RESUMO Há pouco mais ou menos de uma década, o populismo e as redes sociais têm sido questões relevantes, tanto no meio acadêmico como na esfera pública. Neste ponto, os dados de vários países sugerem que a percepção de paralelos entre a dinâmica das redes sociais e a mecânica do discurso populista pode ser mais do que meramente acidental, relacionada a um campo estrutural partilhado. Este artigo sugere um caminho possível para dar sentido à forma como as dinâmicas das redes sociais e a mecânica da mobilização populista têm se coproduzido na última década. Navegando na interface entre a antropologia e a linguística, o texto parte de aspectos chave da noção de liminaridade de Victor Turner para sugerir algumas das formas pelas quais affordances anti-estruturais das mídias sociais podem ajudar a estabelecer uma base para o florescimento contemporâneo do discurso populista: os marcadores da estrutura social são suspensos; a comunitas é formada; o núcleo cultural é abordado; a mimese e as inversões anti-estruturais são realizadas; os sujeitos tornam-se influenciáveis. Desenvolvo esta afirmação com base em materiais brasileiros, extraídos de etnografia online em grupos pró-Bolsonaro no WhatsApp e em outras plataformas, como Twitter e Facebook, desde 2018.

ABSTRACT In the past decade or so, populism and social media have been outstanding issues both in academia and the public sphere. At this point, evidence from multiple countries suggest that perceived parallels between the dynamics of social media and the mechanics of populist discourse may be more than just incidental, relating to a shared structural field. This article suggests one possible path towards making sense of how the dynamics of social media and the mechanics of populist mobilization have co-produced each other in the last decade or so. Navigating the interface between anthropology and linguistics, it takes key aspects of Victor Turner’s notion of liminality to suggest some of the ways in which social media’s anti-structural affordances may help lay a foundation for the contemporary flourishing of populist discourse: markers of social structure are suspended; communitas is formed; the culture core is addressed; mimesis and anti-structural inversions are performed; subjects become influenceable. I elaborate on this claim based on Brazilian materials, drawn from online ethnography on pro-Bolsonaro WhatsApp groups and other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook since 2018.

Recent advances in biotechnology have altered the roles performed by public and private sectors in the process of agricultural research. Unlike what occurred during the Green Revolution, the private sector has been the main actor in this "new phase" of agricultural research. On the other hand, the Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIs) have made efforts to keep up with such advances and, in certain cases, even anticipate them. Certain PARIs are also working with different types of research. Considering the diversity of technological possibilities, the plurality of strategies has become an interesting option to PARIs.

The emergence of GM soy has been at the core of an intense debate, revolving around the advantages and disadvantages of its adoption as well as the behaviour of those institutions involved in the regulatory framework of such a phenomenon. This paper aims at assessing the dissemination of genetically modified soy in Brazilian agriculture in the period between 1998 and 2005, from the standpoint of the institutional framework related to GMO technology. Thus, attention is given to the strategy adopted by the Monsanto company in the light of the difficulties emerging throughout the process that led to the authorization to the production and marketing of soybean in Brazil. The main actors in this process are identified as also the institutional framework involved in the marketing relations between innovator and users.

Neste artigo, proponho uma reflexão sobre as relações de gênero e as formas de organização da experiência imigratória contemporânea no bojo da experiência diaspórica dos palestinos. Segundo um provérbio árabe, coletado em trabalho de campo, "as mulheres voam com seus maridos". A explicação se refere a um funcionamento peculiar da vida da família árabe que recebe as noras na unidade doméstica do marido, e, por conseguinte, essa unidade é também a do pai do marido. Foi através desse provérbio que tive acesso a um comentário nativo sobre o "ir e vir" de esposas da Palestina ou de outras cidades para residir na cidade do Chuí (RS) e de lá para outras localidades. No mundo pós-colonial, as mulheres se converteram em potentes símbolos de identidade de sociedades e nações. As mulheres islâmicas e, em especial, as palestinas se encontram dentro desse debate ideológico sobre a integridade e autenticidade cultural. Essa fala proverbial nos dá acesso a diferentes pontos de vista sobre os dispositivos culturais que presidem esses fluxos e nos exige uma reflexão sobre as relações de gênero e o modo como analisamos o protagonismo das mulheres muçulmanas.

This article proposes a reflection about gender relations and the forms of organization of contemporary Palestinian immigrants' experience. According to an Arabian proverb, collected during fieldwork, "the women fly with their husbands". The explanation refers to a kinship structure through which daughters-in-law come to live in the husband's father's domestic unit. This proverb reveals some aspects about the "coming and going" of Palestinian wives who reside or come from other localities to settle in Chui city. In the post-colonial era, women were converted in powerful identity symbols. Islamic women, specially Palestinians women, are part of a ideological debate about cultural integrity and authenticity. That proverb gives us access to different viewpoints on the cultural devices subjacent to those streams and, therefore, demands a reflection on gender relations and ways of analyzing the agency of Moslem.

A política pública de reforma agrária no Brasil continua dando prioridade a formas de organização coletiva do assentamento, dos serviços e até da produção agrícola. Essa lógica coletiva está promovida e institucionalizada tanto pelo Estado quanto pelos movimentos pró-reforma agrária. Paradoxalmente, o assentamento se traduz pela concessão de lotes individuais a um público composto em sua maioria de ex-assalariados, no marco de uma política de promoção de empreendimentos econômicos de natureza familiar. Este trabalho examina as raízes e conseqüências da interação entre essas lógicas a partir do exemplo de assentamentos do município de Unaí. Per-manece a tensão entre o interesse individual do "recém-proprietário", as lógicas famili-ares e as práticas coletivas dependentes das modalidades de política pública. A obriga-ção de solidariedade familiar ou comunitária é alimentada pela precariedade do pro-cesso de assentamento e pelo caráter unificador da ideologia ou dos valores humanos. Os resultados em Unaí mostram três ensinamentos: a) os pressupostos e instrumentos das políticas públicas de reforma agrária revelam-se pouco adaptados, quando não contraditórios e geradores de conflitos; b) apesar dessas condições negativas e de um ambiente institucional pouco favorável, métodos e instrumentos de construção social da parceria permitem uma complementaridade entre as lógicas individuais, familiares e coletivas; c) um esforço de educação in loco é indispensável para fortalecer e subsidiar a dignidade e a identidade dos assentados, mas revela-se eficiente a médio ou longo prazo.

The public policy of agrarian reform in Brazil still gives priority to collective organization of the settlement, of the services and even of the agricultural production. This collective logic is promoted and institutionalized both by the State and the agrarian reform movements. Paradoxically, the settlement is based on the concession of individual land plots to a public formed mostly by former wage-earners, in the context of the promotion of family-based economic enterprises. This paper analyzes the origins and consequences of the interaction between these logics, focusing the case of land reform settlements of the municipality of Unaí, in the state of Minas Gerais. There is a tension between the individual interest of "the new land-owner", the logic of the family and the collective logic dependent on the modalities of public policy. The obligation of familiar or communitarian solidarity is fed by the precariousness of the settlement process and by the unifying ideology and human values. The results in Unaí teach us that: a) the budgets and the instruments of public policy for agrarian reform are not adapted or suitable, and may become contradictory and lead to conflicts; b) in spite of such conditions and institutional environment, tools and methods for social construction of partnerships allow for a synergy between individual, familiar and collective logics; c) at the local level, the educational effort is indispensable in order to strengthen the dignity and identity of the settlers, but it will be efficient only on medium or long term.

Este artigo aborda a ambientalização dos conflitos sociais relacionadas à construção de uma nova questão social, uma nova questão pública. O processo histórico de ambientalização assim como outros processos similares implicam simultaneamente transformações no Estado e no comportamento das pessoas no trabalho, na vida cotidiana e no lazer que aqui analisamos para tratar da questão ambiental como nova fonte de legitimidade e de argumentação nos conflitos.

This article deals with the environmentalization of social conflicts underlying the construction of a new social question, a new public issue. Like other analogous processes, the historical process of environmentalization implies changes both in the State and in the behavior of people at work, in their daily lives and leisure. Such processes are analyzed in order to frame the environmental issue as a new source of legitimatization and argumentation in conflicts.
