Resumo: Objetivo O rio Aurá, no nordeste da Amazônia brasileira, vem sofrendo influência antrópica de comunidades ribeirinhas e do aterro sanitário Aurá há muitos anos. Neste trabalho, avaliamos a ocorrência, fontes e distribuição de seis marcadores de esteróis em sedimentos superficiais do Rio Aurá para avaliar aportes orgânicos neste corpo d'água. Métodos A cromatografia gasosa-acoplada a espectrometria de massas (GC/MS) foi empregada para determinar os esteróis. A análise de correlação de Pearson, análise de componentes principais (PCA) e razões de esteróis foram utilizadas para avaliar a poluição por esgoto. Resultados Os analitos de interesse identificados e as razões diagnósticas indicaram que os sedimentos do rio estudado apresentam compostos orgânicos provenientes de fontes tanto antropogênicas (esgotos domésticos e MO do aterro sanitário) quanto biogênicas autóctones (plantas superiores terrestres). A Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA) corrobora com esse resultado e possibilitou o agrupamento dos pontos de amostragem segundo essas fontes. A estação 1 (ponto mais próximo do aterro Aurá) apresentou o maior nível de contaminação observado e o coprostanol foi detectado em maior concentração 219,8 ng g-1 nesse local, o que indica contaminação fecal humana moderada. Conclusões Este trabalho demonstrou que a poluição por esgoto doméstico e insumos de MO do aterro do Aurá podem ser ameaças potenciais ao ecossistema e à saúde humana da região estudada. Abstract: Aim The Aurá River, located in the second-largest Brazilian Amazon city, has been experiencing the effects of human activities from riverine communities and the Aurá landfill for many years. In this study, we assess the occurrence, sources, and distribution of selected sterol markers in surface sediments of Aurá River in order to evaluate the organic matter inputs in this water body. Methods Gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) was used to identify and quantify sterol compounds. Pearson correlation, principal component analysis (PCA) and sterol ratios were used to assess sewage pollution. Results The sterol markers identified, the related diagnostic ratios, and statistical analysis showed that Aurá River sediments presented two primary sterol sources: anthropogenic (domestic sewage and inputs from Aurá landfill) and biogenic sources (terrestrial higher plants). Station 1 (the closest site to the Aurá landfill) presented the highest level of coprostanol (219.8 ng g-1). This maximum level of coprostanol and the sterol ratios indicate moderate human fecal contamination in the upper reach of the Aurá River. Coprostanol levels were similar to the lower to midrange concentrations reported for surficial river sediments around the world. Conclusions This study demonstrated that domestic sewage pollution from riverine communities and organic matter inputs from Aurá landfill might be assumed as potential threats to environmental and human health. Resumo A bacia do rio Moju apresenta diferentes padrões de usos da terra decorrentes de um histórico de expansão do setor agrícola e extrativista no estado. Está inserida na área de projetos desenvolvimentistas da região, com ênfase para a cadeia produtiva do dendê. No presente trabalho, realizou-se um zoneamento da bacia do rio Moju evidenciando a interconexão entre os principais usos e cobertura da terra e os usos da água, demonstrando as pressões sobre os recursos naturais que a bacia está sofrendo. O zoneamento é o produto resultante da associação entre o mapeamento de uso e cobertura da terra e as categorias de usuários da água dos municípios componentes da bacia. Os resultados demonstraram que a maior parcela de usos outorgados tem finalidade industrial, sendo a captação subterrânea massivamente superior a superficial, onde o principal outorgado é a agroindústria do dendê. Somente um pequeno número de habitantes são atendidos pela distribuição de água e ocorrem grandes perdas no sistema de distribuição. A sub-bacia Alto Moju sofre alta pressão sobre os seus recursos naturais. Nota-se que a bacia como um todo ainda possui a maior parte de seu território com cobertura florestal, entretanto a pastagem e a vegetação secundária ocupam áreas expressivas. Em geral, percebe-se que o maior desafio está em alinhar o gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos com uma gestão eficiente de uso do solo.

Abstract The Moju River Basin presents different patterns of land use resulting from a historic expansion of the agricultural and extractive sector in the state. It is embedded in the area of developmental projects in the region, with emphasis on the palm oil productive chain. In the present work, a zoning of the Moju River Basin has been carried out, evidencing the interconnection between the land use and land cover and the water use, showing the pressures on the natural resources that the basin is undertaking. The zoning is a product resulting from the association between land use and land cover mapping, and the categories of water users of the municipalities that compound the basin. The results showed that the greatest water user grant has industrial purpose, with underground extraction massively than the superficial, where the palm oil industry has the highest water use grant. Only a small number of inhabitants are served by water distribution and there are high rates of loss in the distribution system. The Alto Moju sub-basin suffers high pressure on its natural resources. We noticed that the basin as a whole has most of its territory covered by forest, although pasture and secondary vegetation are also expressive. In general, we observed that the biggest challenge is to align the management of water resources and efficient land use.

RESUMO: Este trabalho teve como objetivos: (1) avaliar a extensão da ação antrópica sobre a distribuição do chumbo no sistema estuarino da região de Belém, Pará, por meio do estudo da concentração e assinatura isotópica de Pb em sedimentos de fundo da margem oeste da baía do Guajará e do rio Carnapijó, localizado em uma área mais afastada da influência da cidade de Belém; (2) avaliar a contribuição do material em suspensão como meio de transporte de Pb antropogênico na baía do Guajará; e (3) conferir os teores e assinatura isotópica de background de Pb no sistema hidrográfico de Belém. As assinaturas isotópicas dos sedimentos da margem oeste da baía do Guajará confirmam uma contribuição antropogênica para o Pb na escala de toda a baía. O processo de acumulação de Pb se tornou mais eficiente nos últimos 10 anos e deve estar ligado ao crescimento populacional acelerado da cidade de Belém. Os sedimentos do rio Carnapijó ainda não foram afetados pela ação antrópica e os valores médios de concentração (Pb = 19,6 ± 3,7 mg kg-1) e assinatura isotópica (206Pb/207Pb = 1,196 ± 0,004) confirmam os valores de background de Pb anteriormente propostos para o sistema hidrográfico da região de Belém. As assinaturas isotópicas do material em suspensão nas margens oriental (206Pb/207Pb = 1,188) e ocidental (206Pb/207Pb = 1,174) da baía do Guajará mostram que o material em suspensão é um mecanismo eficiente de transporte do chumbo proveniente dos efluentes domésticos e industriais da cidade de Belém para a margem oeste da baía; em razão dos efeitos de maré na confluência com o rio Guamá.

ABSTRACT: This study first aimed to evaluate the effect of human activities on the distribution of lead within the estuarine system of Belém, Pará. This was achieved by studying the concentration and isotopic signature of Pb in bottom sediments from the western margin of Guajará Bay and from Carnapijó River, an area removed from the influence of the city of Belém. Secondly, the contribution of suspended matter in the transportation of anthropogenic Pb in Guajará Bay was evaluated. Third, the content and background isotopic signature of Pb in the hydrographic system of Belém was determined. Isotopic signatures of sediments from the western margin of Guajará Bay confirm an anthropogenic contribution of Pb throughout the entire bay. The Pb accumulation process has become more efficient over the last 10 years, and this can be attributed to the rapid population growth of Belém city. Sediments in Carnapijó River are not affected by human activities, and the average concentration values (Pb = 19.6 ± 3.7 mg kg-1) and isotopic signatures (206Pb/207Pb = 1.196 ± 0.004) confirm the background Pb values previously proposed for the river system in the Belém region. The isotopic signatures of suspended matter on the eastern (206Pb/207Pb = 1.188) and western (206Pb/207Pb = 1.174) margins of Guajará Bay show that suspended matter is an efficient Pb transportation mechanism of domestic and industrial wastewater from Belém to the western margin of the Bay due to tidal effects at the confluence with Guamá River.

Hydrotalcite like compounds (HT) were prepared by co-precipitation (Mg/Al = 3.5), using an acid solution with blast furnace slag and MgCl2.6H2O and aqueous solutions of NaOH. The following synthesis variables were investigated: temperature (30 and 45 ºC) and pH (9 and 12). Depending of the temperature two systems were observed: Mg-Al-CO3 (T = 30 ºC); Mg-Al-Cl-CO3 (T = 45 ºC). An increase in the pH of synthesis and Mg2+ concentration produced HTs well-crystallized and with greater values of all cell parameters. The study showed the potentiality of BFS in the synthesis of well-crystallized LDHs without the presence of other crystalline phases.

Lead analyses in bottom sediments from the hydrographic system of Belem (Para) indicated low contents of this metal for the sediments from the Guama river, with no significant anthropogenic contribution. A concentration of 18.1 ± 1.5 mg kg-1 and 206Pb/207Pb isotopic signature of 1.196 ± 0.002 are assigned for Pb from natural sources. On the other hand, the significant increase of Pb contents in the sediments from the Guajará bay, together with the decrease of 206Pb/207Pb ratios (1.172 < 206Pb/207Pb < 1.188) point to an anthropogenic lead contribution, originated by the industrial and urban activities of the city of Belem.
