ABSTRACT To better understand the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) administered at the early stages of embryonic development in poultry, it is necessary to analyze the molecular background. The molecular interpretation of poultry muscle after in-ovo administration of CLA remains to be reported. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the molecular background of muscle development based on gene expression parameters. On embryonic day (E) 11, the eggs were randomly divided into two groups (20 eggs per replicate). The CLA group was injected with 4.5 mg CLA in 100 mL of ethanol. The control group was injected with 100 mL of ethanol. At hatch, breast muscle samples were collected from four individuals per group for RNA-Seq. The result showed that 278 genes were differentially expressed (p<0.01, fold change >2) between the control group and the CLA group. 112 genes were upregulated in the CLA group, while 166 genes were upregulated in the control group. Function annotation showed that muscle activity (Ventricular cardiac muscle tissue morphogenesis, Adrenergic signaling in cardiomyocytes, Cardiac muscle contraction) and metabolism (Aromatic amino acid family metabolic process, Tyrosine metabolism, Retinol metabolism, Nitrogen metabolism, Cysteine, and methionine metabolism) were significantly enriched, including 11 genes(such as TNNI1, TNNC1, and MYL3) that were considerably upregulated in CLA group likely related to CLA processing by influencing the muscle activity processes and metabolic processes. It was concluded that in ovo, CLA supplementation could change the gene expression pattern of the breast muscle, and might affect muscle development.

ABSTRACT Objective: To study the influence of different dialysis frequency on microinflammation for the maintenance haemodialysis patients. Methods: Fifty-three maintenance haemodialysis patients with chronic kidney disease were divided into three groups. Groups A, B and C dialysed three times per week, twice per week and three times per 2 weeks, respectively. Total time was 1 year. The index of microinflammation state was measured in all patients before and after 1 year. Results: There were significant differences in the index of microinflammation state between any two groups. Conclusion: Patients who dialysed less than two times each week had a higher rate of microinflammation state. This showed that dialysis frequency was important for maintenance hae- modialysis.

In this study, the effect of a pre-fermentative freezing treatment on quality attributes of 'Meili' rosé wine was assessed. Prior to fermentation, 'Meili' grapes (berries and must) were subjected to a freezing treatment considering factors of freezing temperatures, freezing time, and thawing method. Colour-related indices were measured by spectral methods. Wine aroma characteristics and sensory attributes were assessed by trained panellists. The results revealed that lower freezing temperature and longer freezing time had positive effects on wine quality attributes. The treatment of frozen berries might help extract colour-related compounds. Microwave thawing improved wine colour, but decreased taste quality. In the work, the MF-10°C/6 h treatment (microwave-thawed berries that had been frozen at -10°C for 6 h) contributed to the best colour characteristics, whereas the NP-20°C/4 h treatment (naturally-thawed must that had been frozen at -20°C for 4 h) contributed to the best taste attributes.

Anemia is a frequent complication in hemodialysis patients. Compared to conventional hemodialysis (CHD), short daily hemodialysis (sDHD) has been reported to be effective in many countries except China. The aim of the present study was to determine whether sDHD could improve anemia and quality of life (QOL) for Chinese outpatients with end-stage renal disease. Twenty-seven patients (16 males/11 females) were converted from CHD to sDHD. All laboratory values were measured before conversion (baseline), at 3 months after conversion (sDHD1), and at 6 months after conversion (sDHD2). The patient's QOL was evaluated at baseline and 6 months after conversion using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Hemoglobin concentration increased significantly from 107.4±7.9 g/L at baseline to 114.4±6.8 g/L (P<0.05) at sDHD1, and 118.3±8.4 g/L (P<0.001) at sDHD2 (Student paired t-test). However, the dose requirement for erythropoietin decreased from 6847.8±1057.3 U/week at baseline to 5869.6±1094.6 U/week (P<0.05) at sDHD2. Weekly stdKt/V increased significantly from 2.05±0.13 at baseline to 2.73±0.20 (P<0.001) at sDHD1, and 2.84±0.26 (P<0.001) at sDHD2. C-reactive protein decreased from baseline to sDHD1 and sDHD2, but without statistically significant differences. Physical and mental health survey scores increased in the 6 months following conversion to sDHD. sDHD may increase hemoglobin levels, decrease exogenous erythropoietin dose requirements, and improve QOL in Chinese hemodialysis patients compared to CHD. A possible mechanism for improvement of clinical outcomes may be optimized management of uremia associated with the higher efficiency of sDHD.
