Com objetivo de avaliar os efeitos do silício na suscetibilidade de Spodoptera frugiperda ao inseticida lufenuron e no desenvolvimento de plantas de milho, foram realizados dois experimentos, sendo um em laboratório e outro em campo. Os tratamentos consistiram de aplicações de ácido silícico associado ou não a diferentes doses do inseticida lufenuron. No experimento conduzido no laboratório, utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 5 (com e sem silício x doses de lufenuron), com cinco repetições. Já o experimento em campo foi em blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos, em esquema fatorial 2 x 3 (com e sem silício x doses de lufenuron) e quatro repetições. Avaliou-se, em laboratório, a mortalidade da lagarta-do-cartucho, tanto às 24h e 48h antes da aplicação do inseticida, quanto depois da aplicação. Danos ocasionados pela lagarta e as características agronômicas das plantas de milho foram avaliados no experimento de campo. Os resultados demonstraram que o silício interagiu positivamente com o inseticida lufenuron no controle de S. frugiperda, em plantas de milho, possibilitando uma redução da dose do inseticida e o fortalecimento da estrutura da planta por aumentar o diâmetro do caule.

With the objective of evaluating the effects of silicon in the efficiency of the insecticide lufenuron on the control of Spodoptera frugiperda and on the development of corn plants, two experiments were conducted, one being in laboratory and the other in the field. The treatments consisted of applications of silicic acid associated or not with different rates of the insecticide lufenuron. In the laboratory-conducted experiment, the completely randomized design in 2 x 3 factorial scheme (with or without silicon x rates of lufenuron) with five replicates was utilized, but the field experiment was in randomized blocks with six treatments in 2 x 3 factorial scheme (with and without silicon x dosages of lufenuron) and five replicates. In laboratory, the mortality of fall armyworm, both at 24 and 48h before the application of the insecticide and after application, was evaluated. The damages caused by the larvae and the agronomic characteristics of corn plants were also evaluate in the field. The results showed that silicon interacted positively with the insecticide lufenuron in the control of S. frugiperda, enabling a reduction of the insecticide dosage and it strengthened the plant structure for increasing the stem diameter.

O cultivo orgânico de batata inglesa apresenta viabilidade econômica, porém enfrenta problemas em relação à manutenção da sanidade. Este trabalho foi realizado para verificar o efeito da adubação com silício na incidência de insetos-praga e na produtividade da cultura da batata inglesa em sistema orgânico. Foram testados 5 tratamentos com 4 repetições: 1- testemunha; 2- adubação via solo com ácido silícico, na dose correspondente a 0,35t.ha-1; 3- adubação via foliar com solução de ácido silícico a 0,35%; 4- adubação via solo com pó de rocha, na dose correspondente a 2t.ha-1; 5-adubação via foliar com solução de pó de rocha a 2%. Os tratamentos foram aplicados 20 dias após o plantio da batata-semente. Foi monitorada a incidência de insetos-praga por meio da determinação do número pulgões, de lesões foliares provocadas por Diabrotica speciosa (Germar) e de folíolos minados por Liriomyza spp.. Determinaram, ainda, a altura e o diâmetro das plantas e a produtividade. Verificou-se que as plantas adubadas com silício, independentemente da forma de aplicação e da fonte utilizada, apresentaram menor número de injúrias foliares em relação àquelas da testemunha. Contudo, não foi constatado o efeito da adubação com silício no desenvolvimento e produtividade da cultura.

The organic cultivation of potato presents economical viability, however it faces problems in relation to the maintenance of sanity. This work was carried out to verify the effect of the silicon fertilization on the incidence of pest insects and in the productivity of potato in an organic system. Five treatments were tested, with four replications: 1- control; 2- fertilization applied via soil with silicic acid, in the dose corresponding to 0.35t.ha-1 3- fertilization applied via leaf with solution of silicic acid at 0.35%; 4- fertilization applied via soil with rock powder, in the dose corresponding to 2t.ha-1; 5- fertilization applied via leaf with rock powder solution at 2%. The treatments were applied 20 days after the plantation of the seed potato. The incidence of pest insects was monitored by means of the determination of the number of foliar lesions caused by Diabrotica speciosa (Germar) and the number of leaves mined by Liriomyza spp. The diameter and the height of the plants and the productivity were determined. Independently of the form of application and the source used, it was verified that the plants fertilized with silicon presented lower number of leaf injuries in relation to the control ones. However, it was not possible to verify the effect of the fertilization with silicon on the development and productivity of the culture.

O pulgão Myzus persicae (Sulzer) é considerado praga-chave da cultura da batata inglesa, cuja produtividade depende do uso de inseticidas para o seu controle. Este trabalho foi conduzido para verificar o efeito do silício e do imidaclopride na colonização de plantas por M. persicae e seus possíveis reflexos positivos no desenvolvimento da batata inglesa. Foram testados cinco tratamentos, com sete repetições: 1- testemunha; 2- ácido silícico a 1%; 3- imidacloprid na dosagem recomendada (252g ha-1); 4- ácido silícico a 1% e imidacloprid na metade da dosagem recomendada (126g ha-1); e 5- imidaclopride na metade da dosagem recomendada (126g ha-1). Após 20 dias do plantio, as plantas (cv. Emeraude) foram infestadas com dez pulgões adultos. Avaliaram-se, após 20 dias da infestação, o número de ninfas e de adultos de pulgões, a altura, o diâmetro, o número de folhas e a fitomassa fresca e seca das plantas. As plantas tratadas com o inseticida foram pouco colonizadas pelos pulgões e aquelas tratadas com silício apresentaram menor infestação em relação à testemunha. Em relação à altura, ao diâmetro e à fitomassa, não houve diferença significativa entre os tratamentos, porém a testemunha apresentou menor número de folhas. Assim, o silício diminuiu a colonização da batata por M. persicae e o uso da metade da dosagem recomendada de imidacloprid (126g ha-1) foi igualmente eficiente para impedir a colonização, tornando a adubação silicatada mais uma tática a ser testada no manejo integrado de pragas da batateira.

The aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer) is a key pest of potato crops, the yield of which depends on insecticides for its control. This research was carried out to verify the effect of silicon and imidacloprid on the colonization of potato plants by M. persicae and its possible positive consequences on development parameters. Five treatments with seven replications were tested: 1- control treatment; 2- 1% silicic acid; 3- imidacloprid at the recommended dosage (252g ha-1); 4- 1% silicic acid and imidacloprid at half recommended dosage (126g ha-1) and 5- imidacloprid at half the recommended dosage (126g ha-1). Twenty days after planting, the plants were infested with ten adult aphids. After 20 days of infestation, the number of nymphs and of adult aphids; the height, the diameter, the number of leaves and the fresh and dried weights of the plants were evaluated. The plants treated with insecticides were not so colonized by the aphids and those with silicon presented lower infestation in relation to the control. In relation to the height, diameter and weights, there was no significant difference among the treatments, however the control presented the lowest number of leaves. Therefore, silicon reduced the colonization of potato by M. persicae and the use of half dosage of imidacloprid (126g ha-1) was equally efficient to prevent the colonization, making silicated fertilization one more strategy to be tested in the integrated management of potato plant pests.

Dentre os fatores limitantes da produção tritícola brasileira está o ataque de insetos-praga, podendo-se destacar o pulgão-das-gramíneas Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). O controle químico é predominante no manejo desse pulgão, tornando a produção dependente do uso de inseticidas. Este trabalho avalia o efeito do silício e da infestação prévia com pulgões na indução de resistência ao pulgão-das-gramíneas em plantas de trigo. Os tratamentos foram: testemunha; adubação com silicato de cálcio; infestação das plantas com pulgões; adubação com silicato de cálcio + infestação das plantas com pulgões. Trinta e cinco dias após emergência das plântulas foi realizado teste de preferência com chance de escolha; determinação da taxa de crescimento da população do pulgão (r m) e quantificação da atividade de três enzimas envolvidas na defesa das plantas: peroxidase, polifenoloxidase e fenilalanina amônia-liase. A adubação silicatada e a infestação prévia com pulgões induzem resistência em plantas de trigo ao pulgão-das-gramíneas.

The pest greenbug Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) stands out among the factors limiting Brazilian wheat production. Chemical control is predominant in aphid management making the production dependent on insecticides. The effect of silicon and previous infestation with aphids on the induction of resistance to the greenbug was evaluated in wheat plants. Treatments consisted of control; fertilization with calcium silicate; plant infestation with aphids; fertilization with calcium silicate + plant infestation with aphids. A free-choice preference test was performed 35 days after seedling emergence; the aphid's intrinsic rate of population increase (r m) was also determined, and the activities of three enzymes (peroxidase, polyphenoloxidase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase) involved in plant defense were quantified. Silicon fertilization and the previous infestation with aphids induced wheat plant resistance to the greenbug.

Verificou-se o efeito da densidade populacional do pulgão-verde Schizaphis graminum (RONDANI, 1852) em plantas de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.) na atividade das enzimas peroxidase e polifenoloxidase. Utilizaram-se os seguintes tratamentos: 10 pulgões/planta; 30 pulgões/planta; 50 pulgões/planta e a testemunha (sem pulgões). A peroxidase apresentou atividade mais intensa em relação à polifenoloxidase. A maior atividade da peroxidase ocorreu quando se utilizaram 30 e 50 pulgões/planta. Já para a polifenoloxidase, não houve diferença na sua atividade entre as três densidades utilizadas.

It was investigated the effect of the population density of the greenbug Schizaphis graminum (RONDANI, 1852) on wheat plants (Triticum aestivum L.) on the activity of the enzymes peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase. The following treatments were used: 10, 30, 50 aphids/plant and the control (without aphids). The peroxidase showed higher activity than the polyphenoloxidase. The highest peroxidase's activity occurred when 30 and 50 aphids per plant were used. On the other hand, for polyphenoloxidase, there wasn't difference in the activity among the three densities used.
