RESUMO Este artigo apresenta os principais resultados de uma pesquisa sobre Trabalho Escravo Contemporâneo, financiada pela Organização Internacional do Trabalho e realizada no município de Açailândia (MA), com trabalhadores resgatados. A partir da estratégia metodológica dos grupos focais, o objetivo foi analisar a experiência de trabalhadores que vivenciaram o processo de escravização que culmina no trabalho escravo, a partir de suas construções narrativas. ABSTRACT This article presents the main results of a research on contemporary slave labor, financed by the International Labour Organization , with rescued workers in the city Açailândia (MA). Using the focal groups method, the objective was to analyze the experience of workers who underwent the process of slavery that culminated in slave labor, based on their narrative constructions. As a consequence of its capability of creating high level abstractions from data, deep learning has been effectively employed in a wide range of applications, including physics. Though deep learning can be, at first and simplistically understood in terms of very large neural networks, it also encompasses new concepts and methods. In order to understand and apply deep learning, it is important to become familiarized with the respective basic concepts. In this text, after briefly revising some works relating to physics and deep learning, we introduce and discuss some of the main principles of deep learning as well as some of its principal models. More specifically, we describe the main elements, their use, as well as several of the possible network architectures. A companion tutorial in Python has been prepared in order to complement our approach.

ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor T-cells (CAR-T cells) are a new modality of oncological treatment which has demonstrated impressive response in refractory or relapsed diseases, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), lymphomas, and myeloma but is also associated with unique and potentially life-threatening toxicities. The most common adverse events (AEs) include cytokine release syndrome (CRS), neurological toxicities, such as the immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), cytopenias, infections, and hypogammaglobulinemia. These may be severe and require admission of the patient to an intensive care unit. However, these AEs are manageable when recognized early and treated by a duly trained team. The objective of this article is to report a consensus compiled by specialists in the fields of oncohematology, bone marrow transplantation, and cellular therapy describing recommendations on the Clinical Centers preparation, training of teams that will use CAR-T cells, and leading clinical questions as to their use and the management of potential complications.

ABSTRACT Extraordinary progress has been made over the last decade in the treatment of multiple myeloma with the incorporation of new drugs, particularly proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulators, and monoclonal antibodies. The combined use of innovative drugs, already in the first lines of treatment, has led to an expressive increase in the survival of these patients. However, the approach to relapse remains a great challenge, and the disease continues to be incurable. In this scenario, modern immunotherapy has gained the limelight, especially with its recent use of CAR-T cells in clinical trials, as in the case of multiple myeloma, having the BCMA as the primary target. The results are impactful in the treatment of multiple myeloma patients who have had multiple relapses and are triple- and penta-refractory. In this Consensus, we have brought together a group of experts in multiple myeloma to discuss and forward their recommendations for the future, which we hope is very near, incorporating the CAR-T in our country.

With the onset of areas such as complex systems, network science, and artificial intelligence, efforts have been invested in modeling science itself. In the present work, we report a related approach to modeling the influence of the complexity of knowledge on the respective prospects for scientific advancement. More specifically, we focus on the question of how much the topological complexity of the knowledge network can influence the prospects for scientific advancement. Once the knowledge has been represented as a complex network, we consider one of its subnetworks, the nucleus, as representing the currently known portion of that network. The relative number of nodes adjacent to the nucleus, and the ratio between this quantity and the quantity of edges interconnecting the nucleus with the remainder of the network, are taken as quantifications of the potential for scientific advancement and the efficiency with which these advances can take place. Subsequent nucleus sizes are considered in both a simpler network (Erdos-Renyi) and a more complex model (Barabasi-Albert). The results surprisingly tended to vary little between these two models, suggesting that the complexity of the knowledge network may have little effect on the prospects for scientific advancement as modeled in the present approach.

Resumo: O conteúdo polínico de amostras de mel coletadas nos anos de 2017 e 2019 de apiários experimentais de Melipona seminigra pernigraMoure & Kerr 1950, instalado dentro de uma vegetação de campo rupestre em um afloramento de canga na Serra dos Carajás, sudeste da Amazônia, foi analisado para entender a variabilidade local dos recursos florais em áreas naturais e perturbadas. Aproximadamente 100% dos tipos polínicos foram identificados e pertencem principalmente às famílias Fabaceae, Myrtaceae e Euphorbiaceae (31, 6 e 5 espécies, respectivamente). Áreas de mineração apresentaram a maior riqueza de pólen, quase o dobro daquelas identificadas em áreas perturbadas. 80% dos tipos de pólen são raros com concentrações ≤ 2.000 grãos de pólen/10g, enquanto que os restantes foram os mais abundantes, frequentes e fontes primárias para as abelhas. Este últimos correspondem principalmente a plantas nativas como Tapirira guianensis Aubl., Protium spp., Aparisthmium cordatum (A.Juss.) Baill., Mimosa acutistipula var. ferrea Barneby, Periandra mediterrânea (Vell.) Taub., Miconia spp., Pleroma carajasense K.Rocha, Myrcia splendens (Sw.) DC., Serjania spp. e Solanum crinitum Lam. Todos os tipos polínicos foram identificados durante ambas as estações, mas altas concentrações estão relacionadas ao período seco (junho-setembro). A análise estatística indicou que não houve diferença significativa nos dados de pólen de mel entre áreas naturais e áreas anteriormente degradadas, uma vez que as fontes primárias das abelhas deste estudo são amplamente utilizadas na revegetação de áreas mineradas.

Abstract: Honey pollen samples of Melipona seminigra pernigraMoure & Kerr 1950 sampled between 2017 and 2019 from experimental apiaries installed in campo rupestre on canga (CRC) vegetation of the Serra dos Carajás aimed to evaluated seasonal floral availability of undisturbed and mining-influenced areas. Around one hundred pollen types were identified mainly belonging to Fabaceae, Myrtaceae and Euphorbiaceae (31, 6 and 5 species, respectively). Mining area presented the highest pollen richness, almost twice those identified in the undisturbed areas. 80% of the pollen types are rare with concentrations ≤ 2,000 pollen grains/10 g, while the remaining were the most abundant, frequent and the primary bee sources. These latter correspond mostly to native plants species such as Tapirira guianensis Aubl., Protium spp., Aparisthmium cordatum (A.Juss.) Baill., Mimosa acutistipula var. ferrea Barneby, Periandra mediterranea (Vell.) Taub., Miconia spp., Pleroma carajasense K.Rocha, Myrcia splendens (Sw.) DC., Serjania spp. and Solanum crinitum Lam. All pollen types were identified during both seasons, but higher concentration values are related to the dry period (June-September). The statistical analysis of the pollen data indicated that there was no significant difference between undisturbed and mining-influenced areas, since primary bee sources of this study are widespread used in revegetation of mined areas.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the static bending strength (fM) and modulus of elasticity (MOE) to static bending values of Eucalyptus grandis samples produced in different dimensions. It intended to identify samples that present similar mechanical properties to those recommended by other technical standards and those obtained according to NBR 7190. The samples were made in agreement with the dimensions of the following standards: IPT, AFNOR B51-016, ASTM D143, CEN-EN 408, COPANT 555, and NBR 7190. The strength was significantly reduced with the increase of the sample dimensions. The MOE was significantly influenced by the samples size with the values showing a parabolic trend. The samples produced according to COPANT 555 (5 x 5 x 75 cm) presented resistance values similar to the values obtained following NBR 7190 specifications, whereas for the MOE, the samples proposed according to the IPT presented the closest values of Brazilian technical standards (NBR 7190).

Abstract: The use of fast-growing trees is a good economic strategy for charcoal production. Wood with adequate chemical and physical properties generally is positively correlated with charcoal quality. The objective of this research was to evaluate wood quality from fast-growing hybrids for charcoal production. Three Corymbia citriodora x Corymbia torelliana and four Corymba torelliana x Corymba citriodora hybrid clones were evaluated. Parameters used to evaluate wood quality were wood basic density, elemental and structural chemical composition, energy efficiency and thermogravimetric analysis and the parameters evaluated for charcoal quality were apparent relative density, gravimetric yield, high heating value, proximate analysis and energy efficiency. All clones had wood basic density superior than 0,5 g cm-3 and ash inferior than 1%, which are desirable for a good quality of charcoal. Lignin content did not differ among clones with an average less than the 28% recommended for energetic use. Although clones differed in wood parameters, as dry matter, high heating value, energy density, total extractives, holocellulose content, it did not reflect in charcoal quality differences. Wood from all clones had equal and satisfying high heating value of charcoal and energy efficiency quality for charcoal production and differed in apparent relative density and ash content.

ABSTRACT Background: Diarrhea is frequently seen in autologous stem cell transplantation. Although toxicity related to conditioning is the most common cause, infectious pathogens can play a distinctive role particularly in certain regions and environments. Methods: The role of enteropathogens was investigated in 47 patients submitted to autologous stem cell transplantation at a Brazilian center between May 2011 and May 2013. All patients who presented with diarrhea consented to stool sample analysis to identify the etiological agents including coccidia, Strongyloides sp., Clostridium difficile and other pathogenic bacteria. Results: Thirty-nine patients (83%) had diarrhea, among whom seven (17.5%) presented with coccidia, three (7.5%) with Candida sp., one (2.5%) with C. difficile, and one (2.5%) with Giardia lamblia. There was a tendency toward a higher incidence of diarrhea in older patients (p-value = 0.09) and those who received conditioning with lomustine, etoposide, cytarabine, and melphalan (p-value = 0.083). Furthermore, the number of days of neutropenia was higher in patients with diarrhea (p-value = 0.06). Conclusions: The high frequency of diarrhea caused by coccidia shows the importance of investigating and correctly identifying etiological agents and highlights the possible varieties of intestinal infections in patients who undergo autologous stem cell transplantation.

This study investigates the mechanisms of interaction between benzophenone derivatives and cruzain and Llacys1 (the protein expressed by cysteine protease gene isoform 1 of L. amazonensis) by homology modelling, docking and molecular dynamics simulation. The results predict that the same binding site in cruzain and Llacys1 is involved in complexes with benzophenone derivatives that cause non-competitive inhibition of the enzymes. The Gln residue is conserved among the enzymes, and is shown to be a key residue in the allosteric site of these cysteine proteases and in the interaction with benzophenone derivatives. The binding free energies highlight that the main energetic term contributing to the cruzain- and Llacys1-benzophenone compound interactions is the van der Waals term. Experimental results showed that benzophenone derivatives are promising potential inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Moreover, we found that two benzophenone derivatives are the most effective inhibitors of cruzain and L. amazonensis cysteine protease.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to establish the correlation between the size of the wood knots and the modulus of elasticity (MOE) and the compressive strength (Fc) in Eucalyptus wood. 156 Eucalyptus urophylla samples with knots were separated into 3 classes (small, medium and large knots), and samples were selected from the same tree and submitted to the parallel fiber compression test for MOE and Fc determination. There was a significant difference between the MOE and Fc of the smaller knot class (Class 1) and the other classes with larger knots (Classes 2 and 3). In general, the larger the knot, the greater the difference between the MOE and Fc. Wood with small knots (8.31 mm2) presents stiffness and strength statistically equal to wood free of defects. Eucalyptus wood stiffness is more sensitive to the presence of knots than the strength when compared to clear wood samples.

RESUMO Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o impacto das políticas e práticas de recursos humanos (PPRH) sobre os comportamentos de cidadania organizacional (CCO). Os CCO refletem as contribuições extra papel das pessoas, fator esperado pelos gestores em tempos de mudança ou crises para a efetividade organizacional. No campo teórico, foram consideradas prioritariamente as obras de Milkovich e Boudreau (1994), Dessler (2002) e Demo (2012) para PPRH; e os trabalhos de Katz e Kahn (1978), Organ (1990) e Siqueira (2003) para CCO. Adotou-se uma abordagem quantitativa, envolvendo 156 trabalhadores de empresas privadas, públicas e mistas localizadas no estado de São Paulo, que responderam espontaneamente a questionários de autopreenchimento. Como resultados, identificou-se que, dentre as PPRH, somente o fator Envolvimento apresentou relação significativa com CCO. Já o conjunto de PPRH impacta com significância os fatores Divulgação da Imagem Organizacional e Sugestões Criativas.Os resultados indicam também áreas de atuação nas quais os gestores podem obter mais efetividade sobre os comportamentos extrapapel dos seus empregados.

ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate how policies and practices in human resources (PPHR) impact organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB). The OCBs represent additional contributions from employees to their organizations and, somehow, individual actions expected in crisis scenario or changing time by managers. The theoretical basis contains Milkovich and Boudreau (1994), Dessler (2002), Demo et al. (2012), among others, to address PPHR and Katz and Kahn (1978), Organ (1990) and Siqueira (2003) to OCB. We collect data from 156 employees of public, private and mixed companies located in the State of São Paulo. The results revealed significant impact from PPHR over OCB, and we evidence that only professional involvement exhibited significant relation. We also conclude that PPHR influence the dissemination of organizational image and creative suggestions from OCB factors. The results indicate suggestions where managers can act to extract, effectively, organizational citizenship behaviors from their employees.

In the present work, the application of a didactic activity proposed for the teaching-learning of mass transfer initial concepts unit operations for students of Introduction to Chemical Engineering course of a public institution was evaluated. For this, the class was separated in four moments: brief introduction to the subject, pre-test application, experimental activity and post-test application. Also, a survey of students' satisfaction about the activity was conducted by e-mail and on a voluntary basis. The results obtained from the pre- and post-test were analyzed using Wilcoxon's nonparametric statistical test. This way, it could be verified that the proposed didactic methodology contributed positively in the teaching-learning process of these students.
