A água utilizada para consumo humano pode conter várias impurezas e partículas sólidas em suspensão que elevam seu nível de turbidez. A Moringa oleifera Lam. é uma planta que tem potencial para ser usada como agente coagulante na remoção da turbidez. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de sementes de Moringa oleifera utilizadas com casca e sem casca na remoção da turbidez de águas com diferentes níveis de turbidez. Utilizaram-se águas com 70, 250 e 400 UNT inicial. O extrato de sementes de Moringa oleifera foi preparado utilizando sementes sem casca e sementes com casca, visando um procedimento simplificado e prático. Os tempos de sedimentação e as dosagens da solução coagulante utilizadas foram baseados em dados já existentes na literatura. Todos os tratamentos foram realizados com três repetições e as médias foram descritas em gráficos. Os resultados mostraram que o uso do extrato de sementes com casca foi mais eficiente na remoção da turbidez do que os tratamentos nos quais foram utilizadas sementes sem casca, havendo remoção de mais de 99% da turbidez inicial das amostras de água. Além disso, verificou-se uma relação direta entre eficiência de remoção da turbidez com o nível de turbidez inicial das amostras, visto que as sementes foram mais eficientes na remoção da turbidez de águas com nível de turbidez inicial maiores.

Water used for human consumption may contain various impurities and solid particles in suspension that increase its turbidity level. Moringa oleifera Lam is a plant that has the potential to be used as coagulating agent in removing turbidity. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of Moringa oleifera seeds used in shells and without shells in the removal of turbidity from waters with different degrees of turbidity. Waters were used with 70, 250 and 400 initial NTU obtained synthetically. The extract of moringa seeds was prepared using unshelled and shelled seeds, seeking a simplified procedure and practice. The sedimentation times and dose of coagulant solution used were based on existing recommendations in the literature. All treatments were performed with three replicates and the averages depicted in graphs. The results showed that the use of extract of moringa seeds in shells was more efficient than with unshelled seeds in the removal of turbidity of all treatments and that the shelled seeds removed more than 99% of the initial turbidity of the water samples. Furthermore, there was a direct relationship between turbidity removal efficiency and the level of initial turbidity of the samples. The seeds were more efficient in removing turbidity of the water with a higher level of initial turbidity.
