Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the perception of the oral health team regarding work safety and aspects related to changes in dental practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. A descriptive, exploratory, quantitative, and qualitative cross-sectional study was conducted using an electronic questionnaire sent via email to health professionals (n = 197) affiliated with the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS), from December 2020 to September 2021, in a municipality located in the northeast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The variables of interest were sociodemographic characteristics and those related to the professionals’ perception of oral health care during the pandemic and its impact on these workers’ occupational safety. Descriptive statistics were performed, and the absolute and relative frequencies of quantitative variables were calculated, whereas lexical analysis was performed for textual content using the descending hierarchical classification (CHD). Out of the total sample, elective and urgent/emergency care was provided by 58.95% (n = 56); physical barriers were absent between the teams in 54.74% (n = 52); minimally invasive techniques were applied in 71.58% (n = 68); personal protective equipment (PPE) was replaced in 81.05% (n = 77) between appointments; and occupational safety was reported by 49.47% (n = 47). Textual analysis showed a decrease in appointments and consultations, with a longer interval between appointments. The professionals noticed changes in dental practices during the pandemic, mainly regarding the use of PPE, the type of treatment performed, the number of treated patients, and the greater time interval between consultations. The physical infrastructure of health units and the availability of PPE to patients needed some adjustments. A significant number of workers felt safe in providing dental care during the pandemic. RESUMO Objetivo: identificar a frequência de ocorrência do absenteísmo-doença, de acordo com o perfil dos profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS), e verificar se houve impacto da pandemia na duração e motivos dos afastamentos. Métodos: estudo transversal, no período de janeiro/2019 a dezembro/2020, com os profissionais de APS de um município do nordeste do estado de São Paulo. Realizou-se estatística descritiva, com cálculo de frequências. Resultados: dos 977 profissionais da APS, 633 (64,79%) utilizaram o atestado médico para justificar sua ausência no trabalho em 2019, e 837 (85,67%), em 2020. O principal motivo dos afastamentos foi as doenças osteomusculares e do tecido conjuntivo nos dois anos. A duração média dos afastamentos foi de 7,33 dias (DP=17,33) em 2019 e de 9,88 dias (DP=16,05) em 2020. Os auxiliares de enfermagem foram os que mais se afastaram em ambos os anos. Conclusões: houve impacto da pandemia na duração e motivos dos afastamentos.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the frequency of occurrence of sickness absenteeism, according to the profile of Primary Health Care (PHC) professionals, and verify if there was an impact of the pandemic on absence duration and reason. Methods: a cross-sectional study, from January/2019 to December/2020, with PHC professionals from a municipality in northeastern São Paulo. Descriptive statistics were performed, with frequency calculation. Results: of the 977 PHC professionals, 633 (64.79%) used a medical certificate to justify their absence from work in 2019, and 837 (85.67%) in 2020. The main reason for leave was diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue in the two years. The mean duration of leave was 7.33 days (SD=17.33) in 2019 and 9.88 days (SD=16.05) in 2020. Nursing assistants were the ones who took the most leave in both years. Conclusions: there was an impact of the pandemic on absence duration and reason.

RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar la frecuencia de ocurrencia del ausentismo-enfermedad, según el perfil de los profesionales de la Atención Primaria de Salud (APS), y verificar si hubo impacto de la pandemia en la duración y motivos de las ausencias. Métodos: estudio transversal, de enero/2019 a diciembre/2020, con profesionales de la APS de un municipio del nordeste del estado de São Paulo. Se realizó estadística descriptiva, con cálculo de frecuencia. Resultados: de los 977 profesionales de APS, 633 (64,79%) utilizaron el certificado médico para justificar su ausencia al trabajo en 2019 y 837 (85,67%) en 2020. El principal motivo de baja fue por enfermedades musculoesqueléticas y del tejido conectivo en los dos años. La duración media de la licencia fue de 7,33 días (DE=17,33) en 2019 y de 9,88 días (DE=16,05) en 2020. Los auxiliares de enfermería fueron los que más disfrutaron de licencia en ambos años. Conclusiones: hubo un impacto de la pandemia en la duración y motivos de las ausencias.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência e gravidade da má oclusão e seu impacto na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal (QVRSB) e a satisfação autorreferida de pacientes com anorexia e bulimia nervosa. Métodos: A amostra foi composta por 60 mulheres que compareceram a uma clínica especializada em saúde mental de uma faculdade brasileira de Medicina. Os participantes foram distribuídos em dois grupos: pacientes com anorexia e bulimia nervosa (ABN; n=30) e pacientes sem distúrbios alimentares (CN; n=30). A oclusão dentária foi avaliada pelo Índice de Estética Dental; a QVRSB foi avaliada usando o questionário OHIP-14; e a satisfação autorreferida com a aparência dos dentes, capacidade de fala e mastigação foi avaliada por meio de entrevistas. Resultados: Má oclusão grave e muito grave foi observada em 26,67% e 46,67% dos pacientes no grupo ABN, respectivamente, enquanto o grupo CN apresentou 80,00% dos pacientes sem anormalidade/má oclusão leve. O grupo ABN apresentou maior proporção de pacientes (p<0,05) com perda dentária, espaçamento na região dos incisivos, desalinhamento maxilar e desalinhamento mandibular, em relação ao grupo CN. O grupo ABN apresentou menor (p<0,05) QVRSB e satisfação autorreferida com a aparência dos dentes, capacidade de fala e mastigação, em comparação ao grupo CN. Houve uma correlação positiva (p<0,05) entre o Índice de Estética Dental e o escore do OHIP-14 no grupo ABN. Conclusões: A prevalência de má oclusão grave no grupo ABN foi alta, com impacto negativo na QVRSB e satisfação autorreferida com a aparência dos dentes, capacidade de fala e mastigação.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and severity of malocclusion and its impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and self-reported satisfaction of patients with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Methods: The sample consisted of sixty women who attended a specialized mental health clinic of a Brazilian medical school. Participants were distributed into two groups: patients with anorexia and bulimia nervosa (ABN; n=30) and control patients without eating disorders (CN; n=30). The dental occlusion was evaluated by the Dental Aesthetic Index; the OHRQoL was assessed using the OHIP-14 questionnaire; and the self-reported satisfaction with the appearance of teeth, speech ability and chewing was obtained by interviews. Results: Severe and very severe malocclusion were observed in 26.67% and 46.67% of patients in the ABN group, respectively, while the CN group showed 80.00% of patients without abnormality/mild malocclusion. ABN group showed a higher proportion of patients (p < 0.05) with tooth loss, spacing in the region of incisors, maxillary misalignment, and mandibular misalignment in relation to CN group. ABN group presented lower (p< 0.05) OHRQoL and self-reported satisfaction with the appearance of teeth, speech ability and chewing, compared to the CN group. There was a significant positive correlation (p< 0.05) between the Dental Aesthetic Index and OHIP-14 scores in the ABN group. Conclusions: The prevalence of severe malocclusion in ABN group was high, with a negative impact on OHRQoL and self-reported satisfaction with the chewing ability, speech ability and appearance of teeth.

Resumo Este estudo visa conhecer a percepção dos imigrantes cubanos sobre o termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido e o acesso a tratamentos médicos e odontológicos. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo transversal, tipo inquérito. A amostra foi composta por imigrantes de um município de médio porte do estado de São Paulo. Os participantes responderam a um formulário com questões relacionadas ao conhecimento desse termo e ao acesso a tratamentos médicos e odontológicos no Brasil e no país de origem, instrumento que também coletou dados sociodemográficos. Os participantes tinham acesso à assistência médica e odontológica, mas pouco conhecimento sobre o termo de consentimento durante os tratamentos. Os médicos e odontólogos devem tomar medidas para uma prática profissional segura, pois um termo de consentimento bem elaborado e de conhecimento do paciente promove a realização bem-sucedida dos procedimentos.

Abstract This study aims to identify the perception of Cuban immigrants about the free and informed consent form and access to dental and medical care. This is a cross-sectional descriptive survey conducted with a sample of immigrants from a medium-sized municipality in the state of São Paulo. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire addressing the form and the access to dental and medical care both in Brazil and in their country of origin, as well as sociodemographic aspects. The results indicate that immigrants have access to medical and dental care, but little knowledge about the consent form during treatment. Considering that a well-designed consent term and patient knowledge promotes the successful performance of procedures, physicians and dentists need to adopt measures for a safe professional practice.

Resumen En este estudio se propone conocer la percepción de los inmigrantes cubanos sobre el formulario de consentimiento informado y el acceso a tratamientos médicos y odontológicos. Este es un estudio descriptivo transversal, tipo encuesta. La muestra se compuso de inmigrantes de un municipio de mediano porte del estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Los participantes respondieron a un formulario con preguntas relacionadas al conocimiento del formulario de consentimiento informado y la accesibilidad a tratamientos médicos y odontológicos en Brasil y en su país de origen, instrumento que también recogía información sociodemográfica sobre los encuestados. Los participantes tenían accesibilidad a la atención médica y odontológica, pero poco conocimiento sobre ese formulario durante los tratamientos. Los médicos y los odontólogos deben adoptar medidas para una práctica profesional segura, pues un formulario de consentimiento informado bien preparado y de conocimiento del paciente favorece la realización exitosa de los procedimientos.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate both knowledge and attitude of public elementary school teachers in Alfenas, Minas Gerais, Brazil, towards Traumatic Dental Injuries (TDIs). Material and Methods: Four hundred and seventy-one teachers from 10 schools were invited to participate in the research. Two hundred and twelve were accepted, being randomly selected to answer semi-structured questionnaires. Statistical tests Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact Test were also used for the other variables at a significance level of 5% (p<0.05). Results: 212 teachers answered; 34% had first-aid training in college or even voluntarily (22.6%), but only 7.1% had taken training about TDIs. Only 7.5% were satisfied with the knowledge about TDIs, and 12.3% felt prepared to face it. About 10.8% had seen any type of TDI; 53.3% would report to the headmaster and 8% to the school dentist in a TDI event. The teachers’ first attitude towards TDIs would be contacting the child’s parents (63.2% and 58.5%, respectively). About 47.2% would handle the tooth properly (by the crown). Nearly 90.1% would carry out a permanent tooth dental reimplant, which would be conducted immediately (71.2%). About 36.3% of the teachers storage the avulsed tooth in a liquid: milk (46.7%) and saline solution (24.7%). The dry media mentioned were paper (18.9%) and gauze or cotton (15.1%). Most of the teachers (96.2%) stated that they would like to receive information on TDI. Conclusion: Elementary school teachers in Alfenas have partial knowledge about traumatic dental injuries.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é realizar uma análise dos fatores que determinam a autopercepção de saúde bucal dos brasileiros sob base metodológica multidimensional. Estudo transversal, com dados provenientes de inquérito em âmbito nacional. Foi realizada entrevista domiciliar com uma amostra de 60.202 adultos. Considerou-se a autopercepção de saúde bucal como variável desfecho e características sociodemográficas, de autocuidado e condição de saúde bucal, de utilização de serviços odontológicos, de condição de saúde geral e de trabalho como variáveis independentes. Empregou-se o teste de redução de dimensionalidade e as variáveis que apresentaram relação passaram pelo teste de regressão logística. A autopercepção negativa de saúde bucal apresentou-se relacionada à dificuldade para se alimentar, avaliação negativa do atendimento recebido durante a última consulta odontológica, autopercepção ruim da condição de saúde geral, não utilização de fio dental, perda dental superior e motivo da última consulta com o cirurgião dentista. A utilização de base metodológica multidimensional foi capaz de (re)desenhar modelos explicativos para a condição percebida de saúde bucal de adultos brasileiros, devendo, os seus resultados serem considerados na implementação, avaliação e qualificação da rede de saúde bucal.

Abstract This article aims to perform an analysis of the factors that determine the self-perception of oral health of Brazilians, based on a multidimensional methodology basis. This is a cross-sectional study with data from a national survey. A household interview was conducted with a sample of 60,202 adults. Self-perception of oral health was considered the outcome variable and sociodemographic characteristics, self-care and oral health condition, use of dental services, general health and work condition as independent variables. The dimensionality reduction test was used and the variables that showed a relationship were submitted to logistic regression. The negative oral health condition was related to difficulty feeding, negative evaluation of the last dental appointment, negative self-perception of general health condition, not flossing, upper dental loss, and reason for the last dental appointment. The use of a multidimensional methodological basis was able to design explanatory models for the self-perception of oral health of Brazilian adults, and these results should be considered in the implementation, evaluation, and qualification of the oral health network.

Resumo Este estudo buscou avaliar a relação entre fatores sociodemográficos e o impacto na Qualidade de Vida Relacionada à Saúde Bucal (QVRSB), em gestantes brasileiras usuárias do Sistema Único de Saúde. Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico observacional transversal, desenvolvido com gestantes residentes em duas regiões com características sociodemográficas distintas. Foram entrevistadas 1.777 puérperas. Um questionário estruturado e previamente testado coletou as variáveis sociodemográficas e o Oral Health Index Profile (OHIP-14) avaliou o impacto na QVRSB. A análise estatística foi realizada utilizando o teste Qui-quadrado e a regressão logística múltipla, ambos com significância de 5%. A dimensão “desconforto psicológico” foi a única com diferença entre as puérperas da RMGV e MRSM (p=0,042). Associou-se ao impacto na QVRSB as variáveis: residir na RMGV (OR=1,69; IC95%: 1,16-2,47); ter pouca escolaridade (OR=1,80; IC95%: 1,03-3,18) e realizar consulta odontológica durante a gestação (OR=2,15; IC95%: 1,50-3,07). Os fatores sociodemográficos devem ser considerados no planejamento das ações em saúde bucal das gestantes, pois influenciam no impacto na QVRSB.

The following variables were associated with the impact on the OHR-QoL: residing in the RMGV (OR=1.69; 95%CI: 1.16-2.47); having a low level of schooling (OR=1.80; 95%CI: 1.03-3.18) and visit to the dentist during pregnancy (OR=2.15, 95%CI: 1.50-3.07). Sociodemographic factors should be considered in the planning of oral health actions of pregnant women, as they influence the impact on the OHR-QoL.

Métodos: estudo transversal, baseado em entrevista com questionário e avaliação de imunidade pelo teste anti-HBs, realização prévia do teste, seu resultado e interpretação, e orientações recebidas sobre a doença. Resultados: dos 70 ASBs registrados, 35 completaram o esquema vacinal, 29 apresentaram resultado negativo ao teste anti-HBs, 16 realizaram previamente o teste e 43 não compreendiam corretamente seu resultado; houve associação (p=0,025) entre esquema vacinal completo e recebimento de orientações. Conclusão: a maioria dos ASBs recebeu orientações sobre a doença; entretanto, uma parcela considerável não completou o esquema vacinal e apresentou resultado negativo para o teste anti-HBs; poucos realizaram o teste anteriormente e interpretaram corretamente o resultado; evidencia-se cenário alarmante, com deficiência na imunização contra hepatite B entre ASBs.

Methods: this was a cross-sectional study based on interviews using a questionnaire as well as evaluation of immunity using the anti-HBs test, evaluation of prior testing, test result and interpretation and guidance provided about hepatitis B. Results: of the 70 registered DA, 35 completed the course of vaccinations, 29 had negative anti-HBs test results, 16 had tested previously, and 43 did not correctly understand their result; there was association (p=0.025) between completed course of vaccinations and receipt of guidance. Conclusion: most DA received guidance about hepatitis B; however, a considerable portion did not complete the course of vaccinations and had negative anti-HBs test results; few DA had tested previously nor correctly interpreted the result; evidence was found of an alarming scenario in which there are severe shortcomings in DA hepatitis B immunization.

Empregou-se o teste de redução de dimensionalidade e as variáveis que apresentaram relação passaram pelo teste de regressão logística. A autopercepção negativa de saúde bucal apresentou-se relacionada à dificuldade para se alimentar, avaliação negativa do atendimento recebido durante a última consulta odontológica, autopercepção ruim da condição de saúde geral, não utilização de fio dental, perda dental superior e motivo da última consulta com o cirurgião dentista. A utilização de base metodológica multidimensional foi capaz de (re)desenhar modelos explicativos para a condição percebida de saúde bucal de adultos brasileiros, devendo, os seus resultados serem considerados na implementação, avaliação e qualificação da rede de saúde bucal.

Abstract This article aims to perform an analysis of the factors that determine the self-perception of oral health of Brazilians, based on a multidimensional methodology basis. This is a cross-sectional study with data from a national survey. A household interview was conducted with a sample of 60,202 adults. Self-perception of oral health was considered the outcome variable and sociodemographic characteristics, self-care and oral health condition, use of dental services, general health and work condition as independent variables. The dimensionality reduction test was used and the variables that showed a relationship were submitted to logistic regression. The negative oral health condition was related to difficulty feeding, negative evaluation of the last dental appointment, negative self-perception of general health condition, not flossing, upper dental loss, and reason for the last dental appointment. The use of a multidimensional methodological basis was able to design explanatory models for the self-perception of oral health of Brazilian adults, and these results should be considered in the implementation, evaluation, and qualification of the oral health network.

Resumo Introdução A deficiência visual acomete aproximadamente 285 milhões de pessoas, em todo o mundo. A prestação de cuidados com a saúde bucal à pessoa com deficiência visual difere dos demais tendo em vista as suas limitações inerentes, as quais podem afetar o atendimento odontológico desses indivíduos. Objetivo Avaliar o acesso das pessoas com deficiência visual aos serviços de saúde bucal e a satisfação delas com o atendimento, além de verificar se há alguma relação com a condição econômica. Método Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa de caráter transversal, sendo a população de estudo formada por pessoas com deficiência visual de um instituto para cegos. Foi utilizado um questionário semiestruturado sobre o tema, cujas variáveis pesquisadas foram: acesso aos serviços de saúde bucal, satisfação e condição socioeconômica. Após a coleta, os dados foram tabulados pelo Epi Info 7.2. Resultados Do total de pesquisados (n=72), 65,28% são do sexo masculino, com idade média de 34,6 anos. Em relação ao acesso aos serviços de saúde bucal, 56,9% dos entrevistados relataram que a última visita ao dentista fazia menos de um ano e a maioria (84,3%) classificou o tratamento da última consulta como bom ou muito bom. O acesso aos serviços de saúde ocorreu tanto no sistema público quanto no privado, independentemente da classe econômica do pesquisado (p=0,174). Conclusão Apesar dos resultados positivos em relação ao acesso e ao atendimento odontológico às pessoas com deficiência visual, se fazem necessárias a criação e a ampliação de políticas de inclusão e de acessibilidade.

Abstract Background approximately 285 million people are visually impaired, oral health care to people with visual impairment differs due to the conditions’ limitations, which may affect the individuals’ dental care. Objective to evaluate the access and satisfaction of people with visual impairment to oral health services and their relationship with the economic condition. Method this is a cross-sectional quantitative study involving people with visual impairment of an Institute for the Blind. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to obtain data, where variables were: access to oral health services, satisfaction and socioeconomic status. After the data collection, the data were tabulated by Epi Info 7.2. Results of the total number of respondents (n = 72), 65.28% were males, with a mean age of 34.6 years. Regarding access to oral health services, 56.9% of the interviewees reported that the last visit to the dentist was less than one year, and the majority (84.3%) classified the treatment of the last consultation with good or very good. Access to oral health services occurred in both the public and private systems, regardless of the economic class of the respondent (p = 0.174). Conclusion in spite of the positive results, access and dental care for people with visual impairment requires the creation and expansion of inclusion and accessibility policies.

RESUMO Introdução: o tratamento ortodôntico visa à saúde bucal e ao reestabelecimento da função como objetivo final; no entanto, os efeitos psicológicos e sociais acabam sendo o principal motivo da procura pelo tratamento. Objetivo: determinar a associação entre a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal (QVRSB), a necessidade de tratamento ortodôntico e o bullying entre os adolescentes. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico transversal. Para avaliar a má oclusão, foi utilizado o Dental Aesthetic Index. O instrumento Oral Health Impact Profile-14 foi utilizado para analisar a QVRSB. O questionário Kidscape foi utilizado para verificar os casos de bullying. Também foram incluídas as variáveis: tratamento ortodôntico prévio e desejo de corrigir os dentes para melhorar a aparência. A análise multivariada foi realizada por meio de regressão logística, considerando-se a qualidade de vida ruim como variável resposta. Resultados: 815 adolescentes participaram da pesquisa. Houve associação, estatisticamente significativa, entre a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal e as variáveis: tratamento ortodôntico prévio (p= 0,0270), desejo de corrigir os dentes (p< 0,0001), sexo (p= 0,0309), bullying (p< 0,0001), frequência de episódios de bullying (p= 0,0170) e consequências do bullying (p< 0,0001). Foram considerados como fatores de risco para uma QVRSB ruim os adolescentes que não realizaram tratamento ortodôntico prévio a esse estudo (OR= 2,191) e aqueles que revelaram consequências negativas relacionadas aos episódios de bullying (OR= 3,042). Conclusão: a necessidade de tratamento ortodôntico não foi associada à qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal, já o bullying e o tratamento ortodôntico prévio tiveram associação estatisticamente significativa com essa variável.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Orthodontic treatment aims at oral health and restoration of function as main objectives, however, psychological and social effects end up being the main reason for the demand for treatment. Objective: To determine the association between the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), the need for orthodontic treatment and bullying among Brazilian teenagers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional epidemiological study. To assess the malocclusion, the Dental Aesthetic Index was used. And the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 was used to analyze the OHRQoL. The Kidscape questionnaire was used to investigate cases of bullying. The following variables were also included: previous orthodontic treatment and a desire to fix the teeth to improve one’s appearance. Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression considering the poor OHRQoL as a response variable. Results: 815 teenagers participated in the study. There was a statistically significant association between oral health-related quality of life and the variables: previous orthodontic treatment (p= 0.0270), desire to fix the teeth (p< 0.0001), sex (p= 0.0309), history of being a victim of bullying (p< 0.0001), frequency of bullying episodes (p= 0.0170), and consequences of bullying (p< 0.0001). The following were considered as risk factors for poor OHRQoL: lack of previous orthodontic treatment (OR = 2.191) and negative consequences of bullying (OR = 3.042). Conclusion: The need for orthodontic treatment was not associated with the OHRQoL; however, bullying and previous orthodontic treatment had a statistically significant association with this variable.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: This paper analyzed sociodemographic and epidemiological data of individuals with syphilis as well as the compulsory reporting of the disease, for being a reemerging disease in Brazil. METHODS: General information and sociodemographic, epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory data were verified in compulsory reporting. RESULTS: From 2010 to 2016, 157 reporting forms were explored. Acquired and gestational syphilis occurred predominantly in those 20 to 29 years of age and those who did not complete secondary education. Compulsory reporting forms were not complete. CONCLUSIONS: The number of syphilis cases has varied over the years in the city. Incomplete compulsory reporting was noted.

Resumo Este estudo buscou investigar a experiência de atuação dos agentes comunitários de saúde em relação aos indivíduos que vivem com HIV/Aids em áreas de risco social. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, realizada no ano de 2015 com agentes comunitários atuantes em município de médio porte do estado de São Paulo, Brasil. A produção das narrativas foi realizada pelo método do grupo focal, interpretadas e analisadas por meio da análise temática de conteúdo. O preconceito apresentou-se como a principal causa das dificuldades de atuação dos agentes; porém, a criação do vínculo com os usuários, aliada à conquista da confiança, foi a principal potencialidade nas ações desses profissionais. Torna-se essencial o rompimento da barreira gerada pelo preconceito para uma efetiva atuação dos agentes comunitários de saúde nos territórios, para que possam colaborar com o acolhimento desses usuários e com a redução dos efeitos da vulnerabilidade existente.

Abstract The present study had the goal of investigating the work experience of community health workers with individuals who live with HIV/Aids in areas of social risk. It is a qualitative research performed in 2015 with community health workers of medium-sized municipalities in the state of Paulo, Brazil. The narratives were produced using the focus group method, and they were interpreted and analyzed through the thematic analysis of content. Prejudice was the main cause of difficulties in the work of these professionals; however, the establishment of bonds with the users, coupled with the fact that the workers gained their trust, was the main potentiality in the actions of those professionals. Therefore, it is essential that we break the barrier generated by prejudice in order to guarantee and effective work in the territories on the part of the community health workers, so they can contribute to the embracement of these users and to the reduction in the effects of the existing vulnerability.

Resumen Este estudio buscó investigar la experiencia de trabajo de los agentes comunitarios de salud en relación a los individuos que viven con HIV/Sida en áreas de riesgo social. Se trata de una investigación de naturaleza cualitativa realizada en el año 2015 con agentes comunitarios de un municipio de tamaño mediano del estado de São Paulo, Brasil. La obtención de las narraciones se realizó a través del método del grupo focal, ¿interpretadas y analizadas por medio del análisis temático de contenido?. El preconcepto se presentó como la principal causa de las dificultades de trabajo de los agentes; sin embargo, la creación de un vínculo con los usuarios combinado a la conquista de la confianza fueron las principales potencialidades en las acciones de estos profesionales. Se vuelve esencial la ruptura de la barrera generada por el preconcepto para un trabajo efectivo de los agentes comunitarios de salud en los territorios, para que puedan colaborar con la acogida de estos usuarios y la reducción de los efectos de la vulnerabilidad existente.
