Resumo A produção de mudas de nogueira-pecan tem ganhado força nas últimas décadas, principalmente na região sul do Brasil, e esse aumento na demanda, consequentemente, intensifica os estudos sobre problemas fitossanitários presentes na cultura nessa região. A qualidade sanitária é um fator importante na produção de mudas florestais, tendo em vista a ocorrência de doenças em todas as etapas do processo produtivo. Em abril de 2021, foram observadas manchas foliares escuras e irregulares em mudas de nogueira-pecan em condições de viveiro. A evolução dos sintomas causava queda dos folíolos e comprometimento no desenvolvimento das plantas, devido à redução da sua área fotossintética. Verificou-se que se tratava do efeito causal de um fungo, que foi isolado em meio batata-dextrose-ágar (BDA), tendo, posteriormente, sua patogenicidade constatada em folíolos destacados de nogueira-pecan. Discos de 4 mm da cultura pura do isolado de Phomopsis sp. foram dispostos na superfície de folíolos sadios, previamente feridos com agulha histológica esterilizada. Após a inoculação, os folíolos foram acondicionados em caixas gerbox forradas com duas folhas de papel-filtro esterilizadas e umedecidas com água destilada esterilizada e mantidas em câmara de incubação durante sete dias a 25 ± 2ºC e fotoperíodo de 12 h. Foram utilizados oito folíolos sadios como testemunha, os quais foram submetidos às mesmas condições, utilizando apenas discos de meio de cultura BDA. O isolado mostrou-se patogênico, com os primeiros sintomas após 6 dias da inoculação. As lesões, inicialmente circulares e necróticas, foram coalescendo e aos 10 dias atingiram 16 mm. Foi realizado o reisolamento assim que as estruturas reprodutivas do fungo apareceram, essas foram transferidas para placas de Petri com meio de cultura BDA. O fungo causador dos sintomas foi identificado como Phomopsis sp., e este trabalho apresenta o primeiro relato da ocorrência de mancha foliar de Phomopsis sp. em Carya illinoinensis em condições de viveiro no Brasil.

Abstract Pecan seedlings production has increased in recent decades, especially in southern Brazil, consequently, intensifies studies in crop phytosanitary problems in this region. Sanitary quality is an important factor in the production of forest seedlings, considering the occurrence of diseases in all stages of the production process. In April 2021, dark and irregular leaf spots were observed in pecan seedlings under nursery conditions. The evolution of symptoms caused leaf drop and compromised plant development, due to the reduction of their photosynthetic area. It was verified that it was a fungus, which was isolated on potato-dextrose-agar (PDA) medium, and later had its pathogenicity verified in detached pecan leaflets. Four-mm disks of the pure culture of the Phomopsis sp. were placed on the surface of healthy leaflets, previously injuredwith a sterilized histological needle. After inoculation, the leaflets were placed in gerbox boxes lined with two sheets of sterilized filter paper and moistened with sterilized distilled water and kept in an incubation chamber for seven days at 25 ± 2ºC and 12 h photoperiod. Eight healthy leaflets were used as controls, which were subjected to the same conditions, except for fungus inoculation, using only disks of PDA culture medium. The isolate proved to be pathogenic, with the first symptoms after 6 days of inoculation, the initially circular and necrotic lesions coalesced and at 10 days reached 16 mm. The re-isolation was carried out as soon as the reproductive structures of the fungus appeared, these were transferred to Petri dishes with PDA culture medium. The fungus causing the symptoms was identified as Phomopsis sp. and, this work presents the first report of the occurrence of Phomopsis sp. in Carya illinoinensis under nursery conditions in Brazil.

Abstract It was impregnated commercial titanium dioxide into Pinus elliottii wood, aiming to increase its durability against the attack of brown rot fungus Postia placenta and photodegradation caused by ultraviolet radiation. The samples were put under 8 bar pressure for 3 hours at different concentrations of TiO2 (0.5%, 0.25%, 0.124% and 0%-control). To evaluate the effect of the fungus on the wood, the test was carried out according to ASTM D2017-05 and UNE-EN 113:1996 with modifications. The photodegradation was performed by exposing a tangential section to ultraviolet radiation for 400 hours, and the colorimetric parameters were periodically evaluated. Statistically, the treatments with TiO2 did not differ among themselves, but were much lower than the control, showing the effectiveness of this product in protecting the wood against the attacks of degraders. As for the photodegradation, the treated wood remained practically unchanged, differently from the control that had a darkening accelerated mainly in the first 50 hours. With this information, it can be stated that TiO2 treated wood is able to hinder the fungus access to the cell wall, to inhibit its growth and to create a barrier that protects the polymers from photodegradation, increasing its durability and emerging as a potential alternative for wood treatment.

Resumen Se impregnó dióxido de titanio comercial en la madera de Pinus elliottii, con el objetivo de aumentar su durabilidad contra el ataque del hongo pardo de la Postia placenta y la fotodegradación causada por la radiación ultravioleta. Las muestras se pusieron a una presión de 8 bar durante 3 horas a diferentes concentraciones de TiO2 (0.5%, 0.25%, 0.124% y 0% de control). Para evaluar el efecto del hongo en la madera, la prueba se realizó de acuerdo con la norma ASTM D2017-05 y UNE-EN 113:1996 con modificaciones. La fotodegradación se realizó exponiendo una sección tangencial a radiación ultravioleta durante 400 horas, y los parámetros colorimétricos se evaluaron periódicamente. Estadísticamente, los tratamientos con TiO2 no diferían entre sí, pero eran mucho más bajos que el control, mostrando la efectividad de este producto en la protección de la madera contra los ataques de los degradadores. En cuanto a la fotodegradación, la madera tratada se mantuvo prácticamente sin cambios, a diferencia del control que tuvo un oscurecimiento acelerado principalmente en las primeras 50 horas. Con esta información, se puede afirmar que la madera tratada con TiO2 puede dificultar el acceso del hongo a la pared celular, inhibir su crecimiento y crear una barrera que protege a los polímeros de la fotodegradación, aumentando su durabilidad y emergiendo como una alternativa potencial para tratamiento de la madera.

Abstract: The aim of the present study is to subject Pinus elliottii wood specimens to TiO2-based modification in order to make them resistant to water and UV radiation. The microwave-assisted solvothermal method, which is little reported in the literature, was here in use for this purpose. The adopted methodology led to a 1 % mass gain; although it was a low value, it was enough to fully coat the surface of the wood with nanoparticles to the extent of changing its characteristics and turning it into a functional material. The nanoparticle distribution on the surface of the wood changed your natural topography by increasing the surface area and, consequently, increasing the contact angle of the modified wood (approximately 130°). The leaching test showed that the wood remained coated after it was immersed in water, as well as that it did not lose its water-repelling ability. This result demonstrates the stable interaction between the two materials, due to hydroxyl radicals found in them. The coating also protected the wood against UV radiation for 500 hours of intense exposure, besides preserving its initial color. The properties achieved through this simple and fast modification process provide an alternative to help to improve the performance of the herein investigated wood species, mainly for applications in environments subjected to high solar incidence and humidity.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do período de coleta e da aplicação exógena de ácido indolbutírico (AIB) no enraizamento de estacas de plantas adultas de nogueira-pecã (Carya illinoinensis). O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação com irrigação por nebulização intermitente, de dezembro de 2017 a outubro de 2018. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 4x5, com quatro períodos de coleta (primavera, verão, outono e inverno) e cinco concentrações de AIB (0, 2.000, 4.000, 6.000 e 8.000 mg L-1). Para as estacas coletadas durante o verão e o outono, observou-se relação linear entre o enraizamento e o aumento da concentração de AIB. Os melhores resultados para enraizamento, formação de calo, número médio de raízes, comprimento médio de raízes, e massa seca e fresca de raízes são obtidos para as estacas coletadas durante o verão, com a aplicação de 8.000 mg L-1 de AIB na base de cada estaca, em sistema de irrigação por nebulização. O enraizamento de estacas de plantas adultas de nogueira-pecã com a aplicação de AIB é possível, sendo um método de propagação alternativo para a espécie.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the collection period and of the exogenous application of indolebutyric acid (IBA) on the rooting of cuttings from adult pecan (Carya illinoinensis) plants. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with intermittent mist irrigation, from December 2017 to October 2018. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 4x5 factorial arrangement, with four collection periods (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) and five concentrations of IBA (0, 2,000, 4,000, 6,000, and 8,000 mg L-1). For the cuttings collected during summer and autumn, there was a linear relationship between rooting and the increase of the IBA concentration. The best results for rooting, callus formation, mean number of roots, mean root length, and root dry and fresh mass are obtained for the cuttings collected during summer, with the application of 8,000 mg L-1 IBA on the base of each cutting, under a mist irrigation system. The rooting of cuttings from adult pecan plants with the application of IBA is possible, being an alternative propagation method for the species.

Lupinus albescens é uma espécie frequente nos locais de arenização no Rio Grande do Sul, com alta rusticidade e rápida cobertura vegetal, mostrando potencialidades para recomposição de áreas degradadas. O objetivo foi avaliar a emergência e o desenvolvimento de L. albescens, com e sem aplicação de adubação mineral consorciada com a palmeira Butia lallemantii Deble & Marchiori. Sementes foram coletadas em três populações e submetidas à escarificação por 40 segundos. A sementeira foi feita entre nove fileiras (2 x 1 m) de B. lallemantii aplicando-se 0 e 30 g/cova do fertilizante mineral NPK (5-20-20). Avaliações: número de plantas por cova (NPC), altura (cm) e diâmetro do caule (mm), nos períodos de 30 e 60 dias, assim como a percentagem de emergência de plantas/m² (PEP) e o total emergência de plantas (TEP) ao longo de 240 dias, utilizando delineamento em blocos casualizados. Os resultados mostraram considerável PEP e altura aos 30 dias para as plantas do bloco 2. Dose de 0g/cova do fertilizante NPK proporcionou maior NPH. Portanto, a sementeira de L. albescens consorciada com B. lallemantii apresentou maior PEP, NPC sem o uso de adubação (30 dias) e maior altura das plantas entre as plântulas de diâmetro do estipe médio.

Lupinus albescens is a species frequent in the locals under arenization in Rio Grande do Sul, with high rusticity and rapid land cover, showing potentialities for recomposition of degraded areas. The objective was to evaluate the emergence and development of L. albescens, with and without mineral fertilizer application intercropped with the palm Butia lallemantii Deble & Marchiori. Seeds were collected in three populations and submitted to the scarification for 40 seconds. Sowing was done between nine rows (2 x 1 m) of B. lallemantii by applying 0 and 30 g/hole of the mineral fertilizer NPK (5-20-20). Evaluations: number of plants per hole (NPH), height (cm) and stem diameter (mm), in the periods of 30 and 60 days, as well as the percentage of plants emergence/m² (PEP) and the total of plants emergence (TEP) over 240 days, using randomized block design. The results showed a considerable PEP and height at 30 days for the plants in block 2. Dose of 0g/hole of fertilizer NPK provided higher NPH. Therefore, sowing of L. albescens intercropped with B. lallemantii presented higher PEP, NPH without the use of fertilization (30 days) and higher height of the plants among the diameter seedlings of the medium stipe.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento de isolados de Ceratocystis fimbriata obtidos de kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa) em mudas de acácia-negra (Acacia mearnsii De Wild.), o potencial de biocontrole in vitro de Bacillus subtilis sobre C. fimbriata e o comportamento in vivo de B. subtilis contra C. fimbriata em mudas de acácia-negra. Isolados de C. fimbriata obtidos e identificados em plantios de kiwi foram utilizados em testes de patogenicidade em mudas de A. mearnsii. O potencial antagônico in vitro de B. subtilis sobre o patógeno foi analisado em testes de confrontação direta. Para avaliar o comportamento in vivo de B. subtilis, as mudas de acácia-negra foram inoculadas com Rizolyptus® sete dias antes e após a inoculação do patógeno. Nas mudas de acácia-negra os isolados de C. fimbriata exibiram percentuais de severidade que variam de 44,15% a 100%. Nos testes de confrontação direta as cepas mostraram-se eficientes no biocontrole in vitro sobre os isolados de C. fimbriata. In vivo, o produto Rizolyptus® não foi eficiente no controle de C. fimbriata.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Ceratocystis fimbriata isolates, obtained from Actinidia deliciosa (kiwifruit), on black wattle (Acacia mearnsii De Wild.) seedlings, the potential biological control exerted in vitro by Bacillus subtilis on C. fimbriata, and the in vivo effect of B. subtilis against C. fimbriata on black wattle seedlings. Isolates of C. fimbriata obtained and identified from kiwi plantations were used in pathogenicity tests on A. mearnsii seedlings. In vitro, the antagonistic potential of B. subtilis on the pathogen was analyzed by direct confrontation tests. To evaluate the effect of B. subtilis in vivo, black wattle seedlings were inoculated with Rhizolyptus® seven days before and after pathogen inoculation. On black wattle seedlings, C. fimbriata isolates caused 44,15% to 100% severity. Direct confrontation tests revealed that the strains were effective in the biological control of C. fimbriata isolates in vitro. In vivo, Rizolyptus® was not efficient in controlling C. fimbriata.

Resumo: As análises de sementes devem ser realizadas em condições padronizadas para cada espécie, para que assim os resultados possam ser reprodutíveis em qualquer lugar. Sementes da espécie florestal Toona ciliata var. australis têm sido comercializadas no Brasil apesar de não haver condições padronizadas publicadas para sua análise. O objetivo foi determinar informações básicas sobre temperatura e fotoperíodo para o teste de germinação e tempo de embebição e volume de água para condutividade elétrica. Para o teste de germinação as sementes foram incubadas a 15, 20, 25 e 30 °C com 0, 12 e 16 h de luz. A condutividade elétrica foi avaliada até 108 h após imersão das sementes em 50 e 100 mL de água deionizada. As condições de 25 °C e 16 h de luz proporcionaram maior quantidade de plântulas normais. A 15 °C todas as sementes permaneceram duras independente do fotoperíodo utilizado, entretanto, isso se tornou ausente quando foi adicionado luz em temperaturas maiores. O teste de condutividade elétrica deve ser realizado com volume de 50 mL e avaliado após 24 h de embebição. Esse teste também mostrou uma correlação forte entre plântulas normais, sendo considerado então um promissor teste para avaliar o vigor dessa espécie.

Abstract: Seed analysis tests should be performed under standard conditions for each species, so that the results can be reproducible anywhere. Seeds of the forest species Toona ciliata var. australis have been commercialized in Brazil despite no standard conditions for their analysis have been published. The objective was to determine basic information about temperature and photoperiod for the germination test and the imbibition time and volume of water for electrical conductivity. In the germination test the seeds were incubated at 15, 20, 25 and 30 °C with 0, 12 and 16 h of light. The electrical conductivity was evaluated up to 108 h after immersion of the seeds in 50 and 100 mL of deionized water. The conditions of 25 °C and 16 h of light provided higher amount of normal seedlings. At 15 °C all seeds remained hard regardless the photoperiod used, however, it became absent when light was added at higher temperatures. The electrical conductivity test should be performed with a volume of 50 mL and evaluated after 24 h of imbibition. It also showed a stronger correlation between normal seedlings, being a promising vigor evaluation test for this species.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to form a hydrophobic surface in a highly porous wood by coating and incorporating TiO2 micro/nano structures through the microwave-assisted solvotermal method, without need any pre- or post-modification of the wood substrate, using low temperatures and short times. The behavior and morphology of the TiO2-treated surfaces was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the elemental composition was determined via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results indicated that the crystallization of the TiO2 anatase phase was efficient and fully coated the wood surface during the solvothermal process. The treated wood contained TiO2 particles agglomerate with an average diameter of 200 nm that also allowed to coat an abundant fraction of tracheids cell walls. When investigated through X-ray spectroscopy-mapping, the element titanium appeared abundantly throughout the wood. After TiO2 growth in wood through the microwave-assisted solvotermal method, a roughness at the micro/nano scales structures was created on the wood surface, originating an increase in the contact angle up to 137°, which characterizes the appearance of a hydrophobic surface. The TiO2-treated wood demonstrated 85% of water absorption after 400 h of immersion, while untreated wood reached 160%, suggesting that the microwave-assisted solvotermal process promotes a delay in the progression of water absorption. This feature can improve the dimensional stability of wood, contributing to the increase of its durability and applications.

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze chemical changes by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy of Eucalyptus dunnii and Pinus elliottii treated woods subjected to an accelerated decay test with the white rot fungus Ganoderma applanatum. The wood test specimens (2,5x2,5x0,9 cm) were impregnated with preservative solutions of chromated copper borate and synthetic pyrethroids and carbamates with 6% concentration by a vaccum-pressure process. After a decay test of 16 weeks, the chemical changes of the treated and untreated wood samples were evaluated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. It was observed that the rot fungus attack caused a variation in the intensity and a displacement of spectrum peaks, indicating a change to the woods’ chemical composition after fungal exposure. The lignin / carbohydrate ratio indicated that the fungus had no preference for a specific cell wall component, pointing to a simultaneous deterioration of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in the treated and untreated woods. Finally, the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy technique, together with the lignin / carbohydrate ratio analysis, proved efficient in the study of the variation of the wood chemical modifications deteriorated by rot fungi.

RESUMO A espécie florestal Toona ciliata var. australis possui madeira de alto valor econômico para móveis e seus plantios não são afetados pela Hypsipyla grandella, praga que ataca plantios de monocultura de espécies nativas semelhantes à Toona ciliata. Possui uma estreita relação com a água disponível, ocorrendo geralmente em florestas úmidas no seu ambiente natural. Em plantios comerciais, esse é um dos fatores que mais limita seu estabelecimento e crescimento inicial. Nas últimas décadas, sua área de plantio no Brasil foi ampliada, entretanto, é escasso o conhecimento sobre o efeito de ambientes adversos na germinação e crescimento inicial de plântulas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos do estresse salino e hídrico na germinação e crescimento inicial de plântulas de Toona ciliata, utilizando-se soluções contendo, ou NaCl, ou PEG 6000, nos potenciais osmóticos: -0,1; -0,2; -0,3; -0,4; -0,5; -0,6; -0,9; -1,2 e -1,5 MPa, mais a testemunha, com água esterilizada. As sementes foram submetidas ao teste de germinação sobre papel-germitest umedecido com a solução correspondente, e incubadas a 25 ± 2°C e fotoperíodo de 16 h por 21 dias. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, arranjado em esquema fatorial 2 × 10 (agentes osmóticos × potenciais osmóticos), com quatro repetições de 50 sementes cada. Conforme a redução do potencial osmótico observou-se menor germinação, número de plântulas normais, massa fresca, comprimento de plântula e maior número de sementes duras, sendo mais severo em PEG 6000. Portanto, houve mais sementes germinadas sob o efeito do NaCl do que do PEG 6000. Entretanto, apesar da germinação alta em NaCl, o número de plântulas anormais também foi maior que em PEG 6000. Concluise que a germinação e o crescimento inicial de plântulas de Toona ciliata são afetados tanto pelo estresse salino como hídrico, sendo as plântulas mais sensíveis ao estresse hídrico, e com maior probabilidade de desenvolver plântulas anormais sob estresse salino.

ABSTRACT The Toona ciliata var. australis is a tree species which yields a very high-quality timber for furniture and is unaffected by Hypsipyla grandella, a pest that attacks monoculture plantations of native species similar to Toona ciliata. It has a close relationship with water availability, occurring mainly in humid forest in its natural habitat. In commercial plantations this is an important limitation to the establishment and initial growing of Toona ciliata. In the last decades, the use of Toona ciliata in commercial plantations has increased in Brazil, however, there is little knowledge about the effect of adverse environments on seed germination and early seedling growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of water and saline stress on germination and early seedlings growth of Toona ciliata. Osmotic solutions were prepared with, or NaCl, or PEG 6000, in the following osmotic potentials: -0.1; -0.2; -0.3; -0.4; -0.5; -0.6; -0.9; -1.2 and -1.5 MPa. For the control treatment, it was only used sterile water. The seeds were submitted to the germination test in which the germitest paper was moistened with the relative osmotic solution. The incubation was realized in a germination chamber at 25 ± 2 °C with 16 h light of photoperiod. The experimental design was completely randomized, arranged in a factorial design 2 × 10 (osmotic agent × osmotic potential and control), with four repetitions of 50 seeds each. With the reduction on the osmotic potential was observed lower germination, number of normal seedlings, fresh weight, seedling length and higher number of hard seeds, being the effect of PEG 6000 more severe. The germination and number of abnormal seedlings was higher under NaCl effect than PEG 6000. It can be concluded that germination and early seedling growth of Toona ciliata are affected by both saline and water stress, being more sensitive under water stress and with higher probability of developing abnormal seedlings under saline stress.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento vegetativo e produtivo de kiwizeiros da cultivar ‘Elmwood’ submetidos a diferentes intensidades de poda, na região da Serra Gaúcha. Os tratamentos utilizados consistiram na manutenção de diferentes níveis de cargas de gemas: 10; 15 e 20 gemas vara-1. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com nove repetições por tratamento. O experimento foi realizado durante o ciclo 2016/2017, avaliando-se a fertilidade das gemas, os atributos vegetativos, os produtivos e os de qualidade dos frutos. O maior percentual de brotações mistas foi próximo ao ápice da vara, nos três diferentes tratamentos; já na base dos ramos de ano, ocorreu o maior percentual de gemas que não brotaram. A diminuição da carga de gemas por vara induziu aumento do tamanho das folhas e incremento da matéria seca foliar. O diâmetro longitudinal, transversal e a massa de fruto foram inversamente proporcionais ao número de gemas por vara. A poda de kiwizeiros ‘Elmwood’ com diferentes cargas de gemas não influencia o índice de fertilidade real das gemas, porém interfere diretamente no tamanho das folhas e dos ramos do ano. A poda, mantendo varas com 10 gemas, favorece o aumento da massa de fruto e não reduz a produtividade.

Abstract The objective of this study is to evaluate the vegetative and productive behavior of kiwifruit trees cv. ‘Elmwood’ submitted to different intensities of pruning, in “Serra Gaúcha” region. Treatments consisted in maintaining different bud load levels in each cane of 10, 15 and 20 buds cane-1. The experiment, carried out during the 2016/2017 vegetative season had a completely randomized design with nine repetitions per treatment. Bud fertility, vegetative, productive and fruit quality features were evaluated. The percentage of mixed buds was higher next to the cane apex in three different treatments, while in the base of each cane ocurred the highest percentage of non sprouting buds. The decrease in the number of buds per cane induced larger leaves and increased leaf dry matter. Longitudinal and transversal diameter of fruits and fruit mass were inversely proportional to the number of buds per cane. Pruning of ‘Elmwood’ kiwifruit tree with different number of buds did not influence the index of real bud fertility, but affected directly leaf and shoot size. Pruning maintaining canes with 10 buds favors the increase of fruit weight and did not reduce productivity.

RESUMO Uma das principais doenças que ocorrem nos viveiros clonais de Eucalyptus spp. é o oídio causado pelo fungo Oidium eucalypti. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de produtos biológicos baseados em Trichoderma spp. e Bacillus spp. aplicados na forma de tratamentos preventivos e curativos para o controle de O. eucalypti em mudas clonais de E. benthamii Maiden et Cambage. Os tratamentos foram: Trichoderma harzianum (THP), T. atroviride (TAI), T. harzianum (THE), Trichoderma spp. (TTA), Bacillus spp. (BNE), Enxofre (KUM), Difenoconazol (SCO) e água destilada (AD). Estes foram aplicados preventivamente por pulverização sete dias antes da inoculação do patógeno, e, de forma curativa, dez dias após a inoculação. Foram realizadas avaliações semanais da incidência e severidade da doença. As variáveis analisadas foram: Índice de Doença (ID) e Incidência (I), calculando-se a área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença (AACPD) para cada tratamento. Os resultados evidenciaram BNE (Bacillus spp.) e TAI (T. atroviride isolado) como efetivos quando aplicados preventivamente, e o tratamento BNE (Bacillus spp.) também efetivo em aplicação curativa para o controle biológico de O. eucalypti em mudas clonais de E. benthamii, comprovando-se que tratamentos baseados em produtos biológicos podem ser eficazes para controlar o oídio no eucalipto nos viveiros clonais.

ABSTRACT One of the main diseases occurring in clonal nurseries of Eucalyptus spp. is powdery mildew caused by the fungus Oidium eucalypti. This work evaluated the efficiency of biological products based on Trichoderma spp. and Bacillus spp. applied as preventive and curative treatments for the control of Oidium eucalypti in clonal seedlings of E. benthamii Maiden et Cambage. Treatments were: Trichoderma harzianum (THP), T. atroviride (TAI), T. harzianum (THE), Trichoderma spp. (TTA), Bacillus spp. (BNE), Sulfur (KUM), Difenoconazol (SCO) and distilled water (AD). Treatments were applied preventively by spraying seven days before inoculation of the pathogen, and in curatively, ten days after inoculation. Weekly evaluations of the incidence and severity of the disease were done. The analyzed variables were: Disease Index (ID) and Incidence (I), calculating the area under the disease curve (AUDPC) for each treatment. The results pointed BNE (Bacillus spp.) and TAI (isolate T. atroviride) as effective preventive treatments and BNE (Bacillus spp.), applied curatively for the control of O. eucalypti in E. benthamii seedlings, proving that treatments based on biological products may be effective for controlling eucalyptus powdery mildew in clonal nurseries.

RESUMO A madeira é um material formado basicamente por polímeros, os quais são pouco resistentes a altas temperaturas e suscetíveis ao fogo. Em aplicações é desejável que esta madeira tenha um melhor desempenho quanto à ignição e perda de resistência mecânica devido à degradação térmica de seus componentes. O aumento de desempenho pode ser obtido pela modificação das propriedades térmicas madeira através de seu tratamento. Assim, utilizou-se o processo solvotermal assistido por micro-ondas para a modificação da superfície e do interior da madeira de Pinus elliotttii com TiO2 visando o aumento da resistência à inflamabilidade e à degradação térmica pelo retardamento da carbonização. Para isso, foi preparada uma solução precursora alcoólica com isopropóxido de titânio. Com temperatura de 140°C, por 60 minutos, foram cristalizadas, na superfície interna e externa da madeira, nanopartículas de TiO2 na fase anatase. Utilizando a Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura foi possível demostrar o recobrimento uniforme e homogêneo. Através do espectro no infravermelho por Transformada de Fourier verificaram-se indícios de ligação por ponte de hidrogênio entre os dois materiais. A formação de uma camada protetora com as partículas proporcionou maior estabilidade e resistência térmica devido ao caráter cerâmico das nanopartículas de TiO2. A partir das análises termogravimétricas foi determinada uma perda de massa de 70% aos 380°C e 11% de resíduos aos 700°C, diferentemente da madeira modificada que nestas temperaturas atingiram percentagens de 45% e 46%, respectivamente. Em adição, verificou-se pelos testes de chama, retardo em cerca de 7 vezes o tempo para a ignição da madeira modificada, quando comparada com o controle. Desse modo, pode-se afirmar que a modificação da madeira pelo processo solvotermal assistido por micro-ondas foi efetiva na redução de sua inflamabilidade bem como de sua degradação com o aumento da temperatura. Cita-se ainda, que o método se apresenta com grande potencial para o aumento da qualidade da madeira e consequentemente de suas aplicações.

ABSTRACT Wood is composed by polymeric materials, with fire susceptibility. For applications, wood with better ignition resistance and lower fire stenght reduction is desirable. Enhancing of wood thermal properties can be achieved by means of right modification of wood by treatment. Thus, the microwave-assisted solvotermal process was implemented to modify the surface of the Pinus elliotttii wood with TiO2 in order to increase the resistance to flammability and thermal degradation through the retardation of carbonization. An alcoholic precursor solution with titanium isopropoxide was prepared and nanoparticles of TiO2 were crystallized to anatase on wood surface and interior at 140°C, for 60 minutes. Using Scanning Electron Microscopy, it was possible to demonstrate the uniform and homogeneous coating, and by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, it was possible to indicate presence of hydrogen bonds between the two materials. The formation of protective particle layer afforded greater stability and thermal resistance due to the ceramic character of TiO2. From the thermogravimetric analysis, 70% of weigh loss at 380°C and 11% of residual content at 700°C was verified, differently from the modified wood that at these temperatures reached 45% and 46%, respectively. Corroborating with these results, it was evident from the flame tests that wood with the presence of particles delayed about 7 times the moment of ignition. Thus, the microwave-assisted solvotermal process has great potential to transform wood and other porous materials into a less flammable material, maintaining its entire structure for a longer time when exposed to adverse conditions

ABSTRACT Powdery mildew is one of the main diseases in eucalyptus clonal nursery. The present work aimed to confirm the identity of the causal agent of powdery mildew in clonal seedlings of Eucalyptus spp., and to evaluate the susceptibility reaction of clones to this disease. Conidia were collected in minigardens for molecular identification of the pathogen. We assessed susceptibility by testing 4 clones: Clone 1 (Eucalyptus benthamii ), Clone 2 (E. dunni), Clone 3 (E. benthamii) and Clone 4 (E. urophylla x E. globulus). Scale of classes was used for calculations of Disease Index (DI) and Final Incidence (I). Temporal analysis was performed using the Logistic and Gompertz models. The molecular identification confirmed the identity of the isolates approximate to Podosphaera pannosa (teleomorphic phase of Oidium eucalypti). The Gompertz model obtained a better adjustment to the severity and incidence data, and clones 1 and 2 showed greater susceptibility to eucalyptus powdery mildew.
