. A área de estudo compreende 16 municípios do Nordeste Paraense, expressivos no desenvolvimento agropecuário do estado. O tratamento dos dados envolveu três etapas: preparação dos dados em ambiente de sistema de informação geográfica (SIG); processamento matemático (RNA-SOM) dos dados; e visualização e interpretação dos resultados dos processamentos, o que permitiu o ordenamento territorial do Nordeste Paraense. Os resultados compreenderam 13 classes, reagrupadas de acordo com critérios de similaridade de comportamento em quatro categorias, que representam os principais eixos de sustentabilidade propostos para o Estado do Pará, a partir do ZEE existente. A metodologia proposta permite individualizar zonas na região que o ZEE não havia definido, principalmente em razão da maior possibilidade de conjugar e integrar um grande número de variáveis físicas, sociais e econômicas por meio do SOM.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to analyze social and environmental information through an artificial neural network-self-organizing map (ANN-SOM), in order to provide subsidy to ecological-economic zoning (EEZ) as a tool to reduce the subjectivity of the process. The study area comprises 16 municipalities in the northeast of the state of Pará, Brazil, representative of the agricultural development in the state. Data processing involved three steps: preparation of the data in a geographic information system (GIS) environment; mathematical processing (ANN-SOM) of the data; and visualization and interpretation of the processing results, allowing the spatial planning of northeastern Pará. The results comprised 13 classes, regrouped according to behavioral similarity criteria into four categories, which represent the main areas of sustainability proposed for the state of Pará, according to existing EEZ. The proposed methodology allows individualizing areas in the region that EEZ had not defined, mainly due to the greater possibility of combining and integrating a large number of physical, social, and economic variables through the SOM.

Resumo A bacia do rio Moju apresenta diferentes padrões de usos da terra decorrentes de um histórico de expansão do setor agrícola e extrativista no estado. Está inserida na área de projetos desenvolvimentistas da região, com ênfase para a cadeia produtiva do dendê. No presente trabalho, realizou-se um zoneamento da bacia do rio Moju evidenciando a interconexão entre os principais usos e cobertura da terra e os usos da água, demonstrando as pressões sobre os recursos naturais que a bacia está sofrendo. O zoneamento é o produto resultante da associação entre o mapeamento de uso e cobertura da terra e as categorias de usuários da água dos municípios componentes da bacia. Os resultados demonstraram que a maior parcela de usos outorgados tem finalidade industrial, sendo a captação subterrânea massivamente superior a superficial, onde o principal outorgado é a agroindústria do dendê. Somente um pequeno número de habitantes são atendidos pela distribuição de água e ocorrem grandes perdas no sistema de distribuição. A sub-bacia Alto Moju sofre alta pressão sobre os seus recursos naturais. Nota-se que a bacia como um todo ainda possui a maior parte de seu território com cobertura florestal, entretanto a pastagem e a vegetação secundária ocupam áreas expressivas. Em geral, percebe-se que o maior desafio está em alinhar o gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos com uma gestão eficiente de uso do solo.

Abstract The Moju River Basin presents different patterns of land use resulting from a historic expansion of the agricultural and extractive sector in the state. It is embedded in the area of developmental projects in the region, with emphasis on the palm oil productive chain. In the present work, a zoning of the Moju River Basin has been carried out, evidencing the interconnection between the land use and land cover and the water use, showing the pressures on the natural resources that the basin is undertaking. The zoning is a product resulting from the association between land use and land cover mapping, and the categories of water users of the municipalities that compound the basin. The results showed that the greatest water user grant has industrial purpose, with underground extraction massively than the superficial, where the palm oil industry has the highest water use grant. Only a small number of inhabitants are served by water distribution and there are high rates of loss in the distribution system. The Alto Moju sub-basin suffers high pressure on its natural resources. We noticed that the basin as a whole has most of its territory covered by forest, although pasture and secondary vegetation are also expressive. In general, we observed that the biggest challenge is to align the management of water resources and efficient land use.

Resumo Estudos na área da hidrologia mostraram que podemos evitar desastres naturais através de previsões hidrológicas. Nesse trabalho foi utilizada a metodologia de Box-Jenkins de séries temporais multivariadas para previsão diária de nível fluviométrico do rio Tocantins para o município de Marabá-PA, que sofre anualmente com eventos de enchentes, ocasionado pelo aumento periódico do rio Tocantins e pela situação de vulnerabilidade da população que residem em áreas de riscos. Foram utilizados dados de níveis diários observados nas estações fluviométricas de Marabá e Carolina e Conceição do Araguaia da Agência Nacional de Águas (ANA), do período de 01/12/2008 a 31/03/2011. Evidenciou-se que o modelo ajustado conseguiu capturar a dinâmica das séries temporais, com bons prognósticos para o período de sete dias, com erro absoluto máximo de 0,08m, e com precisão na previsão acima de 99,00%. Assim, a pesquisa mostrou que o modelo de previsão teve um bom ajuste apresentando bons resultados, podendo ser utilizado como ferramentas de apoio para Defesa Civil, auxiliando no planejamento e preparo de ações preventivas para o município de Marabá.

Abstract Hydrology studies show that it is possible to avoid natural disasters through the proper use of hydrological forecasts. In this work we used the Box-Jenkins Methodology (Time Series Analysis) to model the daily level of the Tocantins river in the city of Maraba - PA, in order to predict floods caused by its regular increase, an event that usually puts the resident population of risk areas in vulnerable situations. For the study, we used the daily levels of data observed in gauged stations of Maraba and Carolina and Conceição do Araguaia National Water Agency (ANA), the period of 01/12/2008 to 31/03/2011. It was evident that the adjusted model was able to capture the dynamics of time series with good prognosis for a period of seven days with a maximum absolute error of 0.08 m and with precision in forecasting over 99%. The forecasting model showed good results and can then be used as support tools for Civil Defense, assisting in the planning and preparation of preventive actions for the city of Maraba.

A região Noroeste da Província Borborema apresenta uma diversidade de corpos graníticos de natureza e evolução tectônica diversificadas, do Paleoproterozoico ao Paleozoico, com maior incidência relacionada ao Neoproterozoico e alojamento em diferentes fases da orogenia Brasiliana. Um desses exemplos é o Granito Chaval, que representa um batólito aflorante próximo à costa Atlântica do Ceará e Piauí, intrusivo em ortognaisses do Complexo Granja e supracrustais do Grupo Martinópole. Ele é, em parte, coberto por depósitos cenozoicos costeiros e rochas sedimentares paleozoicas da Bacia do Parnaíba. O Granito Chaval tem como característica marcante a textura porfirítica, destacando-se megacristais de microclina, em sienogranitos e monzogranitos, e outras feições texturais/estruturais de origem magmática, Essas permitiram interpretar sua evolução como de alojamento relativamente raso do plúton, conduzido por processos de cristalização fracionada, mistura de magmas com fluxo magmático e ação gravitacional em função da diferença de densidade do magma, levando à flutuação e ascensão de megacristais de microclina no magma residual, com alojamento de leucogranitos e pegmatitos nos estágios finais da evolução deste plutonismo. Por outro lado, em toda a metade Leste do plúton, encontra-se um rico acervo de estruturas tectógenas de cisalhamento, relacionada à implantação da Zona de Cisalhamento Transcorrente Santa Rosa, que levou a transformações tectonometamórficas superpostas às feições magmáticas, as quais atingiram condições metamórficas máximas na fácies anfibolito baixo. Cartograficamente, foram individualizados três domínios estruturais em que estão presentes uma gama de variações petroestruturais do Granito Chaval, sejam feições texturais/estruturais ígneas e tectônicas. As rochas plutônicas foram deformadas e modificadas progressivamente à medida que se dirige para Leste, no qual as rochas mudam-se para tonalidades mais escuras do cinza e os processos de cominuição e recristalização dinâmica reduzem, progressivamente, a granulação grossa desses granitos bem como o tamanho dos fenocristais para dimensões mais finas, mantendo-se suas características porfiroides. Desse modo, a trama milonítica se torna evidente, acentuando-se ao atingir a porção principal da Zona de Cisalhamento Transcorrente Santa Rosa. Como principais feições estruturais, destacam-se extinção ondulante forte; encurvamento e segmentação de cristais; geminação de deformação; rotação de cristais; microbudinagem; foliação anastomosada, inclusive S-C; lineação de estiramento; formas amendoadas de porfiroclastos, fitas e folhas de quartzo e recristalização. Os produtos desses processos de cisalhamento resultam na formação de protomilonitos, milonitos e ultramilonitos. Essas faixas miloníticas representam os locais de maior concentração da deformação, por isso é possível acompanhar progressivamente suas modificações texturais e mineralógicas, configurando uma sequência clássica de deformação progressiva heterogênea, por cisalhamento simples, em condições frágil-dúctil e dúctil. O alojamento do Granito Chaval aconteceu no final do Criogeniano (aproximadamente 630 Ma) e pode ser interpretado como magmatismo sin a tardi-tectônico em relação ao evento Brasiliano. O processo de cisalhamento que gerou a Zona de Cisalhamento Transcorrente Santa Rosa se formou nos incrementos finais da deformação de uma colisão continental em um sistema de cavalgamento oblíquo, em que se edificou o Cinturão de Cisalhamento Noroeste do Ceará, devido ao extravasamento lateral de massas crustais em fluxo dúctil acontecido no final da orogenia Brasiliana no Noroeste da Província Borborema.

The Northwestern region of Borborema Province features a wide variety of granitic bodies with diverse nature and tectonic evolution, since the Paleoproterozoic to Early Paleozoic, presenting higher incidence related to Neoproterozoic emplaced at different stages of Brasiliano (Panafrican) orogeny. One of these examples is the Chaval Granite representing a batholith body intruded in orthogneisses of Granja Complex and supracrustal rocks of Martinópole Group, outcropped near the Ceará and Piauí Atlantic coasts, Northeastern Brazil. The batholith is partly covered by Cenozoic coastal deposits and sedimentary rocks of the Paleozoic Parnaíba Basin. The Chaval Granite has a striking textural feature, which is represented by porphyritic highlighting microcline megacrysts in syenogranites and monzogranites, and many others textural/structural features of magmatic origin. They allowed interpreting the plutonic evolution at relatively shallow crustal level emplacement acting processes of fractional crystallization, magma mixing with intense magmatic flow, and gravitational force due to density difference of magma that lead to fluctuation of megacrysts of microcline and plagioclase in the residual magma, and accommodation of small bodies of leucogranite and pegmatites in the final stages of plutonic magmatic evolution of such plutonism. On the other hand, across the Eastern half of the pluton, there is a rich collection of shear structures related to the tectonic construction of the Santa Rosa Transcurrent Shear Zone, which led to tectono-metamorphic transformations superimposed on magmatic features that reached peak metamorphic conditions in the low amphibolite facies. Cartographically, three homogeneous structural domains were individualized, and each of them presents a variety of petrographic-structural features of the Chaval of igneous or tectonic nature. The plutonic rocks were deformed and progressively modified Eastward, in which the rocks change to darker gray, and comminution and dynamic recrystallization processes are reduced, as well as the coarse-grained granites are progressively, as well as the size of the phenocrysts to thinner dimensions, keeping their porphyroid characteristics, being accentuated the mylonitic features to achieve the main portion of Santa Rosa Transcurrent Shear Zone. As main structural features, there is the ondulatory extinction, cleavage and twining bending, twinning deformation, anastomosing foliation, badinage, S-C foliation, mineral stretching lineation, rotated and segmented crystals, lenticular, almondy or fish forms of porphyroclasts, pressure shadow, and ribbon quartz. The products of this shear deformation result in the formation of protomylonites, mylonites, and ultramylonites. These mylonite zones represent areas with the highest concentration of deformation that can gradually follow their textural and mineralogical changes, setting up a classic sequence of progressive heterogeneous deformation by simple shear in brittle-ductile and ductile conditions. The emplacement of Chaval Granite happened at the end of the Cryogenian (approximately 630 Ma) and can be interpreted as syn-tardi tectonic magmatism regarding the Brasiliano event. The process that generated the Santa Rosa Shear Zone resulted from lateral extravasation crustal masses in ductile flow took place in the final increments of deformation of a continental collision on an oblique thrust system, which built the Northwest Ceará Shear Belt, and happened at the end of Brasiliano (Panafrican) orogeny in Northwest Borborema Province.

A região Amazônica, detentora de grande potencial hídrico, tem atraído indústrias que promovem uso intensivo de água, por isso, existe uma emergência por instrumentos que administrem essa tendência. Neste trabalho foi diagnosticado o nível de racionalização do uso da água pelo setor industrial de produção de bebidas no estado do Pará, assim como as causas do comportamento do setor. As variáveis dependentes (de comportamento) foram classificadas de acordo com quatro dimensões (gestão ambiental, manejo da água, manejo dos efluentes e medidas avançadas de racionalização) que compõe o nível de racionalização da gestão industrial hídrica. As variáveis independentes foram associadas ao: porte, ramo, tipo de embalagem utilizada, disponibilidade hídrica e valor econômico da água. Os dados levantados mostraram que a produção de bebidas tem uma grande pegada hídrica operacional total (acima de) 15.250 m³/dia, com as pequenas empresas apresentando o maior consumo relativo por unidade produzida (maior que 7 L de água/L de bebida). O setor como um todo apresenta baixo nível de racionalização do uso da água, a dimensão mais eficiente é a de gerenciamento da água; entretanto algumas medidas avançadas podem ser visualizadas, especialmente a recirculação da água em torres de resfriamento. A análise das variáveis de estudo demonstra que o nível de racionalização é dependente diretamente do ramo e do porte da empresa. Conclui-se que o consumo tende ao desperdício; em resposta a este quadro, devem ser priorizadas políticas públicas voltadas para internalização dos custos ambientais embutidos no processo.

The Amazon region, with a high hydric potential, has attracted companies that require significant volumes of water; therefore, control instruments are necessary to monitor this trend. In this study, the degree of rationing of water use by beverage industries in Para state and the behavior of the sector are discussed. The subjects' variables were classified according to four study dimensions (environmental management, water management, wastewater management, and advanced measures for rationing) that compose the rationing level of water industrial management. The independent variables were associated by size, industry type, packaging used, water availability and the economic value of water. The data show that beverage production has a significant water footprint, higher than 15,250 m³/day, and that small industries have the highest relative consumptions (more than 7 L of water/beverage L). In general, the sector does not ration significant quantities of water; a better result was obtained for water management. However, some more efficient measures could be adopted, especially with regard to water reuse in cooling towers. Analysis of the variables shows that the rationing level is directly dependent on the size of the industry and on the type of product. Consumption tends to be lavish. In response to this situation, public policies should be prioritized to determine the water footprint of products and environmental cost should be considered in the overall cost of production.
