Abstract The Wikidata Lab presents a series of interdisciplinary meetings, organized by the Wiki Movimento Brasil, with the aim of studying the potential of the Wikidata platform. This platform, in conjunction with Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikiversity, among others, is part of the collaborative platform ecosystem of the Wikimedia Foundation. Using a normative case study, our objective is to understand how Wikidata Labs could offer a direction for research in the field of Communication and Information and how they could articulate the so-called computational turn in the humanities, collaborative work on platforms, and projects in Digital Humanities. Abstract Lignin is related to mechanical support, fluidity of water transport by xylem and resistance to pest and pathogen infections. This research measured the concentration of lignin and its correlation with field performance of Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arrab. ex Steud seedlings submitted to hardening. Seedlings were treated with 20 stem bending for 4 or 8 weeks, application of 50 μmol L-1 of methyl jasmonate for 4 or 8 weeks and a control treatment. In the nursery after treatments, six seedlings were randomly selected for determination of root electrolytes and lignin content from stem and root tissues. Application of jasmonates or stem bending in the nursery promoted an increase in stem lignin concentration but did not induce a greater lignification of root systems. RESUMO Esta pesquisa objetivou determinar o melhor momento da colheita de sementes de Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan baseado na cor do fruto. Os frutos foram classificados em quatro estádios de maturação: fruto com cor verde-amarelo moderado; fruto com cor castanho-escuro; fruto com cor castanho-escuro avermelhado; e fruto com cor castanho-claro. As sementes foram avaliadas quanto às características biométricas e testadas quanto à germinação e vigor. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p ≤ 0,05). Realizou-se uma análise de correlação não paramétrica de Spearman entre os estádios de maturação e as características físicas e fisiológicas das sementes. As maiores médias de tamanho foram observadas nas sementes dos frutos com cor verde e castanho-escuro. As sementes dos frutos com cores castanho-escuro avermelhado e castanho-claro apresentaram redução drástica no teor de água, e evidenciaram alto potencial germinativo e de vigor. Observaram-se correlações fortes e negativas entre o estádio de maturação e as características físicas das sementes. Por outro lado, o acúmulo de massa seca, potencial de germinação e de emergência e os índices de vigor apresentaram correlações fortes e diretamente proporcionais ao estádio de maturação. A cor do fruto, aliada às características físicas das sementes, demonstraram-se como um bom indicador da maturidade fisiológica das sementes de Anadenanthera colubrina. Frutos com cores castanho-escuro avermelhado e castanho-claro apresentam qualidade fisiológica superior. Desse modo, o indicativo de tais colorações sugere o momento da colheita das sementes.

ABSTRACT This research aimed to determine the best time to harvest Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan seeds based on fruit color. The fruits were classified in four maturation stages: fruit with a moderate yellow green color; fruit with dark brown color; fruit with dark reddish-brown color; fruit with a light brown color. The seeds were evaluated for biometric characteristics and tested for germination and vigor. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design. The averages were compared by the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05). A non-parametric Spearman correlation analysis was performed between maturation stages and physical and physiological characteristics of the seeds. The largest size averages were observed in seeds from fruits with green and dark brown color. Seeds from fruits with dark brown and reddish-brown color showed drastic reduction in the water content, and high germinative potential and vigor. Strong and negative correlations were observed between maturation stage and seed physical characteristics. On the other hand, the accumulation of dry mass, germination potential, emergence and vigor indexes showed strong correlations and were directly proportional to maturation stage. The color of the fruit was shown to be a good indicator of the physiological maturity of the seeds of Anadenanthera colubrina. Abstract Background The early detection of vascular damage in subclinical stages of hypertensive disease may be the key point in the prevention of cardiovascular outcomes. Objectives to correlate parameters of structural vascular damage (measurement of the carotid intima-media thickness) with parameters of functional vascular damage (central hemodynamic measurements) in pre-hypertensive and hypertensive patients taking up to two classes of anti-hypertensive drugs. Methods This was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted with a convenience sample of patients attending the Liga de Hipertensão Arterial , a multidisciplinary program for the diagnosis and treatment of systemic hypertension, of the Federal university of Goias. Patients with arrythmia, diabetes, previous cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases, and end-stage diseases were excluded. Carotid Doppler test, measurements of peripheral and central blood pressure by applanation tonometry (Sphygmocor®) and oscillometry (Mobil-O-Graph®) were performed. The t-test was used for comparisons and the Pearson correlation test for correlations, considering a p<0.05 statistically significant. Results twenty patients (12 women) were evaluated, mean age 53.8 ± 14.3 years. Higher values of central pulse pressure (42.9±13.9 vs. 34.7±9.6, p=0.01) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) (9.0±1.9 vs. 7.9±1.5, p=0.01) were obtained by applanation tonometry compared with oscillometry. No difference between the methods was observed for the other measures. A significant correlation was found between carotid artery intima-media thickness (CA-IMT) and PWV (r=0.659; p=0.002) by the oscillometric test, but not with applanation tonometry. No correlation was found between central hemodynamic variables and the presence of carotid artery plaques. Conclusion PWV, estimated by oscillometry, was the only central hemodynamic parameter that correlated significantly with CA-IMT in pre-hypertensive and hypertensive patients at low cardiovascular risk. Resumo No presente estudo, a ecotecnologia de ilhas flutuantes artificiais (IFAs) colonizadas por Eichhornia crassipes foi testada como uma ferramenta para a melhoria da qualidade da água de viveiros de peixes. O experimento foi realizado em sistemas de produção semi-intensivos durante o período de crescimento de tilápia, compreendendo um ciclo de produção. Foi completamente randomizado com dois tratamentos (com e sem IFAs) e três repetições. A temperatura da água, oxigênio dissolvido (OD), condutividade elétrica, pH, turbidez, sólidos totais dissolvidos (STD), transparência da água (Secchi) e concentrações de clorofila a (CL a), nitrogênio total (NT), nitrogênio amoniacal total (NAT), fósforo total (PT), ortofosfato (P-PO4 3) foram analisados quinzenalmente nos viveiros. Dois grupos ordenados com base nas características ambientais foram formados por meio da aplicação da análise de componentes principais (70,68% de explicabilidade). Aos viveiros com IFAs foram atribuídos maiores valores de Secchi e menores valores de pH, turbidez e STD e das concentrações de CL a, NT, NAT, PT, P-PO4 3-. Aos viveiros sem IFAs foram atribuídos os maiores valores dessas variáveis, exceto Secchi. Em 30 dias, viveiros com essas variáveis apresentaram as menores concentrações de PT e P-PO4 3-, e para CL a, NT e NAT, as diferenças foram registradas após 90 dias. O uso de IFAs tem demonstrado alto potencial para manutenção da qualidade da água adequada para a produção de peixes, notadamente para elementos biologicamente assimiláveis (ortofosfato e nitrogênio amoniacal) e para aqueles diretamente relacionados à eutrofização (fósforo total, nitrogênio e Secchi). A tecnologia de IFAs deve ser encorajada para pequenos e médios produtores rurais como ferramenta para melhorar a qualidade da água de viveiros de piscicultura. Contudo, novas taxas de cobertura de IFAs devem ser avaliadas, com cuidado, bem como o controle das taxas de retenção hidráulica, para promover melhorias mais significativas na qualidade da água, sem prejudicar a produção de peixes.

Abstract In this study, the ecotechnology artificial floating islands (AFIs), colonized by Eichhornia crassipes, have been tested as a tool for water quality improvement of fishponds. The experiment was carried out in semi-intensive production during the grow-out period of Nile tilapia, comprising one production cycle. It was completely randomized with two treatments (with and without AFIs) and three replications. Temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), transparency (Secchi) and concentrations of chlorophyll a (CL a), total nitrogen (TN), total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), total phosphorus (TP) and orthophosphate (PO4 3--P) were analyzed fortnightly in the fishponds. Two groups ordered based on environmental characteristics were formed by applying the Principal Component Analysis (70.68% of explicability). The fishponds with AFIs were assigned to higher values of Secchi and lower values of pH, turbidity, TDS and concentrations of nutrients. On the other hand, the fishponds without AFIs were assigned to the highest values of these variables, except for Secchi. In 30 days, the AFIs showed the lowest concentrations of TP and PO4 3--P, and for CL a, TN and TAN, the differences were recorded after 90 days. The use of AFIs has demonstrated potential to conserve water quality in fishponds, notably for biologically assimilable elements (PO4 3--P and TAN) and for those directly related to eutrophication (P and N). Artificial floating islands should be encouraged for small and medium-sized farmers as tool to improve water quality in fishponds. However, new AFIs coverage rates must be evaluated, as well as the control of hydraulic retention rates.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar criticamente um relato de caso sobre a criação de um curso online, aberto e colaborativo de introdução ao jornalismo científico. Inicia-se por mostrar o contexto no qual o projeto foi concebido para, em seguida, abordar brevemente a tríade ”comunicação, educação e tecnologia”, com ênfase para o papel da tecnologia na educação a distância, que pode ser vista da perspectiva histórica das “gerações de inovação tecnológica”. Ao chegar ao contexto atual, do advento da Internet e das práticas da Web 2.0, o relato aprofunda-se na descrição do curso, realizado na plataforma livre Wikiversidade, e nos processos de seu desenvolvimento.

Abstract This article aims at critically presenting a case study about the creation of an online, open and collaborative course of introduction to scientific journalism. It begins showing the context in which the project was conceived and then briefly talks about the triad “communication, education and technology”, emphasizing technology’s role in distance education, which can be seen from the historical perspective of “generations of technological innovation”. In the current context, with the Internet’s advent and practices related to the 2.0 Web, this case deepens the description of a course, hosted at Wikiversity, and on its creation processes.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar a cor do fruto de Albizia hasslerii que corresponde a sementes com maior potencial fisiológico. Os frutos foram colhidos em diferentes estádios de maturação para a realização das análises, sendo classificados visualmente em quatro cores: 100% verde (estádio 1), ≤ 50% marrom (estádio 2), entre 50% e 99,9% marrom (estádio 3) e 100% marrom (estádio 4). Posteriormente, procedeu-se a mensuração dos atributos biométricos das sementes, e simultaneamente, Risssos testes de germinação e vigor foram instalados. Para verificar a relação da maturação de frutos com a biometria e o potencial fisiológico de sementes, determinou-se o coeficiente de correlação de Spearman (ρ). O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, sendo os resultados submetidos à análise de variância, e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. As sementes provenientes dos frutos que se encontravam nos estádios 3 e 4, manifestaram maior germinação e emergência, menores médias de teor de água e maior matéria seca, sendo esses indicadores do melhor momento de colheita de frutos. Já as sementes obtidas de frutos verdes apresentaram baixa germinação e vigor, alto teor de água e menor matéria seca. Conclui-se que as sementes com alto potencial fisiológico estão em frutos com cor 100% marrom, porém a partir de 50% de cor marrom já podem ser colhidos. Portanto, a cor dos frutos é considerada um indicador de maturidade fisiológica para a espécie Albizia hasslerii.

Abstract The objective of this study was to identify the color of Albizia hasslerii fruit that corresponds to seeds with high physiological potential. Fruits were harvested at different ripening stages for the analysis and were visually classified into four stages according to epicarp color: 100% green (stage 1), ≤ 50% brown (stage 2), between 50% and 99.9% brown (stage 3) and 100% brown (stage 4). Subsequently, we quantified seed biometric attributes and proceeded to install the germination and vigor tests. To verify the relationship between fruit maturation with seed biometrics and the physiological potential, we calculated the Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ). The design was a completely randomized, and the results were submitted to analysis of variance with means compared by Tukey test at 5% probability. The seeds from the fruits classified as stages 3 and 4 showed greater germination and emergence, lower averages of water content and higher dry biomass, being those indicators of the best time for the fruit harvest. The seeds from green fruits presented low germination and vigor, high water content and lower dry biomass. It was concluded that seeds with high physiological potential are from fruits with 100% brown color. However, fruits showing 50% brown color can already be harvested. Therefore, fruit color is considered an indicator of physiological maturity for Albizia hassleri.

Resumo O trabalho objetivou verificar se a rustificação por flexões caulinares e a pulverização foliar com ácido jasmônico (JA) induz lignificação e altera o desenvolvimento pós-plantio. O experimento iniciou em ambiente protegido seguindo um delineamento inteiramente ao acaso com sete tratamentos (T1) testemunha; (T2) 2,0 μmol L-1 de JA; (T3) 4,0 μmol L-1 de JA; (T4) 6,0 μmol L-1 de JA; (T5) 8,0 μmol L-1 de JA; (T6) 20 flexões; (T7) 40 flexões e cinco repetições. Ao final da aplicação dos tratamentos, avaliaram-se os incrementos na altura, no diâmetro do coleto e número de folhas, assim como o teor de lignina dos tecidos caulinares, das raízes e a rigidez flexural. Em seguida, as mudas rustificadas foram plantadas a campo em delineamento em blocos ao acaso com três mudas por repetição. Aos 90 e 150 dias, avaliaram-se os incrementos na altura e no diâmetro do caule. Mudas dos tratamentos T5 e T6 apresentaram maior resistência à curvatura (0,2885 e 0,3005 N cm-1, respectivamente). O teor de lignina no caule aumentou com aplicações de JA acima de 6,0μmol L-1 e imposição de flexões caulinares. As menores doses de JA (T2, T3 e T4) e o tratamento com 20 flexões caulinares (T6) resultaram em mudas com aumento no incremento no diâmetro do caule. A interpretação da análise de trilha demonstrou que houve aumento na rigidez do caule acompanhado com o aumento no teor de lignina e que estes possuem um maior efeito direto inversamente proporcional com o incremento médio em altura e com o diâmetro do caule após o plantio.

Abstract The objective of this work was to verify if hardening by stem bending and foliar spray of jasmonic acid (JA) induced lignification and if it altered the post-planting development. The experiment was initially conducted in a shade house following a completely randomized design with treatments as (T1) control; (T2) 2.0 μmol L-1 of JA; (T3) 4.0 μmol L-1 of JA; (T4) 6.0 μmol L-1 of JA; (T5) 8.0 μmol L-1 of JA; (T6) 20 stem bending; (T7) 40 stem bending and five replicates. At the end of the imposed treatments, we calculated the increments in height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root and shoot dry biomasses, as well as the lignin content of shoots and roots and the stem stiffness. Afterwards, seedlings were planted following a randomized block design with three seedlings per replicate. At 90 and 150 days after planting, we quantified increments in height and stem diameter. Treatments T5 and T6 showed higher bending strength (0.28885 and 0.3005 N cm-1, respectively). Seedlings submitted to doses above 6.0 μmol L-1 of JA (T5) and imposition of stem bending (T6 and T7) resulted in a higher stem lignin content. The smaller doses of JA (T2, T3 and T4) and 20 stem bending (T6) resulted in seedlings with a relative increase in diameter. The interpretation of path analysis showed weak multicollinearity, that is, the variables under study are not highly correlated and there was a greater direct correlation between the lignin content of the stem with the mean increase in height and diameter of the seedlings after planting.

Abstract Background Changes in arterial compliance are among the first changes detectable in hypertensive syndrome. Methods with good reproducibility as compared with the gold standard for identifying such changes are desirable in clinical practice. Objectives To compare central pressure measurements and arterial stiffness obtained by two non-invasive methods (tonometry and oscillometry). Methods This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of patients with borderline hypertension or stage 1 hypertension. Peripheral and central blood pressure measurements were obtained by tonometry (SphygmoCor®), considered the gold standard, and oscillometry (Mobil O´graph®). Comparisons of results were made by unpaired t-test, and p values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results No difference was found in central pressure measurements obtained by SphygmoCor® (117 x 80.1 mmHg) compared with Mobil O’graph (112 x 81.4 mmHg). Mean augmentation index (AIx) was 26.1% and 21.3%, and mean pulse pressure (PP) amplification 10.7 mmHg and 10.0 mmHg by Sphygmocor® and Mobil O´graph®, respectively (p > 0.05). Mean pressure wave velocity (PWV), 8.4 m/s vs. 7.4 m/s (p = 0.013) and mean central pulse pressure, 37.7 mmmHg and 30.9 mmHg (p = 0.013) were significantly higher by SphygmoCor® than Mobil O´graph®. Conclusion Values of central systolic blood pressure, AIx and pulse pressure amplification obtained by oscillometry were not statistically different compared with tonometry; values of PWV and cPP, however, were underestimated by oscillometry. A relação entre ganho de peso e fatores sociodemográficos é bem documentada, mas poucos pesquisadores buscam associar obesidade com raça/cor. Desta forma, este artigo visa mapear, na literatura científica, a extensão, o alcance e a natureza da relação entre obesidade e raça, por meio de revisão de escopo. As fontes informacionais foram os bancos de dados Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), Excerpta Medica Database (Embase), Web of Science, Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (Hinari) e Scopus, além da literatura cinza. Foram encontrados 2.526 artigos, permanecendo 10 documentos após eliminadas as duplicatas e aplicados os critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Existe uma relação complexa entre raça, obesidade, nível socioeconômico e gênero, cuja especificidade se dá em função do contexto sócio-histórico. As possíveis explicações para as disparidades raciais na obesidade residem nos efeitos fisiológicos, psicológicos e culturais do estresse devido à discriminação racial. Novos estudos devem ser realizados considerando as diferenças regionais, pois a desigualdade racial, embora aconteça em todos os lugares, assume diferentes formatos.

Although the association between sociodemographic factors and weight gain is well documented, few researchers associated obesity with race/color. This article aims to map the extent, scope, and nature of the association between obesity and race in the scientific literature by conducting a scoping review. Data sources were the Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), Excerpta Medica Database (Embase), Web of Science, Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (Hinari), and Scopus databases, as well as the gray literature. In total, 2,526 articles were found. After duplicates were excluded and inclusion and exclusion criteria applied, 10 articles remained. Race, obesity, socioeconomic status, and gender are tied into a complex relationship whose specificity lies on the socio-historical context. Racial disparities in obesity may be explained by physiological, psychological, and cultural effects of stress due to racial discrimination. Although racial inequality happens everywhere, it assumes different forms. Considering that, further studies should approach regional differences.
