To study the production and nutrition of corn and millet, fertilized with porcine biofertilizer, two experiments were established (one for each species) in a random block design with four replications and six treatments. These consisted of five doses of porcine biofertilizers, to offer 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1 of P2O5, and an additional treatment with complete formula 4-14-8, in which was offered 79.99 kg ha-1 of P2O5.In the total fresh matter yields influenced the biofertilizers doses. The highest values (55.81 and 41.34 t ha-1) were reached with mineral fertilization, and did not differ from those obtained with the dose of 150 kg ha-1 of P2O5 (55.05 and 38.71 t ha-1) for millet and maize, respectively. The foliar nutrient content of crops was higher and similar with mineral fertilization and the higher doses of biofertilizers. It is concluded that the porcine biofertilizer, in the dose of 150 kg ha-1 of P2O5, can substitute the application of mineral fertilization in both species, and also constitute a source of micronutrients and macronutrients

Para estudiar la producción y nutrición de maíz y millo, fertilizados con biofertilizante porcino, se establecieron dos experimentos (uno para cada especie) en un diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro réplicas y seis tratamientos. Estos consistieron en cinco dosis de biofertilizantes porcino, para ofrecer 0, 50, 100, 150 y 200 kg ha-1 de P2O5, y un tratamiento adicional con fórmula completa 4-14-8, en el que se ofreció 79.99 kg ha-1 de P2O5. En los rendimientos de materia fresca total influyeron las dosis de biofertilizantes. Los mayores valores (55.81 y 41.34 t ha-1) se alcanzaron con la fertilización mineral, y no difirieron de los obtenidos con la dosis de150 kg ha-1 de P2O5 (55.05 y 38.71 t ha-1) para el millo y el maíz, respectivamente. El contenido foliar de nutrientes de los cultivos fue mayor y similar con la fertilización mineral y las mayores dosis de biofertilizantes. Se concluye que el biofertilizante porcino, en la dosis de 150 kg ha-1 de P2O5, puede sustituir la aplicación de la fertilización mineral en ambas especies, y constituir además una fuente de micronutrientes y macronutrientes

Teve-se por objetivo avaliar e padronizar as metodologias in vitro, ELISA e ToBI-test modificado, para a análise de toxoide épsilon, em comparação com a metodologia in vivo TCP. Foram utilizados os seguintes toxoides épsilon: padrão NIBSC e os lotes 375/07, 532/08, 551/08, 373/07 e 378/07, os quais foram avaliados por métodos in vivo, TCP, e in vitro, ELISA e ToBI-test. A análise do título de toxoide épsilon por meio dos métodos in vitro foi realizada a partir de uma curva-padrão, estabelecida previamente. Os principais resultados mostram que os valores de absorbância foram semelhantes para todos os toxoides, não apresentando diferença significativa entre os toxoides mais concentrados e menos concentrados. No ToBI-test, o coeficiente de correlação de 96,76%, obtido na curva-padrão, demonstra a eficiência da curva para avaliação do toxoide épsilon. O coeficiente de correlação entre os títulos de toxoide obtidos pelo TCP e ToBI-test foi superior a 90%. Conclui-se que o tipo de ELISA utilizado não apresenta poder discriminativo para toxoides com diferentes concentrações, inviabilizando a técnica para esse fim. O ToBI-test pode ser utilizado como um método de triagem sensível e eficaz para a detecção de toxoide épsilon de C. perfringens tipo D.

This study aimed to assess and standardize the ELISA and modified ToBI test in vitro methods in order to verify the potency of epsilon toxicoid in comparison with the in vivo TCP method. The following epsilon toxoids were used: NIBSC standard from batches 375/07, 532/08, 551/08, 373/07 and 378/07. These were evaluated using a TCP test, ELISA and ToBI tests. The results indicate that the correlation ratio between the dilutions of standard NIBSC toxicoid and absorbance values of 89.44% obtained with the ELISA method support the use of the curve to evaluate epsilon toxoids. However, it was observed that the absorbance values were similar for all toxoids, thus presenting no significant difference between higher and lower concentration toxoids. For the ToBI test, the correlation ratio of 96.76, obtained in the curve pattern, demonstrates the effectiveness of the curve to be used in the epsilon toxoid evaluation. The correlation ratio between the titration degrees of toxoids obtained through TCP and ToBI tests was higher than 90%. It is concluded that the type of ELISA test used does present discriminative power for toxoids with different concentrations, which does not support the use of this technique for such a purpose. The ToBI test can be used as a screening method for it is sensitive and effective to detect epsilon toxicoid produced by C. perfringens type D.

O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar as características morfológicas como densidade numérica e espessura do pelame e comprimento dos pelos de vacas Holandesas predominantemente negras, puras por cruza em lactação na região de Montes Claros no norte de Minas Gerais. O estudo foi conduzido em duas fases, A: julho/agosto e B: outubro/novembro de 2010, utilizando 12 fêmeas Holandesas em lactação, puras por cruza de pelame predominante negro. Foram medidas as características de densidade numérica (nº pelos/cm²), espessura (mm), comprimento (mm) e a temperatura da superfície do pelame (TPE). Os resultados mostraram que o pelame foi menos denso, com pelos mais curtos na fase B, no entanto a espessura não variou entre as duas fases. No período em que ocorreu maior densidade numérica houve menor TPE. As características do pelame das vacas Holandesas puras por cruza observadas indicam uma boa adequação às condições ambientais da região em estudo.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the morphological characteristics such as number density, coat thickness and length of predominantly black lactating graded Holstein cows, in the region of Montes Claros in the north of Minas Gerais. The study was conducted in two phases, A: July/August and B: October/November 2010, using 12 lactating female Holstein crossbred dairy cows with predominant black coat. We measured the characteristics of numerical density (number of hair/cm²), thickness (mm) length (mm) and coat surface temperature (CST). Three samples of hair of each animal were taken at each stage through adjusted pliers. The results showed that the coat was less dense, with shorter hair in phase B, and the thickness did not change in the two phases. In the period when the coat was denser, that is, phase A, there was lower CTS. The observed coat characteristics of graded Holstein cows indicate good adaptation to environmental conditions in the region.
