RESUMO Este estudo objetivou determinar o número ótimo de repetições e medições necessárias para screening de cultivares de soja submetidas a três condições de disponibilidade hídrica durante o estádio inicial de desenvolvimento. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação. Utilizou-se delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial com dois fatores, seis repetições, dez cultivares e três condições de disponibilidade hídrica (condição controle, na qual a areia foi umedecida em água; condição estresse no potencial hídrico de -0.2 MPa e condição estresse no potencial hídrico de -0.4 Mpa). Aos 20 dias após o plantio, procedeu-se as mensurações, sendo posteriormente estimado do coeficiente de repetibilidade, do número de medições necessárias e do coeficiente de determinação. O coeficiente de repetibilidade foi estimado por distintos procedimentos estatísticos, tais como o método da análise de variância, componentes principais baseada na matriz de variâncias e covariâncias fenotípicas, componentes principais baseada na matriz de correlação e análise estrutural. Para determinação do número de repetições, os coeficientes de repetibilidade variaram de baixo a alto no experimento I, exceto para as variáveis radiculares. Estas, apresentaram altos valores nos dois experimentos. No experimento II, por outro lado, as magnitudes dos coeficientes de determinação foram superiores a 90%. Para altura da planta, número de folhas, comprimento de raiz e matéria seca da parte aérea, seriam necessárias apenas duas repetições para obter confiabilidade de 80%. Em relação ao número de medições por parcela, apenas uma planta poderia ser avaliada em cada parcela, com confiabilidade de 85%, para os dois experimentos. Apenas duas repetições e uma medição por parcela são suficientes para altas estimativas de repetibilidade. Desse modo, têm-se adequada eficiência na seleção de materiais superiores para tolerância ao déficit hídrico, durante os estádios iniciais de desenvolvimento da soja.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at determining the optimal number of replications and measurements necessary for the screening of soybean cultivars subjected to three conditions of water availability during the initial stage of development. Two experiments were carried out in a greenhouse. A randomized block design was used, in a factorial scheme with two factors (cultivar and water availability), six replications, ten cultivars and three conditions of water availability (control condition, in which the sand was moistened with water; stress control in the water potential of -0.2 MPa and stress condition in the water potential of -0.4 MPa). At 20 days after cultivation, measurements were taken, subsequently estimating the repeatability coefficient, of the number of necessary measurements and of the determination coefficient. The repeatability coefficient was estimated by distinct statistical procedures, such as method of analysis of variance, principal components with basis on the matrices of phenotypic variances and covariances; principal components with basis on the matrices of correlation and structural analysis. For the determination of the number of replications, the repeatability coefficients ranged from low to high in experiment I, except for the root variables, which presented high values in both experiments. In experiment II, in turn, the magnitudes of the determination coefficients were above 90%. For plant height, number of leaves, root length and dry matter of the aerial part, only two replications would be necessary to obtain 80% confidence. Regarding the number of measurements per parcel, only one plant could be evaluated in each parcel, with 85% confidence for both experiments. Only two replications and one measurement per parcel are enough for high estimates of repeatability. This way, adequate efficiency is obtained in the selection of superior materials for tolerance to water deficit, during the initial stages of soybean development.

ABSTRACT. Estimation of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) is very relevant for water resource management. The Penman-Monteith (PM) equation was proposed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the standard method for estimation of ETo. However, this method requires various weather data, such as air temperature, wind speed, solar radiation and relative humidity, which are often unavailable. Thus, the objective of this study was to compare the performance of multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and alternative equations, in their original and calibrated forms, to estimate daily ETo with limited weather data. Daily data from 2002 to 2016 from 8 Brazilian weather stations were used. ETo was estimated using empirical equations, PM equation with missing data and MARS. Four data availability scenarios were evaluated as follows: temperature only, temperature and solar radiation, temperature and relative humidity, and temperature and wind speed. The MARS models demonstrated superior performance in all scenarios. The models that used solar radiation showed the best performance, followed by those that used relative humidity and, finally, wind speed. The models based only on air temperature had the worst performance.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar as bactérias endofíticas de bananeira em nível de gênero e espécie e determinar as reações metabólicas associadas às transformações do nitrogênio. A identificação em níveis de gênero e espécie foi realizada por meio do sequenciamento parcial da região rDNA 16S. Foram avaliadas in vitro a capacidade de fixação assimbiótica de nitrogênio, a redução do nitrato e a produção de urease. O DNA dos isolados bacterianos também foi amplificado para a verificação da presença das regiões gênicas nifH, nirK e nirS. Os testes bioquímicos foram realizados em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, os tratamentos foram constituídos de 39 isolados bacterianos com três repetições. A análise das sequências possibilitou identificar quatro gêneros, Bacillus, Rhizobium, Klebsiela e Enterobacter. O gênero Bacillus ocorreu com maior frequência, nove espécies foram identificadas. Avaliando-se conjuntamente os resultados dos testes bioquímicos observou-se que três isolados apresentaram habilidades múltiplas: crescimento em meio NFb, redução de nitrato e produção de urease. Os isolados pertencem ao gênero Bacillus e das espécies subtilis, thuringienses e amyloliquefaciens. Em torno de 12% dos isolados amplificaram a região correspondente ao gene nifH, 7,5% o gene nirK, 3,9 % o gene nirS. As bactérias endofíticas avaliadas no presente estudo indicaram atividade in vitro para as enzimas urease e nitrato redutase, não apresentando, entretanto, atividade relevante da nitrogenase.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to characterize banana tree endophytic bacteria at genus and species level and to determine the metabolic reactions associated with the nitrogen transformations. The identification at genus and species levels was performed using the partial sequencing of the rDNA 16S region. The assimbyotic nitrogen fixation, the reduction of nitrate and the production of urease were in vitro evaluated. The DNA of the bacterial isolates was also amplified to verify the presence of the nifH, nirK and nirS regions. Biochemical tests were performed in a complete randomized design; the treatments consisted of 39 bacterial isolates with three replications. Sequence analysis enabled the identification of four genera: Bacillus, Rhizobium, Klebsiella and Enterobacter. The Bacillus genus occurred more frequently, nine species were identified. By evaluating the results of biochemical tests, it was observed that three isolates showed multiple abilities: growth in NFb medium, nitrate reduction and production of urease. The isolates belong to the genus Bacillus and of the species subtilis, thuringienses and amyloliquefaciens. Approximately 12.5% of the isolates amplified the region corresponding to the nifH gene, 7.5% amplified gene nirK and 3.9% amplified the nirS gene. Endophytic bacteria evaluated in the present study showed in vitro activity for urease, nitrate reductase enzymes, however, relevant nitrogenase activity was not observed.

RESUMO A estimativa da evapotranspiração de referência é um importante fator para estudos hidrológicos, projeto e manejo de sistemas de irrigação, dentre outros. A equação de Penman Monteith apresenta elevada precisão e acurácia na estimativa desta variável. No entanto, o uso desta se torna limitado devido ao grande número de dados meteorológicos requeridos. Neste contexto, a equação de Hargreaves-Samani pode ser utilizada como alternativa, contudo, requer uma calibração local para a obtenção de melhores performances. Assim, objetivou-se comparar o processo de calibração da equação de Hargreaves-Samani via regressão linear, via ajuste dos coeficientes (A e B) e expoente (C) da equação e via combinações das duas alternativas anteriores. Foram utilizados dados diários de 6 estações meteorológicas, situadas no estado de Minas Gerais, do período de 1997 a 2016. A calibração da equação de Hargreaves-Samani foi realizada de cinco formas: calibração via regressão linear, ajuste do parâmetro “A”, ajuste dos parâmetros “A” e “C”, ajuste dos parâmetros “A”, “B” e “C” e ajuste dos parâmetros “A”, “B” e “C” seguido de calibração por regressão linear. As performances dos modelos foram avaliadas com base nos indicadores estatísticos erro absoluto médio, erro de viés médio, índice de concordância de Willmott, coeficiente de correlação e índice de desempenho. Todas as metodologias estudadas promoveram melhores estimativas da evapotranspiração de referência. O ajuste simultâneo dos parâmetros empíricos “A”, “B” e “C” foi a melhor alternativa para calibração da equação de Hargreaves-Samani.

ABSTRACT The estimation of the reference evapotranspiration is an important factor for hydrological studies, design and management of irrigation systems, among others. The Penman Monteith equation presents high precision and accuracy in the estimation of this variable. However, its use becomes limited due to the large number of required meteorological data. In this context, the Hargreaves-Samani equation could be used as alternative, although, for a better performance a local calibration is required. Thus, the aim was to compare the calibration process of the Hargreaves-Samani equation by linear regression, by adjustment of the coefficients (A and B) and exponent (C) of the equation and by combinations of the two previous alternatives. Daily data from 6 weather stations, located in the state of Minas Gerais, from the period 1997 to 2016 were used. The calibration of the Hargreaves-Samani equation was performed in five ways: calibration by linear regression, adjustment of parameter “A”, adjustment of parameters “A” and “C”, adjustment of parameters “A”, “B” and “C” and adjustment of parameters “A”, “B” and “C” followed by calibration by linear regression. The performances of the models were evaluated based on the statistical indicators mean absolute error, mean bias error, Willmott’s index of agreement, correlation coefficient and performance index. All the studied methodologies promoted better estimations of reference evapotranspiration. The simultaneous adjustment of the empirical parameters “A”, “B” and “C” was the best alternative for calibration of the Hargreaves-Samani equation.
