Abstract Photography is a genre that is quite recurrent in social life but has been relatively little studied in the school context. This proposal is based on the Base Nacional Comum Curricular, which recommends the inclusion of multiple semioses in the reading, writing and interpretation activities of students, who need to develop their ability to critically analyze what they read visually. Therefore, we seek to create proposals for the analysis of photographs in the classroom. With this, methodological support has been found in the categories of modalization. Through this, we have shown how photographs integrate a discursive context and cannot be read in a way that is dissociated from that context, that is, readers’ knowledge of the world is relevant to the process of producing meanings. Abstract Considering the assumption that the primary responsibility of educational institutions is to develop citizens, we understand that the discussion of sometimes controversial topics can contribute to the refinement of social relations. We argue that the animation genre can be an excellent resource to encourage this type of reflection in a playful and appealing way. Resumo Considerando a premissa de que a responsabilidade precípua das instituições escolares é a de formar cidadãos, entendemos que a discussão sobre temas como o da animação analisada nesta pesquisa pode contribuir para a qualificação das relações sociais, mesmo sendo assuntos que suscitem polêmicas. Nesse sentido, defendemos que o gênero videoanimação pode ser um excelente recurso para motivar esse tipo de reflexão, de modo lúdico e atraente. RESUMO: A efetividade das vacinas recombinantes vetorizadas para o controle da laringotraqueíte infecciosa (LTI) nas aves de uma região (Minas Gerais, Brasil) com aproximadamente 10 milhões de poedeiras foi avaliada em condições de campo, no período de 2014 a 2018. Durante este período, somente as vacinas recombinantes “turkey herpesvirus” (rHVT) ou “fowl poxvirus” (rFPV), que expressam antígenos do vírus da laringotraqueíte (Gallid herpesvirus-1; GaHV-1) foram utilizadas. Galinhas poedeiras (n=1.283), de oito diferentes granjas produtoras de ovos, foram individualmente amostradas e examinadas por monitoramento ativo e, na ocorrência de notificação de doença respiratória aos veterinários do serviço oficial, por monitoramento passivo. Exames clínicos, macroscópicos e histopatológicos foram realizados para o diagnóstico de LTI, bem como técnicas moleculares para a detecção e caracterização do DNA de GaHV-1 da traqueia e gânglio trigêmeo. As galinhas poedeiras pertenciam a lotes e granjas que usavam diferentes protocolos de vacinação (não vacinadas, uma dose ou tipo de vacina e duas doses ou tipos de vacina). Este é o primeiro longo estudo a campo sobre a efetividade das vacinas vetorizadas em uma região com população elevada de poedeiras de múltiplas idades. Utilizando vários métodos de diagnóstico, a ocorrência da infecção por GaHV-1 e a LTI clínica em poedeiras de uma região interditada do Brasil foi investigada. O número de galinhas positivas para o vírus GaHV-1 e para casos clínicos de LTI nas granjas foi menor quando todas as aves estavam vacinadas com, pelo menos, um tipo ou dose de vacina. Entretanto, a diferença na taxa de detecção da infecção por GaHV-1 foi significativa somente quando a comparação foi realizada entre granjas com aves vacinadas com duas doses e aves de granjas vacinadas com uma única dose de HVT-LT.

ABSTRACT: The effectiveness of vectored recombinant vaccines to control infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) in chickens from a region (State of Minas Gerais, Brazil) with ~10 million layers was evaluated under field conditions from 2014-2018. During this period, only recombinant turkey herpesvirus (rHVT) or fowl poxvirus (rFPV) vaccines that express antigens of infectious laryngotracheitis virus (Gallid herpesvirus-1; GaHV-1) were used. Layer chickens (n=1,283), from eight different egg-producing companies, were individually sampled and examined (active surveillance), and in instances when government poultry health veterinarians were notified due to respiratory disease (passive surveillance). Clinical, macroscopic, and histopathology examinations were performed to diagnose ILT as well as molecular techniques for the detection and characterization of the GaHV-1 DNA from the trachea and trigeminal ganglia (TG). The layer hens sampled and examined belonged to flocks and farms that used different vaccination protocols (non-vaccinated, single dose vaccination, and prime/boost vaccination). This is the first long-term field study of the effectiveness of ILT vectored vaccines in a high-density multiple age layer hen region. Using various diagnostic methods, the occurrence of GaHV-1 infection and ILT clinical disease in layer hens vaccinated with vectored recombinant vaccines in one quarantined region of Brazil were investigated. The number of ILTV positive chickens by PCR and ILT clinical disease cases was lower in farms when all chickens were vaccinated with at least one vaccine. However, the difference in the detection rates of GaHV-1 infection was significant only when compared farms with prime/boost and farms using single dose of HTV-LT.

ABSTRACT Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a neglected tropical disease caused by the Leishmania infantum parasite. The protozoan is able to infect several domestic and wild mammals. Since the first report on Leishmania spp. infection in horses in South America, leishmaniasis in equids has been highlighted in Brazil. A molecular epidemiological survey was carried out to verify the occurrence of Leishmania spp. DNA in horses and donkeys, in leishmaniases endemic areas in Sao Paulo State, Brazil. To this end, blood samples were obtained from 107 horses and 36 donkeys and subjected to DNA extraction followed by PCR targeting the ITS-1 region. Among the horses and donkeys, 1.87% (2/107) and 8.33% (3/36) were positive by PCR, respectively. The DNA sequencing of the ITS-1 amplification products confirmed L. infantum DNA in these animals. Our results suggest that horses and donkeys from non-VL and VL endemic areas of São Paulo State may be infected by the parasite.

ABSTRACT Radar Absorbing Materials (RAMs) are composite materials able to attenuate an incident electromagnetic wave. Usually, RAMs are made of a polymeric matrix and an electromagnetic absorbent filler, such as silicon carbide or carbon black. Several materials have been investigated as potential fillers, aiming to improve the Reflection Loss (RL) and absorption bandwidth broadening. In this paper, a composite made with silicone rubber and biochar was investigated as a sustainable porous carbon made with biomass waste. Five different composites were characterized, composed of 1 - 5 wt.% of biochar in the silicone rubber. Although the RL of pure biochar composites is not significant, it was demonstrated here how a biochar composite can improve the RL of a RAM material when it is applied as a double-layer structure. While the RL of a ferrite-based RAM with 2.0 mm thickness reaches -28 dB, a combination of this RAM with biochar composite reaches ~ -60 dB with the same thickness. The double-layer structure with 2.3 mm thickness can have an absorption bandwidth of 2.95 GHz over the X-band frequency range, and a structure with 2.6 mm thickness can reach a RL of ~ -76 dB. This demonstrates a sustainable, cheaper, and lighter material application (i.e., biochar), which is successfully used in the development of high-efficient electromagnetic shield or sensors.

RESUMO: Leishmania infantum é agente etiológico da leishmaniose canina. Por meio de análises parasitológicas e moleculares, a presença do parasita foi investigada em órgãos reprodutivos de cães machos e fêmeas. Amostras de tecidos dos órgãos reprodutivos de 8 cães machos e 16 fêmeas diagnosticados com leishmaniose foram avaliadas por histoquímica, imunohistoquímica e PCR. Apesar de não terem sido observadas lesões macroscópicas ou microscópicas nos órgãos reprodutivos desses cães, formas amastigotas de L. infantum foram observadas em amostras teciduais do testículo e útero. A PCR e o sequenciamento do DNA extraído desses tecidos revelaram sequências 100% idênticas a L. infantum depositadas no GenBank. Nossos resultados sugerem que os testículos e o útero podem abrigar o parasita, sem associação com lesões macroscópicas ou microscópicas, o que pode ter uma grande importância na transmissão venérea e vertical da leishmaniose entre cães.

ABSTRACT: Leishmania infantum causes canine leishmaniasis. Using parasitological and molecular analyses, we identified L. infantum in the reproductive organs of male and female dogs. Using histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and PCR, we examined tissue samples from the reproductive organs of 8 male dogs and 16 female dogs diagnosed with leishmaniasis. Despite the absence of macroscopic or microscopic lesions in these organs, we observed L. infantum amastigotes in tissue samples from the testis and the uterus. PCR and sequencing of these tissues revealed sequences that matched 100% with L. infantum DNA available at GenBank. The presence of L. infantum amastigotes and DNA in testicular and uterine tissue samples suggested that these organs can harbor the parasite without associated macroscopic or microscopic lesions, and this can be especially important in the vertical and venereal transmission of leishmaniasis in dogs.

Neste estudo avaliou-se a possibilidade da reutilização de um efluente vinícola (EV) tratado para rega de espécies ornamentais. Para tal, realizaram-se inicialmente testes de fitotoxicidade em sementes de Lepidium sativum e uma mistura de relva, sujeitas a concentrações crescentes de EV e um ensaio de rega em Petunia x atkinsiana com quatro tratamentos: EV sem diluição (EV100%), EV diluído (EV60%), EV com correção de pH (EVT) e controlo (EV0%). Após o ensaio, realizaram-se análises morfo-fisiológicas e bioquímicas. Os testes revelaram que as concentrações de EV potenciaram a germinação da mistura de relva, apesar de terem sido moderadamente fitotóxicas para L. sativum. Relativamente ao ensaio de rega em P. x atkinsiana, os tratamentos EV0% e EV100% destacaram-se positivamente em relação aos tratamentos EV60% e EVT no crescimento e anatomia foliar. Contudo, não ocorreram alterações nas concentrações foliares de pigmentos fotossintéticos e fenóis totais. Apesar do comprimento do sistema radicular e áreas radicular e foliar terem sido superiores nas plantas EV0%, não se registaram alterações na cor e no número de flores entre tratamentos. Estas caraterísticas visuais e estéticas são muito valorizadas comercialmente em espécies ornamentais. Portanto, conclui-se que a reutilização de EVs na rega de petúnias poderá ser uma alternativa sustentável.

This study evaluated the possibility of reuse treated winery wastewater (EV) for the irrigation of ornamental species. For that, initially phytotoxicity tests were made in seeds of Lepidium sativum and a grass mixture exposed to increasing concentrations of EV and an irrigation experiment in Petunia x atkinsiana with four treatments: winery wastewater without dilution (EV100%), diluted EV (EV60%), EV with corrected pH (EVT) and control (EV0%). After the irrigation experiment, morphological and biochemical analyses were performed. The tests revealed that EV potentiated germination of grass mixture seeds, although it was moderately phytotoxic to L. sativum. In the irrigation experiment in P. x atkinsiana, the EV0% and EV100% treatments stood out positively in relation to EV60% and EVT treatments in growth and leaf anatomy. However, there were no changes in the foliar concentrations of photosynthetic pigments and total phenols. Although length of the root system and root and leaf areas were higher in EV0% plants, there were no changes in colour and number of flowers in treatments. These visual and aesthetic characteristics are valued commercially in ornamental species, so it was concluded that the reuse of EVs for irrigation of petunias may be a sustainable alternative.

Resumo Leishmania spp. são agentes causadores das leishmanioses em humanos e em animais, gerando grande impacto à saúde pública. Este estudo objetivou detectar a circulação de Leishmania spp. em área não endêmica para leishmaniose visceral de São Paulo, Brasil. Foram extraídas amostras de DNA de 100 novilhas da cidade de Pirassununga. Estas amostras foram amplificadas com os iniciadores específicos para tripanosomatídeos Internal Transcriber Spacer 1 (ITS1). Os ensaios revelaram uma amostra com bandas entre 300 e 350 pares de base (pb). A amostra demonstrou 100% de identidade com Leishmania infantum (314 pb). Os resultados sugerem que o gado pode ser infectado por L. infantum no Brasil.

Abstract Leishmania spp. are important agents of human and animal leishmaniases that have an important impact on public health. In this study, we aimed to detect the circulation of Leishmania spp. in cattle from a visceral leishmaniasis non-endemic area of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. DNA was extracted from blood samples from 100 heifers in the municipality of Pirassununga and was amplified using primers specific for the first internal transcriber spacer (ITS1), to assess the presence of trypanosomatids. The assays revealed that one sample presented bands of between 300 and 350 base pairs. In GenBank, this sample matched 100% with Leishmania infantum (314 base pairs). The results suggest that cattle can be infected by Leishmania infantum in Brazil.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar testes moleculares usados para diagnosticar Leishmania spp., em cães apresentando diferentes estágios de infecção. Amostras de sangue e suabe conjuntival (SC) de cães classificados em quatro estágios clínicos foram submetidas a diferentes PCRs (primers 13A/13B, MC1/MC2, LITSR/L5.8S e LEISH-1/LEISH-2). Para o estudo, 22,3% (48/215) dos cães foram classificados como sem sinais clínicos, 67,5% (145/215) estágio I (doença leve), 7,0% (15/215) estágio II (doença moderada) e 3,2% (7/215) estágio III (doença grave). Os resultados mostraram que, em amostras de sangue, 13A/13B detectou número significativamente maior de cães positivos no estágio I (25/145) e no total (42/215) (p≤0,05). No entanto, quando as amostras de SC foram testadas, nenhuma diferença foi observada (p>0,05). Por outro lado, no sangue, MC1/MC2 detectou significativamente menos cães positivos sem sinais clínicos (0/48), em estágio I (0/145) e no total (1/215) (p≤0,05). Da mesma forma, em amostras de SC, MC1/MC2 também apresentou menor detecção (1/215) (p≤0,05). Assim, a PCR em amostras de sangue com 13A/13B tem maior capacidade de detectar cães positivos, principalmente no início da doença do que outros primers, e o par de primers MC1/MC2 não é uma boa escolha para detectar infecção por Leishmania infantum em cães.

Abstract The aim of this study was to compare molecular tests used to diagnose Leishmania spp. in dogs with different stages of infection. Blood and conjunctival swab (CS) samples from dogs classified in four clinical stages were subjected to different PCR protocols (13A/13B, MC1/MC2, LITSR/L5.8S and LEISH-1/LEISH-2 primers). To the study, 22.3% (48/215) of dogs were classified as without clinical signs, 67.5% (145/215) stage I (mild disease), 7.0% (15/215) stage II (moderate disease) and 3.2% (7/215) stage III (severe disease). The results showed that in blood samples, 13A/13B detected a significant higher number of positive dogs in stage I (25/145) and in total (42/215) (p≤0.05). However, when CS samples were tested, no difference was observed (p>0.05). On the other hand, in blood samples, MC1/MC2 detected significantly fewer positive dogs classified as without clinical signs (0/48), in stage I (0/145) and in total (1/215) (p≤0.05). Likewise, in CS samples, this primers showed also lower detection (1/215) (p≤0.05). So than, we can conclude that PCR on blood samples with 13A/13B primers has greater capacity to detect positive dogs, mainly at the initial of clinical disease than do other primers and MC1/MC2 are not a good choice to detect Leishmania infantum infection in dogs.

RESUMO: O presente estudo investigou a circulação de metapneumovírus aviário em aves silvestres no Brasil. Para tanto, 131 amostras de 366 suabes orofaringeanos ou cloacais coletados de 18 espécies de aves foram testadas individualmente ou na forma de pools por RT-PCR. As amostras detectadas por RT-PCR foram selecionadas para sequenciamento. Treze (9,9%) das amostras foram detectadas por RT-PCR tendo o gene N como alvo; destas, quatro foram sequenciadas com sucesso. Resultados do sequenciamento mostraram alta identidade com o aMPV de subtipo A. Nossos resultados confirmam a circulação de aMPV subtipo A em aves silvestres no Brasil mesmo cinco anos após sua última detecção.

ABSTRACT: The present study investigated the circulation of avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) in wild birds in Brazil. To do so, 131 samples from 366 oropharyngeal or cloacal swabs collected from 18 species of birds were tested individually or in pools by RT-PCR. Samples detected by RT-PCR were selected for DNA sequencing. Thirteen (9.9%) samples were detected by the RT-PCR targeting the N gene and four out of 13 samples were sequenced. Sequencing results showed a high identity with the aMPV subtype A. Our results confirm the circulation of the aMPV subtype A in wild birds in Brazil even five years after its last detection.

RESUMO O presente artigo busca caracterizar o papel de boletins publicados pela Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação (ANPEd) para a qualificação do debate em educação. Para tal, elegemos como objeto de análise 10 boletins publicados pela ANPEd nos anos 2018 e 2019. Foi possível constatar que a associação demonstra, na organização dos boletins, um enfrentamento ético e político às questões que dizem respeito ao contexto da educação brasileira. Nesse posicionamento, enquanto ato pelo qual se responsabiliza perante a educação brasileira, os boletins configuram-se em uma abordagem que, por meio de enunciados que dialogam com saberes, práticas e dizeres, ultrapassa a dimensão de divulgar e/ou informar. Isso representa uma concepção do fazer acadêmico como um compromisso indissociável entre a produção de saberes especializados, o diálogo desses saberes com outros saberes produzidos e circulantes no interior da sociedade e as fronteiras, no âmbito educacional, entre o conhecer e o agir.

ABSTRACT This article aims to characterize the role of bulletins published by the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Education (ANPEd) for the qualification of the debate in education. In order to accomplish that goal, we have chosen 10 bulletins published by ANPEd in the years 2018 and 2019 as an object of analysis. It was possible to verify that the association demonstrates, in the organization of the bulletins, an ethical and political confrontation to the issues that concern the context of Brazilian education. From this point of view, as an act for which it is accountable to Brazilian education, the bulletins are an approach that, through utterances that dialogue with knowledge, practices and sayings, goes beyond the dimension of divulgation and/or informing. This represents a conception of academic practice as an inseparable commitment between the production of specialized knowledge, the dialogue of these knowledges with other knowledge produced and circulating within society and the borders, in the educational sphere, between knowing and acting.

RESUMEN El presente artículo busca caracterizar el papel de los boletines publicados por la Asociación Nacional de Estudios de Posgrado e Investigación en Educación (ANPEd) para la calificación del debate en educación. Para tal, elegimos como objeto de análisis 10 boletines publicados por la ANPEd en los años 2018 y 2019. Fue posible constatar que la asociación demuestra, en la organización de los boletines, un enfrentamiento ético y político a las cuestiones que se refieren al contexto de la educación brasileña. En este posicionamiento, en cuanto acto por el cual se responsabiliza ante la educación brasileña, los boletines se configuran en un abordaje, que por medio de enunciados que dialogan con saberes, prácticas y palabras, sobrepasa la dimensión de divulgar y/o informar. Eso representa una concepción del hacer académico como un compromiso indisociable entre la producción de conocimiento especializado, el diálogo de esos saberes con otros saberes producidos y circulantes en el interior de la sociedad y las fronteras, en el ámbito educativo, entre el conocer y el actuar.

RESUMO: O estudo objetivou verificar a ocorrência de Leishmania spp. e Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum em cavalos de uma região endêmica para leishmaniose visceral do Brasil. Amostras de DNA de sangue e suabe conjuntival (SC) foram testadas pela PCR e pela Reação de Imunofluorescência Indireta (RIFI). Embora nenhum cavalo estivesse clinicamente doente, animais infectados por Leishmania spp. e L. (L.) infantum foram encontrados em Ilha Solteira/SP. Dos 40 cavalos, 100% (40/40) foram positivos pela PCR de sangue, 90% (36/40) pela PCR de SC, e 2,5% (01/40) no sorodiagnóstico, pela RIFI. Seis desses 40 cavalos foram positivos para L. (L.) infantum pela PCR de sangue. O sequenciamento direto e a análise dos amplicons resultaram em uma sequência para análise evolutiva. Os resultados indicam a presença de Leishmania spp. e L. (L.) infantum infectando cavalos saudáveis no Brasil. A presença de DNA de Leishmania spp. and L. (L.) infantum em cavalos saudáveis sugere que eles podem ser importantes reservatórios desses parasitas, um achado altamente relevante para a vigilância epidemiológica das doenças que causam.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to verify the occurrence of Leishmania spp. and Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum in horses from a visceral leishmaniasis endemic area in Brazil. DNA samples from blood and conjunctival swab (CS) were tested by PCR and Indirect Immunofluorescence Antibody Test (IFAT). Although none of the horses was clinically sick, animals infected by Leishmania spp. were found and some could be characterized as infected by L. (L.) infantum. From 40 horses, 100% of the animals were positive by blood PCR, 90% (36/40) by CS PCR, and 2.5% (01/40) in serodiagnosis, by IFAT. Six from these 40 horses were L. (L.) infantum positive by blood PCR. Direct sequencing and analysis of amplicons resulted in a sequence to evolutionary analysis. Results indicate the presence of Leishmania spp. and L. (L.) infantum infecting healthy horses in Brazil. The presence of Leishmania spp. and L. (L.) infantum DNA in asymptomatic horses suggests that they can be important reservoirs of these parasites, a highly relevant finding for the epidemiological surveillance of the diseases they cause.

Introdução: O desenvolvimento sexual da criança é um processo fisiológico, influenciado pela idade, pelo que vivencia e lhe é ensinado. Assim, quem participa ativamente na sua educação deve estar consciencializado da pertinência do tema. Objetivos: Caracterizar a educação sexual (ES) realizada a crianças de seis e sete anos. Material e métodos: Estudo de base comunitária, observacional e transversal dirigido a pais de crianças com 6/7 anos de idade. Aplicou-se um questionário de autopreenchimento, com questões sociodemográficas e de caracterização da ES das crianças, a partir das quais foi efetuada uma escala com o objetivo de avaliar a envolvência dos pais na ES dos filhos, que foi tanto maior, quanto maior for a cotação obtida (máximo 33). A analise estatística dos dados utilizou o programa informático Statistical Package for the Social Sciences® (SPSS), versão 22.0. Resultados: Obtiveram-se questionários de 127 pais, com idade média de 38 anos e predomínio de respostas maternas. Procuraram obter conhecimentos acerca da sexualidade dos seus filhos apenas 22% dos pais, e destes 1/3 fê-lo junto de um médico. Apesar de 91,2% dos pais referirem sentir-se confortáveis para falar de sexualidade com os seus filhos, 62,9% nunca o fez, principalmente por considerarem ser precoce. Quando abordada, a iniciativa partiu maioritariamente da criança. A reprodução humana e as diferenças entre sexos foram abordadas, exclusivamente em casa, em 55,8% e 35,5% dos casos, respetivamente. Foi iniciativa dos pais a abordagem de comportamentos de exploração do corpo adequados aos domínios público/privado (88,5%) e de comportamentos inadequados por terceiros à exploração do corpo da criança (97%). A cotação média da escala que traduz a ES das crianças e a envolvência parental foi 13,7±5,18, havendo diferença entre a cotação obtida pelas mães (14,5±5,3) e pais (12,6±4,9) (p<0,05). Conclusões: Os resultados evidenciam que os pais não priorizam esta vertente do desenvolvimento infantil, aspeto reiterado pela abordagem pouco frequente de temas relativos à ES no seio familiar, por iniciativa dos pais.

Introduction: The child’s sexual development is a physiological process, influenced by children’s age, children’s experiences and for what is taught to them. So, those who actively participate in children education should be aware of the relevance of sexual education approach. Objectives: Characterize sexual education of children aged six and seven years. Methods: An observational, cross-section and community-based study was performed and the targets were parents of children aged six and seven years. A self-administered questionnaire was applied addressing sociodemographic data and characterization of children sexual education. A score was built, by questions summation, with the aim of evaluating child knowledge about sexual education, and parental involvement in this education, which was higher, as higher the score obtained. All statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences® (SPSS), 22.0. software package for Windows. Results: We obtained questionnaires from 127 parents, with a mean age of 38 years and mothers’ predominance. Twenty-two per cent of parents sought knowledge about their child sexuality, and one third obtained doctor’s information. Although 91,2% referred to feel comfortable to approach sexuality with their children, 62,9% never did it, mainly because they considered to be too early. When sexual education was performed at home, the questions were raised mostly by children’s initiative. Human reproduction and gender differences were addressed exclusively at home in 55,8% and 35,5%, respectively. Parents initiative to approach adequate body behaviour in public/private domains and body inappropriate behaviour by others were made in 88,5% and 97% of cases, respectively. The average of score of parents’ sex education performance was 13,7 and there were differences between mothers (14,5±5,3) and fathers (12,6±4,9) assessment (p <0.05). Conclusions: The results show that parents do not prioritize this aspect of child development, which is reiterate by infrequent approach of issues related to sexual education by parents’ initiative.

Introdução: O atraso pubertário é uma patologia frequente na consulta de Endocrinologia. Várias doenças podem estar subjacentes a este problema, sendo a doença inflamatória intestinal, mais concretamente a doença de Crohn, uma das doenças crónicas mais associadas. Caso clínico: Adolescente, sexo feminino, de 16 anos, sem antecedentes patológicos relevantes, referenciada à consulta de Pediatria por atraso pubertário com amenorreia primária e má evolução estaturo-ponderal. Inicialmente sem qualquer sintomatologia digestiva. Posteriormente iniciou queixas gastrointestinais, tendo sido submetida a estudo analítico, endoscópico e radiológico, que permitiu o diagnóstico de doença de Crohn com atividade moderada-grave. Iniciou-se tratamento de indução de remissão com corticosteroides e tratamento de manutenção com infliximab, com melhoria significativa dos sintomas e evolução pubertária favorável. Discussão/Conclusão: Pretende-se relembrar a doença de Crohn como uma das causas de atraso de crescimento e pubertário, salientando-se a necessidade de um diagnóstico precoce com instituição atempada de terapêutica, de modo a ser possível uma evolução pubertária favorável.

Background: Pubertal delay is a common condition in the Endocrinology clinic. Many diseases can underlie this phenomenon, being inflammatory bowel disease, namely Crohn ’s disease, one of the most commonly related chronic diseases. Case report: Sixteen-years-old female adolescent, with no previous medical history, was referred to the Pediatric clinic because of pubertal delay with primary amenorrhea and failure to thrive. She had initially no digestive symptoms. She subsequently developed gastrointestinal complaints. Laboratorial, endoscopic and radiological studies that allowed the diagnosis of moderate to severe Crohn’s disease. Discussion/Conclusion: We aimed to aware Crohn’s disease as one of the causes of pubertal and growth delay, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and therapy, in order to reach a favorable pubertal development.
