RESUMO A diversificação de cultivares e o cultivo consorciado com capim-limão podem ser uma abordagem inovadora para os produtores de banana aumentarem a variedade, a rentabilidade e a sustentabilidade dos pomares e se adaptarem às mudanças climáticas. O estudo foi conduzido no estado de São Paulo, uma região subtropical do sudeste do Brasil, e avaliou a duração dos ciclos de cultivo, o desempenho do crescimento e da produção e os teores nutricionais foliares das cultivares de bananeira BRS FHIA Maravilha, SCS 451 Prata Catarina, BRS Pacoua e Prata Anã em consórcio com capim-limão. O experimento de campo foi conduzido durante dois ciclos de cultivo consecutivos. O crescimento, a produtividade e o teor de nutrientes nas folhas das cultivares de bananeira apresentaram o mesmo desempenho em monocultura e em consórcio com capim-limão. O ciclo mais curto foi observado apenas na primeira safra com a cultura intercalar de capim-limão. A cultivar Prata Anã se destacou pelo ciclo mais precoce, menor altura de plantas e maior produtividade média por ano. ABSTRACT Diversifying cultivars and intercropping with lemongrass can innovative strategies for banana growers to enhance the variety, profitability and sustainability of their orchards and to adapt to climate change. This study took place in the state of São Paulo, a subtropical region of southeastern Brazil and assessed the duration of the cropping cycles, growth and yield performance, and leaf nutritional content of banana cultivars BRS FHIA Maravilha, SCS 451 Prata Catarina, BRS Pacoua and Prata Anã when intercropped with lemongrass. The field experiment spanned two consecutive growing seasons. The growth, yield and nutrient content in the leaves of banana cultivars exhibited similar performance in both monoculture and intercropping with lemongrass. A shorter cycle was observed only in the first harvest with the lemongrass intercrop. The Prata Anã cultivar stood out for its earlier cycle, lower plant height and higher average yield per year. RESUMO: O presente trabalho avaliou o crescimento das espécies Mytella guyanensis e Mytella strigata em cordas suspensas na Costa de Manguezais de Macromarés da Amazônia. Os mexilhões foram cultivados na densidade de 840 ind. m-1 de corda, com a mesma altura de valva (mm) e peso vivo (g) para ambas as espécies. O experimento ocorreu inteiramente casualizado, com dois tratamentos e 15 repetições. Foram encontradas diferenças significativas quanto ao crescimento (altura da concha e peso vivo) entre as espécies (P>0,05). A taxa de crescimento diário foi maior para a M. guyanensis do que para M. strigata. Ao final do ciclo de cultivo, apenas 451 ± 46 (59,9%) indivíduos de M. guyanensis atingiram o tamanho comercial por metro de corda comparado a 670 ± 73 (89,3%) indivíduos de M. strigata. As taxas de sobrevivência foram semelhantes. A salinidade e a temperatura aumentaram progressivamente ao longo do experimento com a redução das chuvas e ficaram dentro da faixa considerada ideal para essas espécies. Em conclusão, o cultivo de ambas as espécies de mexilhões foi viável em condições estuarinas influenciadas pelas macromarés, com taxas de sobrevivência e crescimento diário satisfatórios (altura de valva e peso).

ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated the growth of the species Mytella guyanensis and Mytella strigata on ropes suspended in Amazon Macrotidal Mangrove Coast. The mussels were farmed at a density of 840 ind. m-1 of rope, with the same shell height (mm) and live weight (g) for both species. The experiment was entirely randomized, with two treatments and 15 repetitions. Significant differences were reported regarding the growth (shell height and live weight) between the species (P>0.05). The daily growth rate was greater for M. guyanensis than for M. strigata. At the end of the cultivation cycle, only 451 ± 46 (59.9%) of M. guyanensis individuals reached commercial size per meter of rope compared to 670 ± 73 (89.3%) of M. strigata individuals. Survival rates were similar. Salinity and temperature increased progressively throughout the experiment with the reduction in rainfall and were within the range considered ideal for these species. In conclusion, the farming of both species of mussels was viable under estuarine conditions influenced by macrotides, with satisfactory survival rates and daily growth (shell height and weight).

Resumo A constante necessidade de inovação nas indústrias alimentícias para atender às demandas dos consumidores e o crescente mercado de produtos sem glúten e com alto teor proteico têm impulsionado os estudos de farinhas mistas. Neste estudo, frutos de banana 'BRS Platina' foram processados para obtenção de farinha integral de banana verde (WGBF) e farinha de polpa de banana (GPBF), e folhas de ora-pro-nóbis foram processadas para obtenção de farinha (OPNF). As farinhas mistas foram preparadas pela mistura de farinhas de banana (WGBF ou GPBF) com níveis crescentes de OPNF (5 a 25%). As farinhas foram analisadas quanto a características físico-químicas, teores de minerais, índice de absorção de água (IAA), índice de solubilidade em água (ISA) e cor. O principal componente das farinhas de banana foi o amido, com maior teor na GBPF. A WGBF apresentou maior teor de minerais, com o potássio em maior quantidade. A farinha de ora-pro-nóbis apresentou altos teores proteico e mineral. Independentemente do tipo de farinha de banana, as farinhas mistas mostraram-se mais escuras, tiveram maior absorção de água e aumentos consideráveis de Mg, Fe e Zn. Abstract The constant need for innovation in the food industries to meet the demands of consumers and the growing market for gluten-free and high-protein products have driven studies of mixed flour. In this study, 'BRS Platina' banana fruits were processed to obtain Whole Green Banana Flour (WGBF) and Green Banana Pulp Flour (GBPF) as well as leaves of Ora-pro-nóbis Flour (OPNF). Mixed flours were prepared by blending banana flours (WGBF or GBPF) with increasing levels of OPNF (from 5 to 25%). Flours were analyzed for physicochemical characteristics, mineral contents, Water Absorption Index (WAI), Water Solubility Index (WSI), and color. The main component of banana flours was starch, in which GBPF has the highest content. The WGBF had a higher mineral content, and in both flours, the potassium was at a greater level. OPNF showed the highest protein and mineral contents. Independent of the type of banana flour, mixed flours were darker, and had higher WAI and considerable increases in Mg, Fe, and Zn than no mixed ones. The wastewater that originates from the widespread usage of synthetic dyes in the industry have become a severe environmental problem. Several efforts have been made to develop new types of treatment which are capable of performing the degradation of the dyes from the environment. Within this scope, much attention has been drawn to enzymatic approaches, mainly the ones applying oxidative enzymes, such as peroxidases. A recently discovered superfamily of peroxidases, the so called dye-decolorizing peroxidases (DyPs) is a promising alternative to further improve the efficiency of these processes. In this work, two of these peroxidases (Saccharomonospora viridis (SviDyP) and Thermobifida fusca (TfuDyp)) were tested together with twelve different reactive dyes in order to evaluate the efficiency of degradation and decolorization, leading to good results. When applying the SviDyP enzyme in experiments carried out for 12 h in pH 3, the degradation efficiencies were above 80% for some dyes. The biodegradation efficiency data and cyclic voltammograms were recorded to obtain the redox potential of the chosen dyes and enzymes. In addition, an electrochemical biosensor was used to gauge the genotoxicity of the generated bioproducts. This analysis showed that bioproducts from dye degradation mostly present a lower degree of genotoxicity when compared to the control reactions.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de aplicações de citocininas (BAP) e giberelinas (GA3) no crescimento, nas características físico-químicas e na produção de frutos de mangueira ‘Tommy Atkins’. Plantas de mangueiras foram pulverizadas com cinco concentrações (0; 75; 150; 225 e 300 mg.L-1) de BAP e GA3 e de BAP + GA3 (0; 75 + 75; 150 + 150; 225 + 225 e 300 + 300 mg.L-1), aos 15; 30 e 45 dias após a antese (DAA), e as aplicações isoladas de GA3 ocorreram aos 60; 70 e 80 DAA. Os frutos foram avaliados semanalmente, a partir de 52 DAA, medindo-se a massa, o diâmetro e o comprimento até à colheita, e caracterizados o teor de sólidos solúveis e a acidez. Entre 66 e 73 DAA, ocorreu maior pico de crescimento dos frutos. A aplicação de 150 + 150 mg.L-1 (BAP + GA3) promoveu, ao final do período, maior massa dos frutos em comparação às demais e ao controle. Não foram observadas diferenças na produção de frutos, porém a concentração de 150 + 150 mg.L-1 de BAP + GA3 apresentou mais de 50% de frutos no padrão de comercialização tipo nº 8. A aplicação exógena de 150 + 150 mg.L-1 (BAP + GA3), aos 15; 30 e 45 DAA, aumentou a massa, o diâmetro,o comprimento, a acidez e o percentual de frutos tipo nº 8 da mangueira ‘Tommy Atkins’, mas não aumentou a produtividade.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cytokinin (BAP) and gibberellin (GA3) applications on the growth, physicochemical characteristics and production of ‘Tommy Atkins’ mango fruits. Mango plants were sprayed with five concentrations (0, 75, 150, 225 and 300 mg.L-1) of BAP and GA3 and BAP + GA3 (0, 75 + 75, 150 + 150, 225 + 225 and 300 + 300 mg.L-1) at 15, 30 and 45 days after anthesis (DAA), single applications of GA3 occurred at 60, 70 and 80 DAA. Fruits were evaluated weekly from 52 DAA for weight, diameter and length until harvest and characterized for soluble solids content and acidity. A higher peak of fruit growth occurred between 66 and 73 DAA. Application of 150 + 150 mg.L-1 (BAP + GA3) promoted at the end of the evaluation period higher fruit weight compared to the other treatments and the control. No significant differences were observed in fruit production, but also concentrations of 150 + 150 mg.L-1 BAP + GA3 led to more than 50% of fruits in the marketing standard type 8. Exogenous application of 150 + 150 mg.L-1 (BAP + GA3) at 15, 30 and 45 DAA increased the weight, diameter, length, acidity and the percentage of fruits type 8 of ‘Tommy Atkins’ mango, but it did not increase yield.

In this study, lipase from Candida antarctica B (Lipozyme CaLB-L) was successfully immobilized on SiO2 through adsorption and used to obtain (R)-(+)-esters derived from (R,S)-1-phenylethanol. The new immobilized enzyme was compared with commercially immobilized lipases (Novozyme 435, Lipozyme 435 and Pseudomonas cepacia (PSC-II and PSD-I)). Lipozyme CaLB-L adsorbed onto SiO2 was found to be a good catalyst and, under optimal conditions, esters could be obtained with conversion 44%, enantiomeric excess of product (eep) > 99%, enantiomeric excess of substract (ees) 77% and enantiomeric ratio (E) > 200. The lipase maintained enantioselectivity under adverse conditions, such as in organic solvents, with an excess of substrate and at different temperatures. The immobilized lipase could be reused five times with no significant loss of the activity.

The narrative model in psychopathology and psychotherapy, increasing dynamic since the initial proposal of White and Epston (1990), reaffirms itself as a “discursive” critique of psychopathological diagnosis categories, as well as of cognitive and practical asymmetry within the psychotherapeutical relationship. In this paper, we examine the epistemological foundations of this model, turning to Michel Foucault to examine the symbolic processes inherent to the narrative creation of subjectivity.

Das narrative Modell der Psychopathologie und Psychotherapie, dessen Dynamik seit White und Epston (1990) zugenommen hat, versteht sich als 'diskursive' Kritik der diagnostischen Kategorien von psychischen Störungen, sowie der kognitiven und praktischen Asymmetrie der therapeutischen Beziehung. In diesem Artikel untersuchen wir die Grundlagen dieses Modells und analysieren, unter Bezugnahme von Michel Foucaults Theorie, die symbolischen Prozesse der narrativen Schaffung von Subjektivität.

RESUMO Os anfíbios podem utilizar as bromélias para reprodução (i.e., espécies bromelígenas) ou apenas para refúgio e forrageamento (i.e., espécies bromelícolas). A partição dos recursos de bromélias é essencial para manter a coexistência da assembleia associada. Amostramos 913 bromélias em uma planície costeira arenosa (i.e., restinga) no sudeste do Brasil e encontramos 234 anfíbios pertencentes a sete espécies. Uma espécie de anfíbio é bromelígena e as outras seis espécies são bromelícolas. As bromélias do gênero Aechmea foram as mais frequentemente utilizadas pelos anfíbios. A baixa taxa de ocupação de bromélias (26%) sugere segregação de habitats. Nosso estudo destaca a importância da manutenção de espécies de bromélias para a conservação das assembleias de anfíbios associadas.

ABSTRACT Amphibians may use bromeliads for reproduction (i.e., bromeligenous species) or only for refuge and foraging (i.e., bromelicolous species). The partition of bromeliad resources is essential to maintain the coexistence of the associated assemblages. We sampled 913 bromeliads in a sandy coastal plain (i.e., restinga habitat) in southeastern Brazil and found 234 frogs belonging to seven species. One of the frog species was bromeligenous and the other six were facultative bromelicolous. The bromeliads of the genus Aechmea were the most frequently used by frogs. The low degree of frog occupancy of bromeliads (26%) suggests habitat segregation. Our study highlights the importance of maintenance of bromeliad species for conservation of the associated frog assemblages.

Resumo: Este artigo objetiva compreender os efeitos da atividade de escuta, na formação de profissionais em saúde. Consiste em estudo qualitativo, com análise de entrevistas semiestruturadas, aplicadas a dezoito estudantes da Universidade Federal de São Paulo, campus Baixada Santista, de Educação Física, Fisioterapia, Nutrição, Psicologia, Serviço Social e Terapia Ocupacional. Resultados apontam que a escuta sensível afetou os estudantes qualitativamente em relação à subjetividade e à prática profissional futura. Houve, também, valorização da oferta de atendimento humanizado, além da quebra de preconceitos e paradigmas; criação de vínculo terapêutico; superação de diferenças e compreensão de si, a partir da história de vida do outro.

Abstract: This article aims to understand the effects of listening in the training of health professionals. It is a qualitative study, analyzing semi-structured interviews applied to eighteen students of the Federal University of São Paulo, campus Baixada Santista, registered in Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Psychology, Social Work and Occupational Therapy programs. Results show that sensitive listening has affected students in a qualitative way in relation to subjectivity and future professional practice. There was appreciation of the provision of humanized care, breaking down prejudices and paradigms; creating therapeutic bonding; overcoming differences and understanding self from the life story of the other.

RESUMO A caracterização e a avaliação de novos genótipos de bananeira é uma etapa importante, tanto para os programas de melhoramento genético quanto para a indicação aos produtores. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a produção e a qualidade de frutos, em pós-colheita, das bananeiras 'Maravilha' e 'Preciosa', no primeiro e segundo ciclo de produção, cultivadas no Submédio do Vale do São Francisco. As mudas, produzidas por cultura de tecidos, foram transplantadas para o campo com seis meses de idade, cultivadas no espaçamento de 3 x 3 m. Nos dois ciclos avaliados, para todas as características, foi adotado o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com dois tratamentos (cultivares), dez repetições e duas plantas úteis por parcela, com bordadura externa ao ensaio. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: ciclo de produção (dias entre plantio e colheita), altura de planta, perímetro do pseudocaule, número de folhas adultas, massa da matéria fresca do cacho, número de pencas e de frutos por cacho, massa da matéria fresca da segunda penca; número, comprimento e diâmetro de frutos da segunda penca, relação polpa/casca, firmeza, pH, teor de sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez titulável (AT) e relação SS/AT. O cultivar 'Maravilha' apresentou características de planta e de produção superiores às do 'Preciosa'; quanto às características físico-químicas, o 'Preciosa' apresentou frutos com maiores teores de açúcares, todavia, menores em tamanho; para as demais características, os dois cultivares apresentaram comportamentos semelhantes entre si, no primeiro e no segundo ciclo de produção.

ABSTRACT The characterization and evaluation of new genotypes bananas is an important step both for breeding programs and for nomination to producers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield and fruit quality post-harvest of 'Maravilha' and 'Preciosa' bananas in the first and second production cycles, grown in Sub-middle São Francisco Valley. The seedlings produced by tissue culture, were transplanted to the field after six month old, cultivated in the spacing of 3 x 3 m. Both two cycles, for all characteristics was adopted a completely randomized design with two treatments (cultivars), 10 replicates and two plants per plot, with external borders test. The following variables were evaluated: production cycle (days between planting and harvesting), plant height, pseudostem perimeter, number of adult leaves, bunch fresh mass, number of cluster and fruits per bunch, fresh mass of the second cluster; number, length and diameter of fruits of the second cluster, pulp/skin ratio, firmness, pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA) and SS/TA ratio. The 'Maravilha' banana showed plant and yield characteristics superior to 'Preciosa' banana; in the physical and chemical characteristics, the 'Preciosa' banana had fruit with higher sugar content, however, smaller size; and for other characteristics, the two cultivars showed behavior similar to each other in the first and second production cycles.

RESUMO: Objetivo: analisar os efeitos do exercício respiratórios na biomecânica da deglutição de sujeitos normais. Métodos: o exercício muscular respiratório em sujeitos normais foi aplicado por sete dias consecutivos por meio de incentivador respiratório a fluxo (três séries de dez repetições para inspiração e expiração). A biomecânica da deglutição foi avaliada por videofluoroscopia, utilizando variáveis temporais (tempo de transição faríngea) e visuoperceptuais (número de deglutições, resíduos em seios piriformes e valéculas, penetração/aspiração). Para análise estatística foi aplicado o Teste de Wilcoxon, Igualdade de Duas Proporções e Kappa. Resultados: foram avaliadas 16 jovens do sexo feminino com média de idade de 21,2±3,4 anos. Nas variáveis visuoperceptuais observou-se concordância quase perfeita entre os avaliadores (p<0,001), bem como na temporal (p = 1,00). Após o período de treinamento houve redução no tempo de transição faríngea (p=0,02). Conclusão: o uso de incentivador respiratório a fluxo influenciou significantemente na biomecânica da deglutição, principalmente na redução do tempo de transição faríngea.

ABSTRACT: Purpose: to analyze the effects of the respiratory exercise in the biomechanics of swallowing in normal subjects. Methods: the muscle respiratory exercise in normal subjects was performed for seven consecutive days by the incentive spirometer flow (three sets of ten repetitions for inspiration and expiration).The biomechanics of swallowing was evaluated by video fluoroscopy through temporal variables (pharyngeal transition time) and visual-perceptual (number of swallows, waste in the pyriform sinuses and vallecula, penetration/aspiration). For statistical analysis, the Wilcoxon test, Equality of Two Proportions and Kappa were used. Results: 16 young women with a mean age of 21,2±3,4 years were evaluated. In visual-perceptual variables it was observed almost perfect agreement between evaluators (p<0,001) and in temporal variable (p=1,00). After the training period there was a significant reduction in the pharyngeal transition time (p=0,02). Conclusion: the use of incentive spirometer flow significantly influenced the biomechanics of swallowing, especially in reducing the pharyngeal transition time.

ABSTRACT The island rule suggests that, when mainland animals are isolated on islands, large animals tend to become smaller, while small animals tend to become larger. A small frog in eastern Brazil, Phyllodytes luteolus (Wied-Neuwied, 1824), is widely distributed in association with bromeliads. At the end of the last glaciation, parts of the mainland became islands due to rising sea levels, thereby isolating frog populations on these islands. If the island rule holds, we predicted that frogs on islands would tend to be larger than frogs on the mainland. We compared sizes (weight and length) of 30 randomly selected male frogs from the mainland with 30 from an island in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. We also sampled population density on the island and mainland because concurrent with changing sizes, depending on the causal relationship, density may also change. As predicted, island frogs tended to be larger (both in snout-vent length and weight) and were much more abundant. While not specifically addressed in this study, the absence of predators and interspecific competitors may explain both of these trends.

Este artigo faz uma comparação dos índices de vegetação Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Simple Ratio (SR) e Transformed Vegetation Index (TVI), na discriminação das fitofisionomias de três ambientes do Pantanal de Cáceres, Mato Grosso, considerando a sazonalidade (períodos seco e úmido). As imagens utilizadas foram as do satélite Landsat TM 5, do ano de 2009 (período seco) e de 2010 (período úmido). As análises mostraram que o NDVI apresentou melhor desempenho em relação ao SR e TVI para os diferentes ambientes.

This paper compares the performance of some vegetation indexes: Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Simple Ratio (SR) e Transformed Vegetation Index (TVI), applied in seasonal periods to verify which one best fits to discriminate the vegetation types of environments of 'Pantanal' in Cáceres, Mato Grosso state, Brazil, in Landsat TM 5 image of 2009 in the dry period and 2010 in the humid period. Result verification of indexes images showed that NDVI provide a better performance than the SR and TVI indexes for different environments.

A avaliação do comportamento de genótipos de bananeira em diferentes ecossistemas é essencial ao programa de melhoramento genético, tornando-se de fundamental importância para o sistema produtivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento da bananeira 'Prata Anã' (AAB), nos 1° e 2° ciclos de produção, e os atributos físico-químicos dos frutos, no Submédio São Francisco. As mudas foram produzidas pelo processo de cultura de tecidos, na Biofábrica de Cruz das Almas, BA, e transplantadas para o campo com seis meses de idade, cultivadas no espaçamento 3 x 3 m. Foram avaliados os ciclos de produção (em dias) e, em cada ciclo, a altura das plantas, o perímetro do pseudocaule e o número de folhas adultas. Quanto à produção, foram avaliadas as seguintes características: massa da matéria fresca do cacho; número de pencas e de frutos por cacho; massa da matéria fresca da 2ª penca; número, comprimento e diâmetro de frutos da 2ª penca; relação polpa/casca; firmeza; pH; sólidos solúveis (SS); acidez titulável (AT) e a relação SS/AT. Verificou-se diferença significativa para a maioria das variáveis analisadas: o segundo ciclo de produção da bananeira 'Prata Anã' foi menor do que o primeiro, sendo que, no segundo ciclo, ocorreram tendências de maior crescimento e de melhor desempenho dos caracteres que expressam a produção e a qualidade física dos frutos.

Evaluation of the behavior of banana genotypes in different ecosystems is essential in a breeding program, making it crucial for the production system. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth behavior of banana 'Prata Anã' (AAB) in the 1st and 2nd cycles of production and fruit physical-chemical attributes in the sub- middle region of the São Francisco River Valley. The seedlings were produced by tissue culture in a Biofactory in Cruz das Almas - BA and transplanted to the field after six months, in a spacing of 3 x 3 m. It was evaluated the production cycles (in days) and in each cycle, plant height, pseudostem perimeter and the number of mature leaves. The following characteristicsof production were evaluated: bunch fresh mass, number of cluster and fruits per bunch; fresh mass of the 2nd cluster, number, length and diameter of fruits in the 2nd cluster; pulp/skin ratio; firmness, pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA) and SS/TA ratio. There was significant difference for most variables: the second production cycle of banana 'Prata Anã' was shorter than the first, on the second cycle occurred trends of increased growth and better performance of the characters that express production and fruit physical quality.

INTRODUÇÃO: O ato de deglutir depende de um processo complexo e dinâmico, utilizando estruturas comuns ao ato de respirar, problemas respiratórios podem gerar dificuldades na deglutição. OBJETIVO: Analisar a fase faríngea da deglutição em portadores de tosse crônica. MÉTODO: Estudo retrospectivo com 15 pacientes, ambos os sexos, portadores de tosse crônica e com fatores de risco para aspiração definidos pelo diagnóstico pneumológico. Os pacientes foram submetidos à anamnese sobre queixas em relação à deglutição, respiração ou relacionadas à alimentação e ao exame de videofluoroscopia. RESULTADOS: No grau de disfagia, observou-se que 33,3% apresentaram deglutição normal e deglutição funcional, sendo estes de maior prevalência. A disfagia leve foi observada em 20% dos pacientes, em 6,7% disfagia leve à moderada. Em relação à escala Rosenbek, 73,3% dos pacientes apresentaram grau 1, 6,7% apresentaram os graus 2 e 3, o grau 8 foi encontrado em 13,3% dos pacientes. A patologia mais encontrada foi tosse crônica com 40%, seguida de asma com 20%, 69,2% dos pacientes apresentaram estase e desses, cinco utilizaram manobras de proteção, dessas sete foram efetivas, somente três foram utilizadas na presença da estase. A manobra mais utilizada foi deglutição múltipla, sendo efetiva em 100%. CONCLUSÃO: Há especificidades no funcionamento da deglutição dos pacientes com tosse crônica que, apesar de não apresentar queixas relativas à deglutição, apresenta risco aspirativo importante devido à presença de alterações no padrão respiratório o que pode intervir na coordenação entre respiração e deglutição, que é fundamental para a proteção da via aérea inferior.

INTRODUCTION: The act of swallowing depends on a complex and dynamic process which uses common structures to the act of breathing; respiratory problems can cause swallowing difficulties. AIM: To assess the swallowing pharyngeal phase in patients with chronic cough. METHOD: Retrospective study with 15 patients of both genders, patients with chronic cough and risk factors for aspiration defined by the pneumologic diagnosis. The patients were submitted to anamnesis on complaints related to swallowing, chewing and breathing, or related to food and to videofluoroscopic examination. RESULTS: It was observed that 33.3% had normal and functional swallowing, being the last one of most prevalence. The mild dysphagia was observed in 20% of the patients, the mild to moderate dysphagia in 6.7% of them. In relation to the Rosenbek scale, 73.3% of patients presented degree 1, 6.7% presented degrees 2 and 3, and 13.3% presented degree 8. The most found pathology was the chronic cough with 40%, followed by asthma with 20%; 69.2% of patients presented stasis and of these, five used protection maneuvers, of these, seven were effective and only three were used in the presence of stasis. The most used maneuver was the multiple swallowing, being effective in 100%. CONCLUSION: There are peculiarities in the patients' swallowing with chronic cough that, although not presenting complaints relating to swallowing, it presents an important aspiration risk due to the presence of changes in breathing pattern that can intervene in the coordination between breathing and swallowing, which is essential to protect the lower airway.
