RESUMO O jogo de Tênis de Mesa não envolve grandes deslocamentos do praticante no ambiente, característica que pode promover maior segurança ao idoso em termos locomotores. Além disso, precisa de coordenação, agilidade, velocidade de reação, equilíbrio dinâmico, que têm sido foco das atuais recomendações de atividade física para a saúde de adultos e idosos. O objetivo deste estudo é investigar os efeitos da prática de tênis de mesa na aptidão física e funcional de idosos. Esta pesquisa apresenta delineamento quase experimental com um desenho paralelo e controlado. A amostra foi composta por 16 idosos, alocados 8 no grupo experimental (GE) e 8 no grupo controle (GC). A pesquisa teve duração de 18 semanas, sendo 2 semanas de avaliação (inicial e final) e 16 semanas de intervenção. As avaliações da aptidão física foram realizadas por meio dos testes de agilidade e equilíbrio e aptidão funcional. Na comparação intragrupo (pré-pós intervenção), o GE apresentou diferença significativa para a variável agilidade (pré: 15,6 ± 1,2 s; pós: 14,7 ± 0,7s). Além disso, o GE apresentou redução na Área (pré: 11,00±3,32 cm2; pós: 6,52±3,06 cm2), Amplitude AP (pré: 4,92±2,77 cm; pós: 3,28±0,58 cm) e velocidade ML (pré: 2,77±1,07 cm/s; pós: 2,31±1,03 cm/s) na postura Tandem com os olhos abertos. Nossos achados destacam a importância de um programa de Tênis de Mesa, administrado duas vezes por semana e composto por atividades de baixa a moderada intensidade, para promover um efeito benéfico na agilidade e equilíbrio de idosos fisicamente ativos.

ABSTRACT The Table Tennis game does not involve large displacements by the practitioner in the environment, a characteristic that can promote greater safety for the elderly in locomotor terms. In addition, it needs coordination, agility, speed of reaction, dynamic balance, which have been the focus of current recommendations of physical activity for the health of adults and the elderly. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of table tennis practice on physical and functional fitness in the elderly. This quasi-experimental research with a parallel and controlled design. The sample consisted of 16 elderly people, allocated 8 in the experimental group (EG) and 8 in the control group (CG). The research lasted 18 weeks, with 2 weeks of evaluation (initial and final) and 16 weeks of intervention. Physical fitness assessments were carried out using the agility and balance and functional fitness tests. In the intra-group comparison (pre-post intervention), EG showed a significant difference for the variable agility (pre: 15.6 ± 1.2 s; post: 14.7 ± 0.7 s). Also, the EG showed a reduction in Area (pre: 11.00±3.32 cm2; post: 6.52±3.06 cm2), AP Amplitude (pre: 4.92±2.77 cm; post: 3.28±0.58 cm) and ML speed (pre: 2.77±1.07 cm/s; post: 2.31±1.03 cm/s) in the Tandem posture with eyes open. Our findings highlight the importance of a Table Tennis program, administered twice a week and consisted of low to moderate intensity activities, to promote a beneficial effect on the agility and balance of physically active elderly people.

Abstract Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of different backpack loads on the walking gait kinematics and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) in Brazilian scholars. Methods: The sample was composed of 25 male children and adolescents, from 10 to 14 years. The mean body mass and height were 45.3 kg ± 10.6 kg and 1.51 m ± 0.08 m, respectively. For the walking gait assessment, a tridimensional analysis system was used. In the backpack conditions, loads of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% were applied according to the body weight of everyone. Kinematic variables and angular amplitudes of head, shoulders, thorax, pelvis, and knees in the sagittal plane were collected. The OMNI scale was used to assess the RPE. Results: The loads of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% promoted postural adjustments and alterations in the walking gait, in which the RPE presented a correlation with those alterations. The step in the left cycle altered from the baseline in the 5% (p = 0.006). The stride length altered from baseline in the 5% (p = 0.030) and 10% (p < 0.001) load conditions. The single support time was different from baseline in all conditions (p = 0.003; p = 0.012; p = 0.005; p = 0.006). The walking gait cadence was different in the comparison between baseline in the 5% (p = 0.003). Thorax amplitude altered in the 10% (p = 0.023), 15% (p = 0.033) and 20% (p = 0.005) load conditions in the left cycle. Conclusion: We concluded that the posture, RPE, and the gait kinematic altered according to the increase in the backpack load.

Abstract Aim: The objective of this study was to verify whether the match winners in the semifinals and finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014 were those who presented the highest frequency of pressing and intense behaviors in the recovery of ball possession. Methods: The sample was composed of 533 defensive tactical sequences performed by the four finalist teams in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The independent t-test was used to compare tactical indicators between winning and losing teams and the chi-square test (X2) was applied to assess the association between the variables. Results: In the first (X2 = 48.47; P < 0.01) and second halves of regular matches (X2 = 64.10; P < 0.01), the evaluated teams recovered the ball in the defensive zone. However, during the first and second periods of extra time, the highest frequencies of ball recovery were found in the middle defensive zone (P < 0.01). Conclusion: It is concluded that the semi-finalist and finalist teams from the 2014 FIFA World Cup sought to recover the ball in the defensive zone, and pressing opponent movements when they were losing the matches.

RESUMO A hidroginástica é uma atividade física que pode ajudar os idosos na prevenção de perdas funcionais como o equilíbrio postural. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os efeitos de um programa de hidroginástica com ênfase em exercícios dinâmicos em deslocamento sobre o equilíbrio corporal de idosos. A amostra foi dividida em dois grupos: grupo experimental (GE) (n=27, idade=67,33±5,53 anos) e grupo controle (GC) (n=10, idade=67,74±7,24 anos). O GE participou de duas aulas semanais de hidroginástica com duração de cinquenta minutos, durante dezesseis semanas. O equilíbrio postural foi mensurado pelo comportamento do Centro de Pressão (COP) utilizando uma plataforma de força. Observou-se nos resultados melhor desempenho no deslocamento total e na amplitude ântero-posterior do GE comparado ao GC. Também após o período de intervenção o GC apresentou significativo aumento da área do COP. Concluiu-se que a prática da hidroginástica, enfatizando exercícios com diferentes formas de deslocamentos, pode alterar significativamente os índices de equilíbrio postural.

ABSTRACT Hydrogymnastics is a physical activity that can help elderly in the prevention of function losses as postural balance. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a hydrogymnastics program with focus on moving dynamic exercises on the body balance of elderly. The sample was split into two groups: experimental group (EG) (n=27, age=67.33±5.33 years) and control group (CG) (n=10, age=67.74±7.24 years). EG took part in 50 minute-long hydrogymnastics classes twice a week, for 16 weeks. Postural balance was measured by the behavior of the Center of Pressure (COP) using a force platform, it was observed, in the results, a better performance in total movement and in the anteroposterior width in the EG when compared to the CG. Also after the intervention period, the CG showed a significant increase in the COP area. It was concluded that, hydrogymnastics practice, with emphasis on exercises with different movement possibilities, can significantly alter the postural balance rates.

RESUMEN La hidrogimnasia es una actividad física que puede ayudar a los ancianos en la prevención de pérdidas funcionales como el equilibrio postural. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar los efectos de un programa de hidrogimnasia con el énfasis en los ejercicios dinámicos en el desplazamiento sobre el equilibrio corporal de los ancianos. La muestra fue dividida en dos grupos: el grupo experimental (GE) (n = 27, edad = 67,33 ± 5,53 años) y el grupo control (GC) (n = 10, edad = 67,74 ± 7,24 años). El GE participó de dos clases semanales de hidrogimnasia con duración de cincuenta minutos, durante dieciséis semanas. El equilibrio postural fue mensurado por el comportamiento del Centro de Presión (COP) utilizando una plataforma de fuerza. Se observó en los resultados mejor desempeño en el desplazamiento total y en la amplitud antero-posterior del GE comparado al GC. También después del período de intervención el GC presentó significativo incremento del área del COP. Se concluyó que la práctica de la hidrogimnasia, enfatizando los ejercicios con diferentes maneras de desplazamientos, puede alterar significativamente los índices de equilibrio postural.

RESUMO Desordens no padrão motor da marcha têm sido comumente encontradas em indivíduos com síndrome de Down. O presente estudo avaliou o comportamento angular do joelho de crianças com síndrome de Down ao longo de vinte e quatro meses de acompanhamento. A amostra foi constituída por 20 crianças, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 24 e 83 meses. A tarefa proposta foi caminhar em linha reta, na velocidade autosselecionada. O modelo biomecânico foi representado pelo posicionamento externo de marcadores retrorrefletivos nas articulações trôcanter maior do fêmur, centro articular do joelho e maléolo lateral do hemicorpo direito. Para registro e análise biomecânica utilizou-se a cinemetria bidimensional. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se análise descritiva e os testes comparativos Anova One-Way e Kruskal-Wallis. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas nos valores angulares do joelho entre diferentes faixas etárias. As crianças analisadas apresentaram valores regulares para a flexão máxima do joelho no contato inicial e a flexão máxima do joelho na fase de balanço apresentou flexão excessiva ao longo do tempo.

ABSTRACT Disabilities in the gait motor pattern have been commonly found in individuals with Down Syndrome. This study evaluated the knee angle behavior of children with Down Syndrome for 24 months. The sample comprised 20 male and female children aged between 24 and 83 months. Participants had to walk straight in a speed of preference. We represented the biomechanical model by the external positioning of retroreflective markers in the greater trochanter of the femur, in the knee joint center, and the lateral ankle joint of the right hemibody. For registration and biomechanical analysis, we used two-dimensional kinematics. For data analysis, we used descriptive and comparative analysis of One-Way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests. There were no significant differences in the knee angle values between different ages. The examined children showed regular values for knee maximum flexion at initial contact and knee maximum flexion at the swing phase, and excessive flexion over time.

RESUMÉN Desordenes en el patrón motor de la marcha están siendo comúnmente encontrados en los individuos con síndrome de Down. El presente estudio evaluó el comportamiento angular de la rodilla de niños con síndrome de Down a lo largo de veinticuatro meses de acompañamiento. La muestra fue constituida por 20 niños, de ambos sexos, con la edad entre 24 y 83 meses. La tarea propuesta fue la de caminar en línea recta, en la velocidad autoseleccionada. El modelo biomecánico fue representado por el posicionamiento externo de los marcadores retrorreflectantes en las articulaciones trocánter mayor del fémur, centro articular de la rodilla y maléolo lateral del hemicuerpo derecho. Para el registro y el análisis biomecánico se utilizó la cinemetría bidimensional. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el análisis descriptivo y las pruebas comparativas Anova One-Way y Kruskal-Wallis. No fueron encontradas diferencias significativas en los valores angulares de la rodilla entre distintas franjas de edad. Los niños analizados presentaron valores regulares para la flexión máxima de la rodilla en el contacto inicial y la flexión máxima de la rodilla en la etapa de balanceado que presentó flexión excesiva a lo largo del tiempo.

RESUMO O objetivo foi comparar as variáveis espaço-temporais do ciclo da marcha em crianças com Síndrome de Down em função da idade. Um estudo longitudinal foi conduzido com 20 crianças, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 24 e 83 meses. Técnicas convencionais foram usadas nos procedimentos metodológicos para registrar a antropometria e a técnica cinematográfica bidimensional para quantificar as variáveis espaço-temporais das suas marchas em relação às variáveis globais e parciais. Os resultados mostraram diferenças no comportamento das variáveis antropométricas e cinemáticas, comprimento da passada, frequência da passada e tempo do primeiro apoio simples nas crianças com Síndrome de Down entre 24-59 meses e 60-83 meses de idade. O padrão de marcha das crianças ao longo dos anos se estabeleceu pela alteração da frequência do que pelo comprimento da passada para o desenvolvimento da velocidade de marcha. Conclui-se que as modificações do comportamento das variáveis antropométricas e espaço-temporais da marcha de crianças com Síndrome de Down parecem ser pouco evidentes entre 24 e 59 meses de idade.

ABSTRACT The main purpose was to compare the spatiotemporal variables of the gait cycle in children with Down Syndrome as a function of age. A longitudinal study was conducted with 20 children, of both genders, aged between 24 and 83 months. Conventional techniques were used in the methodological procedures to record the children's anthropometry and two-dimensional cinematographic techniques for quantification of the spatiotemporal variables of their gait in relation to the global and partial variables. The results showed differences in the behavior of the anthropometric and kinematic variables, stride time, stride frequency, and time of first simple support in children with Down Syndrome between the age of 24-59 months and 60-83 months. The children's gait pattern over the years was established by the changes in frequency instead of the changes in the stride length for the development of gait speed. In conclusion the Behavior modifications in the anthropometric and spatiotemporal variables of the gait in children with Down Syndrome appear to be barely evident between 24 and 59 months of age.

Estudos descrevem que o uso de salto alto exige do corpo uma série de ajustes compensatórios, a fim de manter os seus movimentos e equilíbrio próximos à normalidade. No andar, a interferência do salto alto sobre o pé e sobre a articulação do tornozelo parece desencadear uma postura diferente da posição anatômica. O presente estudo teve como objetivos comparar a cinemática sagital do tornozelo em diferentes calçados e verificar a existência de um limite de altura de salto que possa levar a articulação do tornozelo a adaptações durante o andar. Esta pesquisa, caracterizada como experimental, foi constituída por uma análise cinemática bidimensional do tornozelo no plano sagital. A amostra foi composta por dez universitárias, com média de idade de 19,2 (±1,8) anos, que caminharam sobre uma esteira utilizando um tênis e três sandálias do tipo tamanco, com saltos de 3, 7 e 10 cm. Para cada ciclo de passada, foram identificados picos de movimento do tornozelo referentes à dorsiflexão e à flexão plantar. Os resultados mostraram que na flexão plantar, com o aumento da altura do salto, há uma tendência de acentuação do pico angular do tornozelo. Concluiu-se que saltos acima de 3 cm de altura induzem a articulação do tornozelo a realizar uma flexão plantar sustentada, mudando as características da marcha na fase de apoio e de balanço. Tais evidências sugerem alturas de saltos menores de 3 cm como limites de segurança para manutenção do padrão normal da marcha em mulheres jovens.

Studies have described that using high heels requires a series of compensatory adjustments of the body to keep its movements and balance close to normality. When walking, the interference of high heels on the foot and on the ankle joint seems to initiate a different posture from the anatomical position. The present study aimed at comparing the sagittal kinematics of the ankle in different shoes and at verifying the existence of a height heel limit, which could lead the ankle joint to physiological adaptations during walking. This research, characterized as experimental, consisted of a bidimensional kinematic analysis of the ankle in the sagittal plane. The sample included ten university students, with mean age of 19.2 (±1.8) years-old, who walked on a treadmill using a pair of shoes and three clog-type sandals, with heels of 3, 7 and 10 cm. For each stride cycle, peaks of the ankle movement were identified, which concerned dorsiflexion and plantar flexion. The results showed that in the plantar flexion, with the heel height increase, there is a tendency of increasing the ankle angle peak. It was concluded that heels up to 3 cm high induce the ankle joint to conduct a sustained plantar flexion changing the characteristics of gait in the stance and swing phase. Such evidence suggest that heels with heights less than 3cm are safety limits for maintaining the normal pattern of the gait in young women.

O salto vertical além de possuir complexidade coordenativa, agrega ao indivíduo diferentes experiências motoras. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar quais movimentos da sequência desenvolvimentista apresentados por escolares do ensino fundamental têm associação com a faixa etária e o desempenho no salto vertical. Fizeram parte deste estudo 137 escolares de um colégio do município de Maringá, Paraná, com idade entre 7-10 (anos), estatura entre 1,19 e 1,63 metros, massa entre 20 e 60 kg, de ambos os sexos e matriculados até a quarta série do ensino fundamental. Como instrumentos da pesquisa, foram utilizados a matriz de Gallahue e Ozmun e uma plataforma de salto. No procedimento experimental, cada criança realizou três saltos. Em crianças de sete anos, constatou-se a presença de elevação de braços coordenados e simultânea. Em crianças de nove anos, constatou-se a presença de agachamento preparatório inconsistente e a ação de braços não coordenados com o tronco e a perna. Foi observada prevalência da ação dos membros superiores quando consideradas as associações significativas entre os elementos da sequência desenvolvimentista e o desempenho do salto vertical. Na faixa etária entre 7-10 (anos), a faixa etária e o desempenho do salto estão associados aos elementos da sequência desenvolvimentista da configuração total do corpo humano, preponderantemente relacionados aos membros superiores.

The vertical jump involves different levels of skill complexity and offers the individual a wide range of motor experiences. This study aimed to determine which movements in the developmental sequence performed by schoolchildren are associated with age and vertical jump performance. The sample consisted of 137 elementary school children of both sexes, aged 7-10y, with height of 1.19-1.63 m, and weight of 20-60 kg. All children were selected from first- to fourth-grade classrooms of a public school of the city of Maringá, state of Paraná, Brazil. A Gallahue & Ozmun matrix and a jumping platform were used as research instruments. During the experiment, each child performed three jumps. Simultaneous and coordinated upward arm lift was observed in 7-year-old children. Nine-year-old children showed inconsistent preparatory crouch and lack of coordination between upper limb and trunk/lower limb movements. A prevalence of upper limb motor acts was observed when considering the significant associations found between elements of the developmental sequence and vertical jump performance. In children aged 7-10y, age group and jumping performance are associated with elements of the developmental sequence of total body configuration, especially with regard to the upper limbs.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal elaborar e validar uma lista de checagem para a análise qualitativa da recepção de saque no voleibol (manchete e toque). Foram convidados especialistas da área de Educação Física para analisar o conteúdo da lista de checagem e participar da determinação das correlações intra-avaliadores e interavaliadores. Aplicou-se o teste de passe de antebraço, e as recepções de saque de seis escolares do sexo feminino (12 a 14 anos) foram filmadas e analisadas. Na lista, tanto a manchete quanto o toque constaram de 4 fases de análise. Para a manchete: (I) posição inicial de expectativa, (II) movimentação em direção à bola, (III) entrelaçamento e (IV) contato. Para o toque: (I) posição inicial de expectativa, (II) flexão das pernas, (III) contato e (IV) extensão do corpo. O conteúdo da lista apresentou clareza satisfatória (66,7% de fácil entendimento), pertinência técnica apropriada (66,7% adequado e 16,7% muito adequado) e boa aplicabilidade (66,7% viável). Referindo-se à consistência e à reprodutibilidade, podemos afirmar que a lista é adequada em virtude de: (1) correlações intra-avaliadores altas para a maioria dos avaliadores, considerando as notas totais das atletas; (2) correlações interavaliadores altas quando comparadas às médias das notas das atletas. Os resultados alcançados fazem da lista de checagem um instrumento viável para os professores/treinadores analisarem a recepção de saque no voleibol.

The main purpose of this paper is to draw up and validate a checklist for serve reception qualitative analysis on the volleyball (conditioning and pass). Some education specialists of the area were invited to analyze the checklist contents and to take part in decision of intra and inter-assessors correlations. The forearms pass and pass reception tests were applied to six female scholars (from 6 up to 12 years old), and after they were recorded and analyzed. In this list conditioning and pass appeared in 4 stages: Conditioning (I) initial posture of expectancy, (II) motion towards the ball, (III) entwining and (IV) touch. Pass (I) initial posture of expectancy, (II) leg flexure, (III) touch and (IV) body stretching. List contents reported satisfactory clearness (66,7% easily understandable), appropriated technical relevance (66,7% suitable and 16,7% very suitable) and good applicability (66,7% feasible). Referring to consistence and reproducibility we can declare the list is appropriated because of intra and inter assessors correlations what ware significant for the most of assessors regarding athletes' absolute marks (2) significant inter assessors correlations as compared to athletes' marks means. Achieved results make from the checklist a very good tool for teachers and coaches to analyze the pass reception on the volleyball.
