RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a abundância, tipos e características (tamanho, morfologia e cor) de Microplásticos (MPs) em sedimentos superficiais em dois riachos em uma região andina do Peru. Amostras de sedimentos superficiais foram coletadas no riacho Ishoj (11 locais de amostragem) e no riacho Uyru Rume (8 locais de amostragem), e a separação por densidade foi realizada usando solução salina de alta densidade (cloreto de zinco, ZnCl2) para separar os MPs do sedimento. A abundância de MPs variou de 0 a 2.216 itens/Kg (córrego Ishoj) e 0 a 6.383 itens/Kg (córrego Uyru Rume). Em ambos os córregos, a concentração máxima de MPs foi nos locais localizados próximos aos lixões (coleta de resíduos sólidos, a jusante) e o valor mínimo foi encontrado nos locais localizados na zona alta. O tamanho, morfologia e cor predominante em ambos os riachos foram inferiores a 1 mm, fragmentados e transparentes, respectivamente. Nenhum MP foi encontrado em forma de pellet. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the concentration, types and characteristics (size, morphology and color, as well as polymer composition) of MPs in surface sediments in two streams in an Andean region of Peru. Surface sediment samples were collected in Ishoj stream (11 sampling sites) and Uyru Rume stream (8 sampling sites), and density separation was performed using high-density saline solution (zinc chloride, ZnCl2) to separate the MPs from the sediment. Resumen Se evaluó el impacto de varios plaguicidas sobre la diversidad de la artropofauna asociada al cultivo de papa comercial, en Mollepata, provincia de Anta en Cusco-Perú, para determinar que gremios tróficos (GT) de la artropofauna son afectados. Los tratamientos fueron fipronil, propineb y convencional (rotación de varios plaguicidas). Se dispusieron 35 trampas de caída en cada tratamiento con la finalidad de recolectar la artropofauna presente en el cultivo de papa. Fueron realizadas cinco aplicaciones del tratamiento correspondiente y se efectuó un total de cinco revisiones con una frecuencia de catorce días entre ellas. Las familias más abundantes fueron Hemiptera: Cicadellidae (19,82 %), Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae (16,33 %) y Diptera: Sciaridae (11,92 %). El propineb fue el tratamiento que presentó, a nivel de familia, el mayor número total de individuos. Para todo el estudio, a nivel de GT la secuencia decreciente del total de familias fue: fitófago con 30 familias (32,97 %); depredadores 23 familias (26,37 %); detritívoros 20 familias (21,98 %); parasitoides 10 familias (9,89 %); polinizadores seis familias (6,59 %) y omnívoro dos familias (2,20 %). El propineb presentó los valores del número total de individuos más altos en los fitófagos y los parasitoides. Por otro lado, los índices de diversidad alfa no presentaron diferencias entre tratamientos para los gremios omnívoros, detritívoros, polinizadores y depredadores. Los índices de diversidad beta fueron variables, obteniendo en general una mayor similaridad entre el tratamiento de fipronil y el convencional. Los GT fitófagos y parasitoides fueron los que presentaron los valores más diferenciados al evaluar el efecto de los plaguicidas en la artropofauna del suelo con base a los índices de diversidad alfa.

Abstract The impact of several pesticides on the diversity of arthropofauna associated with commercial potato cultivation was evaluated in Mollepata, province of Anta in Cusco-Peru, to determine which trophic guilds (TG) are affected. The treatments were fipronil, propineb and conventional (rotation of several pesticides). Thirty-five pitfall traps were placed in each treatment with the purpose of collecting the arthropofauna in potatoes. Five applications of the corresponding treatment were carried out and a total of five check-ups were carried out with a frequency of fourteen days. The most abundant families were Hemiptera: Cicadellidae (19.82%), Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae (16.33%) and Diptera: Sciaridae (11.92%). Propineb was the treatment that presented, at the family level, the largest total number of individuals. For the entire study, at the level of TG, the decreasing sequence of the total number of families was: phytophagous with 30 families (32.97%); predators 23 families (26.37%); detritivores 20 families (21.98%); parasitoids 10 families (9.89%); pollinators six families (6.59%) and finally omnivorous with two families (2.20%). Propineb presented the highest values of the total number of individuals in phytophages and parasitoids. On the other hand, alpha diversity indices did not present differences between treatments for omnivores, detritivores, pollinators and predators. The beta diversity indices were variable, generally obtaining greater similarity between the fipronil and conventional treatment. The phytophagous and parasitoid TGs were those that presented the most differentiated values when evaluating the effect of pesticides on soil arthropofauna based on alpha diversity indices.

ABSTRACT Callao Bay is strategically important for the industrial and tourist sector, serving as a recreational space for a large part of the population of Chalaca. However, even so, it permanently receives discharges of effluents, chemical products, and residues from oil refineries, hydrocarbons, and domestic and agricultural residues. The objective of this research is to evaluate biochemical indicators in fish against contaminants in the coastal area of Callao, Peru. The seasonal criterion (collections in autumn, spring, summer, and winter) and the spatial criterion (collections at four points along the coastal zone of Callao) were considered. Isacia conceptionis and Odontesthes regia showed relatively high concentration values of the enzyme alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Specifically, ALT is an enzyme used to assess liver function. Sciaena deliciosa showed high levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in the liver but low values of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and ALT. In addition, ALP is an indicator of renal impairment; in saltwater fish, its increase may be related to the increase in water salinity. The fish with the highest trophic level among the marine fish analyzed was O. regia. This fish presented the lowest values of ALP in the liver and muscle ALP and AChE (acetylcholinesterase) in the liver and the highest values for AST. S. deliciosa and O. regia are species that can be used in environmental biomonitoring, showing variation to the biomarkers studied because they have shown changes in the values of biochemical markers, mainly AChE of the brain and muscle, and in the protein concentrations of muscle, brain, and liver between seasons and sampling points in Callao Bay. It is concluded that the marine fish models evaluated are very useful in assessing contamination in Callao Bay.

RESUMO Microplásticos (MPs) estão presentes em sedimentos superficiais depositados nas ruas das cidades como resultado do escoamento de águas pluviais. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a abundância e as característica com base no tamanho, forma e cor dos MPs em sedimentos superficiais depositados pelo do escoamento de águas pluviais da cidade de Madeán nos Andes peruanos. Amostras de sedimentos superficiais foram coletadas em triplicata em cada um dos oito locais amostrados. Os sedimentos são depositados em alguns trechos das ruas do centro povoado devido ao efeito do escoamento das águas pluviais. Em seguida, em laboratório, foi realizada a separação dos MPs do sedimento pelo método de separação por densidade com solução de NaCl. Os oito pontos de amostragem apresentaram MPs no centro povoado com valor de 292,91 ± 149,32 (Itens de MPs/Kg de sedimento), mas houve diferenças significativas na abundância de MPs entre os pontos de coleta. As características de tamanho predominantes dos MPs foram SMP (pequenos microplásticos) (50,95%) e LMP (grandes microplásticos) (49,05%), da forma: fibra (60,66%) e fragmento (38,39%) e da cor: azul (29,86%), preto (25,59%) e vermelho (23,22%), respectivamente. ABSTRACT Microplastics (MPs) are present in surface sediments deposited on city streets as a result of stormwater runoff. The objective of this study was to determine the abundance and characteristics of MPs in surface sediments deposited by stormwater runoff from the village of Madeán in the Peruvian Andes based on size, shape, and color. Surface sediment samples were collected in triplicate at each of the eight sample sites. The sediments were deposited in some parts of the streets of this village due to the effect of rainwater runoff. The separation of MPs from the sediment was carried out in the laboratory by the density separation method with NaCl solution. The eight sampling sites in Madeán presented 292.91 ± 149.32 (MP Items/Kg of sediment) of MPs, showing significant differences in the abundance of MPs among the different sampling sites. The predominant characteristics of the MPs were small size (SMP) (50.95%) and large size MPs (LMP) (49.05%), being fiber (60.66%) and fragmented (38.39%) in morphology, and blue (29.86%), black (25.59%), and red (23.22%) in color, respectively. The following investigation suggests that solid waste is not being adequately managed by finding the presence of MPs in the sediments that are in the street ditches. Resumen Se evaluó la toxicidad de cuatro plaguicidas en los servicios ecosistémicos de la artropofauna terrestre en el cultivo de cacao. Se aplicó cipermetrina (T1), carbofurano (T2), oxicloruro de cobre (T3) y clorpirifos (T4) en una finca de cacao en San Martín, Perú. Se colocaron cuarenta trampas de caída por cada tratamiento para capturar a la artropofauna terrestre en cuatro evaluaciones. Se concluye que las familias que presentaron mayor abundancia de individuos fueron Formicidae, Entomobryidae y Poduridae. Para la evaluación global, se encontraron diferencias significativas en los depredadores para el índice de riqueza específica, siendo T3 el que presentó los números más bajos; mientras que para el índice de Margalef, el valor más bajo fue T3. Para el análisis por evaluaciones se encontraron diferencias significativas en los detritívoros durante la segunda evaluación para el número de individuos, siendo T4 el número más bajo. También se encontraron diferencias significativas en los depredadores durante la primera evaluación en el índice de Margalef, observándose en T4 el valor más bajo. El gremio trófico que permitió evaluar la toxicidad de forma más eficiente fueron los depredadores, la T1 es el plaguicida más compatible con los artrópodos terrestres asociados a cultivo de cacao y, los índices de diversidad alfa mostraron diferencias significativas entre los plaguicidas aplicados.

Abstract Toxicity of four pesticides in ecosystem services of terrestrial arthropofauna in cocoa cultivation was evaluated. Cypermethrin (T1), carbofuran (T2), copper oxychloride (T3) and chlorpyrifos (T4) were applied in a cocoa farm in San Martín, Peru. Forty pitfall traps were placed for each treatment to capture terrestrial arthropofauna in four evaluations. It is concluded that the families that presented the greatest abundance of individuals were Formicidae, Entomobryidae and Poduridae. For the global evaluation, significant differences were found in the predators for the specific richness index, being T3 the one that presented the lowest numbers; while for the Margalef index, the lowest value was T3. For the analysis by evaluations, significant differences were found in the detritivores during the second evaluation for the number of individuals, with T4 being the lowest number. Significant differences were also found in the predators during the first evaluation in the Margalef index, with the lowest value being observed in T4. The trophic guild that allowed the most efficient evaluation of the toxicity were the predators, T1 is the most compatible pesticide with the terrestrial arthropods associated with cocoa cultivation, and the alpha diversity indices showed significant differences between the applied pesticides.

Resumen Introducción. La palma aceitera (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) en la Amazonia peruana tiene un área instalada en producción de 72 861 ha, cuyo procesamiento del fruto genera residuos sólidos como el escobajo y el mesocarpio secos. Objetivo. Determinar las características fisicoquímicas de la biomasa residual, escobajo y fibra del fruto, de la extracción de aceite de palma en la Amazonia peruana, para su potencial uso en la elaboración de materiales biodegradables. Materiales y métodos. Durante agosto a octubre del 2020, se recolectaron 19,39 t/día de escobajo y 13,05 t/día de fibra del fruto de la palma aceitera en Pucallpa, Distrito de Neshuya, Perú. Los análisis de solubilidad en agua caliente y humedad se determinaron mediante la prueba estándar americana (American Society for Testing and Materials). La solubilidad en soda, se obtuvo mediante el estándar de Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. Para la determinación de la celulosa, hemicelulosa y lignina, se empleó la cromatografía líquida de alta resolución (HPLC) y detector de índice de refracción (RI). Resultados. Las propiedades físicas de humedad (%) y solubilidad en soda (%) no presentaron diferencias entre el escobajo y la fibra. El escobajo y la fibra presentaron solubilidad en agua caliente con valores inferiores al 17 %. Las propiedades químicas en la fibra fueron mayores que en el escobajo, en base al porcentaje de celulosa, hemicelulosa y lignina. Conclusiones. Los resultados físicos y químicos del escobajo y de la fibra del fruto de palma aceitera, permitirían el desarrollo de procesos tecnológicos adecuados para su conversión a productos biológicos.

Abstract Introduction. The oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in the Peruvian Amazon has an installed production area of 72,861 ha, whose fruit processing generates solid residues such as the stalk and dry mesocarp. Objective. To determine the physicochemical characteristics of the residual biomass, stalk, and fruit fiber from palm oil extraction in the Peruvian Amazon, for its potential use in the elaboration of biodegradable materials. Materials and methods. During August to October 2020, 19.39 t/day of stalk and 13.05 t/day of oil palm fruit fiber were collected in Pucallpa, Neshuya District, Peru. Solubility analyzes in hot water and moisture were determined using the American standard test (American Society for Testing and Materials). The solubility in soda was obtained using the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry standard method. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and refractive index (RI) detector were used to determine cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Results. The physical properties of moisture (%) and solubility in soda (%) showed no differences between stalk and fiber. Both stalk and the fiber showed solubility in hot water, with values lower than 17 %. The chemical properties of the fiber were higher than those in the stalk, based on the percentage of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Conclusions. The physical and chemical results of oil palm stalk and fruit fiber would allow the development of appropriate technological processes for their conversion to biological products.

Resumen Introducción. Los ecosistemas tropicales andinos y amazónicos determinan la gran biodiversidad presente en Perú. Sin embargo, los estudios sobre mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae) en el país son escasos, lo que resulta en un vacío de información en cuanto a su diversidad, ecología, distribución y abundancia. Objetivos. Buscar evidencia documentada sobre la diversidad y la distribución de mosquitos en el Perú, y establecer -con relación a las especies de importancia médica- su potencial vínculo con el ciclo epidemiológico de algunas enfermedades metaxénicas. Materiales y métodos. Se realizó una revisión de la literatura en Google Académico, ScienceDirect, PubMed y Scielo, así como en siete bases de datos especializadas en taxonomía de insectos, usando términos específicos y diferentes combinaciones con operadores booleanos ("AND" y "OR"). Estrategia de búsqueda: tipos de estudios: artículos originales de investigación, artículos de revisión, libros y capítulos de libros; periodo de publicación: sin límite inicial a junio del 2020; idiomas: inglés, español y portugués. Resultados. La búsqueda inicial arrojó 99 estudios, 84 en las 4 bases de datos electrónicas y 15 en las bases de datos especializadas, de los cuales 41 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. También se incluyó un registro adicional debido a su relevancia con el objetivo de la revisión. Los estudios incluidos fueron artículos originales (n=28), artículos de revisión (n=6), libros (n=5), capítulos de libro (n=2) y tesis de pregrado (n=1). Respecto al idioma de publicación, 25 (59.52%) estaban en inglés y 17 (40.48%), en español. Conclusiones. En Perú, la mayor diversidad de géneros de mosquitos se encuentra presente en los departamentos de Loreto, Huánuco y Madre de Dios. El conocimiento sobre la diversidad de mosquitos en Perú que tienen el potencial de generar problemas de salud es relativamente escaso y se centra en el Aedes aegypti y algunas especies de los géneros Anopheles y Culex, dejando de lado una rica diversidad distribuida en los bosques amazónicos, la selva alta y los valles interandinos.

Abstract Introduction: Tropical Andean and Amazonian ecosystems shape the great biodiversity found in Peru. However, studies on mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in the country are scarce, resulting in an information gap regarding their diversity, ecology, distribution, and abundance. Objective: To search for documented evidence on the diversity and distribution of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in Peru, and to establish -in relation to species of medical relevance- their potential link with the epidemiological cycle of some metaxenic diseases. Materials and methods: A literature review was conducted in Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and SciELO, as well as in 7 databases specialized in insect taxonomy, using specific terms and their combinations by means of Boolean operators ("AND" and "OR"). Search strategy: study types: original research articles, review articles, books, and book chapters; publication period: no initial date - June 2020; languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Results: A total of 99 studies were retrieved after the initial search, 84 in the 4 electronic databases and 15 in the specialized databases, of which 41 met the inclusion criteria. One additional record was included due to its relevance to the objective of the review. The studies included were original articles (n=28), review articles (n=6), books (n=5), book chapters (n=2), and undergraduate theses (n=1). Regarding the language of publication, 25 (59.52%) were published in English and 17 (40.48%) in Spanish. Conclusions: In Peru, the greatest diversity of mosquito genera is found in the departments of Loreto, Huánuco, and Madre de Dios. Knowledge of the diversity of mosquitoes in Peru that have the potential to cause health issues is relatively scarce and is focused on Aedes aegypti and some species of the Anopheles and Culex genera, thus overlooking a rich diversity distributed in the Amazonian forests, high jungle, and inter-Andean valleys.

Abstract The research evaluated the impact of three pesticides on Eisenia fetida in the cultivation of Allium cepa (onion) in the district of Lurín, Lima, Peru. The mean lethal dose values (LD50) at 14 days, evasion percentage and food activity were evaluated as well as the exposure ratio of the toxic (TER) and the environmental risk coefficient (RQ) on pesticides zeta-cypermethrin, pendimethalin and profenofos based on ecotoxicological tests with E. fetida. The LD50 values at an exposure time at 14 d for the three pesticides were: zeta-cypermethrin>profenofos>pendimethalin. A relationship with the dose of pesticides close to the LD50 was calculated for the evasion and for food activity. TER value for the three pesticides was calculated which indicated no ecotoxicological impact for E. fetida. However, in the CR value, there were high risk values in the total, where zeta-cypermethrin indicated 92.77% of the environmental risk, while pendimethalin presented the lowest environmental risk with 0.09%. Within Peruvian legislation, these pesticides are still allowed to be used; hence, based on this research, it is suggested that zeta-cypermethrin be evaluated in more detail, because it was the only pesticide that presented a significant CR. In conclusion, zeta-cypermethrin causes an environmental impact on the onion crop in Lurin.

Resumen La investigación evaluó el impacto de tres plaguicidas sobre Eisenia fetida en el cultivo de Allium cepa (cebolla) en el distrito de Lurín, Lima, Perú. Se calcularon los valores de dosis letal media (DL50) a los 14 días, porcentaje de evasión y actividad alimentaria, y posteriormente la proporción de exposición del tóxico (TER) y el coeficiente de riesgo ambiental (CR) para los plaguicidas zeta-cipermetrina, pendimetalina y profenofos en base a ensayos ecotoxicológicos con E. fetida. Los valores de DL50 a un tiempo de exposición a los 14 días para los tres plaguicidas fueron: zeta-cipermetrina >profenofos >pendimetalina. Se calculó una relación con la dosis de los plaguicidas cercanos a la DL50 para la evasión y para la actividad alimentaria. El valor TER para los tres plaguicidas fue calculado e indicó que no hay impacto ecotoxicológico para E. fetida. Sin embargo, en el valor de CR se presentaron valores de riesgo alto en el total, donde la zeta-cipermetrina indicó el 92,77% del riesgo ambiental, mientras que la pendimetalina presentó el menor riesgo ambiental con 0,09%. Dentro de la legislación peruana, estos plaguicidas siguen siendo permitidos, por lo cual, en base a esta investigación, se recomienda que se evalúe a más detalle la zeta-cipermetrina, debido a que fue el único plaguicida que presentó un CR significativo. En conclusión, la zeta-cipermetrina ocasiona impacto ambiental en el cultivo de cebolla del distrito de Lurín.

Resumen En el Perú, en los peces cartilaginosos aún hay un extenso vacío de información sobre su fauna parasitaria acompa ñante. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la comunidad de metazoos parásitos del pejegallo Callorhinchus callorynchus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Chimaeriformes: Callorhinchidae) procedentes de la pesca artesanal en San Andrés, Pisco, Ica, Perú. Se colectaron 31 especímenes de C. callorynchus entre junio del 2018 y octubre del 2019. Tras realizar la necropsia se obtuvieron seis especies de parásitos: Gyrocotyle rugosa Diesing, 1850 (Cestoda), Callorhynchocotyle callorhynchi (Manter, 1955) (Monogenea), Callorhynchicola branchialis Brinkmann, 1952 (Monogenea), Branchellion lobata Moore, 1952 (Hirudinea), Prokroyeria meridionalis (Ramírez, 1975) (Copepoda) y una especie no identificada de la familia Anisakidae (Nematoda). El céstodo G. rugosa, fue el parásito de mayor prevalencia (77,42%), seguido por el monogeneo Cle. callorhynchi (54,84%) y finalmente el copépodo P. meridio nalis (16,13%). La longitud total corporal y el sexo de Ca. callorynchus no mostraron ninguna asociación con respecto a los índices parasitológicos de prevalencia, intensidad y abundancia media. Se registra por segunda vez a Cle. callorhynchi y Cla. branchialis en el mismo hospedero, pero por primera vez en el departamento de Ica. El presente estudio constituye el primer registro geográfico para el Perú de G. rugosa, B. lobata, P. meridionalis y un nuevo registro de hospedero para una especie no identificada de la familia Anisakidae en el pejegallo.

Abstract There is an extensive lack of information on the parasitic fauna accompanying cartilaginous fish in Peru. The objective of this work was to identify the community of parasite metazoans of the cockfish Callorhinchus callorynchus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Chimaeriformes: Callorhinchidae) from artisanal fishing in San Andrés, Pisco, Ica, Peru. Thirty-one specimens of C. callorynchus were collected between June 2018 and October 2019. Following nec ropsy, six species of parasites were obtained: Gyrocotyle rugosa Diesing, 1850 (Cestoda), Callorhynchocotyle callo rhynchi (Manter, 1955) (Monogenea), Callorhynchicola branchialis Brinkmann, 1952 (Monogenea), Branchellion lobata Moore, 1952 (Hirudinea), Prokroyeria meridionalis (Ramírez, 1975) (Copepoda) and an unidentified spe cies of the Anisakidae family (Nematoda). The G. rugosa tapeworm was the most prevalent parasite (77.42%), followed by the monogenean Cle. callorhynchi (54.84%) and finally the copepod P. meridionalis (16.13%). The total body length and sex of Ca. callorynchus showed no association with respect to the parasitological indices of prevalence, intensity, and mean abundance. Cle. callorhynchi and Cla. branchialis were registered for the second time in the same host, but for the first time in the department of Ica. However, the present study constitutes the first geographic record of G. rugosa, B. lobata, and P. meridionalis, and a new host for an unidentified species of the Anisakidae family in cockfish in Peru.

RESUMEN A pesar de que la muda constituye una actividad importante y costosa en el ciclo de vida de aves, este proceso es poco conocido en especies neotropicales y lo es aún menos para especies que habitan ambientes urbanos. Estudiamos los patrones de muda, criterios de determinación de edad y sexo y datos mor-fométricos correspondientes a siete especies de aves residentes comunes en un área urbana de la ciudad de Lima, Perú. Todas las especies evidenciaron muda prebásica completa. Mudas preformativa parcial a incompleta excéntrica fueron evidenciadas para Camptostoma obsoletum, Pyrocephalus rubinus, Cata-mema analis, Poospiza hispaniolensis, Coereba flaveola y Thraupis episcopus; mientras que Columbina cruziana evidenció una muda completa. Todos los traúpidos exhibieron mudas prealterna parcial. Las mudas preformativa y prebásica fueron registradas principalmente durante la temporada seca, y los pocos registros de muda prealterna sugieren su ocurrencia poco después de la temporada húmeda. Nuestras especies también exhibieron una baja sincronía de muda, y algunas de ellas (C. cruziana, P. rubinus y C. flaveola) exhibieron períodos extensos de muda probablemente explicados por su potencial para reproducirse durante el año o la existencia de mudas suspendida / prolongada. El análisis morfométrico evidenció diferencias significativas según sexo para C. cruziana, P. rubinus y C. analis, siendo la cuerda alar la característica más común para distinguir sexos. Nuestro estudio cubre un vacío importante en conocimiento de la historia natural de aves urbanas y proporciona información para probar hipótesis sobre la variación de patrones de muda en especies con amplia distribución en las Américas.

ABSTRACT Despite molting is an important and expensive activity in the life cycle of birds, this process is poorly known for neotropical species and even less so for species inhabiting urban zones. We studied molt patterns, aging and sexing criteria, and morphometrics for seven common resident species in an urban area of Lima city, Peru. All species evidenced complete prebasic molts. Partial to eccentric incomplete preformative molts were evidenced for six species (Camptostoma obsoletum, Pyrocephalus rubinus, Catamenia analis, Poospiza hispaniolensis, Coereba flaveola, and Thraupis episcopus); whereas Columbina cruziana exhibited a complete molt. All thraupid species exhibited partial prealternate molts. Preformative and prebasic molts were recorded mostly during the dry season, and the few records of prealternate molts might suggest its occurrence soon after the wet season. Our species also exhibited low molt synchrony, with some of them (C. cruziana, P. rubinus, and C. flaveola) exhibiting extensive molt periods likely explained by its potential to reproduce throughout the year and/or the existence of suspended/ protracted molts. Morphometric analysis evidenced significant differences according to sex for C. cruziana, P. rubinus, and C. analis, with the wing chord being the most common characteristic for distinguishing between sexes. Our study covers an important gap in the knowledge of the natural history of urban birds and provides information to test hypotheses of molt pattern variation on species with widespread distribution throughout the Americas.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to know the scientific production through the bibliometric analysis of the pre- and postgraduate theses related to parasites of terrestrial fauna in the universities of Peru. The research was observational, retrospective, documentary and descriptive. Bibliographic searches were carried out in the virtual repositories of the universities of Peru between 2000 and 2021 and 403 theses related to parasitology of terrestrial fauna were reviewed in 32 universities of Peru. There was greater productivity at the undergraduate level (94.0%) and the university with the highest number of theses was the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) (n=112). All the investigations were basic or pure, and the year of greatest support for this type of thesis was 2018. The samples used preferably came from the provinces (84.4%) and in the specialty of Veterinary Medicine (n=346), with the animal model being most used those belonging to the Mammalia class (n=370), especially in production animals (n=253). Regarding the follow-up of theses, only 20.4% were published as scientific articles, mostly in the Revista de Investigaciones Veterinarias del Perú (86.6%) in 2014. It is important that all undergraduate and postgraduate thesis work related to terrestrial fauna parasites culminate in a publication in a peer- reviewed and indexed scientific journal.

RESUMEN El objetivo de la presente investigación fue conocer la producción científica mediante el análisis bibliométrico de las tesis de pre- y posgrado relacionadas a parásitos de fauna terrestre en las universidades del Perú. La investigación fue de tipo observacional, retrospectiva, documental y descriptiva. Se realizaron búsquedas bibliográficas en los repositorios virtuales de las universidades del Perú entre el año 2000 al 2021 y se revisa- ron 403 tesis relacionadas a parasitología de fauna terrestre en 32 universidades del Perú. Existió una mayor productividad en el nivel de pregrado (94.0%) y la universidad con mayor número de tesis fue la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) (n=112). Todas las investigaciones fueron básicas o puras, y el año de mayor sustentación de este tipo de tesis fue 2018. Las muestras utilizadas provinieron preferentemente de las provincias (84.4%) y en la especialidad de Medicina Veterinaria (n=346), siendo el modelo animal más utilizado los que pertenecen a la clase Mammalia (n=370), especialmente en animales de producción (n=253). En cuanto al seguimiento de las tesis, solo el 20.4% del total de tesis se publicó como artículo científico, mayormente en la Revista de Investigaciones Veterinarias del Perú (86.6%) en 2014. Es importante que todos los trabajos de tesis de pre- y posgrado relacionadas a parásitos de fauna terrestre culminen en una publicación en una revista científica arbitrada e indexada.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to characterize the microplastics (MP) in the hairy crab Romaleon setosum (Molina, 1782) (Cancridae), a species of importance for human consumption. In total, 15 individuals of R. setosum acquired between December 2020 and January 2021 at the Ventanilla Fisheries Wholesale Market, Callao, Peru were evaluated. The muscle, gill and digestive tract of each crab was digested with 10% KOH, followed by a filtration process to search for MP. All individuals presented MP in muscle, gills and digestive tract. Blue MP fibres were most abundant in muscle, blue and red fibres in the gill, and black and blue in the digestive tract. In the case of film-type PM, white was the dominant colour in the muscle and digestive tract, while green was observed in the gills. For the fragments, the blue colour was the most abundant in the gill and in the digestive tract, not being observed in the muscle. The number of PM particles were present with the following sequence: digestive tract > gill > muscle and in relation to its shape it was fibre > fragment > film. The blue and black MPs were the dominant ones. The length of the cephalothorax was related to the number of total PM particles, to muscle and to the blue colour.

RESUMEN El objetivo de esta investigación fue caracterizar los microplásticos (MP) en el cangrejo peludo Romaleon setosum (Molina, 1782) (Cancridae), especie de importancia para el consumo humano. Se evaluaron 15 individuos de R. setosum adquiridos entre diciembre de 2020 y enero de 2021 en el Mercado Mayorista Pesquero de Ventanilla, Callao, Perú. El músculo, branquia y tracto digestivo de cada cangrejo fue sometido a digestión con KOH al 10%, seguido por un proceso de filtración para la búsqueda de los MP. Todos los individuos presentaron MP en músculo, branquias y tracto digestivo. Las fibras azules de MP fueron más abundantes en el músculo, las azules y rojas en la branquia, y el negro y azul en el tracto digestivo. En el caso del MP tipo film, el color blanco fue el dominante en el músculo y en el tracto digestivo, en tanto que el verde se observó en las branquias. Para los fragmentos, el color azul fue el más abundante en la branquia y en el tracto digestivo, no siendo observado en el músculo. El número de partículas de MP se presentó con la siguiente secuencia: tracto digestivo > branquia > músculo y con relación a su forma fue fibra > fragmento > film. Los MP de color azul y negro fueron los dominantes. La longitud del cefalotórax se observó relacionada con el número de partículas de MP totales, con el músculo y con el color azul.

Resumen Introducción: el bioensayo con la especie bioindicadora Daphnia magna Strauss, 1820 posibilita obtener el efecto ecotoxicológico agudo individual y en mezcla de diversos tóxicos químicos mediante la concentración letal media (CL50). Objetivo: determinar el efecto ecotoxicológico de la mezcla de aroclor 1254 y del plomo (Pb2+) sobre D. magna. Materiales y Métodos: se midió la CL50 siendo aroclor 1254 > Pb2+, y ulteriormente la concentración sin efecto ecológico (PNEC) para el efecto individual y en mezcla. Se contrastaron los valores de PNEC con la categoría 4 - E1 (lagunas y lagos) y E2 (ríos) del Estándar de Calidad Ambiental Peruano (Decreto Supremo N° 004 2017-MINAM -Perú). Resultados: los valores de CL50 disminuyeron de forma gradual a 48 h de exposición para ambos compuestos en forma individual y en mezcla. Se calculó la proporción - sinergia (PS) en relaciones de 1:1, 3:2 y 4:1 (aroclor 1254: Pb2+), obteniéndose mayores valores de PS en 3:2 y 4:1 en contrastación a 1:1. Conclusiones: la concentración de aroclor 1254 estimada de PNEC es similar al valor de la conservación del ambiente acuático categoría 4 - E1 y E2, y la concentración máxima para Pb2+ no es adecuada y debe reducirse para fortalecer la conservación de la biota acuática. Finalmente, el bioindicador D. magna determinó idóneamente la mezcla de aroclor 1254 y Pb2+.

Abstract Introduction: the bioassay with the bioindicator species Daphnia magna Strauss, 1820 makes it possible to obtain the individual acute ecotoxicological effect and in a mixture of various chemical toxics by means of the mean lethal concentration (LC50). Objective: to determine the ecotoxicological effect of the mixture of aroclor 1254 and lead (Pb2+) on D. magna. Materials and Methods: LC50 was measured with arochlor 1254> Pb2+, and subsequently the concentration without ecological effect (PNEC) for the individual effect and as a mixture. PNEC values were contrasted with category 4-E1 (lagoons and lakes) and E2 (rivers) of the Peruvian Environmental Quality Standard (Supreme Decree No. 004 2017-MINAM-Peru). Results: LC50 values gradually decreased after 48 h of exposure for both compounds individually and as a mixture. The proportion-synergy (PS) was calculated in ratios of 1:1, 3:2 and 4:1 (arochlor 1254: Pb2+), obtaining higher PS values in 3:2 and 4:1 in contrast to 1:1. Conclusions: the PNEC estimated arochlor 1254 concentration is similar to the conservation value of the aquatic environment category 4-E1 and E2, and the maximum concentration for Pb2+ is not adequate and should be reduced to strengthen the conservation of aquatic biota. Finally, the bioindicator D. magna ideally determined the mixture of aroclor 1254 and Pb2+.

Resumo Introdução: o bioensaio com as espécies bioindicadoras Daphnia magna Strauss, 1820 permite obter o efeito ecotoxicológico agudo individual e numa mistura de várias toxinas químicas por meio da concentração letal média (CL50). Objetivo: determinar o efeito ecotoxicológico da mistura de arocloro 1254 e chumbo (Pb2+) sobre D. magna. Materiais e Métodos: a CL50 foi medida com arocloro 1254>Pb2+, e posteriormente a concentração sem efeito ecológico (PNEC) para o efeito individual e como mistura. Os valores do PNEC foram contrastados com a categoria 4-E1 (lagoas e lagos) e E2 (rios) do Padrão de Qualidade Ambiental Peruano (Decreto Supremo n° 004 2017-MINAM-Peru). Resultados: Os valores de LC50 diminuíram gradualmente após 48 h de exposição para ambos os compostos individualmente e como uma mistura. A proporção-sinergia (PS) foi calculada em proporções de 1:1, 3:2 e 4:1 (arocloro 1254: Pb2+), obtendo-se valores de PS mais altos em 3:2 e 4:1 em contraste com 1:1. Conclusões: a concentração estimada de arocloro 1254 do PNEC é semelhante ao valor de conservação do ambiente aquático categoria 4-E1 e E2, e a concentração máxima de Pb2+ não é adequada e deve ser reduzida para fortalecer a conservação da biota aquática. Finalmente, o bioindicador D. magna determinou idealmente a mistura de arocloro 1254 e Pb2+.

Resumen Los derrames de petróleo ocasionan contaminación en los sistemas acuáticos y generan un problema ambiental grave. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el riesgo ambiental de los derrames de petróleo crudo mediante bioensayos de toxicidad letal y subletal en Lemna minor, Daphnia magna y Danio rerio. Se determinó la toxicidad de los hidrocarburos totales de petróleo (totalpetroleum hydrocarbon, TPH) en la fracción acumulada de petróleo mediante bioensayos con un diseño de bloques completos al azar (DBCA) de 6 x 4, con cinco concentraciones, un control y cuatro repeticiones. Las variables analizadas fueron el peso seco y la clorosis (L. minor); la mortalidad y la inmovilidad (D. magna), y la hipoactividad, el escape hacia el fondo y la hipoventilación (D. rerio). Los resultados obtenidos se evaluaron mediante diferencias estadísticas (p<0,05) entre las concentraciones y el control. Se determinaron los valores de la concentración en que no se observa efecto por exposición del contaminante (no observed effect concentration, NOEC) de <0,4 y 3,22 mg/L en las variables de clorosis y peso seco para L. minor. En el caso de D. magna, se obtuvo una concentración efectiva media para la inmovilidad (CE50-48h) de 2,74 mg/L y una concentración letal media (CL50-48h) de 6,22 mg/L. En el ensayo con el pez D. rerio, la variable de hipoactividad dio una NOEC y una concentración más baja en la que se observa efecto por exposición del contaminante (LOEC) de 14,28 y 28,61 mg/L a las 96 h de exposición, respectivamente. Los peces mostraron respuesta de escape hacia el fondo a 3,58 mg/L. En cuanto a la hipoventilación, los valores obtenidos de NOEC y LOEC fueron 7,15 y 14,31 mg/L (96 h). Se determinó el siguiente orden de toxicidad decreciente: L. minor (<0,40 mg/L - clorosis 168 h) > D. magna (1,61 mg/L - inmovilidad 48 h) > D. rerio (<3,58 mg/L - escape hacia el fondo 96 h). Todas las variables analizadas presentaron un cociente de riesgo mayor a 1, lo que dejó en evidenció el riesgo acuático ambiental.

Abstract Oils spills cause aquatic pollution generating serious environmental problems. In the present study, we assessed the aquatic environmental risk of crude oil by determining lethal and sublethal effects in Lemna minor, Daphnia magna, and Danio rerio. We determined the toxicity of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) establishing the water-accumulated fractions of petroleum. Bioassays were evaluated using a 6 x 4 randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five concentrations plus control and four repetitions. We evaluated the dry weight and chlorosis in L. minor, the mortality and immobility in D. magna, and the hypoactivity, bottom scape, and hypoventilation in D. rerio. In the results, we considered the differences (p<0.05) between concentrations and the control. The concentration at which no effect from exposure to the contaminant was observed (NOEC) was <0.4 and 3.22 mg/L for chlorosis and dry weight in L. minor. In the case of water fleas, we obtained a median effective concentration for immobility (EC50-48h) of 2.74 mg/L and a median lethal concentration for mortality (LC50 48h) of 6.22 mg/L. For fish bioassays, the NOEC and the lowest concentration at which an effect was observed (LOEC) of the hypoactivity parameter were 14.28 and 28.61 mg/L, respectively. The bottom scape effect occurred in 100% of the fish at 3.58 mg/L. As for hypoventilation, the NOEC and LOEC were 7.15 and 14.31 mg/L measured at 96 h. The decreasing ecotoxicity order was as follows: L. minor (<0.40 mg/L - chlorosis at 168 h) > D. magna (1.61 mg/L - immobility at 48 h) > D. rerio (<3.58 mg/L - bottom scape at 96 h). The risk quotient was higher than 1, which evidenced the environmental aquatic risk.

Abstract Fipronil and imidacloprid currently represent approximately one third of the global insecticide market. In the present study, the environmental risk (ERA) of fipronil and imidacloprid in the postlarvae of the river shrimp (Cryphiops caementarius, Molina 1782) was evaluated. Short-term toxicity bioassays were performed based on LC50 (mean lethal concentration) (mortality) and EC50 (mean effective concentration) (swimming hypoactivity). PNEC (Predicted Concentration with No Known Effect) and available environmental standards for PEC (Expected Environmental Concentration) were calculated for fipronil and imidacloprid to determine risk quotient (RQ). Imidacloprid was more at risk for the aquatic environment than fipronil for the lethal response (mortality) and sublethal response (swimming hypoactivity). The observed risk difference between the two insecticides could be due to their different modes of action. C. caementarius should be considered as a sensitive species when defining an environmental quality standard for the conservation of the aquatic environment. Therefore, it is recommended to continue monitoring the presence of these insecticides in coastal freshwater bodies, and to reduce the use of fipronil and imidacloprid in the agricultural crops that use them.

Resumen En la actualidad, el fipronil y el imidacloprid representan aproximadamente un tercio del mercado mundial de insecticidas. En el presente estudio se evaluó el riesgo ambiental (ERA) del fipronil e imidacloprid en las postlarvas del camarón de río (Cryphiops caementarius, Molina 1782). Se realizaron bioensayos de toxicidad de corta duración en base a la CL50 (Concentración letal media) (mortalidad) y CE50 (Concentración efectiva media) (hipoactividad natatoria). Se calculó la PNEC (Concentración prevista sin efecto conocido) y los estándares ambientales disponibles para la PEC (Concentración ambiental esperada) para el fipronil y el imidacloprid para determinar los cocientes de riesgo (CR). El imidacloprid resultó con mayor riesgo para el ambiente acuático que el fipronil para la respuesta letal (mortalidad) y subletal (hipoactividad natatoria). La diferencia del riesgo observada entre ambos insecticidas pudiera deberse a sus diferentes modos de acción. C. caementarius debería ser considerado como una especie sensible al momento de definir un estándar de calidad ambiental para la conservación del ambiente acuático. Por ende, es recomendable continuar el monitoreo para observar la presencia de estos insecticidas en los ecosistemas dulceacuícolas costeros, y reducir el uso del fipronil y del imidacloprid en los cultivos agrícolas que los emplean.
