Os autores estudaram o efeito protoescolecida, in vitro e in vivo, de solução salina de cloreto de sódio à concentração de 5,10 e 20%, pela imersão por 24 horas, de fígado e pulmões de ovinos parasitados por cisto hidático. Pelo estudo in vitro os protoescóleces permaneceram viáveis num total de 66,68%, 43,10% e 43,30% quando tratados nas concentrações de 5, 10 e 20%, respectivamente. Pela alimentação de 6 (seis) cães com vísceras assim tratadas, foram encontrados, após a necropsia, 4 (quatro) cães parasitados por Echinococcus. Não houve intolerância nem lesões anátomo-patológicas devido a administração diária de cloreto de sódio nestas concentrações. O tratamento de vísceras por imersão em cloreto de sódio nas concentrações e no tempo descritos não serve como método profilático da equinococose, com vistas a sua utilização na alimentação de cães.

The authors examined the protoescolicide effect of natrium chiorid salty solution, in vitro and in vivo using ovine livers and lungs. The infected organs were immersed in saltysolutions of 5,10 and 20% concentration during 24 hours. By the in vitro experiment, the protoescolices were kept viable in a total 66.68%, 43.10% and 43.30% when treated in a solution of 5.10 and 20%, respectively. The víscera infected with hydatic cyst were offered to 6 dogs. During necropsy 4 of the dogs were found infected whit Echinococcus. Rejection and pathologic lesions could not he related to the daily intake of these vísceras by the dogs. The treatment of vísceras by immersion in natrium chiorid salty solution under the described time and concentration conditions can not be used as a preventive method for equinococosis.

Foram coletadas aleatoriamente, 10 amostras de carne moída bovina em açougues da cidade de Santa Maria, RS, para determinar a presença de microorganismos totais, coliformes e Staphylococcus aureus. Respectivamente, usou-se os meios ágar para contagem total (PCA), ágar cristal violeta vermelho neutro bile e ágar bairdparker. Na contagem de microorganismos totais, 60% das amostras apresentaram entre 1,7 a 8,8 x 10(4) uFC/g de carne moída. Para Coliformes, 20% das amostras apresentaram um número menor que 1,0 x 10² uFc/g, 40% entre 1,0 a 3,2 x 10³ uFC/g, 30% entre 3,7 a 9,6 x 10(4) uFC/g e em 10% houve acidente laboratorial. Para Staphylococcus aureus, 100% das amostras resultaram positivas, sendo 50% entre 1,0 a 4,0 x 10³ uFC/g, 40% entre 1,3 a 2,8 x 10(4) e 10% entre 1,5 a 4,0 x 10(5) uFC/g de carne moída.

Ten samples of minced meat beef were collected in butcher shops of Santa Maria City, RS, Brazil, to determine the presence of total microorganism, total coliforms and Staphylococcus aureus. Respectively, PCA (Plate Counter Ágar), violet cristal red neutral bile and baird parker ágar was used. In the ágar plate counter for total microorganism. 60% of the samples presented a number between 1.7 a 8.8 x 10(4) CFU/g of minced meat. For Coliforms, 20% of the samples presented a number less than 1.0 x 10² C FU/g, 40% were among 1.0 and 3.2 x 10³ CFU/g, 30% between 3.7 to 9.6 x 10(4) CFU/g and in 10% had laboratory acidental. For Staphylococcus aureus, 100% of the samples turns positives with 50% of that between 1.0 a 4.0 x 10³ CFU/g, 40% among 1.3 to 2.8 x 10(4) CFU/g and 10% among 1.5 to 4.0 x 10(5) CFU/g of minced meat beef.

Soro de 200 suínos abatidos em frigorífico, oriundos de rebanhos intensivos, híbridos, em idade de terminação, da região noroeste do RS, Brasil, foram coletados e testados para imunoglobulinas antitoxoplásmicas através da Hemaglutinação Indireta (HAI). Ao mesmo tempo, fez-se a relação entre soro positivos e a formação de lesões de retinocoroidite através de cortes histológicos em globos oculares, usando a coloração de Hematoxilina-Eosina (HE). A prevalência da infecção toxoplásmica, considerando títulos positivos a partir de 1:64, foi de 18%. Os títulos ficaram entre 1:64 (39%); 1:128 (5,5%); 1:256 (39%); 1:512 (5,5%) e 1:1024 (11 %). Alterações histopatológicas encontradas em 3 amostras positivas foram: atrofia da retina (1:64 e 1:256) e hiperemia da mácula (1:256). Pelos resultados obtidos, não foi possível estabelecer uma relação entre retinocoroidite e sorologia positiva nestes animais estudados.

Sera samples derived from 200 finishing pigs from confinement herds, hibrids were used. The sera were collected in abattoirs of me North-west region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Tested for antitoxoplasmics immunoglobulins using the Indirect Hemagglutination test (IHA). A relation of the positive sera samples and formation of retinochoroiditis in histological studies with Hematoxilin-Eosin (HE) staining was stablished. The prevalence rate of seropositivity toxoplasmic infection was 18%, starting from titers 1:64. The titer varied from 1:64 (39%); 1:128 (5.5%); 1:256 (39%); 1:512 (5.5%); 1:1024 (11%). Histophathogical alterations findings in 3 positive sera samples were: retinal atrophy (1:64; 1:256) and macular hiperemy (1:256). Retinochoroiditis lesions were not found in the present study.
