Abstract: This study had the general objective of verifying the relationship between burnout syndrome, social skills, coping strategies, and socio-occupational variables in a sample of 166 elementary school teachers from 13 public schools of Minas Gerais, Brazil, aged between 23 and 65 years, 73 % of whom were female. The Burnout Syndrome Inventory (ISB), the Social Skills Inventory 2 (IHS-2), the Coping Strategies Inventory (IEC), and a socio-occupational questionnaire developed especially for this research were used. A negative correlation was obtained between burnout and repertoire of social skills (r = -.273 and p < .001). The coping strategies that positively correlated with social skills were seeking social support, problem solving, and positive reappraisal. Furthermore, there was a positive correlation between coping and professional fulfillment, indicating that teachers who adopted coping strategies were more likely to feel professionally satisfied. The burnout predictor variables were age, marital status, family provision, number of children, length of service, ongoing health care and social resourcefulness. The implications of these results were discussed concerning protective actions for the mental health of teachers and the importance of socio-emotional development in schools.

Resumen: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo general verificar la relación entre el síndrome de burnout, las habilidades sociales, el afrontamiento y las variables sociolaborales en una muestra de 166 profesores de educación básica de 13 escuelas públicas del interior de Minas Gerais, Brasil, con edades entre 23 y 65 años, el 73 % de los cuales son mujeres. Se utilizó el Inventario de Síndrome de Burnout (ISB), el Inventario de Habilidades Sociales 2 (IHS-2), el Inventario de Estrategias de Afrontamiento (IEC) y un cuestionario sociolaboral desarrollado especialmente para esta investigación. Se obtuvo una correlación negativa entre el burnout y el repertorio de habilidades sociales (r = -.273 y p = .001). Las estrategias de afrontamiento que se correlacionaron positivamente con las habilidades sociales fueron: búsqueda de apoyo social, resolución de problemas y reevaluación positiva. Además, hubo una correlación positiva entre el afrontamiento y la realización profesional, lo que indica que los profesores que adoptaron estrategias de afrontamiento tenían más probabilidades de sentirse realizados profesionalmente. Las variables predictoras del agotamiento fueron la edad, el estado civil, la provisión familiar, el número de hijos, el tiempo de servicio, la atención médica continua y la desenvoltura social. Se discuten las implicaciones de estos resultados respecto de las acciones protectoras para la salud mental de los docentes y la relevancia del desarrollo socioemocional en las escuelas.

Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo geral verificar a relação entre síndrome de burnout, habilidades sociais, coping e variáveis sócio-ocupacionais em uma amostra de 166 professores do ensino fundamental de 13 escolas públicas do interior de Minas Gerais, Brasil, com idades entre 23 e 65 anos, sendo 73 % do sexo feminino. Foram utilizados o Inventário da Síndrome de Burnout (ISB), o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais 2 (IHS-2), o Inventário de Estratégias de Coping (IEC) e um questionário sócio-ocupacional desenvolvido especialmente para esta pesquisa. Obteve-se correlação negativa entre o burnout e o repertório de habilidades sociais (r = -0,273 e p < 0,01). As estratégias de coping que se correlacionaram positivamente com as habilidades sociais foram: busca de suporte social, resolução de problemas e reavaliação positiva. Ademais, houve correlação positiva entre coping e realização profissional, indicando que professores que adotaram estratégias de enfrentamento apresentaram maior tendência a sentirem-se realizados profissionalmente. As variáveis preditoras do burnout foram idade, estado civil, provimento familiar, número de filhos, tempo de serviço, tratamento contínuo de saúde e desenvoltura social. Discutiu-se a implicação desses resultados no tocante às ações protetivas de saúde mental docente e quanto à relevância do desenvolvimento socioemocional nas escolas.

RESUMO O manejo eficaz de florestas perturbadas requer um conhecimento adequado da dinâmica florestal. Neste estudo, avaliamos a mudança de uma floresta manejada em 18 parcelas permanentes de 1 hectare localizadas na floresta tropical de terra firme no leste da Amazônia (Brasil, Paragominas). Todos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 20 cm foram avaliados em duas avaliações separadas realizadas em 2006 e 2016. Os resultados indicam que, dez anos após a exploração, a floresta manejada apresenta um desequilíbrio nas taxas de recrutamento (1,54% ao ano) e mortalidade (2,23% ao ano), sugerindo que a floresta ainda está em processo de recuperação estrutural. No entanto, a biomassa mostrou um aumento após a exploração, atingindo 28,49 toneladas por hectare. As características das mudanças indicam que a floresta está em um processo silvigenético impulsionado pela exploração madeireira. ABSTRACT The effective management of disturbed forests requires adequate knowledge of forest dynamics. In this study, we assessed the changes in a managed forest using 18 permanent 1 ha plots located in a ‘terra firme’ tropical rainforest in the Eastern Amazon (Paragominas, Brazil). All individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 20 cm were evaluated in two separate assessments conducted in 2006 and 2016. The results show that, ten years after logging, the managed forest exhibits an imbalance between recruitment (1.54% per year) and mortality (2.23% per year) rates, indicating that it is still in the process of recovering its structure. Nevertheless, biomass tended to increase after logging (28.49 tons per hectare). The characteristics of these changes suggest that the forest is undergoing a silvigenetic process driven by the effects of logging. Resumo Este trabalho analisou as distribuições diamétricas antes e após intervenções silviculturais em uma área de floresta tropical úmida da Amazônia no estado do Amapá, Brasil. O objetivo consistiu em entender de que modo a distribuição diamétrica da floresta foi recuperada depois dos tratamentos silviculturais entre 1984 e 2011, um intervalo de 27 anos. Para essa finalidade, dados de 40 parcelas permanentes foram utilizados. A função Weibull da distribuição diamétrica nos anos de 1984, 1990 e 2011 foi ajustada aos tratamentos controle T0 (0% de exploração e 0% de desbastes), T07 (25% de exploração e 50% de desbastes) e T11 (35% de exploração e 50% de desbastes) através do pacote estatístico Table Curve. As comparações das distribuições diamétricas antes e depois das intervenções silviculturais foram feitas usando o teste de χ 2. Os resultados mostraram que os ajustes da função Weibull obtiveram boa aderência pelo teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov (p > 0,05), em todos os tratamentos e em todos os períodos. Não houve diferenças significativas antes e depois das intervenções para T0. Por outro lado, foram observadas diferenças das distribuições diamétricas antes e depois das intervenções conforme os níveis de intervenção para T7 e T11. Portanto, para T11, a distribuição diamétrica recuperou-se depois das intervenções, o que significa que o período de 1984 a 2011 foi suficiente para a recuperação da distribuição diamétrica ao seu estado inicial.

Abstract This study analyzed the diametric distributions before and after forest management in a rainforest area of the Amazon in the Amapá State, Brazil. It aimed to understand how the diametric distribution of the forest was recovered after 27 years of forest management between 1984 and 2011. For this purpose, data from 40 permanent plots were used. The Weibull function for the diametric distribution was fitted to data from 1984, 1990, and 2011 by applying the Table Curve statistical package over the control treatments T0 (0% exploration and 0% thinning), T07 (25% exploration and 50% thinning), and T11 (35% exploration and 50% thinning). Comparisons between the diametric distributions before and after the forest management were conducted using the χ 2 test. After fitting the Weibull function, the results showed good adherence by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p > 0.05) for all treatments and periods. There were no differences in the diametric distributions before and after management for T0. In contrast, diametric distributions were different before and after forest management regarding the intervention levels for T7 and T11. Therefore, for T11, the diametric distribution recovered after management, indicating that forest management during 1984-2011 was enough to recover the diametric distribution to its initial state.

RESUMO Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura de artigos sobre habilidades sociais educativas de pais de crianças com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Objetivos: identificar, selecionar e descrever artigos que caracterizaram Habilidades Sociais Educativas (HSE) parentais e realizar uma análise de correspondência entre os comportamentos abordados nesses estudos e o Sistema de Habilidades Sociais Educativas (SHSE) de Del Prette e Del Prette. Fonte de dados: artigos publicados no LILACS, Scielo, PubMed, ScienceDirect e PsycoINFO, sem especificação de período. Conclusões: Verificou-se a ausência de estudos no contexto brasileiro. Nove artigos em língua inglesa foram encontrados. Todas as classes de habilidades do SHSE foram identificadas, tendo sido mais frequentes as classes Monitorar Positivamente e Transmitir ou expor conteúdos sobre habilidades sociais. A análise de correspondência demonstrou a possibilidade de uso do SHSE em estudos com pais de crianças com TEA, bem como a necessidade de aprimoramentos, incluindo comportamentos avaliados e/ou treinados nessa população.

ABSTRACT This is a literature review of articles about educational social skills of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Objectives: to identify, select and describe articles that characterized parental Social Educational Skills (SES) and perform a correspondence analysis between the behaviors addressed in these studies and the Social Educational Skills System (SESS) by Del Prette and Del Prette. Data source: articles published in LILACS, Scielo, PubMed, ScienceDirect and PsycoINFO, without period specification. Conclusions: There was a lack of studies in the Brazilian context. Nine English-language articles were found. All SESS skill classes were identified, with the most frequent classes Positively Monitor and Transmit or expose content about social skills. Correspondence analysis demonstrated the possibility of using the SESS in studies with parents of children with ASD, as well as the need for improvements, including behaviors evaluated and/or trained in this population.

RESUMO CONTEXTO: Estudos recentes mostraram que médicos em treinamento podem realizar a colonoscopia de maneira eficaz e segura. No entanto, pouco se sabe sobre a performance dos médicos residentes de cirurgia sem o conhecimento prévio das técnicas endoscópicas. OBJETIVO: Avaliar se os indicadores de qualidade foram atendidos em um centro de endoscopia ambulatorial e se os residentes de cirurgia, sem habilidades anteriores em endoscopia alta ou baixa, realizaram a colonoscopia de forma adequada. MÉTODOS: Foi realizado um estudo de coorte prospectivo não randomizado. Todos os exames foram realizados por médicos assistentes ou residentes. Os indicadores de qualidade foram comparados entre esses grupos. RESULTADOS: Um total de 2.720 colonoscopias foram analisadas. No grupo de médicos residentes, observamos pacientes mais velhos (57,7±12,7 anos vs 51,5±14,5 anos, P<0,001), maior prevalência de colonoscopias de rastreamento (52% vs 39,4%, P<0,001) e maior prevalência de câncer colorretal (6,4% vs 1,8%, P<0,001). A taxa de intubação cecal foi maior no grupo de médicos assistentes (99,9% vs 89,3%; P<0,001). A taxa de detecção de pólipos foi de 40,8% e não foram observadas diferenças entre os grupos estudados. Os médicos residentes tiveram maior índice de perfuração (0,4% vs 0%; P=0,02). O sangramento pós-polipectomia e as taxas de readmissão em 7 dias foram iguais (0,2%). Todas as readmissões em 7 dias ocorreram devido a hemorragia digestiva baixa e nenhuma intervenção foi necessária. CONCLUSÃO: Os indicadores de qualidade foram alcançados em um centro de endoscopia universitário; no entanto, os médicos residentes alcançaram taxas mais baixas de intubação cecal e taxas mais altas de perfuração do que os médicos assistentes.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that endoscopy fellows can perform colonoscopy effectively and safely. However, little is known about the performance of surgical residents without prior knowledge of endoscopic techniques. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether quality indicators were met at an outpatient endoscopy center and whether surgical residents, without prior upper or lower endoscopy skills, could perform colonoscopy adequately. METHODS: A prospective non-randomized cohort study was undertaken. All exams were performed either by assistant physicians or by residents. Quality measures were compared between those groups. RESULTS: A total of 2720 colonoscopies were analyzed. In the resident group, we observed older patients (57.7±12.7 years vs 51.5±14.5 years, P<0.001), a higher prevalence of screening colonoscopies (52% vs 39.4%, P<0.001) and a higher prevalence of colorectal cancer (6.4% vs 1.8%, P<0.001). The cecal intubation rate was higher in the attending group (99.9% vs 89.3%; P<0.001). The polyp detection rate was 40.8%, and no differences were observed between the studied groups. The residents had a higher rate of perforation in all exams (0.4% vs 0%; P=0.02). Postpolypectomy bleeding and 7-day readmission rates were the same (0.2%). All readmissions in 7 days occurred due to low digestive bleeding, and none required intervention. CONCLUSION: Quality indicators were met at a university outpatient endoscopy center; however, medical residents achieved lower rates of cecal intubation and higher rates of perforation than the attending physicians.

The incorporation of Cerrado fruits in food products such as ice cream has many advantages because it represents a source of nutrients and bioactive compounds. Given the demand for less laborious methods to analyze food, the paper spray ionization mass spectrometry technique was applied for the first time for a rapid characterization of the chemical components found cagaita ice cream. PS-MS in positive and negative ionization modes were used. The profile of volatile compounds was determined by headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Fingerprints obtained through PS-MS identified various classes of compounds, such as flavones, anthocyanins, sugars, organic acids, hydroxybenzoic acids, fatty acids, hydroxycinnamic acids, lignin, and phenylpropanoid. The use of both fibers enabled the extraction and identification of 18 volatile compounds in cagaita, and 16 of them were also identified in cagaita ice cream. The most common volatile compound found in both cagaita and ice cream was 3-carene monoterpene. Considering the effect of processing on cagaita constituents, 89% of the volatile compounds remained in the ice cream. Also, 78% of the fruit chemical compounds analyzed by PS-MS were found in the product. Thus, the results indicate that most of the fruit compounds remained in the ice cream after processing.

This study aims at assessing the degree of susceptibility to intergranular corrosion of the UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel and the 0.4% Mo austenitic stainless steel through the double-loop electrochemical potentiodynamic reactivation (DL-EPR) test. Both steels were subjected to isothermal treatments at 650ºC and 900ºC in order to compare the effect of temperature on the respective degrees of sensitization. It was observed that the 0.4% Mo austenitic stainless steel presented a higher degree of sensitization and, consequently, a greater susceptibility to the intergranular corrosion process when compared to the UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel in the two temperatures studied. It was also observed that, for both steels, the heat treatment at 900ºC resulted in a higher degree of sensitization when compared to the heat treatment at 650ºC.

O matemático e astrônomo grego Aristarco de Samos, século III a.C., foi a primeira pessoa a sistematizar um método para estimar distâncias e tamanhos relativos entre Terra, Sol e Lua. Ele também foi o primeiro a propor que a Terra gira em torno do Sol. No presente trabalho realizamos uma revisão, em linguagem moderna, do método proposto por Aristarco para estimar a distância do Sol à Terra, S, em relação a distância da Lua à Terra, L. Na sequência apresentamos o modelo proposto por nós para a determinação experimental da razão S/L e do diâmetro angular do Sol e da Lua, bem como a montagem experimental utilizada. Realizamos dois experimentos, um com a Lua Crescente e um com a Lua Minguante. Destacamos que nosso principal objetivo é trabalhar a temática do cálculo de distâncias astrômicas com o uso de modelos geométricos. Esperamos que professores de matemática, física e astronomia venham utilizar o presente material em suas aulas e apresentações, problematizando com os alunos as dificuldades técnicas e históricas e os aspectos físicos e geométricos envolvidos. E, se possível, que reproduzam as medidas.

The greek mathematician and astronomer Aristarchus of Samos, 3rd century BC, was the first person to systematize a method to estimating relative distances and sizes between Earth, Sun and Moon. He was also the first to propose that the Earth revolves around the Sun. In the present work, we carried out a review, in modern language, of the method proposed by Aristarchus to estimate the distance from the Sun to the Earth, S, in relation to the distance from the Moon to the Earth, L. After that we present the model proposed by us to do the experimental determination of the ratio S/L and the angular diameter of the Sun and Moon, as well as the experimental setup used. We performed two experiments, one with the Crescent Moon and one with the Waning Moon. We emphasize that our main objective is to deal with calculating astronomical distances with the use of geometric models. We expect that teachers of mathematics, physics and astronomy will use this material in their classes and presentations, discussing with students the technical and historical difficulties and the physical and geometric aspects involved. And, if possible, that they reproduce the measures.

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) has been one of the main herbicides used to control weeds, however, due to its high use it can promote episodes of environmental contamination. Therefore, this study aimed to optimize and validate the liquid-liquid extraction with low-temperature partition (LLE-LTP) and the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) methods for determining 2,4-D in water samples by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector. The recovery percentages of the two methodologies were close to 100 ± 3%, and the limits of quantification were 2.0 and 3.1 µg L-1 for LLE-LTP and QuEChERS, respectively. The methodologies were selective and presented linearity from 2.0-26.0 and 3.1-40.6 µg L-1 for LLE-LTP and QuEChERS, respectively. The LLE-LTP was better than QuEChERS due to a smaller number of steps, lower reagent consumption, higher concentration factor and a lower limit of quantification. The real samples did not reveal any environmental contamination episodes by 2,4-D.

Abstract Tsetse flies are responsible for the transmission of Trypanossoma sp. to vertebrate animals in Africa causing huge health issues and economic loss. The availability of the genome sequence of Glossina morsitans enabled the discovery of several genes related to medically important phenotypes and novel physiological features. However, a genome-wide scan for coding regions that underwent positive selection is still missing, which is surprising given the evolution of traits associated with the hematophagy in this lineage. In this study, we employed an experimental design that controlled for the rate of false positives and we performed a scan of 3,318 G. morsitans genes. We found 145 genes with significant historical signal of positive selection. These genes were categorized into 18 functional classes after careful manual annotation. Based on their attributed functions, we identified candidate genes related with feeding habits and embryonic development. When our results were contrasted with gene expression data, we confirmed that most genes that underwent adaptive molecular evolution were frequently expressed in organs associated with key physiological evolutionary innovations in the G. morsitans lineage, namely, the salivary gland, the midgut, fat body tissue, and in the spermatophore.

Resumo Aprendizagem socioemocional nem sempre é contemplada, com devido planejamento e embasamento científico, na educação infantil. Avaliou-se impacto de intervenção de Regulação Emocional (RE) no desempenho escolar e Habilidades Sociais (HS) de 55 crianças de escolas públicas, utilizando-se Matrizes Progressivas Coloridas de Raven (CPM), Teste de Desempenho Escolar e Sistema de Avaliação de Habilidades Sociais (SSRS-BR).Após nove encontros de 50 minutos abordando estratégias de RE, avaliação de HS pelo professor indicou melhora em todos os aspectos de HS noGrupo Intervenção (GI) e piora no autocontrole no GrupoComparação (GC). Autoavaliação de HS mostrou que GI superou diferença inicial na assertividadee evitação de problemas. Os resultados sugerem que programas de RE podem trazer benefícios para o desenvolvimento das HS.

Abstract In early childhood education, socio-emotional learning is not always considered with appropriate planning nor based on scientific evidence. Aiming to analyze impact of an Emotional Regulation (ER) Intervention in school achievement and social skills (SS), fifty-five children from public schools were evaluated by Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices (CPM), School Achievement Test (TDE) and Social Skills Rating System (SSRS-BR). After nine 50-minute meetings addressing ER strategies, evaluation of SS by the teacher indicated improvement in all aspects of SS in Intervention Group (IG) and worsening of the self-control in Comparison Group (CG). Self-evaluation of SS showed that IG overcame the initial difference in assertiveness and problem avoidance. Results suggest that ER programs can bring benefits to the development of SS.

RESUMO O aporte de resíduos vegetais no solo proporcionado pelos sistemas conservacionistas de manejo aumenta a quantidade de substrato, altera a fertilidade e aumenta a atividade biológica do solo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influencia dos sistemas de manejo nos atributos químicos e na atividade microbiana do solo sob cultivo de mandioca. Com delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 3 x 2, foram avaliados dois sistemas de cultivo mínimo (somente roçado; roçado e incorporado), três tipos de cobertura (pousio; Crotalaria juncea L.; Canavalia ensiformis L.) e duas profundidades (0-0,10 e 0,10-0,20 m), com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados a produção de massa seca das coberturas, os atributos químicos e a atividade microbiana do solo. Não houve diferenças entre sistemas de cultivo mínimo e a C. juncea apresentou a maior produção de massa seca. Os teores de potássio e cálcio foram superiores nas áreas com resíduos de pousio e C. juncea na camada de 0-0,10 m; no entanto, estes nutrientes diferem na camada do solo abaixo 0,10-0,20 m. Não houve diferenças entre a respiração basal de microorganismo do solo em ambas as profundidades e coberturas, mas o carbono da biomassa microbiana foi superior na camada mais superficial, onde há mais substrato disponível para os microorganismos do solo.

ABSTRACT Conservationist systems of crop management increases the amount of substrate, alters fertility and increases soil biological activity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of soil management systems on the chemical attributes and microbial activity of soil under cassava crop. The experiment was set as completely randomized design in a factorial scheme of 2 x 3 x 2, being two systems of cultivation (minimum with only mown; minimum with mown and incorporation), three types of soil coverage (fallow; Crotalaria juncea L.; Canavalia ensiformis L.) and two soil depths (0-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m), with four repetitions. The production of dry mass from cover crops, the soil chemical attributes and the soil microbial activity were evaluated. There were no differences between management systems, and the C. juncea cover crop presented superior dry mass production among the soil coverages. The concentrations of soil Ca and K were greater in the fallow coverage and C. juncea areas in the 0-0.10 m soil layer; however, these nutrients differ in the soil layer below (0.10-0.20 m). There were no differences for the basal respiration of soil microorganisms in both soil depths or among soil coverage, but the carbon from microbial biomass was superior in the most superficial soil layer where more substrate is available to soil microorganisms.
