A cobertura vegetal exerce papel fundamental na manutenção e no equilíbrio do ciclo hidrológico, desempenhando funções no controle da produção de água que garantem a permanência de vazões. O uso de modelos matemáticos é uma alternativa para representar o sistema hidrológico e auxiliar na compreensão dos fenômenos que envolvem as variáveis do ciclo da água para antecipar impactos decorrentes de eventuais mudanças no uso da terra. Neste trabalho é utilizado o modelo hidrológico SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) para analisar a dinâmica da vazão na bacia do Rio Pará, em Minas Gerais, Brasil, com o objetivo de avaliar o impacto provocado pelas alterações de uso do solo na disponibilidade de água da bacia do Rio Pará. O ajuste do modelo foi avaliado pelo coeficiente de eficiência de Nash-Sutcliffe (entre -0,057 a -0,059) indicando alta correlação e coeficiente de massa residual (0,757 a 0,793) e, portanto, um ajuste satisfatório. Estima-se que houve incremento de cerca de 10% na vazão da bacia em função das alterações no uso do solo, contemplando basicamente a supressão da vegetação original de Cerrado e de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual para implantação de pastagem em 38% do território da bacia.

Plant cover plays an essential role in the maintenance and balance of the hydrological cycle, performing functions in the control of water availability, which guarantee flow permanence. The use of mathematical models is an alternative to represent the hydrological system and help in the understanding of phenomena involving the variables of the water cycle, in order to anticipate and predict impacts from potential changes in land use. In the present study, the hydrological model SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) was used to analyse the dynamics of flow and water flow in the Pará River Basin, Minas Gerais, Brazil, aiming to evaluate the impact caused by changes in land use in water availability. The adjusted model was assessed by the coefficient of efficiency of Nash-Sutcliffe (between -0.057 to -0.059), indicating high correlation and coefficient of residual mass (0.757 to 0.793) and therefore a satisfactory fit. An increase of about 10% in the basin flow was estimated, as a function of changes in land use, when simulating the removal of the original 'Cerrado' vegetation and of the seasonal semideciduous forest for pasture implementation in 38% of the basin.

Uma análise do comportamento de forrageamento da abelha Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) cearensis Ducke em indivíduos de Cuphea brachiata Koehne (Lythraceae), subarbusto chave para a comunidade das dunas do Abaeté, Salvador, BA, sugere que essa abelha é importante na manutenção dessa população vegetal, realizando a polinização. Tal dispersão, no entanto, é espacialmente restrita, de maneira que as populações de C. brachiata na área devem se apresentar altamente estruturadas geneticamente, devido principalmente à auto-incompatibilidade da espécie.

An analysis of the foraging behavior of the bee Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) cearensis Ducke among shrubs of Cuphea brachiata Koehne (Lythraceae), a key component in the Abaeté coastal sand dunes, Salvador, BA, Brazil, suggests that this bee is very important for the maintenance of the plant population, performing the pollination. This dispersal, however, is spatially restricted, so the populations in the area are likely to be highly structured genetically.

Foi avaliada a influência de fatores abióticos e recursos florais na freqüência de visitas de insetos a Stachytarpheta glabra Cham, em uma área de campo ferruginoso, Ouro Preto, MG. Foram coletados 312 insetos visitantes pertencentes a 28 espécies. As maiores abundâncias foram as de Oxaea flavescens Klug (25%), Vespidae sp1 (11,5%), Vespidae sp2 (11%), Antheos clorinde Hubner (10,3%) e Vespidae sp3 (10%). A abundância de visitantes florais acompanhou a variação dos fatores abióticos ao longo do dia (intensidade luminosa: F = 6,968, P = 0,014, r² = 0,757; temperatura: F = 7,708, P = 0,010, r² = 0,762; umidade relativa: F = 5,263, P = 0,030, r² = 0,744). O número de flores e inflorescências (rS = 0,81, n = 20, P < 0,001 e rS = 0,82, n = 20, P < 0,001, respectivamente) influenciaram a abundância de visitantes. Não houve relação significativa entre a abundância de visitantes florais e a altura das plantas. Halictidae prefere altas luminosidades e temperaturas para forragear. Abelhas grandes (Apidae e Andrenidae), ao contrário, são mais tolerantes às variações de temperatura e forrageiam praticamente durante todo o dia. Vespidae prefere altas temperaturas, porém suporta bem as variações nas taxas de luminosidade. Lepidoptera forrageia preferencialmente em luminosidade e temperatura mais altas. Os potenciais polinizadores são borboletas, mariposas, Eulaema nigrita Lepeletier e Apis mellifera L. sendo os pilhadores de S. glabra Vespidae, Halictidae, Bombus atratus Franklin e O. flavescens.

The influence of abiotic factors and floral resources on the frequency of insect visitors to Stachytarpheta glabra Cham was assessed in an area of ferruginous fields, Ouro Preto, MG. A total of 312 insects were collected, belonging to 28 species. The highest abundances were for Oxaea flavescens Klug (25%), Vespidae sp1 (11.5%), Vespidae sp2 (11%), Antheos clorinde Hubner (10.3%) and Vespidae sp3 (10%). There was a positive relation of abundance with light intensity (r² = 0.66, b = 0.82, P < 0.001) and temperature (r² = 0.40, b = 0.65, P = 0.001), and a negative relation with relative humidity (r² = 0.34, b = -0.60, P < 0.001). The number of flowers and inflorescences (rS = 0.81, n = 20, P < 0.001 e rS = 0.82, n = 20, P < 0.001, respectively) influenced the abundance of visits. No significant relation was found with plant height. Halictidae prefer to forage at high temperatures and light intensity. Large bees (Apidae and Andrenidae), on the other hand, are more tolerant to temperature variations and forage during the whole day. Vespidae prefer high temperatures but tolerate variation in light intensity. Lepidoptera forage preferentially during periods of high light intensity and temperature. Butterflies, moths, Eulaema nigrita Lepeleier and Apis mellifera L. are the potential pollinators whereas Vespidae, Halictidae, Bombus atratus Franklin and O. flavescens were thieves in S. glabra flowers.
