ABSTRACT Deformation intensity analysis for mechanical parts are very important data for machine design. For farm machines, these parameters present difficulties for determination due to its particularities. The Machinery industry searches for advanced technologies to determine the mechanical behavior of parts. This article shows the analysis of the reliability in the application of the laser triangulation technique (LTT) to determine the deformation of the mechanical elements of farm machines. A flat cutting disc with standardized dimension was selected as the object of study, as it is commonly used in farm machines, exhibiting a simple geometry made of steel, making the analysis procedure easier both for experimental execution and for data validation. Displacements of 1.0 mm to 10 mm were applied on the specimen. The theoretical behavior of specimen displacement was defined by finite element modelling with same condition of loading and dimension to compare the generated data by the experimental tests. Results indicated a displacement with maximum variation of 2.56% between experimental data and theoretical results and were considered satisfactory. LTT was able to determine deformation curve behavior of machine elements. RESUMO Uma característica importante dos produtos agrícolas está intimamente associada à geometria complexa e também do material que os constituí. O estudo do comportamento mecânico dos materiais biológicos merece uma análise detalhada das leis da mecânica dos sólidos, particularmente das integrais hereditárias e dos modelos analógicos. O levantamento do volume, superfície e forma dos órgãos das plantas podem fornecer suporte fundamental para o desenvolvimento de equipamentos capazes de manusear esses produtos com precisão adequada. A determinação da qualidade dos produtos agrícolas é um processo dinâmico, para o qual técnicas interativas e não invasivas são de relevante importância. Este trabalho tem como objetivo revisar a literatura pertinente associada à análise das propriedades físicas e mecânicas de materiais vegetativos. A seguir os avanços científicos associados às técnicas para estudar o comportamento físico e mecânico dos tecidos vegetativos e como elas podem dar suporte a projetos de engenharia. As conclusões deste artigo incluem a análise da importância destas novas técnicas e suas aplicações para as ciências agrícolas.

ABSTRACT A relevant characteristic of agricultural products is the close association between their complex geometry and material constitution. A study of the mechanical behavior of biological materials should involve a detailed analysis of the laws of solid mechanics, particularly of hereditary integrals and analogical models. Moreover, volume, surface, and shape surveys of plant organs support, on a fundamental level, the development of equipment capable of processing and handling these products with adequate precision. Quality determination of agricultural products is a dynamic process, as part of which interactive and non-invasive techniques are relevant. Accordingly, this review targets pertinent literature associated with the analysis of physical as well as mechanical properties of vegetative materials. Following this, the review covers scientific advances associated with techniques employed to study the physical and mechanical behavior of vegetative tissues and how these techniques can support engineering projects. Finally, the conclusions present an analysis of the importance of these new techniques and their applications to the agricultural sciences.

Resumo A classificação e a seleção de produtos agrícolas são de grande importância para garantir a qualidade dos processos de pós-colheita. No entanto, a maioria das análises físicas e químicas são destrutivas e isso significa que os produtos são inutilizados após essas análises. Sendo a umidade um dos mais importantes parâmetros para garantir a qualidade de armazenamento, bem como facilitar o processamento do produto, esse trabalho propõe um método alternativo para determinar esse parâmetro através de forma indireta e não-destrutiva, utilizando a análise de imagens a partir do fenômeno Biospeckle. Esse método consiste em obter um vídeo de 10s no qual o objeto é incidido por um laser. Esse vídeo é dividido em frames, utilizando rotina computacional no Matlab e, então, a sequência de imagens é processada, utilizando-se o programa computacional, ImageJ. Os resultados foram expressos em termos da matriz de correlação modificada e Momento de Inércia (MI). Em paralelo à análise de imagens, foi feita a análise de umidade através do método tradicional, empregando uma estufa a 130 ºC. Correlacionando MI e os valores de umidade, foi possível determinar a umidade pelo método indireto. Para esse trabalho foram empregados grãos de Moringa oleifera.

Abstract The classification and selection of agricultural products are very important to assure post-harvest quality processes. However, most of physical and chemical analyses are destructive. It means those products turn useless after these analyses. Moisture is one of the most important parameters to assure the storage quality and as well to facilitate product processing. This research offers an alternative method to determine that parameter through an indirect and non-destructive way, using the image analysis based on the Biospeckle phenomenon. This method consists in get a 10 seconds video of a laser focused on the object. This video is divided in frames, using a computational routine in Matlab and, then, the sequence of images is processed using the computational program named ImageJ. The results are expressed in terms of modified correlation matrix and Moment of Inertia (MI). At the same time, a moisture analysis is carried out using the traditional methodology employing conventional heater equipment set at 130 ºC. By correlating MI and moisture values, it was possible to determine the moisture content by means of an indirect method. To this research, it was employed grains of Moringa oleifera.

Desenvolvimento e otimização de projetos de máquinas agrícolas envolvem a análise de tensão e deformação. Técnicas fotomecânicas de moiré fornecem campo de deslocamento completo do corpo de prova e podem auxiliar no entendimento do comportamento mecânico de peças com geometria complexa. Métodos híbridos associam franjas padrões de deslocamento com mapas de distribuição de tensão e deformação, através de conceitos de teoria da elasticidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o uso da técnica de moiré de sombra para determinação qualitativa de distribuição de tensão e deformação em elementos de máquinas de geometria complexa. Os resultados foram comparados com o método de extensometria elétrica e por simulação computacional. Os resultados mostraram que a técnica de moiré de sombra foi bastante confiável para analisar o comportamento mecânico de elementos de máquinas de geometria complexa.

Development and optimization of projects for agricultural machinery involve the analysis of stress and strain. Moiré photomechanical techniques provide a complete displacement field of the specimen under test, and can aid in understanding the mechanical behavior of parts with complex geometry. Hybrid methods combine fringe patterns of displacement with distribution maps of stress and strain through concepts of the theory of elasticity. The objective of this work was to analyse the use of the shadow moiré technique in the qualitative determination of stress and strain distribution in geometrically complex machine elements. The results were compared with those from an electrical extensometer and a computer simulation. The results demonstrated that the shadow moire technique was quite reliable in analysing the mechanical behavior of geometrically complex machine elements.

A qualidade vegetal freqüentemente se refere a tamanho, forma, massa, firmeza, cor e danos, em que podem ser classificados e ordenados. Porém, sua implementação tecnológica se torna inviável, para pequenos e médios produtores, devido ao alto custo de softwares, equipamentos, além dos custos operacionais. Com base nessas considerações, a proposta deste trabalho é estudar a adaptação de um novo software, com código-fonte aberto para habilitar o sistema de classificação reconhecendo forma, volume, cor e possivelmente danos. O software chamado ImageJ, compatível com o Windows, Linux e MAC/OS, é bastante popular em práticas e pesquisas médicas, e oferece algoritmos para obter os parâmetros mencionados acima. Entre os recursos oferecidos pelo pacote destaca-se a disponibilidade de diversos algoritmos com código-fonte abertos para: manipulação dos mais variados formatos de arquivo de imagens, detecção de bordas, melhoria de imagens, cálculos diversos (áreas, médias, centróides) e operações morfológicas. Este software disponibiliza também um ambiente gráfico que simplifica a utilização de tais recursos, além de permitir a extensão através de "plugins" escritos em Java.

Vegetable quality is frequently referred to size, shape, mass, firmness, color and bruises from which fruits can be classified and sorted. However, technological by small and middle producers implementation to assess this quality is unfeasible, due to high costs of software, equipment as well as operational costs. Based on these considerations, the proposal of this research is to evaluate a new open software that enables the classification system by recognizing fruit shape, volume, color and possibly bruises at a unique glance. The software named ImageJ, compatible with Windows, Linux and MAC/OS, is quite popular in medical research and practices, and offers algorithms to obtain the above mentioned parameters. The software allows calculation of volume, area, averages, border detection, image improvement and morphological operations in a variety of image archive formats as well as extensions by means of "plugins" written in Java.
