ABSTRACT: In irrigated systems, the adoption of management methods like soil cover, polymers which absorb the water present in the soil and the utilization of shading screens can decrease the water consumption by the plants. This is achieved as these means protect the plant and soil against radiation and wavelengths of light undesirable for cultivation. However, for pineapple cultivation in the semi-arid climate regions, very little study has been done regarding these technologies. Hence, the present study conducted to assess the pineapple growth, production and quality when various kinds of soil cover, red shading screen and water absorption polymers are employed. To accomplish this, a field trial was performed utilizing four types of soil cover in the plots (plastic mulching; organic matter; organic matter + red shading screen 50%; plastic mulching + red shading screen 50% and the control (no cover).Two treatments were included in the subplots namely, either the absence or presence of a water-absorbing polymer in the planting hole (0.5 g per plant), arranged in subdivided plots. We adopted the Randomized Complete Block (RCB) , with three replications. The following aspects of the plants were studied: naturally flowering, stem diameter; leaf area index; D-leaf area and total leaf area; fruit weight with crown; fruit weight without crown; fruit length with crown; and fruit length without crown, as well as the traits of the post-harvest fruit, soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH and the soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio. Further, the productivity in t ha-1 and efficiency of water use (EUA) were ascertained. It was evident that the plastic mulching + 50% red shading screen favored the vegetative development and productivity of the ‘IAC Fantástico’ pineapple plants. The characteristics of the quality of the postharvest fruit were unaffected by the treatments. The shading screen reduced the percentages of natural flowering in the treatments which included organic matter + red shading screen 50% and plastic mulching + red shading screen 50%. RESUMO: A utilização de práticas de manejo com cobertura do solo, uso de polímeros de absorção de água no solo e telas de sombreamento podem diminuir o consumo de água em sistemas irrigados, por proporcionarem proteção da planta e solo contra a presença de radiação e comprimentos de onda (luz) indesejados para o cultivo, no entanto essas tecnologias são pouco estudadas no cultivo de abacaxizeiro em regiões de clima semiárido. Assim, o trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o crescimento, produção e qualidade do abacaxizeiro em resposta a utilização de diferentes tipos de cobertura de solo, tela de sombreamento vermelha e polímeros de absorção água. Para isso, desenvolveu-se ensaio de campo composto por quatro coberturas de solo nas parcelas (mulching plástico; matéria orgânica; matéria orgânica + tela de sombreamento vermelha 50%; mulching plástico + tela de sombramento vermelha 50% e o controle (sem cobertura) com dois tratamentos nas subparcelas referentes a ausência e presença de polímero absorvedor de água colocado na cova de plantio (0,5 g por planta), dispostos em parcelas subdivididas, no delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. ABSTRACT: Fertilization management of pigeon peas can increase soil quality and the N utilization by plants. Therefore, we evaluated the biological activity of soil cultivated with pigeon peas (Cajanus cajan (L) Millsp.) under different fertilization treatments. A randomized block design was used with three replicates and a 3×5 factorial arrangement (genotype×fertilization and inoculation management). At full flowering stage, the plants were collected and shoot dry matter was evaluated. Soil was sampled at 0-20 cm for various analysis viz. nodulation assessment; soil organic carbon; total nitrogen; carbon and nitrogen from microbial biomass; C/N ratio; β-glucosidase and urease enzymatic activity. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and Tukey’s test (P ≤ 0.05). A Pearson correlation matrix was constructed, and the similarity between treatments was evaluated using the Mahalanobis distance and grouping was done using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA). Both the experimental genotypes (BRS03 and BRS04) showed similar nodulation and shoot dry matter pattern with respect to fertilizer treatments. Furthermore, the microbial inoculation promoted a higher shoot dry matter content in all the genotypes. The application of mineral N and inoculation increased the total N content in the soil, favoring the mineralization of this nutrient. During the testing phase, the genotypes exhibited an increase in microbial carbon and microbial quotient levels, indicating an improvement in soil quality. The combination of fertilization and inoculation increased the enzymatic activity of β-glucosidase and urease. The correlation matrix showed a strong association between N total and C/N ratio. RESUMO: O manejo da adubação do feijão-guandu pode melhorar a qualidade do solo e o aproveitamento do N pelas plantas. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a atividade biológica do solo cultivado com feijão guandu (Cajanus cajan (L) Millsp.) com diferentes manejos de adubação. Empregou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com três repetições e arranjo fatorial 3x5 (genótipos x fertilização e manejo de inoculação). Na fase de florescimento pleno procedeu-se a coleta da planta, para determinação da massa seca da parte aérea e do solo em 0-20 cm, para avaliações da nodulação; carbono orgânico total; nitrogênio total; carbono e nitrogênio da biomassa microbiana; relação C/N; atividade enzimática de β-glucosidase e urease. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste Tukey (P ≤ 0,05). ABSTRACT. Integrated agricultural production systems can increase soil organic carbon stocks over time and contribute to the mitigation of climate change. The present study aimed to evaluate soil carbon stocks, accumulation rates (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and the quality of soil organic matter (SOM) after the transition of a low-productivity pasture into agrosilvopastoral systems in the Cerrado biome. We evaluated an 11-year-old experiment, and the treatments studied were: Eucalyptus + buffel grass; Eucalyptus + cowpea; Eucalyptus + pigeon pea; eucalyptus + buffel grass + cowpea; Eucalyptus + buffel grass + pigeon pea; Eucalyptus in monoculture (with a 20 × 3 m tree arrangement and no cultivation between rows but with a history of forage and grain crop production); and a low-productivity pasture as additional treatment and reference to the soil condition previously the land-use change. In this study, TOC and TN stocks and accumulation, labile (LC) and non-labile carbon (NLC), and SOM humic fractions were evaluated at 0-10, 10-20, 20-40, and 0-40 cm depth layers. RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do biochar de torta de filtro como condicionador de solo e sua influência no crescimento e na fisiologia de macaúba, araçá e cajuzinho do cerrado. Os experimentos foram montados na Fazenda Hamilton de Abreu Navarro da UFMG, onde foram avaliados o efeito de quatro doses de biochar de torta de filtro (1%, 2%, 4% e 8% v/v) e dois tratamentos controle: um com correção do solo e adubação mineral, e o outro sem adubação. Para acompanhar o desempenho das mudas, foram realizadas avaliações aos 30, 60 e 120 dias após o transplantio, dos parâmetros fisiológicos (fotossíntese, transpiração, condutância estomática, CO2 consumido, carbono interno e taxa de transporte de elétrons), e morfológicos (altura e diâmetro), aos 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias após o transplantio. An alternative that aims to contribute to the good performance of post-planting plants is the incorporation of biochar into the soil. ABSTRACT. In Brazil, although there is a growing demand for physalis in the food industries, information on the nutritional management of the crop is still incipient. This study aimed to evaluate the biomass production and accumulation of nutrients in the shoots and fruit of physalis in two cultivation sites. Two field experiments were conducted, one where the soil was Typic Quartzipsamment in the municipality of Diamantina and the other where the soil was Rhodic Hapludox in the municipality of São João Evangelista, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The experiments were conducted in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The treatments were the evaluation period. Samples were collected every 15 days the day of planting of the seedlings in the field for a period of 240 days. Dry matter and nutrient accumulation in shoot and fruit were evaluated. The biomass production and nutrient accumulation were higher in the edaphoclimatic conditions at São João Evangelista compared to the conditions at Diamantina. Macronutrient accumulation was in the following order: N > K > Ca > S > Mg > P in shoot and N > K > P > S > Ca > Mg in fruit. Micronutrient accumulation in shoot and fruit was in the following order: Fe > Mn > Zn > B > Cu.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características morfogenéticas, estruturais, fisiológicas e produtivas do amendoim-forrageiro submetido a diferentes níveis de sombreamento artificial no campo. O amendoim-forrageiro 'Amarillo MG-100' foi plantado em abril de 2015, e as avaliações foram realizadas de maio de 2017 a abril de 2018. Os tratamentos foram: 0, 30, 45 e 75% de sombreamento artificial. Não houve efeito significativo do sombreamento sobre as características morfogenéticas do amendoim-forrageiro. O sombreamento aumentou o comprimento final da folha e a altura do dossel e diminuiu o índice de área foliar e o número de estolões. A fotossíntese, a taxa de transpiração, a condutância estomática, a clorofila b e a temperatura das folhas aumentaram quadraticamente em função do sombreamento. Houve efeito linear positivo sobre o tamanho do ciclo de crescimento e efeito quadrático sobre a produção de massa de matéria seca, com o máximo a 30% de sombra. O amendoim-forrageiro colhido a 95% de interceptação luminosa (11 cm de altura) apresenta adaptação ao sombreamento de até 45%, com aumento do tamanho das folhas, da altura do dossel, da taxa fotossintética, da condutância estomática, da taxa de transpiração e da clorofila b. Além disso, as plantas sob sombreamento de 30% apresentam maior rendimento do que aquelas que crescem sob a luz do sol.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the morphogenetic, structural, physiological, and productive traits of forage peanut (Arachis pintoi) subjected to different levels of artificial shading in the field. The 'Amarillo MG-100' forage peanut was planted in April 2015, and the evaluations were carried out from May 2017 to April 2018. The treatments were: 0, 30, 45, and 75% of artificial shading. There was no significant effect of shading on the morphogenetic traits of forage peanut. Shading increased final leaf length and canopy height and decreased the leaf area index and number of stolons. Photosynthesis, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, chlorophyll b, and leaf temperature increased quadratically as a function of shading. There was a linear positive effect on the growing cycle length and a quadratic effect on the production of dry matter mass, with the maximum at 30% shade. Forage peanut harvested at 95% light interception (11-cm height) shows adaptation to shading up to 45%, with increased leaf size, canopy height, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, and chlorophyll b. In addition, plants at 30% shading show a higher yield than those growing under full sun.

Abstract Contamination of water sources due to herbicide is of great concern. Clomazone is a pesticide with a high contamination potential which could possibility lixiviate to water streams. Changes caused by residual herbicide include flora modifications which are generally detrimental for some species. The lack of morphological studies performed in aquatic plants exposed to herbicide-contaminated environments has encouraged the development of our research. For the first time, we present a study that aimed to evaluate leaf injuries visible to the naked eye as well as microscopical effects which may be caused by clomazone on Pistia stratiotes. Pistia stratiotes was subjected to five concentrations of clomazone. Our analysis showed leaf injuries, especially after 15 days of clomazone application. Hormesis was observed when the water lettuce was subjected to the lower concentrations. Total leaf area showed increase following by reduction while injured until reaching the highest concentration. Although the concentrations of clomazone tested in our study are not lethal to water lettuce, such herbicide have still caused morphoanatomical damages on leaves which advocates for the use of P. stratiotes as a bioindicator of the presence of herbicides such as clomazone in water.

RESUMO O uso de acaricidas é o principal método de controle de Tetranychus ludeni (Acari: Tetranychidae) em cultivos hortícolas. Esse ácaro foi registrado causando danos em batata-doce (Ipomoea batatas (L.). A utilização de fungos patogênicos é uma alternativa ao controle químico. O objetivo foi avaliar a patogenicidade dos fungos Metarhizium anisopliae (Meetch) Sorok. e Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. ao ácaro fitófago T. ludeni em batata-doce. Suspensões conidiais de M. anisopliae e B. bassiana, nas concentrações de 106 e 107 con.mL-1, foram aplicadas sobre folhas de batata-doce. Após 24 horas, cinco fêmeas recém-emergidas foram liberadas sobre as folhas. O bioensaio foi inteiramente randomizado, com arranjo fatorial 2 × 2 (duas espécies de fungos e duas concentrações) e controle (água destilada), com 10 replicações por tratamento. A avaliação consistiu na observação de três parâmetros biológicos do ácaro: mortalidade, oviposição e repelência, após 24, 48, 72 e 96 horas de contato com os fungos. Os isolados de M. anisopliae causam altas taxas de mortalidade de T. ludeni em laboratório. Beauveria bassiana tem potencial para suprimir futuras gerações do ácaro, reduzindo a taxa de oviposição. Comportamento de repelência nos ácaros não foi observado.

ABSTRACT The use of acaricides is the main control method for Tetranychus ludeni (Acari: Tetranychidae) in horticultural crops. This mite has been recorded causing damage to sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.). The use of pathogenic fungi is an alternative to chemical control. The objective was to evaluate the pathogenicity of the fungi Metarhizium anisopliae (Meetch) Sorok, and Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. to phytophagous mite T. ludeni in sweet potato plants. Conidial suspensions of M. anisopliae and B. bassiana, at concentrations of 106 and 107 con.mL-1 were applied to sweet potato leaves. After 24 hours, five females of T. ludeni newly emerged were released on the leaves. The bioassay was arranged in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement 2 × 2 (two species of fungi and two concentrations) plus the control (distilled water), with 10 repetitions per treatment. The evaluation consisted of observing of three biological parameters of the mite: mortality, oviposition, and repellency, after 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours of contact with the fungi. The isolates of M. anisopliae cause high mortality rates of T. ludeni in laboratory. Beauveria bassiana has the potential to suppress future generations of mite, reducing its oviposition rate. Repellency behavior was not observed.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos de diferentes arranjos de plantas de eucalipto sobre as características morfoanatômicas de lâminas foliares de plantas de capim 'Marandu' [(Urochloa brizantha (Syn. Brachiaria brizantha)] cultivadas em sistemas agrossilvipastoris. O experimento foi estabelecido em condições de campo, em um delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, em que as parcelas foram representadas pelos espaçamentos de plantio de eucalipto (12x2 e 12x4 m), e as subparcelas, pela distância entre o capim 'Marandu' e as fileiras de eucalipto (6, 4 e 2 m). Adicionou-se um controle apenas com capim 'Marandu', cultivado a sol pleno. As variáveis de anatomia foliar do capim 'Marandu' foram avaliadas quanto à interferência do sombreamento pelas árvores. A distância entre as plantas de capim 'Marandu' e as linhas de eucalipto interferiram na anatomia da lâmina foliar da forragem, e as maiores modificações ocorreram nas medidas lineares e proporções teciduais nos arranjos com maior densidade de eucalipto. A interferência do sombreamento pelo eucalipto nas características anatômicas das folhas de capim 'Marandu' depende do arranjo adotado. Isto ocorre em razão da adaptação do capim à baixa incidência de luz, com a consequente redução de sua atividade fisiológica e crescimento.

The experiment was set in field conditions in a randomized complete block design with four replicates, in which the plots were represented by planting spacings of eucalyptus (12x2 and 12x4 m), and the subplots, by the distance between 'Marandu' grass and eucalyptus rows (6, 4, and 2 m). A control was added, composed by 'Marandu' grass cultivated in full sun. Variables of the leaf anatomy of 'Marandu' grass were evaluated for shading interference by trees. The distance of 'Marandu' grass plants from the eucalyptus lines interfered with the leaf blade anatomy of the forage, and the highest modifications occurred in linear measures and tissue proportions in the arrangements with the highest eucalyptus density. The shading interference of eucalyptus on the anatomical characteristics of leaf blades of 'Marandu' grass depends on the adopted arrangement. This occurs due to the grass adaptation to the low-light incidence, with a consequent reduction in its physiological activity and growth.

RESUMO As adaptações das plantas daninhas às diferentes condições ambientais contribuem para seu sucesso no estabelecimento de diferentes agroecossistemas. Um trabalho de casa de vegetação e laboratório foi realizado para avaliar os efeitos de diferentes níveis de umidade do solo nas características anatômicas de duas espécies de plantas daninhas. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em esquema fatorial 2 x 5, sendo o primeiro fator correspondente as espécies de plantas daninhas (Amaranthus hybridus e Brachiaria brizantha), e o segundo aos níveis de umidade no solo em que foram cultivadas (100%, 80%, 74%, 67% e 60% da capacidade de campo). Aos 55 dias após a emergência das plantas daninhas o material foi coletado para as avaliações anatômicas. O déficit hídrico afetou de maneira diferenciada as duas plantas daninhas, provocando alterações tanto na espessura dos tecidos avaliados quanto nas suas proporções. Estas alterações podem estar relacionadas à forma como cada espécie tolera a deficiência de água. O A. hybridus teve espessamento de todos os tecidos da lâmina foliar, além da mudança na proporção desses tecidos, enquanto que a B. brizantha teve decréscimo na espessura dos tecidos da lâmina foliar e aumento na proporção de parênquima homogêneo e epiderme adaxial.

ABSTRACT Weed adaptations to different environments contribute to their success in establishing in different agroecosystems. A greenhouse and laboratory study was carried out to evaluate the effects of different levels of soil moisture on the anatomical characteristics of two weed species. The treatments were arranged in a 2 x 5 factorial design, with the first factor representing the weed species (Amaranthus hybridus and Brachiaria brizantha) and the second factor being the soil moisture levels in which they were grown (100%, 80%, 74%, 67%, and 60% of field capacity). At 55 days after weed emergence, the material for anatomical evaluations was collected. The water stress affected the two weed species differently, causing changes both in the thickness of the tissues evaluated and in their proportions. These changes seem to be related to how each species tolerates water stress. A. hybridus showed thickening of all leaf tissue and change in the proportion of these tissues, whereas B. brizantha showed a decrease in thickness of the leaf tissue and an increase in the proportion of adaxial epidermal and parenchymal tissues.

RESUMO Os resíduos de plantas daninhas são importantes para a ciclagem de nutrientes nos agroecossistemas. A quantificação desta potencial fonte de nutrientes pode influenciar o manejo dessas plantas e as práticas de adubação. Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn. (joá-de-capote) é uma planta daninha de ciclo curto com rápido crescimento e grande capacidade de acumular biomassa. Dessa forma, objetivou-se conhecer o potencial de acúmulo e ciclagem de nutrientes de N. physalodes e avaliar se o aumento de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P) e potássio (K) no solo influenciam essas características. Utilizou-se delineamento de blocos casualizados, arranjado em parcelas subdivididas com três repetições. As parcelas foram constituídas de quatro doses crescente de N, P e K (Dose 1 - 0, 0,3 e 17,2; Dose 2 - 30, 450,3 e 75,4; Dose 3 - 60, 900,3 e 133,4 e Dose 4 - 120, 1800,3 e 249,68 mg dm-3) e as subparcelas de dez épocas de coleta das plantas (26, 33, 40, 47, 54, 61, 76, 91, 106 e 121 dias após emergência). O aumento nos níveis de N, P e K no solo proporcionou maiores produções de massa seca e acúmulo total desses macronutrientes em plantas de N. physalodes, sendo que os maiores acúmulos foram de K e N. A adubação não influenciou os teores de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) e a relação carbono/ nitrogênio da planta. N. physalodes apresenta baixa relação C/N, o que aliado aos baixos teores de FDN e FDA e ao bom acúmulo de nutrientes, sugere que o material vegetal dessa planta seja rapidamente decomposto, proporcionando uma ciclagem rápida de nutrientes no solo.

ABSTRACT Weed residues can influence nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. Quantifying this potential nutrient source may influence weed control and fertilisation practices. Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn. is a weed with a short life cycle and a great ability to accumulate dry matter. Field observations suggest that N. physaloides residues are easily decomposed in soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing of N, P and K doses on the growth of N. physalodes, as well as the nutrient content, chemical characteristics and C/N ratio of the weed. A randomised block design, arranged in split-plot with three replications, was utilised. The main plots were given four doses of NPK (Dose 1 - 0, 0.3 and 17.2 mg dm-3; Dose 2 - 30, 450.3 and 75.4 mg dm-3; Dose 3 - 60, 900.3 and 133.4 mg dm-3; and Dose 4 - 120, 1800.3 and 249.68 mg dm-3), and the subplots were harvested at ten time points after emergence (26, 33, 40, 47, 54, 61, 76, 91, 106 and 121 days). Higher dry matter production and N, P and K content were observed in plants grown on higher levels of fertiliser. The increase of N, P and K levels in the soil resulted in greater total accumulation of these macronutrients. The highest macronutrient contents were K and N. The treatments did not affect neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and C/N ratio of plant. N. physalodes had low C/N ratio, low NDF and ADF levels, and great nutrient accumulation, suggesting that this plant is quickly decomposed, providing a rapid cycling of nutrients.

RESUMO A composição química tanto quanto o acúmulo de nutrientes em caule, folhas e frutos são informações imprescindíveis para conhecer as exigências nutricionais da cultura do amendoim. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar a taxa de absorção de macro e micronutrientes, além de identificar as fases críticas de absorção de nutrientes na cultura do amendoim, bem como, realizar a análise de crescimento dessas plantas. Para isso foi montado um experimento em condição de campo no delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com 15 tratamentos e 4 repetições. Cada tratamento correspondeu a uma época de amostragem, realizadas de 10 em 10 dias após o plantio da espécie, até o final do ciclo da cultura, que correspondeu há 160 dias. Foi observado de modo geral nas plantas de amendoim maior taxa de absorção de macro e micronutrientes aos 110 dias após a emergência, período que coincidiu com a maior taxa de crescimento da cultura. Assim, a maior taxa de absorção de nutrientes e a maior taxa de crescimento da cultura ocorreram durante o período reprodutivo, formação dos frutos e enchimento dos grãos.

ABSTRACT The chemical composition and the accumulation of nutrients in stems, leaves and fruits are essential information to meet the nutritional requirements of a peanut crop. Thus, the goals of the present study were to evaluate the rate of absorption of macro- and micronutrients; identify the critical phases of nutrient absorption in the peanut crop; and perform growth analysis of these plants. For this, an experiment under field conditions using randomized blocks with 15 treatments and four repetitions was assembled. Each treatment corresponded to a sampling time, held from 10 days after planting, until the end of the cycle, which corresponded to 160 days. Peanut plants generally showed higher macro- and micronutrient absorption rates at 110 days after emergence, coinciding with the highest growth rate of the crop. Thus, the higher nutrient absorption rate and increased crop growth rate occurred during the reproductive period, formation of fruit and grain filling.

Abstract Micro-morphological changes precede the appearance of visible damage after herbicide application and are essential in providing data for the safe recommendation in chemical management of weeds. Therefore, the aim of this research was to verify the anatomical changes of leaf tissue caused by application of herbicides in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.cv. IAC-12). A greenhouse experiment was conducted with post-emergence herbicides treatments as follows: nicossulfuron (60 g a.i ha-1), fluazifop (250 g a.i ha-1), fomesafem (250 g a.i ha-1), metribuzin (480 g a.i ha-1), oxyfluorfen (720 g a.i ha-1) and the mixture fluazifop + fomesafen (200 + 250 g a.i ha-1), and an untreated control, respectively. The results obtained have allowed to affirm the cassava plants (cultivar IAC-12), exhibited changes in leaf anatomy in response to herbicide application even on cassava leaves without no visual toxicity symptoms. The products caused alterations both in tissue thickness as in tissue proportion in the leaf blade. For the fluazifop, a eudicotyledonous selective herbicide, changes were observed in tissue thickness and proportion of leaf blade, even without any visual toxicity detected. Cassava plants (IAC-12), showed structural changes in leaf anatomy in response to application of herbicides. The leaf anatomy of cassava cv. IAC-12, can be used to indicate the herbicide effect on cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.cv. IAC-12) plants.

Resumo Mudanças micro-morfológica precede o aparecimento de danos visíveis após a aplicação do herbicida e são essenciais no fornecimento de dados para a recomendação segura no manejo químico de ervas daninhas. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho visou verificar as alterações anatômicas do tecido foliar causada pela aplicação de herbicidas em mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz.cv. IAC-12). Um experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido com os seguintes herbicidas aplicados em pós-emergência na cultura da mandioca: nicossulfuron (60 g i.a ha-1), fluazifop (250 g i.a ha-1), fomesafem (250 g i.a ha-1), metribuzin (480 g i.a ha-1), oxyfluorfen (720 g i.a ha-1), a mistura fluazifop + fomesafen (200 + 250 g ha-1), e um tratamento sem aplicação de herbicidas. Os resultados obtidos permitem afirmar que as plantas de mandioca (cultivar IAC-12) apresentaram mudanças na anatomia foliar, em resposta à aplicação do herbicida até mesmo em folhas sem nenhum sintoma visual de intoxicação. Os produtos causaram alterações tanto na espessura do tecido como na proporção de tecidos na lâmina de folha. Para o fluazifop, um herbicida seletivo para espécies eudicotiledôneas foram observadas alterações na espessura do tecido e na proporção de lâminas foliares, mesmo quando não foram detectadas sintoma visual de intoxicação nas folhas. As plantas de mandioca (IAC-12) apresentaram mudanças estruturais na anatomia foliar em resposta à aplicação de herbicidas. A anatomia da folha da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz.cv. IAC-12) é um parâmetro para indicar o efeito de herbicidas em relação as avaliações visuais.

RESUMO: O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar os efeitos do sombreamento ocasionado por plantas de eucalipto e milho nas características relacionadas ao uso da água da braquiária em sistema agrossilvipastoril. O experimento foi realizado no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em esquema de parcelas subsubdivididas, comas parcelas representadas constituídas pelos espaçamentos de plantio do eucalipto (12x2 e 12x4m), as sub-parcelas da distância da braquiaria e o eucalipto (6; 4 e 2m) e a subparcela do local de cultivo da braquiária (linha e entrelinha do milho). Além disso, foi adicionado um tratamento composto pela braquiária cultivada a pleno sol. O cultivo do capim-maradu na entrelinha do milho associado ao sombreamento intenso proporcionado pelo espaçamento mais adensado de eucalipto (12x2m) e a proximidade das plantas de capim-marandu às copas das árvores de eucalipto altera negativamente a condutância estomática, o carbo interno e a taxa transpiratória das plantas de capim-marandu. A eficiência no uso da água das plantas de capim - maradu é reduzida independente do arranjo espacial do eucalipto e da distância entre aforrageira e as árvores quando a forrageira é cultivada na linha do milho.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to assess the effects of Eucalyptus and maize shading on characteristics related to water use by Brachiaria in agroforestry systems. Treatments were arranged in a split-split-plot design, with plots consisting of different spacing between Eucalyptus plants (12.0×2.0m and 12.0×4.0m), split-plots of different distances between Brachiaria and Eucalyptus (6.0, 4.0, and 2.0m), and split-split-plots of Brachiaria sowing sites (maize row and inter-row). One treatment with Brachiaria under full sunlight was included. Bread grass intercropping in maize inter-rows associated with the densest Eucalyptus spacing and bread grass proximity to Eucalyptus tree crowns adversely affected the stomatal conductance, internal carbon, and transpiration rate of bread grass. Water use efficiency of bread grass intercropped in maize rows decreased, regardless of the Eucalyptus plot design and distance between forages and trees.
