RESUMO: Efeitos de extratos vegetais têm sido apontados e comprovados em pesquisas sob diferentes aplicações na agricultura, incluindo o tratamento de sementes. A eficácia de extratos vegetais é atribuída a presença de certas classes de compostos, logo, sendo importante estudos que visam a identificação e quantificação destes compostos presentes em extratos de plantas usados na agricultura, bem como para o tratamento de sementes. Objetivou-se compreender e descrever, por meio de uma revisão sistematizada, quais as principais abordagens realizadas, classes e compostos identificados em estudos com extratos vegetais para diferentes aplicações na agricultura e no tratamento de sementes. O período 2015 a 2020 foi o que apresentou os maiores índices de publicações de pesquisas que exploram extratos vegetais na agricultura, buscando identificar e, ou quantificar os compostos presentes nos extratos vegetais. Os compostos fenólicos constituem a classe prioritária de metabólitos para diferentes funções, efeitos e aplicações na agricultura, principalmente no tratamento de sementes. Os terpenos apresentam grande potencial como bioinseticidas para a agricultura. ABSTRACT: Plant extracts effects have been regarded and proven in researches under different applications in agriculture, including seed treatment. The plant extracts effectiveness is attributed to the presence of certain classes of compounds; therefore, studies that aim to identify and quantify these composites, which are present in plant extracts used in agriculture, are important, as well as the seed treatment. This research aimed to understand and describe through a systematic review, what were the main carried approaches, classes and identified compounds in studies with plant extracts to different applications in agriculture and the seed treatment. Resumo As casas de sementes crioulas são espaços coletivos que têm um papel importante na região do semiárido brasileiro. Mapear e conhecer a diversidade de materiais nas casas de sementes da região do Cariri Cearense é necessário para compreender os impactos e vantagens desta tecnologia social, como também permite perceber e definir estratégias de fortalecimento desses espaços. Objetivou-se com este trabalho realizar o mapeamento e compreender as formas de criação das casas de sementes crioulas do Cariri Cearense e analisar a diversidade de materiais mantidos nelas. Para isso, as casas de sementes foram cadastradas e mapeadas em toda região do Cariri com uso do georreferenciamento para produção de mapas por meio da ferramenta de análise espacial QGIS 3.26. Abstract Creole seed houses are collective spaces that play an important role in the Brazilian semi-arid region. Mapping and knowing the diversity of materials in seed houses in the region of Cariri Cearense is necessary to understand the impacts and advantages of this social technology, as well as allowing us to define strategies to strengthen these spaces. The aim of this work was to map Creole seed houses in Cariri Cearense and analyze the diversity of materials kept in them. For this, the seed houses were registered and mapped throughout the Cariri region using georeferencing to produce maps using the QGIS 3.26 spatial analysis tool. Based on visits, observations and collection of information regarding seed diversity, 13 active seed houses were identified, most of them present in the central region, where organized agricultural communities are concentrated and there is support from partner institutions in the management and structuring of these houses. RESUMO: A análise de imagens por meio da técnica de raios X vem recebendo grande destaque por ser uma técnica importante para identificação de danos internos em sementes, de forma rápida e precisa, além de ser um método não destrutivo. O objetivo do trabalho foi verificar a utilização de raios x para avaliação da morfologia interna de sementes de espécies de adubos verdes. Sementes de tremoço-branco (Lupinus albus L.), feijão guandu-anão (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.), feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformis (L.) ABSTRACT: Image analysis through X-ray technique has been receiving great attention due to its importance in identifying internal damage in seeds quickly and accurately, in addition to being a non-destructive method. The aim of this study was to assess the use of X-rays to evaluate the internal morphology of seeds of green manure species. Seeds of Lupinus albus L., Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp., Canavalia ensiformis (L.) DC. and Stylosanthes spp. were radiographed. RESUMO: Substâncias produzidas por plantas têm grande importância na regulação de múltiplas funções, como germinação, promoção de crescimento, aumento na produção (frutos, sementes, biomassa, etc.) e ativação de mecanismos de defesa da planta contra ataques de pragas e doenças. Plantas são amplamente diversas, cada espécie produz diferentes compostos em diferentes concentrações. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de 20 extratos de plantas obtidos de diferentes espécies vegetais sobre a germinação e estabelecimento de plântulas de milho e alface, nas concentrações de 5%, 10% ou 20%. Foram realizados dois experimentos, o primeiro afim de avaliar os efeitos dos 20 extratos sobre a germinação e sobre o comprimento radicular e de parte aérea após germinação. Para o segundo experimento, conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com três e dez repetições para milho e alface, respectivamente, apenas os três extratos mais expressivos foram selecionados. A altura e massa de matéria seca das plântulas foram avaliados. Para o primeiro experimento a maioria dos extratos demonstraram efeito negativo para a germinação em ambas as espécies vegetais. Apenas Conyza bonariensis a 5% e Richardia brasiliensis a 5% e 20% tiveram efeitos positivos, aumentando o comprimento de plântulas de milho pós germinadas. Para o estabelecimento de plântulas, extratos de Conyza bonariensis, Leucaena leucocephala e Richardia brasiliensis não apresentaram diferença estatística para altura de parte aérea, mas colaboraram para o aumento de massa seca em raiz e parte aérea. ABSTRACT: Substances produced by plants have huge importance regulating multiple functions as germination, development promoter/enhancer, yield increaser and activator of plant defense system against diseases and pests. Due to diversity, each plant species produces different compounds and in different concentrations. This research evaluated the role of 20 plants extracts obtained from different plant species or plant tissues on seed germination and seedlings establishment of maize and lettuce, in concentration of 5%, 10% or 20%. For this, two experiments were carried out, the first analyzing 20 plant extracts and the effects on germination percentage and root and shoot length based on the germination test for the two species. The second was carried out in a greenhouse, in a completely randomized design with three and ten repetitions for maize and lettuce, respectively, using only the three extracts with the best results from the first experiment. Seedling height and seedling dry matter were evaluated. To germination test most of extracts showed negative or no effects in both species. Only Conyza bonariensis at 5% and Richardia brasiliensis at 5% and 20% had positive effects on early seedling growth, increasing the seedlings length for maize seedlings. To seedlings establishment, Conyza bonariensis, Leucaena leucocephala and Richardia brasiliensis extracts did not show statistical difference to shoots height but increased the dry mass of shoots and roots. The results demonstrated that these plants extract have potential as growth promoters and can be a good option to a better seedling growth and establishment, collaborating to a more effective agriculture. ABSTRACT Seed coating is a common practice in treating corn seeds and polymers are used to improve seed performance in terms of physical, physiological, and health quality. However, adverse environmental impacts caused by using non-renewable and non-biodegradable polymers are driving the search for alternatives to overcome these effects, such as natural-based polymers. This study evaluated the effect of chitosan coating formulations (0.6-3.4 g 100 mL –1 chitosan and 0-0.60 g glycerol g –1 chitosan) on the quality of corn seeds ( Zea mays L.) regarding physical aspects (visual and morphological aspect, water content, and 1,000-seed mass), physiological potential (germination test, germination speed index, seedling length, cold test, seedling emergence, seedling emergence speed index, seedling height, and root and shoot dry matter), and health quality (Blotter test). Chitosan coatings associated with glycerol did not interfere with the water content, 1,000-seed mass, germination and emergence percentages, cold test, and root dry matter. RESUMO: Estudos em ciência de sementes são desenvolvidos frente a uma ampla gama de finalidades, sendo a análise estatística dos dados um componente imprescindível para confiabilidade e comprovação experimental. Devido às características dos dados de sementes, diversos métodos estatísticos podem ser aplicados na sua análise, dentre os quais destaca-se a análise de sobrevivência, em virtude de alocar dados censurados e descrever fenômenos ao longo do tempo. Sendo assim, este estudo bibliométrico teve por objetivo verificar o uso da análise de sobrevivência em estudos com germinação de sementes e examinar as aplicações da análise de sobrevivência em artigos originais da base de dados Web of Science para o período de 2000 a 2020. Observou-se para aplicação da análise de sobrevivência, baixo número de publicações com este método estatístico ao decorrer dos anos, sendo os Estados Unidos (EUA) o país de maior produtividade em publicações, com pesquisas relacionadas principalmente a estudos em ecologia vegetal e fisiologia. ABSTRACT: Studies on seed science are developed for a wide range of purposes, being the statistical analysis of data essential for experimental reliability and evidence. Due to the characteristics of seed data, several statistical methods can be applied, among them the survival analysis stands out, in virtue of allocating censored data and describing phenomena over time. Therefore, this bibliometric study verified the use of survival analysis in studies with seed germination and to examine the applications of survival analysis in original articles from the Web of Science database for the period from 2000 to 2020. For the application of survival analysis, there was a low number of publications related to seed science, with the USA being the country with the highest number of publications mainly to studies in plant ecology and physiology. In general, the researches were most involved to the evaluation of factors influencing dormancy, physiological stresses, dispersion capacity, population differences and habitats of development which affected seed germination. Abstract The maintenance of creole seeds promotes preservation of agrobiodiversity and family autonomy. For this reason, seeds quality is essential in the context of creole seeds because directly impacts the improvement of the production field and, consequently, its continuous existence. The study evaluated the diversity and the seed quality of creole maize seeds in two harvests in the South-West of São Paulo, Brazil, an important maize production site in Brazil. Seeds from both harvests (2019 and 2020) were evaluated regarding the physical (physical aspects, one test seed mass, test of infestation), physiological (water content, germination test, seedling emergence in soil, emergence speed index and cold test) and health potential (blotter test). Among 20 lots collected, the seeds were classified into five varieties according to family famers perception. It was observed a variation in terms of physical, physiological and health quality between the seed lots. The lots harvested in 2020 had the highest values of size, 1000 seed mass, germination and vigor. The blotter test identified for both harvests, mainly in 2019, high incidence of Aspergillus sp. and Penicillium sp., considered as storage fungi. Therefore, the variation in seed quality between the harvest refers mainly to the characteristics of the storage process performed. More studies on better strategies for creole maize seed storage are necessary to guarantee seed quality, since low seed quality is a risk for losing these materials.

Resumen El mantenimiento de semillas criollas promueve la preservación de la agrobiodiversidad y la autonomía familiar. Por este motivo, la calidad de las semillas es fundamental, en el contexto de las semillas criollas, porque impacta directamente en la permanencia de esas semillas. El estudio evaluó la diversidad y la calidad de las semillas de maíces criollos, en dos cosechas en el suroeste de São Paulo, Brasil. Las semillas de ambas cosechas (2019 y 2020) se evaluaron en los aspectos físicos (masa de las semillas y prueba de infestación), fisiológicos (prueba de germinación, emergencia de plántula en suelo, índice de velocidad de emergencia y prueba de frío) y salud potencial (prueba de papel secante). Entre los 20 lotes recolectados, las semillas se clasificaron en cinco variedades según la percepción de los agricultores familiares. Se observó una variación de calidad física, fisiológica y sanitaria entre los lotes de semillas. Los lotes cosechados en 2020 tuvieron los valores más elevados en cuanto a tamaño, masa de 1 000 semillas, germinación y vigor. La prueba secante identificó para ambas cosechas, principalmente en 2019, una alta incidencia de Aspergillus sp. y Penicillium sp., considerados hongos de almacenamiento. Consecuentemente, la variación en la calidad de las semillas se debe a las características del proceso de almacenamiento. No obstante, resultan necesarios más estudios sobre estrategias de almacenamiento de semillas de maíces criollos para garantizar la calidad de las semillas, ya que la baja calidad de estas representa un riesgo de pérdida de estos materiales.

RESUMO: Em resposta aos efeitos nocivos da utilização de substâncias toxicas na agricultura, a ciência tem avançado no desenvolvimento de soluções alternativas, visando compreender a eficácia e o potencial de extratos vegetais na agricultura. Objetivou-se com esta revisão sistematizada compreender a situação da pesquisa e divulgação científica, bem como a maneira que a ciência atual tem abordado o uso de extratos vegetais na agricultura, especialmente na aplicação em sementes. O uso de extratos vegetais na agricultura tem potencial demonstrado pelo elevado número de publicações nos últimos dez anos, com destaque para os anos de 2018, 2019 e 2020, sendo o Brasil o país de maior produção de trabalhos voltados à essa área de estudo. Os temas controle de microrganismos fitopatogênicos, controle de insetos, efeito bioestimulante, indução de resistência e efeito herbicida tem sido os principais temas explorados para uso na agricultura. A aplicação de extratos vegetais é centrada principalmente em organismos fitopatogênicos associados a plantas e sementes, sendo que, para a aplicação em sementes, o foco está no controle de organismos fitopatogênicos e efeito de promoção de crescimento.

ABSTRACT: The harmful effects caused by the use of toxic substances in agriculture have led to the development of alternative solutions, and researchers have focused on understanding the effectiveness and potential of plant extracts in agriculture. The aim of this systematic review was to understand the situation of research and scientific dissemination, as well as how current science has approached the use of plant extracts in agriculture, especially in seed applications. There is potential on the use of plant extracts in agriculture, demonstrated by a high number of publications over the last ten years, especially in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020, and Brazil stands out as the main country on this research area. Control of phytopathogenic microorganisms, insect control, biostimulant effect, resistance induction and herbicide effect have been the main themes explored for use in agriculture. The direct application of plant extracts is centered on plants and seeds, being this latter mainly focused on the control of phytopathogenic organisms and biostimulating effect.

RESUMO Folhas de couve lisa e crespa cultivadas em sistema convencional e hidropônico foram analisadas sensorialmente utilizando a técnica sensorial descritiva e afetiva. Foram utilizados quatro híbridos de couve de folha (Brassica oleracea var. acephala), sendo eles: Darkibor em cultivo hidropônico (A), Darkibor cultivado em campo (B), e três híbridos de couve-manteiga, HS2O (C), Arielli (D) e Kobe (E), todas três cultivadas em campo. Os provadores indicaram que os atributos que descreveram o perfil sensorial das folhas de couve apresentaram diferenças significativas. As folhas de couve Darkibor (A) e Arielli (D) apresentaram cor verde mais clara; para formato as couves foram separadas em lisas e crespas; para o gosto amargo Darkibor cultivado em campo (B) e Arielli (D) apresentaram maior intensidade; para o gosto doce a Darkibor (A) apresentou maior intensidade, seguida da Arielli (D) e para crocância e sensação bucal (sensação produzida por um determinado alimento na boca) o híbrido Darkibor cultivado em campo (B) apresentou maior intensidade. No teste de aceitação, a cor foi o único atributo que apresentou diferença entre as couves, onde a couve Darkibor (A) apresentou menor nota. Para intenção de compra das couves em maço, a Darkibor (A) obteve notas inferiores, concluindo que a cor afeta a compra do consumidor.

ABSTRACT Curly and smooth kale hybrids grown in both field (conventional) and hydroponic systems were sensory-analyzed using the descriptive and affective sensory technique. The treatments comprised hydroponic-cultivated Darkibor (A), Darkibor cultivated in field (B), HS2O (C), Arielli (D) and Kobe (E), these last three cultivated under conventional system (field-cultivated). The panelists indicated the significant attributes that described the differences in kale sensory profiles. Darkibor (A) and Arielli (D) kale leaves had the lightest green color. Regarding their format, the kales were classified into smooth and curly. Both the Darkibor grown in field (B) and Arielli (D) had the most intense bitter taste. Darkibor (A) showed the highest intensity for sweet taste, followed by Arielli (D). The field-cultivated Darkibor (B) ranked the highest crispness and mouthfeel (sensation produced by a particular food in the mouth). The color and texture of the kale leaves affected purchase intention by the consumer, and the color showed a difference among the kales, with Darkibor kale (A) receiving the lowest score. Darkibor (A) obtained lower buying-likelihood scores, reinforcing that color affects consumers’ purchase intention.

RESUMO: Campomanesia phaea possui interesse comercial devido aos seus frutos serem utilizados na fabricação de vários produtos, além do seu alto potencial nutricional. No entanto, possui baixo potencial germinativo e há pouca informação na literatura. O objetivo desse trabalho foi caracterizar biometricamente e estabelecer o teste de tetrazólio para sementes de cambuci. Sementes provenientes de duas épocas de coleta foram submetidas a avaliações biométricas (comprimento, espessura, largura e massa de sementes), teor de água, obtenção da curva de embebição e teste de tetrazólio. A curva de embebição foi realizada com sementes não escarificadas e sementes submetidas a dois métodos de escarificação, mecânica e química. O teste de tetrazólio foi realizado com embebição das sementes em solução de sal cloreto de 2, 3, 5 trifenil tetrazólio a 0,75; 1,00 e 1,50% durante 4, 8 e 12 horas, classificando-as como viáveis e inviáveis. Conclui-se que as sementes de cambuci apresentaram diferenças biométricas entre as duas épocas de coleta, devido aos diferentes teores de água. Nenhuma diferença ocorreu em relação à curva de embebição para os três tratamentos avaliados e a solução de 0,75% durante quatro horas em banho-maria, à 38 °C, foi considerada a melhor para realização do teste de tetrazólio.

ABSTRACT: Campomanesia phaea has commercial interest because its fruits are used in the manufacture of several products, besides its high nutritional potential. Nevertheless, it has low germination potential and there is not much information in the literature. The aim of this study was to perform a biometric characterization and to establish the tetrazolium test for cambuci seeds. Seeds obtained from two collection periods were subjected to biometric evaluations (seed length, thickness, width and mass), water content, determination of the soaking curve and tetrazolium test. The soaking curve was performed with non-scarified seeds and seeds subjected to two scarification methods, mechanical and chemical. The tetrazolium test was performed soaking the seeds in a solution of 2, 3, 5 triphenyl tetrazolium chloride salt at 0.75, 1.00 and 1.50% for 4, 8 and 12 hours. After this period, the seeds were categorized as viable and non-viable. It was concluded that the cambuci seeds presented biometric differences between the two collection periods, because of the different water contents. There was no difference in the soaking curve among the three treatments tested and the solution of 0.75% for four hours in a water bath at 38 oC was considered the best for performing the tetrazolium test.

Resumo O consumo e o cultivo da couve de folha crespa no Brasil são recentes e mostram-se escassas as informações sobre sistemas de produção e sua aceitação pelo consumidor. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar as características sensoriais de couves de folhas crespas cultivadas em sistemas convencional e hidropônico, considerando os tratamentos: cultivo sistema convencional, sem adubação (A), sistema convencional com fertilizantes orgânicos (C, E) e sistema hidropônico (F). As colheitas foram realizadas aos 60, 90 e 120 dias após plantio para as plantas cultivadas em sistema convencional e, aos 30 dias, para o sistema hidropônico. Foi analisado o teor do índice de clorofila total e realizada a análise sensorial de ordenação de diferença e aceitação. O índice de clorofila nas couves de folhas crespas no sistema convencional foi menor em relação ao da couve cultivada em sistema hidropônico. Para teste de ordenação, a cor verde foi mais escura na couve crespa produzida em sistema convencional e, para os demais atributos (aroma, gostos doce e amargo, e crocância), não houve diferença significativa.

Abstract The consumption and cultivation of curly kale in Brazil is recent and information on production systems and their acceptance by the consumer are scarce. The aim of this work was to evaluate the sensory characteristics of curly kales cultivated using the conventional and hydroponic systems, considering the treatments: cultivation under the conventional system, without fertilization (A), conventional system with organic fertilizers (C, E) and hydroponic system (F). The harvests were performed at 60, 90 and 120 days after planting for the plants cultivated using the conventional system and at 30 days for the hydroponic system. The total chlorophyll index content and the sensory analyses of ranking of difference and acceptance were analyzed. The lowest chlorophyll index in the curly kales was verified for the one cultivated under the hydroponic system. In the ranking test, the darkest green color was obtained for the curly kale produced using the conventional system and for the attributes aroma, sweet and bitter taste and crunchiness, there was no significant difference.

Resumo O trifoliata é um dos porta-enxertos de maior uso no mundo, principalmente por proporcionar produção de frutos de excelente qualidade. Dentre os fatores que determinam a qualidade fisiológica das sementes está a colheita de frutos na época correta. Objetivou-se com este trabalho monitorar alterações físico-químicas em frutos de trifoliata Limeira-IAC382 , buscando o momento ideal de colheita, visando a obter sementes de qualidade para a produção de bons porta-enxertos. Os frutos foram colhidos aos 180; 210 e 240 dias após a antese (DAA), armazenados em câmara fria e avaliados aos 0; 15; 30 e 45 dias de armazenamento. Foram realizadas as seguintes determinações: perda de massa e índice de cor dos frutos; sólidos solúveis, acidez total titulável e ratio do suco dos frutos. As sementes dos frutos foram extraídas manualmente e secas até atingir 30% de teor de água. Com as sementes, realizaram-se os testes de germinação, a condutividade elétrica e a emergência em casa de vegetação. As sementes extraídas de frutos colhidos aos 240 DAA apresentam maior porcentagem de germinação e emergência de plântulas, em relação aos demais tratamentos, até 30 dias e 45 dias de armazenamento dos frutos em câmara fria, respectivamente. O armazenamento, por 45 dias em câmara fria, de frutos colhidos aos 210 DAA, aumenta a taxa de germinação das sementes, assim como aumenta a porcentagem de emergência de plântulas de sementes colhidas aos 180 DAA. Conclui-se que a colheita dos frutos de trifoliata Limeira-IAC382 deve ser realizada quando estes apresentarem casca amarelada e baixo valor de ratio do suco, visando a obter sementes com qualidade fisiológica.

Abstract Trifoliate orange is one of the rootstocks most used worldwide mainly because it provides excellent quality fruit production. Harvest at the correct time is among factors that determine the physiological quality of seeds. The aim of this study was to identify physicochemical changes in ‘Limeira-IAC382’ trifoliate orange fruits, searching for the ideal harvest moment to obtain high quality seeds. Fruits were harvested at 180, 210 and 240 days after anthesis, stored in cold chamber and evaluated at 0, 15, 30 and 45 days of storage. The following variables were determined: mass loss, fruit color index, soluble solids, total titratable acidity and fruit juice ratio. Seeds were manually extracted and dried until reaching 30% water content. Seeds were used for the performance of germination, electrical conductivity and greenhouse seedling emergence tests. Seeds from fruits harvested at 240 DAA showed higher germination and greenhouse seedling emergence percentage compared to the other treatments until 30 and 45 days of storage in cold chamber, respectively. Storage for 45 days in cold chamber of fruits harvested at 210 DAA increases seed germination rate and the percentage of seedlings from seeds harvested at 180 DAA. It could be concluded that the harvesting of ‘Limeira-IAC382’ trifoliate orange fruits should be performed when fruits reached yellowish peel and low juice ratio, aiming at obtaining seeds with physiological quality.

RESUMO Muitos são os fatores que podem interferir na qualidade de sementes de milheto; porém, não se sabe se a localização nas diferentes posições da panícula pode interferir nessa qualidade. Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade de sementes de milheto produzidas em diferentes posições da panícula, por meio dos testes de uniformidade, massa de 1.000 sementes, teor de água, raios X, germinação, comprimento de plântulas, massa de matéria seca das plântulas, de frio e de sanidade. As panículas foram divididas em cinco porções equidistantes (proximal 1, proximal 2, intermediária, distal 1 e distal 2), iniciando-se a partir da inserção da panícula. Observou-se que existem diferenças entre as posições das sementes nas panículas relacionadas às características físicas, fisiológicas e sanitárias. As sementes localizadas nas extremidades das panículas apresentaram menor massa e potencial fisiológico. A maior ocorrência de Fusarium sp. foi verificada nas sementes da porção proximal 1, o que pode indicar uma possível causa na redução do potencial fisiológico. Sementes na posição intermediária apresentam maior massa, porcentagem de sementes íntegras e potencial fisiológico.

ABSTRACT Many factors may interfere in the quality of millet seeds; however, it is not known whether the location at different positions of the panicle may affect this quality. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of millet seeds produced at different positions of the panicle using uniformity, 1,000-seed mass, water content, X-ray, germination, seedling length, seedling dry matter mass, cold and health tests. The panicles were divided into five equidistant portions (proximal 1, proximal 2, intermediary, distal 1 and distal 2), starting from the panicle insertion. It was observed that there are differences among the positions of the seeds in the panicles related to the physical, physiological and health characteristics. The seeds located at the ends of the panicles presented a lower mass and physiological potential. The highest occurrence of Fusarium sp. was verified in the seeds from the proximal 1 portion, what might indicate a possible cause for the reduction in the physiological potential. Seeds from the intermediary portion present a higher mass, percentage of intact seeds and physiological potential.

ABSTRACT: In vitro techniques, with the purpose of conserving the genetic resources of plants, are fundamental to the feasibility of establishing germplasm banks and enabling the commercial production of micropropagated plants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of different spectra of light in in vitro germplasm conservation by slow grown storage of Heliconia Champneiana cv. Splash. Explants of heliconia in vitro were submitted to the following light treatments: CW (control white), B100 (100 % blue), R100 (100 % red) and R70B30 (70 % red/30 % blue), all with PFD = 25 μmol m2 s–1, maintained in vitro for two time periods, namely P1, 6 weeks and P2, twelve weeks, and were statistically evaluated after each interval with respect to: height, fresh weight, number and length of roots, number of leaves, and pseudostem diameter, in addition to the rate of acclimatization in percentage terms. Treatment B100 presented the lowest level of development in the two periods, and 100 % survival in acclimatization.

A produção de mudas é uma das etapas fundamentais para o cultivo do tomateiro e pode ser influenciada pela temperatura inicial de germinação. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito desse fator no desempenho de plântulas e mudas de tomate. Foram utilizados quatro lotes de sementes de tomate híbrido Mariana, submetidos aos testes de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado e condutividade elétrica para a avaliação do potencial fisiológico. Após a caracterização dos lotes, as sementes foram submetidas a diferentes temperaturas iniciais de germinação (20-30 alternada, 30, 33 e 35°C constantes) para determinação da curva de embebição e para análise de plântulas por meio do software SVIS®. Sementes submetidas às mesmas temperaturas foram destinadas à produção de mudas e o desempenho destas foi avaliado por meio da velocidade e porcentagem de emergência, altura e massa seca da parte aérea e das raízes. As temperaturas mais elevadas prejudicam o desenvolvimento inicial das plântulas, porém as mudas submetidas às diferentes temperaturas, aos 28 dias após a semeadura, estavam com desempenho semelhante.

Seedling production is an important step for the tomato production and can be influenced by the initial temperature of germination. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of this factor in the tomato germination and seedling growth. It was used four seed lots which were tested for germination, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity to evaluate the physiological potential. After lots characterization, seeds were exposed to initial germination temperatures (20-30, 30, 33 and 35°C) and were analyzed by the SVIS® software. The seedling performance was evaluated using the emergence speed index and percentage, height and dry weight of shoots and roots. In general, the higher temperatures decreased the seedlings development. However, 28 days after sowing, the seedlings growth was similar among temperatures.
