ABSTRACT Nitrogen (N) is essential to the fertilization of coffee. The fertilizer most used to meet this demand is urea, although it has high rates of N loss due mainly to ammonia volatilization. To reduce this loss, fertilizers with increased efficiency have emerged. Thus, the aim was to select the most appropriate nonlinear regression model to describe N loss attributable to ammonia volatilization in slow- and controlled-release fertilizers applied to coffee plants and to compare the different fertilizers based on the parameters of the selected model. The data studied are controlled-release fertilizers: urea + sulfur + polymer (U+S+P), urea + plastic resin (U+PR), urea + polymer insoluble in water (U+PIW) and slow-release fertilizer: urea formaldehyde (UF) applied to coffee. The Gompertz, Brody, and von Bertalanffy Logistics models were fit by the least squares method. The goodness of fit was assessed using the adjusted coefficient of determination, mean absolute deviation, and Akaike's information criterion. The von Bertalanffy model was the most appropriate for describing the data in most cases. After selecting the best model for the means, the parameters of the von Bertalanffy model were estimated again for each repetition of treatments. With the repetitions of the parameter estimates of these models, the F test of analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test were applied. In the F test, p < 0.05 for all parameters. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar as curvas de crescimento de acúmulo de matéria seca total (MST) dos híbridos de milho P30F33 e GNZ2004, por meio de modelos não lineares. Os modelos utilizados foram: Brody, Gompertz, logístico, Meloun I, Meloun II, Michaelis-Menten, Michaelis-Menten modificado, Mitscherlich, Richards, Schnute, von Bertalanffy e Weibull. Para estimar os parâmetros, foram utilizados o método de mínimos quadrados e o algoritmo de convergência de Gauss-Newton. Abstract The objective of this work was to study the growth curves of total dry matter (TDM) accumulation of the P30F33 and GNZ2004 maize hybrids using nonlinear models. The used models were: Brody, Gompertz, logistic, Meloun I, Meloun II, Michaelis-Menten, modified Michaelis-Menten, Mitscherlich, Richards, Schnute, von Bertalanffy, and Weibull. To estimate the parameters, the least squares method and the Gauss-Newton convergence algorithm were used. The adjusted coefficient of determination, the residual standard deviation, and the Akaike information criterion were used as criteria to evaluate the goodness of fit of the models. The Gauss-Newton method did not converge for 8 out of the 12 models studied. The Gompertz, logistic, von Bertalanffy, and Weibull models were considered appropriate for fitting the dry matter accumulation of the evaluated maize hybrids. The estimated TDM was 34,700 and 31,980 kg ha−1 for GNZ2004 and P30F33, respectively. The maximum daily gain in TDM was 483 and 381 kg ha−1, respectively, reached at 83 days after emergence, with TDM stabilization at 121 and 129 days after emergence. The logistic model is the best one to describe the TDM accumulation of the GNZ2004 and P30F33 maize hybrids. Resumo Os frutos de amora-preta pertencem ao gênero Rubus, são frutos mais cultivados em clima moderado, no verão, com pouca luminosidade e baixa temperatura no inverno. Esses frutos têm por característica perecerem de forma rápida após a colheita, e os modelos de regressão, mais especificamente, os não lineares, de crescimento sigmoide simples ou duplo, são mais recomendados para se modelar o crescimento de seres vivos. Diversos autores utilizam esses modelos, levando em consideração apenas os dados médios dos indivíduos em estudo; contudo, não levam em consideração a variabilidade existente entre eles. Uma forma de captar melhor a variabilidade existente entre os indivíduos é utilizando os modelos não lineares de efeitos mistos que, por definição, combinam a parte fixa e aleatória no mesmo modelo. Os dados utilizados, neste trabalho, foram o diâmetro e o comprimentodos frutos de amora-preta, cultivar Choctaw. Os efeitos aleatórios dos modelos foramtestados nos parâmetros, com algumas etapas, a fim de chegar ao modelo mais adequado. Abstract Blackberry fruits belong to the genus Rubus, are fruits more cultivated in temperate climate in the summer, with low luminosity and low temperature in the winter. These fruits have as characteristic the quickperishingafter harvest and regression models, more specifically, nonlinear models, single or double sigmoid growth curve, are more recommended to model the growth of living beings. Several authors have used these models, considering only the average data of individuals under study; however, they do not consider the variability between them. One way to better capture the variability between individuals is by using mixed-effects nonlinear models that, by definition, combine the fixed and random part in the same model. Data used in this work were diameter and length of ‘Choctaw’ blackberry fruits, . The random effects of models were tested on parameters, with some steps, in order to reach the most appropriate model. For fixed-effects models, the least squares method was used, and for mixed models, the restricted likelihood was used. ABSTRACT. The study aimed to evaluate performance and growth curves of broilers fed different nutritional relations. A total of 1,440 Cobb-500 male day-old chicks were assigned to eight treatments in a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial arrangement with six replicates of 30 birds each. The main factors were nutritional density (control and high), lysine source (HCl and sulfate), and calcium pidolate (presence and absence). Analyses were made for body weight gain (BWG), and feed conversion rate (FCR) at 21, and 42 days of age. The growth curves were adjusted by weighing a bird per plot every three days. Data for BWG were tested by ANOVA to evaluate the effects of treatments and their interactions at 5% significance, and the Gompertz model was adjusted by NLS. Birds fed a high nutritional density had higher BWG and lower FCR. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar os principais modelos lineares e não lineares usados para descrever curvas de lactação e avaliar a não linearidade dos modelos não lineares, para obter o modelo mais adequado para a descrição das curvas de lactação da raça Girolando. Foram utilizados dados de 165 lactações de 89 vacas 3/4 Holandesas + 1/4 Gir, tendo-se calculado a produção média a cada 20 dias até 310 dias de lactação. Foram comparados 17 modelos de curvas de lactação disponíveis na literatura. A seleção do melhor modelo foi feita com base nas medidas de curvatura de Bates & Watts, no vício de Box, no coeficiente de determinação ajustado, no critério de informação de Akaike e no desvio-padrão residual. O modelo linear de Cobuci estimou um pico de produção de 16,7 kg aos 40 dias de lactação, enquanto o modelo não linear de Wood estimou um pico de produção de 16,8 kg aos 41 dias de lactação e persistência de 6,82. As medidas de não linearidade foram as mais adequadas para selecionar o modelo não linear mais adequado para a descrição das curvas de lactação. Para descrever as curvas de lactação da raça Girolando, o modelo linear mais adequado é o de Cobuci e o não linear é o de Wood.

Abstract The objective of this work was to compare the main linear and nonlinear models used to describe lactation curves and to evaluate the nonlinearity of the nonlinear models, in order to obtain the most adequate model to describe the lactation curves of the Girolando breed. Data from 165 lactations of 89 3/4 Holstein + 1/4 Gyr cows were used, and average yield was calculated every 20 days up to 310 days of lactation. Seventeen models of lactation curves available in the literature were compared. The selection of the best model was based on the curvature measures of Bates & Watts, the bias of Box, adjusted coefficient of determination, Akaike’s information criterion, and residual standard deviation. The linear model of Cobuci estimated a yield peak of 16.7 kg at 40 days of lactation, whereas the nonlinear model of Wood estimated a yield peak of 16.8 kg at 41 days of lactation and a persistence of 6.82. Nonlinearity measures were the most appropriate for selecting the most suitable nonlinear model for the description of lactation curves. To describe the lactation curves of the Girolando breed, the most suitable linear model is that of Cobuci and the nonlinear model is that of Wood.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o ajuste dos modelos Brody, Logístico e Platô de resposta quadrática aos dados de perímetros torácico e de canela em equinos Mangalarga Marchador obtidos pelo método transversal, a fim de selecionar o melhor modelo e predizer sobre o crescimento e a maturidade de machos e fêmeas desta raça. Foram utilizados dados de 230 equinos de seis a 176 meses de idade que foram divididos por sexo e em 16 classes de idade. Os modelos estudados foram comparados segundo os avaliadores de qualidade: coeficiente de determinação ajustado ( R adj 2) e desvio padrão residual (DPR), utilizando-se o software estatístico R. Os perímetros torácicos obtidos pelos modelos variaram de 172,06 a 181,50 cm (Brody), 172,51 a 181,89 cm (Logístico) e 183,09 a 177,67 cm (Platô) para fêmeas e machos, respectivamente. Para o perímetro de canela os valores variaram de 18,18 a 19,33 cm (Brody), 18,11 a 19,41 cm (Logístico) e 18,70 a 19,40 cm (Platô) para fêmeas e machos, respectivamente. O modelo logístico é mais indicado para expressar o crescimento em perímetro torácico de machos e fêmeas da raça Mangalarga Marchador. Já para a variável perímetro de canela, o modelo mais indicado para os machos foi o modelo Logístico e para as fêmeas o modelo de Brody.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the suitability of the Brody, logistic, and quadratic response plateau models to describe chest and cannon girth data obtained cross-sectionally in Mangalarga Marchador horses, in order to select the best model and predict the growth and maturity of males and females of this breed. Data were collected from 230 horses aged 6 to 176 months, divided by sex and age (16 age classes). The studied models were compared according to each quality evaluator by computing the adjusted coefficient of determination ( R adj 2) and residual standard deviation (RSD) with R statistical software. The chest girths obtained by the models ranged from 172.06 (males) to 181.50 cm (females) (Brody), 172.51 (males) to 181.89 cm (females) (logistic), and 177.67 (males) to 183.09 cm (females) (plateau). For cannon girth, the values were 18.18 (females) to 19.33 cm (males) (Brody), 18.11 (females) to 19.41 cm (males) (logistic), and 18.70 (females) to 19.40 cm (males) (plateau). The logistic model was best suited to describe the growth in chest girth of male and female Mangalarga Marchador horses. For cannon girth growth, the model best suited for males was the logistic model, and the one best suited for females was the Brody model.

RESUMO: Na modelagem de curvas de crescimento deve-se considerar que dados longitudinais podem apresentar autocorrelação residual, sendo que, se tal característica não é considerada, os resultados e inferências podem ser comprometidos. A abordagem bayesiana, que considera informações à priori sobre o fenômeno em estudo tem se mostrado eficiente na estimação de parâmetros. No entanto, como geralmente não é possível obter as distribuições marginais de forma analítica, faz-se necessário a utilização de algum método, como o método de reamostragem ponderada, para gerar amostras dessas distribuições e assim obter uma aproximação para as mesmas. Dentre as vantagens desse método, destaca-se a geração de amostras independentes e o fato de não ser necessário avaliar convergência. Diante desse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi apresentar a modelagem não linear bayesiana do crescimento em altura de plantas do cafeeiro, irrigadas e não irrigadas (NI), considerando a autocorrelação residual e os modelos não lineares Logístico, Brody, von Bertalanffy e Richards. Em vista dos resultados, verificou-se que, para as plantas NI, o DIC e CPOc, indicaram que, dentre os modelos avaliados, o modelo Logístico é o que melhor descreve o crescimento em altura do cafeeiro ao longo do tempo. E, para as plantas irrigadas, esses mesmos critérios indicaram o modelo Brody. Assim, o crescimento da planta do cafeeiro não irrigado e irrigado seguiram padrões de crescimento distintos, a altura do cafeeiro não irrigado apresentou crescimento sigmoidal com taxa máxima de crescimento aos 726 dias após o plantio, já o cafeeiro irrigado inicia seu desenvolvimento com altas taxas de crescimento que vão diminuindo aos poucos com o tempo.

ABSTRACT: When modeling growth curves, it should be considered that longitudinal data may show residual autocorrelation, and, if this characteristic is not considered, the results and inferences may be compromised. The Bayesian approach, which considers priori information about studied phenomenon has been shown to be efficient in estimating parameters. However, as it is generally not possible to obtain marginal distributions analytically, it is necessary to use some method, such as the weighted resampling method, to generate samples of these distributions and thus obtain an approximation. Among the advantages of this method, stand out the generation of independent samples and the fact that it is not necessary to evaluate convergence. In this context, the objective of this work research was: to present the Bayesian nonlinear modeling of the coffee tree height growth, irrigated and non-irrigated (NI), considering the residual autocorrelation and the nonlinear Logistic, Brody, von Bertalanffy and Richard models. Among the results, it was found that, for NI plants, the Deviance Information Criterion (DIC) and the Criterion of density Predictive Ordered (CPO), indicated that, among the evaluated models, the Logistic model is the one that best describes the height growth of the coffee tree over time. For irrigated plants, these same criteria indicated the Brody model. Thus, the growth of the non-irrigated and irrigated coffee tree followed different growth patterns, the height of the non-irrigated coffee tree showed sigmoidal growth with maximum growth rate at 726 days after planting and the irrigated coffee tree starts its development with high growth rates that gradually decrease over time.

Resumo Objetivou-se descrever a curva de crescimento de pêssegos “Aurora 1”, utilizando dados de altura e diâmetro do fruto ao longo do tempo, através de modelos sigmoidais difásicos contruídos a partir de oito combinações dos modelos: Brody, Gompertz e Logístico. Os dados deste estudo foram obtidos de um experimento realizado em 2005, no município de Vista Alegre do Alto, São Paulo, Brasil. Os parâmetros dos modelos foram ajustados pelo método de mínimos quadrados, utilizando o algoritmo de Gauss-Newton, implementados no software R. Os pressupostos de normalidade, homogeneidade e independência dos resíduos foram verificados com base nos testes de Shapiro-Wilk, Breush e Pagan e Durbin-Watson, respectivamente. A comparação dos ajustes dos modelos foi verificada de acordo com o critério de informação de Akaike corrigido (AICc), desvio padrão residual (DPR), índice de ajuste da assíntota (IA) e medidas de não linearidade. Todos os modelos ajustados para ambas as variáveis altura e diâmetro do fruto atenderam às pressuposições de normalidade, independência e homocedasticidade dos erros. Além disso, todos eles apresentam boa qualidade de ajuste aos dados de altura e diâmetro do fruto, visto que apresentaram valores de IA próximos de um e baixos valores do DPR e de medidas de não linearidade. Contudo, o modelo duplo Gompertz (GG) e o modelo Logístico + Gompertz (LG) apresentaram, respectivamente, a melhor qualidade de ajuste aos dados de altura e diâmetro do fruto, em relação aos demais modelos avaliados. Conclui-se que todos os modelos sigmoidais difásicos avaliados apresentaram bom ajuste aos dados de altura e diâmetro e podem ser utilizados para a descrição da curva de crescimento de pêssegos “Aurora-1”, segundo os critérios de qualidade de ajuste. No entanto, é importante destacar que os modelos GG e LG apresentaram a melhor qualidade de ajuste e podem ser preferidos para descrever o crescimento em altura e diâmetro dos frutos de pêssego “Aurora 1”, respectivamente, com crescimento máximo esperado próximos de 63 mm de altura e 48 mm de diâmetro.

Abstract The aim of this study was to describe the growth curve of “Aurora 1” peaches using fruit height and diameter data over time through diphasic sigmoidal models constructed from eight combinations of the following models: Brody, Gompertz and Logistic. Data were obtained from an experiment carried out in 2005 in the municipality of Vista Alegre do Alto, São Paulo, Brazil. The parameters of models were adjusted by the least squares method using the Gauss-Newton algorithm implemented in the R software. Assumptions of normality, homogeneity and independence of residues were verified based on Shapiro-Wilk, Breush and Pagan and Durbin-Watson tests, respectively. The goodness of fit of models was verified according to the corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc), residual standard deviation (RSD), asymptote adjustment index (AI) and nonlinearity measures. All models adjusted for both fruit height and diameter variables met the assumptions of normality, independence and homoscedasticity of errors. In addition, all of them present good quality of fit to fruit height and diameter data, since they presented AI values close to one and low RSD values and non-linearity measures. However, the double Gompertz (GG) and the Logistic + Gompertz (LG) models presented, respectively, the best quality of fit to fruit height and diameter data in relation to the other models. It could be concluded that all diphasic sigmoidal models evaluated showed good fit to height and diameter data and can be used to describe the growth curve of “Aurora-1” peaches, according to goodness of fit criteria. However, it is important to highlight that GG and LG models presented the best quality of fit and can be selected to describe the height and diameter growth of “Aurora 1” peach fruits, respectively, with maximum expected growth close to 63 mm in height and 48 mm in diameter.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of the following six body weight (BW) estimation methods in Campolina (CAM) horses: A - weight tape placed at three different positions on the animal’s thorax; B - Crevat and Quetelet’s formula; C - Hall’s formula; D - Hintz and Griffiths’s table; E - Santos’s table; and F - Cintra’s formula. A total of 380 CAM horses were separated according to sex, age class, and gestational stage and evaluated. To determine their accuracy, weights measured on a scale and weight estimates of the six methods were compared by paired t-test, mean prediction error (MPE), and coefficient of determination (R2), using R software. The predictive capacity of method F was lower in the 6-12 months age class, so this formula is not indicated. The BW was overestimated compared with the actual weight by methods A (with weight tape placed in position 3) and B and underestimated by method C. Methods D and E accurately estimated BW of CAM horses. Correction factors are required to accurately estimate BW in this breed using methods B and C. Method A with the weight tape placed in position 2 is the most accurate for predicting BW, including pregnant female horses, and can, therefore, be considered the most suitable method for estimating BW of CAM horses.

Abstract Fertilization in the seedling production phase is essential to form quality seedlings. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the appropriate doses of two slow-release fertilizers (SRF1 and SRF2) and their nutrient leaching behavior. For this, five different doses of fertilizers were tested. 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 kg m-³. The height, stem diameter, leaf area, shoot dry mass, root system dry mass, total dry mass, and the Dickson Quality Index were measured, and for each variable the maximum dose of technical efficiency was determined. In addition, was evaluated the electrical conductivity, over time, for determinate the leaching of the nutrients. All the variables had satisfactory growth for field planting. However, the SRF2 resulted in greater seedling growth and also experienced less nutrient loss by leaching, when compared with the SRF1. The both fertilizers could be utilized to seedlings production, at doses of 4.00 kg m-³.

Resumo O coco-anão-verde é um fruto com grande interesse econômico, pois se aproveitam de todos os seus componentes, com o principal interesse na água. É uma cultura de trópicos úmidos, largamente produzido no Nordeste brasileiro, sendo uma importante fonte de renda para a região. O estudo da fenologia desse tipo de fruto pode ser de extrema importância, porém são poucos os trabalhos encontrados na literatura. Os modelos de regressão, com destaque para os não lineares de crescimento, podem ser de grande valia para entender como o crescimento do fruto ocorre. A escassez de trabalhos dessa natureza pode estar ligada a algumas dificuldades na estimação dos parâmetros dos modelos não lineares, como atribuir valores iniciais para o processo iterativo. Contornando essa dificuldade, para a análise de regressão, linear ou não, diversas etapas precisam ser respeitadas para garantir a validade de suas informações. É possível retirar-se diversas informações dos modelos não lineares de crescimento, como o valor assintótico, a taxa de crescimento e os pontos críticos (ponto de aceleração máxima, ponto de inflexão, ponto de desaceleração máxima e ponto de desaceleração assintótico). Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever as etapas da analise de regressão não linear e estimar os pontos críticos das curvas de crescimento de coco-anão-verde. Após os ajustes iniciais, o único pressuposto não atendido foi o de independência, sendo adicionado o termo autorregressivo de primeira ordem. Novamente foram ajustados os modelos e todos os parâmetros foram significativos, com ambos os modelos, Gompertz e Logístico, se ajustando bem aos dados, tendo uma ligeira vantagem para o modelo Logístico com melhores valores dos critérios de qualidade de ajuste. Com o valor máximo esperado para DEL e DELMP sendo 21,4037 cm e 21,5478 cm, respectivamente. As abscissas e ordenadas dos pontos críticos foram estimados, com valores que podem ajudar ao produtor a tomar decisões mais objetivas a respeito do momento adequado para colheita dos frutos de coco-anão-verde, considerando os mais diversos usos desse tipo de cultura.

Abstract ‘Green Dwarf’ coconut is a fruit of great economic interest, since all its components are used, in addition to water, its main component. It is a culture of humid tropics, widely produced in northeastern Brazil, being an important income source for the region. The phenology study of this type of fruit is extremely important, but there are few studies in literature. Regression models, especially nonlinear growth models, can be of great value to understand how fruit growth behaves. The scarcity of works of this nature may be linked to some difficulties in estimating parameters of nonlinear models, such as assigning initial values to the itterative process. Overcoming this difficulty, for regression analysis, linear or not, several steps need to be respected to ensure the validity of information. Much information can be extracted from nonlinear growth models, such as the asynotic value, growth rate and critical points (maximum acceleration point, inflection point, maximum deceleration point and asynotic deceleration point). The aim of this work was to describe the stages of nonlinear regression analysis and to estimate the critical points of ‘Green Dwarf ’ coconut growth curves. After initial adjustments, the only unmet assumption was independence, adding a first order autoregressive term. Again, models were adjusted and all parameters were significant, with both models, Gompertz and Logistic, adjusting well to data, with slight advantage for the Logistic model with better adjustment quality criteria values, with maximum expected LED and LEDKP values of 21.4037 cm and 21.5478 cm, respectively. The x and y axis of critical points were estimated, with values that can help producers to make more objective decisions about the appropriate time to harvest coconut fruits, considering the most diverse uses of this type of fruit.

Resumo A amora-preta é um pequeno fruto com várias propriedades benéficas à saúde humana, e seu cultivo é uma alternativa para os pequenos produtores. Estudar o crescimento de frutos, ao longo do tempo, é extremamente importante para entender seu desenvolvimento, auxiliando no manejo mais adequado da cultura, evitando, por exemplo, perda após a colheita, que é um dos fatores agravantes da amora-preta, por ser um fruto de curto período de prateleira. Sendo assim, as curvas de crescimento ganham destaque, nesse tipo de estudo, e a modelagem, por meio de modelos estatísticos, ajuda a entender como tal crescimento acontece. Conduziu-se este trabalho com o objetivo de ajustar modelos não lineares, duplo Logístico e duplo Gompertz, para descrever o crescimento do diâmetro de quatro cultivares da amora-preta (Brazos, Choctaw, Guarani e Tupy). As estimativas dos parâmetros foram obtidas por meio do método de mínimos quadrados, utilizando o algoritmo de Gauss-Newton, por meio do software R. A comparação dos ajustes foi feitas pelo critério de informação Akaike (AICc), desvio padrão residual (DPR) e coeficiente de determinação ajustado (R2 aj). Os modelos descreveram de forma satisfatória os dados, sendo escolhido o modelo duplo Logístico para as cultivares Brazos e Guarani, e o duplo Gompertz para as cultivares Tupy e Choctaw.

Abstract Blackberry is a small fruit with several properties beneficial to human health and its cultivation is an alternative for small producers due to its fast and high financial return. Studying the growth of fruits over time is extremely important to understand their development, helping in the most appropriate crop management, avoiding post-harvest losses, which is one of the aggravating factors of blackberry cultivation, being a short shelf life fruit. Thus, growth curves are highlighted in this type of study and modeling through statistical models helps understanding how such growth occurs. Data from this study were obtained from an experiment conducted at the Federal University of Lavras in 2015. The aim of this study was to adjust nonlinear, double Logistic and double Gompertz models to describe the diameter growth of four blackberry cultivars (‘Brazos’, ‘Choctaw’, ‘Guarani’ and ‘Tupy’). Estimations of parameters were obtained using the least squares method and the Gauss-Newton algorithm, with the “nls” and “glns” functions of the R statistical software. The comparison of adjustments was made by the Akaike information criterion (AICc), residual standard deviation (RSD) and adjusted determination coefficient (R2 aj). The models satisfactorily described data, choosing the Logistic double model for ‘Brazos’ and ‘Guarani’ cultivars and the double Gompertz model for ‘Tupy’ and ‘Choctaw’ cultivars.

RESUMO: A avaliação do crescimento dos colmos de cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum spp.) ajuda a adequar o manejo com as fases fenológicas da cultura. Objetivou-se com este trabalho descrever a curva de crescimento da altura de quatro variedades de cana-de-açúcar (RB92579, RB93509, RB931530 e SP79-1011), nos cultivos de cana planta e cana soca irrigados, utilizando os modelos não lineares Logístico e Gompertz, e considerando eventuais desvios de pressupostos. A estimação dos parâmetros dos modelos foi feita com base no método dos mínimos quadrados utilizando o Algoritmo de Gauss-Newton. Para selecionar o modelo mais adequado foram utilizadas as medidas de não linearidade, o coeficiente de determinação ajustado (R2 aj), o desvio padrão residual (DPR) e o critério de informação de Akaike corrigido (AICc). Com base nos melhores modelos foram determinadas as taxas de crescimento da altura dos colmos e as fases fenológicas da cultura por meio dos pontos críticos. Todas as análises foram realizadas no software estatístico R. No geral, os modelos Logístico e Gompertz sem AR(1) descreveram melhor a altura dos colmos em cana planta e cana soca, respectivamente. Todas as variedades apresentaram crescimento precoce, a variedade RB92579 apresentou maiores taxas em ambos os ciclos.

ABSTRACT: Assessing sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) stalk growth helps to adequately manage the phenological stages of the crop. The aim of this study was to describe the height-growth curve of four sugarcane varieties (RB92579, RB93509, RB931530 and SP79-1011), in irrigated plant-cane and ratoon cane plantations, using the Logistic and Gompertz nonlinear models, while considering all deviations from assumptions. The model parameters were estimated based on the least squares method using the Gauss-Newton algorithm. To select the most suitable model, nonlinear measures, adjusted coefficient of determination (R2 adj), residual standard deviation (RSD), and corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc) were used. Based on the best models, stalk height growth rates and crop phenological stages were determined using critical points. All tests were performed in the free software environment for statistical computing and graphics, R. In general, the Logistic and Gompertz models without AR(1) better described the plant-cane and ratoon cane stalk height, respectively. All varieties showed early growth, and the RB92579 variety presented higher rates in both cycles.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o ajuste do modelo logístico e gompertz com estrutura de erro autoregressiva de primeira ordem no estudo do crescimento de frutos de coqueiro anão verde, com base nos dados de diâmetro longitudinal e transversal da cavidade interna (DLCI e DTCI). Os ajustes dos modelos apresentaram autocorrelação residual positiva, de acordo com o teste de Durbin-Watson e para ambas as variáveis, DLCI e DTCI, o resíduo foi modelado segundo um processo autorregressivo de primeira ordem (AR1). A análise foi feita por meio do método de mínimos quadrados no PROC MODEL do programa SAS e os resultados indicaram que para as duas características em estudo, o modelo logístico foi o mais adequado na descrição do crescimento do fruto e de acordo com o modelo, o fruto do coqueiro anão verde, totalmente desenvolvido, tem diâmetro longitudinal e transversal da cavidade interna aproximadamente de 7,39 cm e 7,60 cm, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT The aim of the work was to evaluate the adjustment of the logistic and gompertz model with structure of first-order autoregressive errors in the study on the ‘Dwarf green’ coconut fruit growth based on longitudinal and cross-sectional internal cavity diameter data (DLCI and DTCI). Model adjustments showed positive residual autocorrelation, according to the Durbin-Watson test and for both variables, DLCI and DTCI, the residue was modeled according to first-order autoregressive process (AR1). The analysis was performed using the least squares method in the PROC MODEL of the SAS software and results indicated that for both characteristics under study, the logistic model was the most appropriate in describing fruit growth and, according to the model, fully developed ‘Dwarf green’ coconut fruits have longitudinal and cross-sections internal cavity diameter of approximately 7.39 cm and 7.60 cm, respectively.

RESUMO O Brasil é o maior produtor mundial de cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum spp.), seguido pela Índia e China. Em 2019 Brasil produziu 642,7 milhões de toneladas de cana, tendo arrecadado 1.44 bilhões e 983,52 milhões de dólares com exportação de açúcar e etanol, respectivamente. No manejo da cultura é importante monitorar o crescimento das plantas, a duração das fases de crescimento e o ponto de maturação fisiológica. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o ajuste dos modelos não lineares Logistico, Gompertz, Brody e von Bertalanffy ao crescimento dos colmos da cana soca variedade RB92579, em estatura e diâmetro, considerando a idade em dias. Os parâmetro dos modelos foram estimados por meio de rotinas do software R, aplicando o método de mínimos quadadrados e o processo iterativo de Gauss-Newton. O ajuste dos modelos foi comparado utilizando os avaliadores: coeficiente de determinação (R2), desvio padrão residual (DPR) e critério de Akaike corrigido (AICc). Em todos os modelos, os modelos, parâmetros foram significativos pelo test t ao nível de 1%, exceto o modelo Brody. Ao realizar os testes Shapiro-Wilk, Durbin-Watson e Breusch-Pagan, verificou-se que os resíduos foram normais, homocedásticos e independentes, ao nível de 1% de significância. Todos os modelos ajustaram-se bem aos dados, exceto o modelo Brody para estatura dos colmos. Com base nos resultados, os modelos Gompertz e Logístico apresentaram maiores valores de R2 e menores DPR e AICc, desta forma conclui-se que estes modelos são adequados para descrever a altura e o diâmetro da cultivar RB92579, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT Brazil is the world’s largest sugarcane producer (Saccharum spp.), followed by India and China. In 2019, Brazil produced 642.7 million tons of sugarcane, having collected 1.44 billion and 983.52 million dollars from sugar and ethanol exports, respectively. For crop management, it is important to monitor plant growth, duration of growth phases and point of physiological maturation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fit of nonlinear Logistic, Gompertz, Brody and von Bertalanffy models to the height and diameter growth of ratoon cane stalk RB92579 variety, considering age in days. The parameters of models were estimated using R software routines, applying the least squares method and the iterative Gauss-Newton process. The adjustment of models was compared using the following evaluators: determination coefficient (R2), residual standard deviation (RSD) and corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc). In all models, parameters were significant by the t test at 1% level, except for the Brody model. When using the Shapiro-Wilk, Durbin-Watson and Breusch-Pagan tests, it was found that residues were normal, homoscedastic and independent at 1% significance level. All models fitted well to data, except for the Brody model for stalk height. Based on results, the Gompertz and Logistic models presented higher R2 values and lower RSD and AICc values; thus, it could be concluded that these models are suitable to describe the height and diameter of sugarcane RB92579 cultivar, respectively.
