Compostos secundários presentes em plantas medicinais desempenham funções importantes em interações planta-patógeno, por ação antimicrobiana direta ou induzindo a síntese de mecanismos de defesa em outras plantas. Para verificar o efeito fungitóxico do eucalipto sobre o crescimento micelial de Rhizoctonia solani, Sclerotium rolfsii, Phytophthora sp, Alternaria alternata e Colletotrichum sublineolum, o extrato bruto (EB) foi incorporado ao BDA e o óleo essencial (OE) foi distribuído na superfície do meio com alça de Drigalski. A germinação de esporos de C. sublineolum também foi avaliada na presença de diferentes alíquotas de OE. Para verificar a indução de fitoalexinas, mesocótilos de sorgo foram aspergidos com EB a 20% ou então, mergulhados em suspensões do OE. Para a indução de gliceolina, 20 µL do EB foram colocados em cotilédones de soja. A presença de compostos fungitóxicos no OE e EB através da cromatografia de camada delgada também foi avaliada. Os resultados evidenciaram inibição do crescimento micelial dos fungos para concentrações do EB acima de 20%. Todas as alíquotas do óleo inibiram o crescimento micelial dos fungos testados, com exceção de R. solani cuja inibição ocorreu para alíquotas acima de 20µL. Houve inibição de 100% na germinação dos conídios para todas as alíquotas do OE testadas na primeira metodologia, porém, na segunda metodologia o OE não promoveu inibição da germinação de esporos. Entretanto, foram observadas alterações na morfologia dos tubos germinativos e inibição da formação de apressórios. Observou-se a presença de apenas uma fração fungitóxica no OE, e o EB não apresentou frações fungitóxicas. Houve a produção de fitoalexinas apenas em mesocótilos de sorgo tratados com o EB.

Secondary compounds found in medicinal plants play important role in plant-pathogen interactions by having direct antimicrobian effect on them or inducing the defense mechanisms on defense of other plants. To verify the fungi toxic effect of the eucalyptus on the micelial growth of Rhizoctonia solani, Sclerotium rolfsii, Phytophthora sp, Alternaria alternata and Colletotrichum sublineolum, the crude extract (CE) was incorporate to PDA and the essential oil (EO) and distributed in the surface of the middle with Drigalski loop. Germination of spores of C. sublineolum was also evaluated in the presence of different brackets of EO using two methodologies. In order to verify the induction phytoalexins sorghum mesocotyls were asperged with CE to 20% or then dived in suspensions of EO. For the gliceolin induction, 20 µL of CE were put in cotyledons soybean. The presence of fungitoxic compounds in EO and CE through the thin layer chromatography was also evaluated. The results evidenced inhibition of the fungus micelial growth for concentrations of CE above 20%. All of the aliquots of the oil inhibited micelial growth micelial fungi, except for R. solani whose inhibition happened for aliquots above 20µL. There was inhibition of 100% in conidia germination for all of the aliquots of EO tested in the first methodology. However, in the second methodology EO did not promote inhibition of conidia germination. It was observed the presence of one fraction fungitoxic in EO, and CE did not present fungitoxic fractions. There was the phytoalexins production just in sorghum mesocotyls treated with CE.

O patógeno Sclerotinia sclerotiorum é um fungo que sobrevive no solo e causa a doença conhecida como mofo branco ou podridão de esclerotínia na cultura da alface (Lactuca sativa) e outras culturas. A doença é considerada de difícil controle, uma vez que o fungo é muito agressivo e produzem estruturas de resistência, os escleródios. Na busca de novos métodos de controle de doenças, os extratos de plantas com propriedades terapêuticas surgem como opção. Neste trabalho avaliou-se o efeito do extrato bruto aquoso (EBA) de gengibre (Zingiber officinalis) nas concentrações de 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25% sobre o crescimento micelial e produção de escleródios de S. sclerotiorum, in vitro. Também foi verificada a eficiência do gengibre na proteção de plantas de alface cultivadas organicamente e inoculadas com o patógeno. Além da incidência da doença, foi analisado o rendimento da cultura e a atividade de peroxidase nos tecidos da planta. Água e o indutor de resistência acibenzolar-S-metil foram utilizados como tratamentos controle. Adicionalmente, a capacidade elicitora do EBA de gengibre em proporcionar o acúmulo das fitoalexinas deoxiantocianidina e gliceolina foi avaliada em bioensaios com sorgo e soja, respectivamente. Os resultados indicaram a atividade antimicrobiana dos EBA de gengibre, com inibição do crescimento micelial e da produção de escleródios. Na cultura da alface, verificou-se que a aplicação de massa de gengibre na base da planta aumentou a atividade da enzima peroxidase e reduziu a incidência da doença. A presença de compostos elicitores no EBA de gengibre foi observada pela indução da produção de fitoalexinas em sorgo e soja, que ocorreu de maneira dose-dependente. Estes resultados indicam o potencial de Z. officinalis para o controle de S. sclerotiorum em alface, o qual pode ocorrer tanto por atividade antimicrobiana direta quanto pela ativação de mecanismos de defesa das plantas.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a soilborne fungus and causes white mold, sclerotinia cottony rot in lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and other crops. The control of this disease is very difficult, since that fungus produces resistance structures, the sclerodia. In the search of new methods for disease control, the plant extracts with therapeutical properties arise as a new option. The effect of aqueous crude extract (ACE) of ginger (Zingiber officinalis) was evaluated in vitro at concentrations of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% on S. sclerotiorum mycelial growth and sclerodia production. The efficiency of ginger on the production of lettuce plants was also verified in plants and inoculated with the pathogen. Disease incidence, crop yield and peroxidase activity were analyzed in plant tissue. Water and the resistance inducer agent acibenzolar-S-methyl were used as control. Additionally, the ability of ACE in inducing accumulation of phytoalexins 3-deoxyanthocyanidin and glyceollin was evaluated in sorghum and soybean bioassays, respectively. The results showed the antimicrobial activity of ginger on the inhibition of mycelial growth and sclerodia production. In the lettuce crop, it was observed that the application of ginger mass on the soil close to plants basis increased of peroxidase activity and reduced disease incidence. The presence of elicitor compounds in the ACE was detected by the production of phytoalexins in sorghum and soybean, with dose-dependent responses. These results showed the potential of Z. officinalis on the control of S. sclerotiorum in lettuce that can occur by antimicrobial activity and defense mechanisms induction.
