ABSTRACT In semi-arid regions, where seasonal drought or irregular rainfall distribution are common occurrences, agricultural management techniques or strategies, such as the use of bone meal and/or hydrogel, can mitigate adverse conditions and ensure crop production. This study aimed to evaluate the efects of bone meal doses (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 g pit−1), in association or not with hydrogel (0 and 5 g pit−1, respectively), on the leaf nutrient content of the dwarf cashew cultivar BRS 226. The leaf nutrient contents were evaluated during two growing seasons. For being a good source of macronutrients, the bone meal increased the levels of N, P, Ca, K and Mg in the dwarf cashew leaves. Resumo Contexto A arterialização do arco venoso dorsal do pé é uma técnica indicada em casos de isquemia crítica de membros inferiores sem leito distal adequado que possibilite tratamento convencional, como revascularização, angioplastia ou tratamento clínico. Objetivos O propósito do trabalho foi apresentar o resultado da arterialização do arco venoso do pé em 16 pacientes submetidos a essa técnica. Métodos Tratou-se de um estudo analítico descritivo retrospectivo transversal, baseado na revisão de prontuários de 16 pacientes submetidos à arterialização do arco venoso dorsal do pé para salvamento de membro, entre janeiro de 2016 a janeiro de 2021. Resultados Dos 16 pacientes submetidos à arterialização do arco venoso do pé, 25% (4) evoluíram para amputação maior durante a mesma internação, e 6,25% (1) pacientes evoluíram para amputação maior após 6 meses. Abstract Background Arterialization of the dorsal venous arch of the foot is a technique indicated in cases of critical lower limb ischemia that do not have a distal bed that is adequate to enable conventional treatment such as revascularization, angioplasty, or clinical treatment. Objectives The purpose of this study is to present the result of arterialization of the venous arch of the foot in 16 patients who underwent treatment with this technique. Methods This is a cross-sectional retrospective descriptive analytical study based on a review of the medical records of 16 patients who underwent arterialization of the dorsal venous arch of the foot for limb salvage from January 2016 to January 2021. Results Four (25%) of the 16 patients who underwent arterialization of the venous arch of the foot underwent a major amputation during the same hospital stay and one patient (6.25%) had a major amputation within 6 months. The other 11 patients (68.75%) had their limbs preserved, with 10 undergoing minor amputations (toes and forefoot) and one patient having no additional procedures. ABSTRACT High-sugar dehydrated foods have strong hygroscopicity, which can be avoided by using drying aids. One way to assess the hygroscopic behavior is through sorption isotherms. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of maltodextrin concentration on sorption isotherms of powdered cajá-manga pulp in spray-dryer, lyophilization and fluidized bed spray drying processes. The dryings were carried out in a spray-dryer, lyophilizer and fluidized bed, with 10%, 20% and 30% of maltodextrin. Adsorption isotherms were determined by the static gravimetric method using salt solutions for a relative humidity range of 21% to 90%. The GAB, BET, Henderson, and Oswin models were adequate to the experimental data. The relative deviation between the experimental values and the estimated values was calculated for each curve, in order to assess which equation best fit the experimental data. The mean relative error value of less than 10% was considered one of the criteria for selecting the models. RESUMO: Diferentes tipos de volumosos podem causar perdas na composição química e digestibilidade da gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium [Jacq.] Kunth ex Walp.) dependendo de sua confecção e do manejo da alimentação. O objetivo deste estudo foi sumarizar dados de trabalhos científicos com gliricídia e comparar seu valor nutritivo em diferentes formas de alimentação, sob uma abordagem de revisão sistemática e análise de componentes principais (ACP). Realizou-se um levantamento robusto de trabalhos científicos em web indexadores de periódicos, e em base de dados, de 1990 a 2023. Dados de 100 trabalhos foram sumarizados e analisados. Em 40% dos trabalhos, o valor nutricional da gliricídia foi determinado como folhas in natura, enquanto 30% foi na forma de ‘folhas + caules finos’, em 11% das oportunidades, a gliricídia foi avaliada na forma de silagem, seguido por 10% como farelo de folhas, e 9% como feno. ABSTRACT: Different types of supplied roughage may cause losses in the chemical composition and digestibility of gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium [Jacq.] Kunth ex Walp.) depending on their making and fed-out management. This study has summarized data from scientific studies on gliricidia and compared its nutritional value in various fed forms using a systematic review approach and principal component analysis (PCA). A robust survey of scientific papers was realized on web indexes of periodicals and databases from 1990 to 2023. Data from 100 scientific researches has been compiled and analyzed. In 40% of the trials, the gliricidia nutritional value was determined as fresh leaves, while 30% was in the form of ‘leaves + thin stems’. Gliricidia was evaluated as silage in 11% of the opportunities, followed by 10% as leaf meal and 9% as hay. RESUMO Os modelos hidrológicos tradicionais têm sido amplamente utilizados em estudos hidrológicos, fornecendo representações credíveis da realidade. Este artigo introduz um modelo híbrido que combina o modelo hidrológico tradicional Soil Moisture Accounting Procedure (SMAP) com o algoritmo de aprendizado de máquina XGBoost. Aplicado à bacia de Sobradinho no Brasil, o modelo híbrido tem como objetivo produzir previsões de vazão mais precisas em um horizonte de três meses. Este estudo utiliza previsões de chuvas do North America Multi Model Ensemble (NMME) como entradas do SMAP para produzir previsões de vazão. O estudo avalia as previsões do NMME, corrige viés usando mapeamento de quantis e calibra o modelo SMAP para a região de estudo de 1984 a 2010 usando a Otimização por Enxame de Partículas (PSO). A avaliação do modelo abrange o período de 2011 a 2022. ABSTRACT Traditional hydrological models have been widely used in hydrologic studies, providing credible representations of reality. This paper introduces a hybrid model that combines the traditional hydrological model Soil Moisture Accounting Procedure (SMAP) with the machine learning algorithm XGBoost. Applied to the Sobradinho watershed in Brazil, the hybrid model aims to produce more precise streamflow forecasts within a three-month horizon. This study employs rainfall forecasts from the North America Multi Model Ensemble (NMME) as inputs of the SMAP to produce streamflow forecasts. The study evaluates NMME forecasts, corrects bias using quantile mapping, and calibrates the SMAP model for the study region from 1984 to 2010 using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Model evaluation covers the period from 2011 to 2022. An XGBoost model predicts SMAP residuals based on the past 12 months, and the hybrid model combines SMAP's streamflow forecast with XGBoost residuals. Resumo A ensilagem da maniçoba (Manihot pseudoglaziovii) é importante para preservar os nutrientes dessa planta forrageira. Todavia, o teor de umidade da planta pode gerar fermentações indesejáveis. Objetivou-se avaliar efeito de níveis de fubá de milho (0, 10, 20 e 30%) sobre a composição bromatológica e parâmetros fermentativos da silagem de maniçoba, além de identificar as variáveis mais afetada pelo aditivo. As concentrações de matéria seca (MS), carboidratos não-fibrosos (CNF), nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) e ácido propiônico aumentaram em função dos níveis de fubá de milho (P<0,05). Os teores de proteína bruta (PB), lignina e ácido butírico, além do pH, foram reduzidos pelo aditivo (P<0,05). Dois grupos foram formados na análise de componentes principais. O grupo I foi formado por variáveis afetadas positivamente pela inclusão do fubá de milho: MS, hemicelulose, CNF e NDT. Abstract Ensiling maniçoba (Manihot pseudoglaziovii) is essential to preserve the nutrients of this forage plant. However, the plant moisture content may generate undesirable fermentations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different cornmeal inclusion levels (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%) on the chemical composition and fermentation parameters of maniçoba silage, in addition to identifying the variables most affected by cornmeal. The concentrations of dry matter (DM), non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC), total digestible nutrients (TDN), and propionic acid increased with cornmeal inclusion levels (P < 0.05). Crude protein (CP), lignin, and butyric acid contents, as well as pH, were reduced by the additive (P < 0.05). Principal component analysis resulted in two main groups. Group I was formed by variables positively affected by cornmeal inclusion, namely DM, hemicellulose, NFC, and TDN. Group II contained variables that were negatively affected by cornmeal, namely CP, lignin, mineral matter, and butyric acid. Regardless of the addition of cornmeal, maniçoba silage displays an adequate chemical composition and a good fermentation profile for ruminant feeding. RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar a história de dor e de atendimento odontológico antes e durante a pandemia da COVID-19, assim como a resolutividade do problema odontológico em indivíduos com TEA sob a percepção dos cuidadores. Métodos: Cuidadores de indivíduos com TEA do estado do Rio Grande do Sul responderam a um formulário online. Responderam questões distribuídas em blocos sobre: I) dados de identificação do paciente com TEA e de seu cuidador; II) relato de acesso odontológico antes da pandemia (até março/2020) e III) relato de acesso odontológico durante a pandemia (março/2020 até 2022). Os dados foram tabulados e digitados em uma planilha do Microsoft Excel e analisados por meio de estatística descritiva. Resultados: dos 473 responsáveis por indivíduos com TEA que participavam dos grupos, 72 (15,2%) responderam à pesquisa e foram incluídos neste estudo. Antes da pandemia, 17 indivíduos com TEA haviam sentido dor de origem odontológica (23,7%). Desses, 12 (70,6%) permitiram o atendimento odontológico, segundo o relato dos familiares. Em relação à experiência de dor durante a pandemia, 20 indivíduos (27,8%) sentiram dor, sendo que 17 deles também haviam sentido dor antes da pandemia. ABSTRACT Objective: Assess the history of pain and dental care before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the resolution of the dental problems in individuals with ASD from the perspective of caregivers. Methods: Caregivers from three associations of individuals with ASD in the state of Rio Grande do Sul were invited to answer an online questionnaire. They answered questions distributed into three sections: I) identification data of the patient with ASD and his caregiver; II) perception of dental access before the pandemic (until March/2020) and III) perception of dental access during the pandemic (March/2020 until 2022). Data were tabulated into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Of the 473 caregivers for individuals with ASD in the contacted groups, 72 (15.2%) responded to the survey and were included in this study. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals with ASD had experienced dental pain (23.7%). Twelve of these (70.6%) allowed dental care, according to the caregivers’ reports. Regarding the experience of pain during the pandemic, 20 individuals with ASD (27.8%) felt pain, and 17 of them had also experienced pain before the pandemic. ABSTRACT Cashew trees are often cultivated in semi-arid regions with poor soil and limited rainfall, presenting significant challenges for soil management. This study aimed to evaluate soil fertility based on varying doses of bone meal (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 g pit−1), mixed into the planting pit with or without moisture-retaining hydrogel (0 and 5 g pit−1), in dwarf cashew ‘BRS 226’ cultivation. The soil chemical attributes were monitored over two growing seasons. The bone meal application increased the soil pH by 221 % along the two years and boosted the organic matter by 13 % in the first year and 28 % in the second one. The use of 5 g of hydrogel per pit, combined with 1,000 g of bone meal per pit, is recommended to improve the soil fertility in semi-arid cashew-growing areas over a two-year period. ABSTRACT The present article presents the outcomes of the normative research on the combat against the COVID-19 pandemic at the National Health Council (Conselho Nacional de Saúde - CNS) from February 2020 to March 2022. This is a documental, descriptive-analytical study, with qualitative approach, using the technical analysis of content. Seventy-seven acts were issued by the CNS Collegiate, there included 63 recommendations, 6 opinions, 5 motions, 2 technical notes and 1 resolution. Most part of the documents (59%) were worked out during the first year of the pandemic. Despite the Council’s performance when combating the COVID-19, non-binding acts may be highlighted, the CNS normative production concentrating in merely guidance recommendations.

Abstract Thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA) are rare diseases, with high morbimortality. Among them, atypical hemolytic ure-mic syndrome (HUS), associated with deregulation of alternative complement pathway (genetic/acquired), represents a diagnostic challenge. Characterized by thrombotic microangiopathy, acute renal failure is one of its main features. Etiological/precipitant detection (TMA triggers) is essential, even though about 30% of cases remain idiopathic. There is not a direct diagnostic test, which makes this an exclusion final diagnosis (after primary and secondary causes are ruled-out). Further testing for genetic variations is important for prognostic purposes. We describe the case of a 40 years old woman, whose final diagnostic was an atypical HUS associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. This case stands out by its rarity. We underline the importance of prompt initial diagnosis and timely target treatment beginning: Eculizumab, the only one available in Portugal at the moment. Plasmapheresis and/or renal replacement therapy must be considered case by case.

Abstract: Background: Having a glioblastoma is still a synonym of a very poor prognosis. In this population, end-of-life signs and symptoms differ from the rest of the cancer population. Objective: To identify the main signs and symptoms that occur in patients with glioblastoma in their last seven days of life in a neuro-oncology ward. Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study. Sample composed of people with glioblastoma in the last seven days of life, hospitalized in the neurology ward, with medical and nursing records. Admission in the institution through neuro-oncology consultation between 2019/2020. Data collection was performed through patient’s clinical records analysis. Results: The sample has 17 people. The most prevalent signs and symptoms were: “decreased level of consciousness” (94%); “rare and unexpected events” (94%); “respiratory dysfunction” (88%) and “loss of ability to swallow” (76%). Conclusions: The study allowed responding to the research objective. The results underline the importance of carrying out studies with more representative samples, given that most studies are found to be focused on the cancer population in general.

Resumo: Introdução: O diagnóstico de glioblastoma continua a ser associado a um prognóstico reservado. Os sinais e sintomas de fim de vida destas pessoas diferem da restante população oncológica. Objetivo: Identificar os principais sinais e sintomas presentes nos últimos sete dias de vida do doente com glioblastoma num serviço de neurologia oncológica. Métodos: Estudo descritivo e retrospetivo. A amostra inclui pessoas com diagnóstico de glioblastoma com registo médico e de enfermagem nos últimos sete dias de vida, internados no serviço de Neurologia e admitidos na instituição pela consulta de neuro-oncologia entre 2019/2020. A colheita de dados foi realizada através da análise dos processos. Resultados: A amostra é composta por 17 pessoas. Os principais sinais e sintomas presentes nos últimos sete dias de vida foram: “diminuição do nível de consciência” (94%); “acontecimentos raros e inesperados” (94%); “disfunção respiratória” (88%) e “perda da capacidade de engolir” (76%). Conclusões: O estudo realizado permitiu dar resposta ao objetivo definido. Contudo, considera-se importante a realização de estudos nesta população com amostras mais representativas, uma vez que a maioria da literatura se encontra centrada na população oncológica em geral.

Abstract Context: The elderly population faces increasing difficulties arising from loneliness, depression and social isolation. The literature has shown the potential of using ICT to alleviate psychological distress and improve quality of life. Objective: To analyze the relationships between feelings of loneliness, depressive symptoms, and the impact of the use of and attitude towards ICT in the elderly. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study which included 669 subjects aged between 60 and 94 years. Through self-report instruments, feelings of loneliness (UCLA-LS), depressive symptomatology (GDS-15) and the use of and attitude towards ICT were assessed. Results: Women evidenced higher levels of depressive symptomatology and feelings of loneliness. The elderly aged over 80 years reported higher levels of loneliness (in the UCLA-LS Affinities subscale) and the 60-69 age group showed the highest rate of ICT use. The presence of feelings of loneliness was associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms, and ICT use was associated with fewer depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Aging can be lived with less depressive symptomatology if the elderly feels less isolated. The use of ICT, as a communication tool, may have a positive impact on their psychological well-being, as it is associated with lower levels of depression.

Resumen Contexto: La población anciana se enfrenta a crecientes dificultades derivadas de la soledad, la depresión y el aislamiento social. La literatura ha demostrado el potencial del uso de las TIC para aliviar el malestar psicológico y mejorar la calidad de vida. Objetivos: Analizar las relaciones entre los sentimientos de soledad, la sintomatología depresiva y el impacto del uso y la actitud hacia las TIC en las personas mayores. Metodología: Se trata de un estudio transversal en el que participaron 669 sujetos con edades comprendidas entre los 60 y los 94 años. Mediante instrumentos de autoinforme se evaluó la presencia de sentimientos de soledad (UCLA-LS), la sintomatología depresiva (GDS-15) y el uso y la actitud hacia las TIC. Resultados: Las mujeres mostraron mayores niveles de sintomatología depresiva y sentimientos de soledad. Los mayores de 80 años fueron los que declararon niveles más altos de soledad (en la subescala de Afinidades) y el grupo de edad de 60-69 años fue el que más utilizó las TIC. La presencia de sentimientos de soledad se asoció con niveles más altos de síntomas depresivos y el uso de las TIC se asoció con menos síntomas depresivos. Conclusiones: Se puede vivir el envejecimiento con menos sintomatología depresiva si las personas mayores se sienten menos aisladas. El uso de las TIC, como herramienta de comunicación, puede tener un impacto positivo en su bienestar psicológico, ya que se asocia a niveles más bajos de depresión.

A literatura tem evidenciado o potencial da utilização das TIC para atenuar o sofrimento psicológico e melhorar a qualidade de vida. Objetivos: O presente estudo pretendeu analisar as relações entre sentimentos de solidão, sintomatologia depressiva e impacto da utilização e atitude face às TIC, em idosos. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo transversal que incluiu 669 sujeitos, com idades entre os 60 e 94 anos. Através de instrumentos de autorresposta avaliou-se a presença de sentimentos de solidão (UCLA-LS), sintomatologia depressiva (GDS-15) e a utilização e atitude face às TIC. Resultados: As mulheres evidenciaram níveis mais elevados de sintomatologia depressiva e sentimentos de solidão. Os idosos com mais de 80 anos relataram maiores níveis de solidão (na subescala Afinidades) e a faixa etária entre os 60-69 anos apresentou uma maior taxa de utilização das TIC. A presença de sentimentos de solidão relacionou-se com maiores níveis de sintomatologia depressiva e a utilização das TIC associou-se com menos sintomatologia depressiva. Conclusões: O envelhecimento pode ser vivido com menos sintomatologia depressiva se os idosos se sentirem menos isolados. A utilização das TIC, como ferramenta de comunicação, pode ter um impacto positivo no seu bem-estar psicológico, pois associa-se a menores níveis de depressão.

RESUMO Considerando a relevância do cajueiro e a limitação imposta pelo estresse salino em regiões semiáridas, o uso de alternativas capazes de mitigar os efeitos deletérios em decorrência da salinidade são de grande importância ao setor produtivo. O uso de plantas enxertadas, principalmente com porta-enxertos de materiais tolerantes, influencia no acúmulo de íons tóxicos nas folhas das mudas enxertadas. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar características morfofisiológicas e concentração foliar de Na+, K+, Ca+2 de combinações de copa e porta-enxerto de cajueiro anão precoce, contrastantes à salinidade. O experimento foi realizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições, tendo os tratamentos dispostos em arranjo fatorial de 4 × 3, correspondentes a quatro combinações de mudas enxertadas (auto-enxerto CCP 09/CCP 09, CCP 09/CCP 76, auto-enxerto CCP 76/CCP 76 e CCP 76/CCP 09) e a três concentrações de NaCl (0-controle, 50 e 100 mM L-1). Foram avaliados altura, número de folhas, área foliar, massa seca, índice de tolerância e concentração foliar de Na+, K+ e Ca+2 após 30 dias da aplicação das concentrações de NaCl. A combinação copa/porta-enxerto CCP 76/09 apresentou tolerância à salinidade de 50 mM L-1, devido ao aumento da área foliar e número de folhas. A combinação copa/porta-enxerto CCP 76/09 foi mais adequada, pois manteve a concentração foliar de K+ e o menor concentração de Na+.

ABSTRACT Considering the cashew tree’s relevance and the limitations imposed by salinity stress in semi-arid regions, the use of alternatives capable of mitigating the harmful effects due to salinity is of great importance to the production sector. The use of grafted plants, especially with rootstock made of tolerant materials, influences the accumulation of toxic ions in leaves of grafted seedlings. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate morphophysiological characteristics and leaf concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca+2 of combinations of scion and rootstock of early dwarf cashew, contrasting in terms of salinity tolerance. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with five replicates, in a 4 × 3 factorial arrangement, corresponding to four dwarf cashew scion/rootstock combinations (self-graft CCP 09, CCP 09/CCP 76, self-graft CCP 76, and CCP 76/CCP 09) and three NaCl concentrations (0, 50, and 100 mM L-1). Height, number of leaves, leaf area, dry matter, tolerance index and leaf concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca+2 were evaluated after 30 days of application of NaCl concentrations. The scion/rootstock combination CCP 76/09 showed tolerance to 50 mM L-1, due to the increase of leaf area and number of leaves. The scion/rootstock combination CCP 76/09 was more suitable, as it kept the leaf K+ concentration and had the lowest Na+ concentration.
